Anonymous and the Steubenville Rape Case

Surprised it isn't being discussed here yet. I've mixed feelings about Anonymous but this kind of thing probably gets covered up all the time in small towns. Here's a link to everything they've pieced together so far.

The guy in the video boasting about the rape is sick. And ugly as sin. The case so far is like every small town screenwriting cliché ever- illegal gambling, sheriff hanging out with the coach, coach rewarding "his boys" with alcohol and porn, and a sheriff being caught at cruising spots and other places with young guys in his car.

Someone call Alan Ball, American Beauty needs a sequel.

I thought Nan Michiganwomyn would chime in

No one should be surprised that HS football stars are pigs that rape drunk girls and get it covered up. I am very happy to see them all getting called out on this (school & town officials as well for sweeping it under the rug)by Anonymous but I wonder why this case stood put to them? Was it the social media bragging blatant-ness?

Anonymous is not an organization with a central governing body. Sometimes all you need is one determined individual to totally on their own sniff around and unearth something, release it and say it is from Anonymous. For example, the person who secretly videoed Mitt giving his 47% talk could have posted the video on line and said it was from Anonymous and there is no one in the organization who could say otherwise. The person or persons who leaked this info probably did not work on or even know the people who did the attack on WBC this week. I think the on line bragging certainly contributed to why they were targeted. Like WBC, the perpetrators were not only doing evil, but gladly calling attention to themselves.

We are all Anonymous. We just need the guts to do something.

I just saw this yesterday. It's pretty gross.

Steubenville is (a) in the midst of football country and (b) in the backwaters of Ohio and super close to West Virginia. It is the kind of place where this shit happens all the time.

This place is the opposite of progressive, and it's so ugly what they've done. The surprise is how far up the ladder people protected them.

[quote]As you are probably aware, this web site was recently hacked into illegally numerous times by a terrorist group. The outrageous claims they made while controlling this site were totally false, completely absurd, and totally unfounded. They were clearly both libelous and slanderous, and were not even intended to reveal truth, but rather simply to get media attention and terrorize the Steubenville community. Innocent people have been greatly harmed.

[quote]Unfortunately, several national media outlets, including the New York Times, have recklessly decided to aid and abet these acts of illegality and give the terrorists exactly what they wanted by disseminating inaccurate and legally actionable information and accusations. Incredibly, they have done so without even bothering to contact this web site for comment.

[quote]We wish to make it clear that we will pursue legal justice against the perpetrators of these evil acts and all of those in the media who chose to help them. James "Jim" Parks

Knock yourself out. Asshole.

Who is behind this website???? I would like to extend some financial support. I've long known that Jews were not safe in Steubenville and I've long known that was corrupt although I don't have any details.

by Anonymousreply 701/05/2013

The problem is, this could and does happen everywhere.

I don't have the link -- but there's a case in Dallas this fall, out of upscale Highland Park High School. It doesn't involve the perp posting photos and tapes on social media - but his supporters started a Facebook page and systematically trashed the underage girl who he got drunk and allegedly raped.

With the cooperation of the local police department, she taped a phone call in which the guy admitted it.

Guy is the son of the CEO of Eatzi's, a local restaurant chain.

I am sure they advertise themselves as a God-fearing, family values town. Probably also love their 2nd Amendment! What a bunch of corrupt, vomit-inducing cretins. Anyplace that centers themselves around one particular thing, in this case the high school football team, is very suspect anyway. Penn State anyone? Same with small towns who have one major source of income. That business will usually be full of corruption and cronyism. I am thankful I live in an urban area. Yea, there is crime but you know what you are getting and there is also diversion and a certain freedom you don't have in hick towns like this. That sociopath on the video must be a product of a brother and sister.

by Anonymousreply 901/05/2013

Oh, and Steubenville is also one of these old OH/PA towns, like Youngstown and Erie, where old mobsters went to die in the 70s. They were all taken into the grips of the Mafia when the steel plants, etc. started to fall. So that's another reason why the whole culture of secrecy and coercion is alive and well there.

by Anonymousreply 1001/05/2013

R8 is right. We hear cases like this happen every now and then, making me think it happens A LOT more than we really know. And thats what makes this shit so great. Assholes like this have been bullying and abusing people for years. They are the big fish in a tiny pond who have never been challenged, never been held accountable for their actions. Now thats changed, the nerds they tortured are striking back.

by Anonymousreply 1101/05/2013

These guys are assholes who no doubt abused that girl, but there's a very good article in the NYTimes about the case. It's not an uncommon story - desperate small town, football team & their groupies & irresponsible adults (including coaches and school administrators) who turn a blind eye to this crap. The article does state that the girl wasn't actually raped (she was digitally penetrated) and toxicology reports did not indicate that she had a date rape drug in her system. Clearly, treated her terribly and should be punished, but it's not 100% clear exactly what happened.

Calling Gloria Allred...

by Anonymousreply 1301/05/2013

They're basically creating fucking sociopaths. The adults are disgusting, but I can't imagine a kid ever being comfortable enough to take advantage of all of those privileges. I.e. being helped to cheat on tests - wouldn't you rather just do well on your own merit?

They've conditioned these kids. You start telling them they're superstars at 15 or 16 and they believe it.

In another thread I posted a link to an article about Notre Dame covering up the rape of female students by Notre Dame football players.

One thing I've learned is that, if you want to be a rapist, you should learn how to play football! Then everyone will try to cover up for you and defend you. (Don't forget that Jerry Sandusky played high school and college football, too)

by Anonymousreply 1501/05/2013

[quote]Clearly, treated her terribly and should be punished, but it's not 100% clear exactly what happened.

What do you surmise they're doing in that shot where they have her by her hands and feet? Getting ready to swing her in the deep end of the pool?
