James Shigeta - Gay?

He was arguably the biggest Asian-American male star in the 50s and 60s. Won as a vocalist on "Ted Mack's Amateur Hour." Starred in two major movie musicals: "Flower Drum Song" and the major bomb "Lost Horizon." I can't find any evidence that he married or had kids. Was he the precursor to George Takei?

He shared the 1960 Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Male Newcomer with actors George Hamilton, Troy Donahue and Barry Coe.

Neither Wiki nor IMDB lists any marriage or partners. He kept his private life private.
