I remember happening upon it now and then when I'd be looking something up on Google. I'd be taken to this website with a gray background and a bunch of topics, but I was never interested enough to stay. One day, a few of the topics caught my eye, and I've been posting ever since. This was roughly two years ago. You?
How did you discover Datalounge?
|by Anonymous||reply 103||03/20/2013|
I was doing research on a piece I was writing on gays and religion...Google pointed me here, and now I can't get out!
|by Anonymous||reply 2||01/06/2013|
I was referred by a burning bush.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||01/06/2013|
Same as those who have already posted. Google search brought me here repeatedly. I tried to post repeatedly, but got the primetime message. Then a few weeks ago I was able to post my first provocative comments.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||01/06/2013|
I found it because it was mentioned on another board and I decided liked this one better. The other board is gone but I've been here about 12 years now, maybe longer.
I remember Magdalene, White Belt Man, Blue Agave, David Ehrenstein and some nut spammer named Stewart Swerdlow and his conspiracy rants. Am I missing any past posters of DL glory?
|by Anonymous||reply 5||01/06/2013|
A friend told me about it. This was probably eight or so years ago. I was hooked with Josh's cocktail party...
|by Anonymous||reply 6||01/06/2013|
I used to be quite active on Table Talk on Salon. David E mentioned Datalounge in one of his contentious posts. I checked it out and stayed. Been here many years.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||01/06/2013|
I was doing a Google search on gay celebrity gossip, I can't remember exactly who I was looking for, and that led me to DL. I've been here ever since.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||01/06/2013|
A friend told me about it. We were having an argument about the proper way to make a bed and he started a thread. He didn't get any replies on his thread but I started opening other threads to read. I was hooked by the "Once around the garden thread" and haven't been able to leave since. I feel like I've grown up with many, many DL daddies helping (or hindering) me along.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||01/06/2013|
Googling. Stumbled upon it last year.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||01/06/2013|
Back in the stone age, 1990 or so, there was a website that listed all relevant websites for gay men. Menonthenet was the name of that site I think. There were lots of websites with forums for gay men. But DL was one of very few that wasn't (obviously) moderated and censored. So the posts had the best variety in topic and styles. I would think it hasn't changed much since then. Just like now it had boring and brilliant threads side by side.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||01/06/2013|
I think that was the site that brought me here as well, R11.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||01/06/2013|
I was on another message board and someone wrote about Don/Elijah rumours here and I've been here ever since.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||01/06/2013|
I was googling "Onslow + dangler" for details of a specific Hyacinth episode, and a thread about her here popped up!
|by Anonymous||reply 14||01/06/2013|
If your pussy required as much daily maintenance time as mine does, you'd stumble onto things you normally wouldn't too.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||01/06/2013|
I had a WebTV at the time (remember those?), and someone sent a link to the news forum I was in...been here ever since.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||01/06/2013|
I used to hang out on the forums on Fametracker, the side project of Tara Ariano (DL fave "Wing Chun") of TWoP, which I had in turn discovered by Googling something about the first season of American Idol.
Anyway, when Fametracker was shutting down its forums, one of the posters in a thread about where to migrate suggested DataLounge. The first thread I read was "What celebrities are thinking about at this moment", and I've never left.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||01/06/2013|
Heard about it from another celebrity gossip site. Stuck around because of the political discussions, honestly. I've learned a lot from some of the posters on this site. Now I appreciate the humor as well.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||01/06/2013|
ASG back in 1997.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||01/06/2013|
I googled "Bill Hemmer" and this site popped up - I've been hooked since!
|by Anonymous||reply 20||01/06/2013|
R20...you really made me laugh out loud!
|by Anonymous||reply 21||01/06/2013|
It was referenced on a site called "Is he/she gay"
That site is still up, but doesn't get many posts.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||01/06/2013|
I did a Google search of "Elijah Wood gay" around 2001 when the first Lord of the Rings movie came out and found Datalounge. I fell into the Prancing Pony threads and I've been here ever since. I'd never seen anything like the insanity that was the Dom / Elijah stuff.

Jeannette Walls' column a few months after 9/11
|by Anonymous||reply 24||01/06/2013|
There was a link on my university's GLBT student association website.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||01/06/2013|
Googled for gossip on the MLP/Billy Crudup/Claire Danes thing, and here you all were.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||01/06/2013|
Ana Marie Cox linking to bitchy queen gossip.
It was a Saturday and Pedo Trolls spent weekends trying to make everyone vomit.

A shout-out from the sex site "night charm" about 9 years ago
|by Anonymous||reply 28||01/06/2013|
A friend told me about this website back in 2006. I've been here since then.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||01/06/2013|
this pops up on first page when you search for a CERTAIN celebs.
That's how i discovered it.
I guess someone from site team is fucking with Google top guys.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||01/06/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 32||01/06/2013|
I can't recall if it was a link posted on A.S.G. or like R22 found it on IHSG.
R5, remember Shobe? And Billy Masters? Poor thing had his bit stolen from under him by Perez Hilton. Hah!
|by Anonymous||reply 33||01/06/2013|
As with several other posters, I came to the site as a result of a google search on a gay celebrity. Specifically it was the David Muir of ABC News.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||01/06/2013|
I was reading The Village Voice (the actual newspaper) in 2005 and Michael Musto referenced the Dom/Elijah rumors and mentioned DataLounge. I've loved coming here ever since!
|by Anonymous||reply 35||01/06/2013|
Google...I forget the topic.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||01/06/2013|
Proud Fametracker cunt here.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||01/06/2013|
I was looking up something about poor JonBenet in 2001 and there were all these listing from Mrs. Patsy Ramsey, formerly of Boulder, CO.

In 2005, an Anderson Cooper fan told me that DL had good gossip & some of the guys were pretty funny. I haven't heard from her in years, but I'm still here.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||01/06/2013|
Good times and bum times, R40?
|by Anonymous||reply 41||01/06/2013|
Google told be to come here. . .
|by Anonymous||reply 42||01/06/2013|
I found this very, very early on -- about early 1995 -- when it was hosted by out.com. I probably stumbled on it within the first few months that it was in existence. [I believe that R11 is off by a few years -- there was no internet content that was available to the public in 1990.]
At that time there were no graphics -- just a black screen with white typeface and pages and pages of posts. Nothing was broken down into "threads." It was easy enough, at that time, to read every post that had been made over the course of a day or a few days.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||01/06/2013|
Seen all my dreams disappear, But I'm here.r41
|by Anonymous||reply 44||01/06/2013|
A soap thread on another site! Someone made a snarky remark and a poster told him/her that what was said belonged on Datalounge. It piqued my interest and I have been here ever since. This was way back in 2004 when the soap opera threads were toxic and politics and gossip were seperate. Eventually, the soap threads were banned and if you posted about a soap you got banned. Datalounge is very tame (and sometimes rather boring) compared to those days.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||01/06/2013|
I forgot how exactly I found DL but I remember I discovered it right smack dab in the middle of Judy Pills Garland's meltdown.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||01/06/2013|
I have been fascinated watching Rory McIlroy's crotch and ass play golf. Googled his name and bulge, voila.........
|by Anonymous||reply 47||01/06/2013|
It had something to do with 9/11 or maybe I just stumbled upon it then. The first thread I remember was a super-long thread from that morning/day.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||01/06/2013|
A gay Seattle radio talk show host directed listeners here.
After an embarrassing, public incident involving an auto accident and insurance fraud, the guy was murdered and left in the crawl space of his house a few year ago.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||01/06/2013|
Back in 2002, it was mentioned on a message board in regards to gay pro wrestlers, of all things.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||01/06/2013|
Why I keep coming back:
[quote]"A caftan is merely a base for statement jewels."t
|by Anonymous||reply 51||01/06/2013|
It was either Dlisted or an old Jossip thread.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||01/06/2013|
I found it when there was still a lesbian forum. Came to connect with other lesbians, but stayed for the gossip (White Belt Man, etc) after the lesbian forum was discontinued.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||01/06/2013|
I came for the CAK!
|by Anonymous||reply 54||01/06/2013|
Backlinked from a blog I was writing. Some one had put a link to one of the posts on this site, so I followed it back to check it out. My grammar and general writing was badly slammed - but that was only fair. ;) Been back on and off ever since.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||01/06/2013|
This seething oppressing patriarchal rape pit of poisonous penised persons discovered ME.

|by Anonymous||reply 56||01/06/2013|
Googled "NPR voice annoying" after listening to I don't remember who on-air(Zoe Chace, probably.)
I followed the entire "Most Annoying NPR Voice" thread through to the end, laughing much of the way, amazed that there was a board of such bitchy, catty, perceptive people who knew all the hosts and could so accurately describe their worst attributes. Been cruising the threads ever since. (40yo male breeder)
|by Anonymous||reply 57||01/06/2013|
I found it back in 1997 through the Edwina site! Separate forums for lesbians, Gossip and politics. Been here ever since...brought many friends here who love it as much as I do.
|by Anonymous||reply 58||01/06/2013|
a friend of mine told me about the lounge in 1998 or 1999. I'd have to check with the web Master and see when I paid 12 dollars for the first time.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||01/06/2013|
Completely random. It was when Tom Cruise was jumping on the couch on Oprah and I had heard references to it around the web. I was just Googling to get the full story and one of the first links was a Datalounge thread about it. No joke.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||01/06/2013|
Someone referenced it once, I don't know where. All you bitches who can remember that far back have some lousy drugs.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||01/06/2013|
The Dlisted guy would occasionally link to datalounge, and I'd come check it out but had difficulties understanding how the website worked.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||01/06/2013|
My friend Julie told me about the great crockpot recipes.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||01/06/2013|
I read the book, "I Am Not Myself These Days" in the summer of 2006. Datalounge was mentioned on the Acknowledgements page and I gave it a look. The first thread I read was something along the lines of, "Your best childhood memory." I remember laughing so hard at some of the replies. I liked the "tone" of the board, funny people posting honestly and just so many interesting threads!
I recently re-read the book in e-book format and noticed that the DL shout out is no longer there.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||01/06/2013|

I was laid up in 2003 with a broken back after this horrible bitch drove me and 4 other people off the road and I was watching tv for the first time in years because I was too pilled out to read. But the tv only got Fox and NBC and I had no company and I was stuck on the sofa at my mother and stepfather's house neither of whom would ever come into the room and spend any time with me and would actually close the adjoining doors to the dining room while they ate dinner so that they didn't have to speak to me. Anyway, in between suicide attempts, I googled: "Mariska Hargitay SVU gay" and found out that my perceptions weren't completely warped by the painkillers because tons of other people were sure she was a lesbian, too. This place was hilarious back then and you guys lifted my mood many times.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||01/06/2013|
A genius lesbian I know recommended it back in '96. It took years before I had the courage to post.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||01/06/2013|
Another Zoe Chace hater (and I still hate her), who googled and found the gift that keeps on giving thread, "Most Annoying NPR voice." I was so thrilled that there were others who also detested Zoe and the others (Lynn Rosetto Casper, you know who you are), that I started coming to DL almost daily since last spring. I'm a straight middle-aged female (it's not my fault).
|by Anonymous||reply 68||01/06/2013|
LOL R65! When you're right, you're right! I hang my head in shame. The only excuse I can give is, every so often, I like a trashy bio.
|by Anonymous||reply 69||01/07/2013|
I googled rimming and blow jobs and voila' that's how I found this place!
|by Anonymous||reply 70||01/07/2013|
When my photo appeared in the dictionary next to the word "cunt" in 2012, it referenced Datalounge to see how to use it in a sentence.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||01/07/2013|
A friend who posted here told me about it in 2003 and I decided to check it out.
I've been here fairly regularly ever since and became a paying member a few years ago.
|by Anonymous||reply 72||01/07/2013|
r60 - me, too - I came for the Tom Cruise couch jumping, live thread. That thread was hysterical.
I stayed because it's witty - although - I miss some of our old threads.
|by Anonymous||reply 73||01/07/2013|
PT, are you Nate Silver? Don't answer if you are not or if you would like to keep the mystery going.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||01/07/2013|
Yes R33 I do remember a Shobe. I also remember a Torta.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||01/07/2013|
R65 and R66
I hated that book, but Josh's book on moving to the farm and being a Beekman Boy, is pretty good.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||01/07/2013|
Believe it or not, someone here had linked a story about a cave in Russia where you can supposedly hear the screams of the damned. I don't even know why I was looking that up.
|by Anonymous||reply 77||01/07/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 78||01/07/2013|
Back for it was even called the datalounge, it was gay gossip at out.com. That's where I first stumbled in.
And, no I'm NOT an elder gay, so fuck you and your Justin Berber tickets!
|by Anonymous||reply 79||01/07/2013|
That really is freaky R77

Found it in 1997 or '98 as a link from IHSG and Campfire Video, whenever I first got aol dial-up. Edwina or Trudy or someone, a match-maker, was part of the logo on the front page.
Have spent way too much of my life here wasting time -- and loving the Pointless Bitchery. News links and gleefully vomitous debates on politics, current events, and pop culture have been addictive. No matter where life has taken me on this world, I always find a way to log in to DL. Sick me, no?
So much practical info here, too: Who's hot and gay, travel info, dying relatives, strange growths, the voices of you people from flyover states, advice on pet care, sex, relationships, CAK, and blatino husbears; the hissing sounds of Eldergays.
I always wish to give back to you people by providing my very important commentary to the DL Community.

|by Anonymous||reply 84||01/07/2013|
I was googling Jim Parsons around 2009. And then I had this weird vague idea that the site was dedicated to The Big Bang Theory, or some general nerdy stuff (it had probably something to do with its logo). Well, that changed fast enough. :)

I was cruising the internet for gossip sites and had been at the Alist site and found alt.gossip (i think that's right) and somewhere along the line I was lead here.
Remember the separate lesbian forum with Shobe. Remember White Belt Man, Blue Agave, David Eherensen (spelling), Judy Pills, Betty Bowers, the Chalupas, Prancing Ponies etc.
One of the best gossip moments was when some insider came here and leaked that Marcia Cross was going to come out of the closet. It got all around the media to the point that Marcia and her parents were on a talk show and she was asked about if she was gay or not.
|by Anonymous||reply 88||01/07/2013|
2003, Looking for pics of Jude Law.

Datalounge is basically an island. I've only seen someone link to this site once from another website. I found the site from a search engine.
|by Anonymous||reply 91||03/18/2013|
I was cyber-stalking my favorite porn stars of yesteryear and ended up here.
|by Anonymous||reply 92||03/18/2013|
I came here in 2002. Read something about it on the Atkol forums.
|by Anonymous||reply 93||03/18/2013|
A guy on google groups in the celeb gossip group used to refer to "over on datalounge".

I was looking for some dirt on Andrea Dworkin, and found DL. The thread was so funny, I joined a few weeks later and now intend to stay here for many, many years to come.
That there are no user profiles makes DL such a cut above all the other sites I have used and makes it much more free and scathing.
|by Anonymous||reply 96||03/18/2013|
I was a fan of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy in 2003, and when I would look on the internet for stories about the guys, this site would show up. Been hanging around ever since.
|by Anonymous||reply 97||03/18/2013|

I heard all the strippers come here and I got tired of my old salon.
|by Anonymous||reply 99||03/18/2013|
It was around 2001-2002 and I was searching for some gay gossip about a celebrity (can remember who) and this site showed up in the results, or perhaps linked from a google group. Back then it was hard to find gay/lesbian gossip. And I ending up liking DL because of that and also the endless threads about old movie stars and movies. And the anonymity.
|by Anonymous||reply 100||03/18/2013|
Another Edwina member here. I was thinking I'd made that up that connection (but couldn't fathom why I'd bother) until I saw someone else post the same thing.
Other boards will get my attention for a short time, but I get tired of them eventually The sensibility of this board keeps me coming back.
|by Anonymous||reply 101||03/18/2013|
That's how I got here too r88 and I remember that ABC insider leak about Marcia Cross.
The Alist used to be great source of gossip I even emailed a couple of times with the girl who was running it.
