Marilyn Monroe Was a Cheap Tramp

Some new photos of Marilyn's pre-fame days reveal her Betty Page side. Tittie pics galore. How did she ever keep these under wraps? Can you imagine Loretta Young or Bette Davis doing this? Nice tits, by the way.

by Anonymousreply 17801/10/2015

I liked it

by Anonymousreply 201/02/2013

R1, you're Christian, or something, is that it? Ease up, dude.

More importantly: Where did you hear the story about Brando and Miss Davis? OMG! What a great story, I pray it's true. Reveal your sources.

by Anonymousreply 301/02/2013

It was in the 1940's, R1. At least Loretta was discreet when she whored herself out.

by Anonymousreply 401/02/2013

Loretta Young was a motherfucking hypocrite, everyone know this, with her little jar where you were supposed to drop coins every time you swore. Ick. My least favorite movie star of that era, Greer Garson being a close second.

by Anonymousreply 501/02/2013

R3, you're a Christian, or something, is that it?

Because that makes as much sense as what you said.

There sure are a lot of crooked-thinking asses on the DL.

by Anonymousreply 601/02/2013

Hey, the rent's due, you have no food.. who wouldn't drop their top for 50 bucks?

by Anonymousreply 701/02/2013

[quote] Can you imagine Loretta Young or Bette Davis doing this?

I know all about Loretta Young. And Bette Davis would have castrated any man that wanted to take trampy photos of her

by Anonymousreply 801/02/2013

she was radiant

by Anonymousreply 1201/02/2013

Listen Babycakes, we know. In fact I'm quite certain this is common knowledge to anyone on god's green earth who gives a hoot.

by Anonymousreply 1301/02/2013

Ethel, dear, isn't there a nose you should be picking?

by Anonymousreply 1401/02/2013

Great pix of Monroe. She was totally juicy and radiant.

by Anonymousreply 1501/02/2013

There are a lot of pictures of the very young Monroe taken by Earl Moran. She does look sort of cheap in them: her hair and makeup look low-rent.

But despite that, she's clearly already a great model--she really projects a lot of personality in these very cheesy set-ups.

by Anonymousreply 1601/02/2013

I can't stop looking at this pic. It looks like it is two different women making believe they are in front of a mirror. Her face looks so different in the reflection. The mouth looks closed in the mirror whereas it is slightly opened in the front view. An optical illusion!

by Anonymousreply 1701/02/2013

Her nipples were the size of demitasse-cup saucers.

by Anonymousreply 1901/03/2013

I don't find those pictures trampy at all. More artistic than porn. You want trampy see Kim Kardassian or a Hustler.

by Anonymousreply 2001/03/2013

For a moment I thought Erin Moran was the photographer!

Those photos are super-tame

by Anonymousreply 2101/03/2013

Yea she was a cheap tramp.

by Anonymousreply 2201/03/2013

So was Nancy Reagan.

by Anonymousreply 2301/03/2013

So is Mrs. Clinton. So is Mrs. Bush. Oh hell lets just make this easy... They are all cunts.

by Anonymousreply 2401/03/2013

Mrs. Clinton is not a cheap tramp.

Mrs. Bush only wishes she were.

by Anonymousreply 2501/03/2013

Marilyn had a beautiful body.

by Anonymousreply 2601/03/2013

Hallelujah, I'm a tramp.

by Anonymousreply 2801/03/2013

She sure did, r26. Her curvy, voluptuous body was so much better looking than today's anorexic twig actresses.

by Anonymousreply 2901/03/2013

I like this one.

by Anonymousreply 3001/03/2013

R29 - I agree. MM looked best when she was heavier too.

by Anonymousreply 3101/03/2013

I love the pictures of her when she was still Norma Jeane. Even then, with dowdy clothes and makeup, she was still a great model

by Anonymousreply 3201/03/2013

The fact that MM posed for pin-up/nudie shots is not news to anyone.

by Anonymousreply 3301/03/2013

[quote]So was Nancy Reagan.

Perhaps, but this isn't a thread about that trash. Please get with the subject.

by Anonymousreply 3401/03/2013

She looked great and liked to show it off, but her need for conquests and her personality disorders meant all relationships were doomed.

by Anonymousreply 3501/03/2013

Lovely body, tits aren't that impressive.

by Anonymousreply 3601/03/2013

Seriously R36?

by Anonymousreply 3701/03/2013

Is it true that she had some sort of pre-silicone breast implants, or were her breasts larger after her pinup days from weight gain?

by Anonymousreply 3801/03/2013

I don't think breast implants existed in those days.

by Anonymousreply 3901/03/2013

Circa 1948

by Anonymousreply 4001/03/2013

another early shot

by Anonymousreply 4101/03/2013

"her need for conquests and her personality disorders meant all relationships were doomed."

Gee, thanks, perfessor.

Can we have ONE appreciation thread without these dimestore shrinks?

by Anonymousreply 4201/03/2013

And you, OP? And you?

by Anonymousreply 4301/03/2013

Odd how she looks like Britney Spears in most of those early pics.

by Anonymousreply 4401/03/2013

Modern implants didn't exist until 1962. Some plastic surgeons were doing injections and the implantation of some kind of sponge in the 50s. I was just wondering about her breast size increasing over the 50s. A lot of people think she had work but maybe it's weight.

by Anonymousreply 4501/03/2013

Bette, at least when she was younger, was no prude about sex.

One biography quoted Warner Bros. staple Jack Carson about an incident at the Hollywood Canteen (which Davis had started so that servicemen on leave could meet and dance with movie stars).

A GI approached Carson and asked for an introduction to Bette, adding "I hear she fucks like a mink." Carson got angry and was about to tell off--if not punch--the GI, considering it a pretty ungrateful comment given all Bette had done for the military effort.

Then Carson started laughing, thinking "Well, ain't it the truth?"

It was no secret that Bette, while no slut, was not immune to the charms of the handsome, young servicemen who frequented the Canteen.

by Anonymousreply 4601/03/2013

R44 - No she does not look like Britney.

by Anonymousreply 4701/03/2013

R30, she looks like Tinker Bell in that pose.

by Anonymousreply 4801/03/2013

Damn those sagging boobs!

by Anonymousreply 4901/03/2013

Marilyn did not, did not EVER, resemble Britney Spears!

Marilyn loved to be photographed, even in silly costumes and poses. That's probably one of the reasons she was so photogenic. She loved the camera, and it loved her.

In her earlier photos, she had a lush, natural, fresh beauty. After she became "glamourized" her look changed altogether. Her hair was bleached (eventually bleached white), she had surgery on her nose and a chin implant and some dental work. She was plastered with heavy make-up. And voila! She was "Norma Jean" no longer; she was Marilyn Monroe, sex symbol extraordinare.

Look at her figure. Her thighs were huge! At least by today's standards they were. She also had quite a large behind. Her breasts weren't enormous but were very nice indeed. She had lots of flesh and it looked gorgeous on her.

She wasn't a "cheap tramp." But she had no inhibitions about being nude. And she really did, uh, get around. But a cheap tramp? No, not really.

by Anonymousreply 5001/03/2013

She also had a bit of a belly.

by Anonymousreply 5101/03/2013

"Gee, thanks, perfessor.

Can we have ONE appreciation thread without these dimestore shrinks?"

Not a "perfessor" or a "dime store" (two words) shrink, just a fan who has read every book on MM written since 1972.

In yer langage, she spread 'em and enjoyed it.

by Anonymousreply 5201/04/2013

"Is it true that she had some sort of pre-silicone breast implants, or were her breasts larger after her pinup days from weight gain?"

Silicone injections into the breasts started in the early 1960s, and enclosed implants came along in the 1970s. If Marilyn's bust seemed to get bigger during the 1950s, it's probably because the studio wardrobe misses were stuffing more and more kapok into her bras.

Padding was at its height during the 1950s, when big boobs were in, surgery wasn't available, and actresses never showed their real boobs in public so nobody would hever know that an A cup had been padded up to a D.

by Anonymousreply 5301/04/2013

r35 pretty much said it.

Cheap? I don't think so. Did she do a lot of these photos and maybe more to come - hell ya. Was she a tramp - who uses that word nowadays?

Paris Hilton and Kim K made sex tapes just to become known with no greater ambition 50 years later.

Monroe seriously wanted to be an actress, and her story is sadly, well known. Norman Mailer wrote that she conquered the world that she could not use.

It is also well known from her own words that she was very pro-sex at a time when to say so would truly get you labelled a tramp.

Her pictures over the course of her life really do tell a story and that is what is most interesting - I think it is more than hindsight that retains her as so fascinating and special.

She was no diva and too complex a real woman for the gays to fully claim.

If she were still alive, she would be dead.

She is a bit of mystery.

by Anonymousreply 5401/04/2013

I love MM but she did some hooking and "dirty" pictures when she was hungry, literally and figutativly.

So what? Her last photo shoot with Bert Stern was nude. Her last, unfinished film had a nude-ish swimming scene.

She liked being nude.

Oddly enough, the biggest clue that her death scene was staged was the fact that she WAS nude.

The silly chick always wore a bra to bed in hopes it would keep her toys perky. If Shelley Winters was right about her fucking Einstein in the 50s, he never explained gravity to her.

by Anonymousreply 5501/04/2013

According to Lena Pepitone, Marilyn's maid in New York, Marilyn was stark naked at their first meeting. Pepitone was talking to some of Marilyn's staff, and suddenly Marilyn appeared in a doorway, "totally nude." Everyone was embarrassed, but Pepitone claimed she said "it's alright, we're all women here", and that broke the ice.

Pepitone said that Marilyn didn't like wearing clothes, ANY clothes, around the house, and that she lolled around naked in bed most of the day, talking on the phone or listening to photograph records or eating. She was married to Arthur Miller at the time; he holed up in his study "working" and they didn't much interact with each other all day. Pepitone's version of Marilyn depicts a very lonely (despite being married), depressed woman with no intellectual curiosity who drowned her sorrows in food and alcohol and pills.

by Anonymousreply 5601/04/2013

Her tits are really small in that sepia-toned pic. They look like A cups (and very saggy for someone so young with no kids.) She does look thinner though. The later nudes I've seen of her she was about a C cup.

by Anonymousreply 5701/04/2013

I guess she's right on the edge of adolescence here, and just coming into her remarkable looks.

by Anonymousreply 5801/04/2013

I love that photo r58

Thanks for posting it.

by Anonymousreply 5901/04/2013

R58, the Marilyn face is pretty evident in that pic, and she looks like she has a nice rack, but she's no more than 13/14 there.

by Anonymousreply 6001/04/2013

I've always found her prettier in her late '40s pictures than the 'Classic' Marilyn of the '50s.

And these Earl Moran snaps are playful and rather sweet. She looks like she's enjoying herself. Whereas the Bert Stern photos creep me out. There she looks drugged and/or drunk.

by Anonymousreply 6101/04/2013

Norma Jeane went to Mitchfest R58?

by Anonymousreply 6201/04/2013

"I've always found her prettier in her late '40s pictures than the 'Classic' Marilyn of the '50s."

I like them both, R61, but the earlier ones were better.

by Anonymousreply 6301/04/2013

Marilyn was not only a cheap tramp, she was also a dirty tramp. The worst kind.

by Anonymousreply 6401/04/2013

I still say there are too many dime-store shrinks on this thread.

There, ya cunt, I hyphenated it.

by Anonymousreply 6501/04/2013

She was above cheap.

Director John Huston, Marilyn Monroe, Louis Calhern and cinematographer Harold Rosson on the set of The Asphalt Jungle

by Anonymousreply 6611/16/2013

She had great legs. A body part not given much attention these days, come to think of it.

by Anonymousreply 6711/16/2013

Please, OP, those pics are tame compared to Hustler and the other shit today. They are actually very pretty and nothing grotesque or pornographic.

by Anonymousreply 6811/16/2013

What a bunch of bitches, especially the OP. I bet you're bigger whores.

by Anonymousreply 6911/16/2013

And you, OP, what joy and beauty have you brought into the world?

by Anonymousreply 7011/16/2013

She really did have an amazing camera presence, you can even see it at r58 when she was a kid. She seems to give herself 100% to the camera's eye.

Could the person who mentioned her staged death elaborate? if she was such an airhead/bimbo, what's the big conspiracy surrounding her death? Seems like she'd been in a downward spiral a while when she died.

by Anonymousreply 7111/16/2013

OP, did you clutch your rosary while typing this?

by Anonymousreply 7211/16/2013

R48, Tink was modeled on MM.

by Anonymousreply 7311/16/2013

The biggest "sex symbol" of the silent film era, Clara Bow, the "It Girl," carried on a correspondence with Marilyn. Bow handed over the "It" title to Marilyn, whom Bow saw as her true successor.

Likewise, the sex symbol of the early sound era, Mae West, also said that Marilyn was HER successor. For someone with as big an ego as West to say something like that is really something.

So it's official: Marilyn Monroe is THE sex symbol of Hollywood, period. And the OP is an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 7411/16/2013

Thank you, r70!

by Anonymousreply 7511/16/2013

[quote]So it's official: Marilyn Monroe is THE sex symbol of Hollywood, period. And the OP is an idiot.

Absolutely!

by Anonymousreply 7611/16/2013

.

by Anonymousreply 7711/16/2013

I don't believe that story.

by Anonymousreply 7811/16/2013

I don't think Monroe was "the" sex symbol of Hollywood. She was certainly one of the most attention-getting ones, and the clash of her vulnerable, child-like persona and overt sexual appearance made her an unusual one. Her unhappy, abbreviated life contributed to her legend. But people tend to forget how incredibly popular and huge Clara Bow was. She wsa the "It Girl", one of the biggest stars back then. And before Monroe, there was Jean Harlow, THE sex symbol of her era. This was said about her: "other sex symbols/blonde bombshells have followed, but it is Jean Harlow who all others are measured against."

Monroe is still incessantly talked and written about simply because her life and death were such an abysmal mess. And of course her fucking the Kennedys made for endless conspiracy theories and tawdry gossip.

by Anonymousreply 7911/16/2013

[R79] What horseshit. There is no explaining her appeal. She is timeless, no one really understands why. A hundred years from now, Marilyn will still be an icon and remembered.

by Anonymousreply 8011/16/2013

"What horseshit. There is no explaining her appeal. She is timeless, no one really understands why. A hundred years from now, Marilyn will still be an icon and remembered.'

There's plenty explaining of her appeal. There have been dozens of books written about the subject. Lots of people "understand why" Marilyn Monroe became a star.

It was the contrast of being child-like and in your face sexual that gave her an edge, and added to the fact that she was a miserable, insecure basket case despite seemingly having everything that everybody covets (beauty, wealth, fame, movie stardom) that made for quite a devastating combination.

You seem like one of those nutty fans poor dead Marilyn seems to have a lot of.

by Anonymousreply 8111/16/2013

I love the photos of Marilyn as a redhead. So fucking cute! Not gorgeous or hot but fucking CUTE. Like someone you just want to run up and hug because she's adorable.

And a redhead. We gingers rule.

by Anonymousreply 8211/16/2013

This is one of my favorites.

by Anonymousreply 8311/16/2013

You just wish Marilyn was just a cheap tramp.

by Anonymousreply 8412/05/2013

Monroe's being a cheap tramp isn't a revelation. Anyway, a lot of actresses are cheap tramps. That profession attracts them.

by Anonymousreply 8512/05/2013

I thought her nips would be better. do not like.

by Anonymousreply 8712/05/2013

Before becoming "Marilyn" she was one of the most successful print models out there. A big reason she couldn't catch a break is because they felt she was over exposed.

Anyway, forget the bios. The best books about Marilyn are the photo collections. She was radiant. Here are my fav pics of hers from her Norma Jean years.

[quote]Come on guys, stop being fiends! She was a troubled woman trapped in her world. Show some respect baby brats!

Why are most of Monroe's fans (fat) fraus? Like Jennifer Lawrence's fans they scream "I relate to her!" This is the sort of comment they typically make.

She was a tramp, whether you like it or not, darlin'. You're linking her naughty photos.

Gay men usually have better taste: Joan Crawford

by Anonymousreply 9412/05/2013

She's just freaking adorable (and still Norma Jeane) in R91's photograph.

by Anonymousreply 9512/05/2013

DUH. She never would have become a star if she wasn't so sexual in her pics. Her talent or lack thereof certainly didn't make her famous. Like many women before and after her, she used her looks and sex appeal to get ahead. I'm sure many of the women in the business at the time thought Marilyn was a ho.

by Anonymousreply 9612/05/2013

MM was alone - on the streets if you will. She didn't have the good fortune of a protective agent or family figure. She did what she had to do.

by Anonymousreply 9912/05/2013

she was a drug addict who had numerous affairs with many married men let people love her and hold her in high esteem. I dare to god hope the same does not happen to that wretched karadashian creature that seems to be wanting to emulating her. however she hasnt gotten it down 100 percent yet. no drug overdose for that little porker

by Anonymousreply 10012/05/2013

These poses are very tame. American pin-up allure was the 'girl next door' type. Marilyn had to be convinced to pose nude for the legendary red velvet series by Tom Kelley, which were eventually bought by Hugh Hefner for Playboy. One requirement she insisted on was that Kelley's wife be present during the shoot to keep a sense of propriety.

by Anonymousreply 10112/05/2013

"she was a drug addict who had numerous affairs with many married men let people love her and hold her in high esteem. I dare to god hope the same does not happen to that wretched karadashian creature that seems to be wanting to emulating her. "

That Kardashian creature seems to realize that fucking your way to the top has nothing to do with love. Monroe never got that one, she always thought her men would both help her career, and fill her bottomless pit of need with unconditional love.

by Anonymousreply 10212/05/2013

Is this breaking news? 50 years ago maybe

by Anonymousreply 10312/05/2013

Marilyn Monroe was, is and always will be Hollywood's Greatest Sex Goddess.

by Anonymousreply 10412/05/2013

Thank you R89

by Anonymousreply 10512/05/2013

She was so cute!

by Anonymousreply 10601/15/2014

[quote]This was said about her: "other sex symbols/blonde bombshells have followed, but it is Jean Harlow who all others are measured against."

That may have been true in the '30s, '40s, and '50s, but once Marilyn came along, she supplanted Harlow as the reigning sex symbol and nobody ever since has been able to replace MM.

Harlow would not have lasted though the '60s. Her looks are of its time. Compare the two in these photographs. Harlow looks very plain and somewhat homely. Can you picture that mug of hers on shirts and posters? Now look at Marilyn and her beauty is so striking, even today, which is partly why I think she has endured.

by Anonymousreply 10803/15/2014

duh. she also had no talent. Her image and personality were memorable but she was originally viewed as a joke. It's pathetic that she has become such an icon of glamour, beauty and "old hollywood". Who would want to be an unhappy, idiotic druggie?

by Anonymousreply 10903/15/2014

[quote]Who would want to be an unhappy, idiotic druggie?

Would it mean I could get top billing in an international blockbuster?

by Anonymousreply 11003/15/2014

The only thing that surprises me is Marilyn was not exactly all that big-breasted. Did she pad herself in her movies?

by Anonymousreply 11103/15/2014

Marilyn was trampy but it didn't matter. What she had that her imitators don't was vulnerability and charisma.

by Anonymousreply 11203/15/2014

To the resident DL Marilyn hater troll. Every so often you crawl from under your rock and spew your meaningless vitriol all over a woman who has been dead for over 5 decades. Why do you have such a burning need to piss all over a woman as essentially endearing as Monroe? What do you get out of it ? As a child where you dropped on your head by Jimmy James in full Marilyn drag ? Or is it because you cannot understand why a dead woman, gone for over 50 years is more loved then you will ever be in your sad lonely lifetime? . Is it painful for you to grasp the fact that people still find her fascinating a half a century after her passing? While your memory will fade as fast as cheap paint in the sun ? Your constant rants of MM being a idiot..a drug addict slut... tramp...a talentless whore are tedious at best and frankly speak more about your own mental state then MM's reputation. Please do not bore me by calling me a "Crazed fan girl " {Even though I'm sure that will make you feel much better about yourself} Or assume my reaction to your posts is propelled by a fanatic devotion to Monroe...It is not. I find your border line psychosis far more interesting then MM.

by Anonymousreply 11303/15/2014

I wonder if Marie Dressler dined on that while they were making DINNER ATT EIGHT together?

[quote]Even the stuffy Sir John G found that Marilyn brought an extraordinary quality to the screen - an infectious light he had never known.

Did he get anything for the infection she gave him? Did they have creams for that in those days?

by Anonymousreply 11703/15/2014

R114 and R115 are idiots.

No one who knew Jean Harlow considered her a "dog." Men were crazy about her; she was the undisputed sex symbol of her time. I don't think a "dog" would have been considered such.

Underneath the harsh makeup she was required to wear Harlow was beautiful. She doesn't look beautiful in all of her photos, but she was. Pictures of her a teenager show she was strikingly attractive even then.

Marilyn Monroe was probably more photogenic than Harlow as a whole. But she was a completely different type; soft and vunerable, whereas Harlow has a tough cookie persona. Harlow and Monroe were both blonde sex symbols but they were totally different.

And by the way, Harlow was adored by the casts and crews of the films she made. She was a beloved figure in Hollywood. Monroe was the total opposite; the people she worked with tended to either pity or loathe her.

by Anonymousreply 11803/15/2014

"That may have been true in the '30s, '40s, and '50s, but once Marilyn came along, she supplanted Harlow as the reigning sex symbol."

Monroe never "supplanted" Harlow. Harlow was long gone by the time Monroe became a star. If Monroe "supplanted" anybody, it wasn't Harlow.

by Anonymousreply 12208/07/2014

"Harlow would not have lasted though the '60s."

Neither would have Monroe. Her career was pretty much over in 1962. She couldn't work. She couldn't remember lines. She was a chronic no-show, which is why she was fired from her last movie. There was a lot of talk in her final days of projects in the making, but I doubt any of them would have come to fruition.

She was so much more than tits and ass. She was smart and she had a real talent for comedy. I remember watching Bus Stop for the first time with my father. He clearly admired her for her acting;) But me. When she sang Black Magic I laughed until my stomach hurt. I fell in love with Cherie, and Marilyn, right then and there. She was a sad, beautiful, talented mess of a woman who embraced her sexuality and loved her body. There will never be another like her.

r124: I have to agree with you. In her last few months she looked very ill and unhappy. She dreaded getting older. She was a star, certainly, but her erratic behavior made her too big a headache for any studio to deal with.

She may have been a bit trampy, but she was funny and frank about it.

You have all probably heard the story of her encounter with the press after her Playboy centerfold pics were published (in issue #1, btw, bitches):

Reporter: Miss Monroe, it appears that you're completely nude in these shots. What, if anything, did you have on?

MM: The radio.

Reporter: No, I mean what were you wearing?

MM: Chanel No. 5!

Whereupon sales of the already legendary perfume went through the roof.

"Look, there's nothing wrong with tits, but I don't go around throwing them into people's faces!"

-Joan Crawford

Thank you R138

by Anonymousreply 14008/07/2014

[quote]Heterosexual slut-shaming is acceptable because heterosexuals are the oppressor class.

Yeah, but I sincerely doubt that MM oppressed anyone for their sexual behavior.

Always in my Heart...

by Anonymousreply 14201/09/2015

R124 I was referring to their respective status as sex symbols. By the 1950s, Harlow's look (e.g. thin arched eyebrows, cupid bow's lips, marcelled wave) was seen as passe. Heck, in the 1965 biopic HARLOW, they made Carroll Baker resemble Marilyn more than Harlow.

Meanwhile, Marilyn's beauty remains timeless. Fifty two years have passed since her death, with fashions and standards of beauty changing. Even in today's stick-thin ideal, she remains the epitome of beauty and glamor.

by Anonymousreply 14401/09/2015

R106, she looks like Madonna during her Blond Ambition phase.

by Anonymousreply 14501/09/2015

Joan Collins tells Ruby Wax about Marilyn using the casting couch but that she herself never utilized it. Mm-hm.

by Anonymousreply 14601/09/2015

R145, reverse that. Marilyn was the original.

by Anonymousreply 14701/09/2015

Joan Collins wrote in her autobio that she whored herself out one weekend to some middle eastern royal for a diamond necklace.

So please Joan darling, please.

by Anonymousreply 14801/09/2015

R130 sums it up for me.

As far as film crews hating her, no-one hated working with her more than Billy Wilder but he willingly put his neck in the noose again to make 'Some Like It Hot', one of the greatest comedies (and films) of all time.

by Anonymousreply 14901/09/2015

She was so insecure, and all the men took advantage. Too bad she did not live long enough to realize what an icon she has become, named the greatest sex symbol of the 20th century much to the chagrin of Anita Ekberg (see/hear her remarks on You Tube).

by Anonymousreply 15001/09/2015

Probably Betty Davis or Loretta Young had bad tits...just sayin'.

by Anonymousreply 15101/09/2015

Everyone in Hollywood is a "cheap tramp" male and female. Let me amend that statement, everyone in show business is a cheap tramp.

by Anonymousreply 15201/09/2015

I did everything I could to save her.

by Anonymousreply 15301/09/2015

Marilyn was a Joan.

by Anonymousreply 15401/09/2015

R142 what a beautiful song! I wanted to kiss Marilyn in 1:44-1:45. She was so touching and sweet.

by Anonymousreply 15501/10/2015

It's no secret to anyone who's not blinded by the media hype that Marilyn used plastic surgery, casting couch skillzzzz and talking like a baby girl while dressed like a sexpot to get a career.

She couldn't act well, could not sing at all, and was on her way out when she died. Part of her lure is that she died relatively young. I'm not sure she would have been so popular had she lived longer.

by Anonymousreply 15601/10/2015

R156 that's not Marilyn. It's Marilyn impersonator Susan Griffiths. She's recreating Marilyn's "Last Sitting." IT was filmed for Elton John whenever he performs the song in concert:

by Anonymousreply 15701/10/2015

Well, R157, i suspected that in some scenes of that videoclip, it was an impresonator, but in the 1:44-1:45, it seems like it is Marilyn. Maybe, i'm wrong though. Are you sure that during all the scenes, it is an impersonator and not the true Marilyn?

by Anonymousreply 15801/10/2015

R158 are you referring to this?

by Anonymousreply 15901/10/2015

R156, she had actually been re-hired to finish Something's Got to Give when she died. The studio AND Dean Martin had that much faith in her. (He would not continue the film without her and they did eventually re-cast his role when the movie went forward with a new name "Move Over Darling") She was most definitely NOT "on the way out" but poised for a new boost in her career. What the future might have held after SGTG is anyone's guess but it is pretty certain she would have remained a popular public figure for several more years. She was only 36 when she died.

She was thinner and more beautiful at the time of her death than she had been in years.

Her work in Bus Stop should have been nominated for an Oscar. She was a damned fine actress who rarely, if ever, got a chance to show it. She was a member of the Actors Studio in New York City. There are many stories about how stunningly effective she was onstage in Studio sessions and workshop performances. She yearned to do the film version of The Brothers Karamazov. She was more intelligent than her public image. By far. Her sexpot image overtook her, though, and ended up being a sort of prison for her. But she could turn that shit on and off at will. There are stories of her doing just that. She would change the way she walked, the way she held herself. The way she held her head. She would take off her headscarf and sunglasses and "Marilyn" would appear. Susan Strasberg had stories of witnessing this.

And she was emotionally a wreck and had insurmountable damages from her hardscrabble childhood that eventually destroyed her. But she is forever an icon and not ONLY because she died young. People who make broad brush negative and dismissive sweeping generalizations about her are really uninformed about who she was, what she was and what her true legacy is.

by Anonymousreply 16001/10/2015

I don't get the worship that gay men have for this plastic enhanced cheap tramp. I mean she was the Kardashian of her time really.

At least Betty Page was 100% real - no plastic.

by Anonymousreply 16101/10/2015

I think of her as an early sufferer of the kind of torment Jeffery Epstein's victims went through. "Marilyn" was essentially an orphan. Who better?

by Anonymousreply 16201/10/2015

R160 typical delusional fan. There were far better actresses during Monroe's period in Hollyweird.

and yes, dying young IS what made her such an "icon" a la James Dean and others. She died before she declined in popularity, or some scandal ruined her reputation.

Without the casting couch and plastic surgery, she wouldn't have gotten anywhere on just her acting ability lol

by Anonymousreply 16301/10/2015

R159, yes! Well?

by Anonymousreply 16401/10/2015

I don't really think Marilyn had radical plastic surgery. I think all she had was a nose job. Her tits were real. Nothing like today's plasticized Barbies.

by Anonymousreply 16501/10/2015

R161 you make it sound like she had a complete overhaul re plastic surgery. There's this myth that Marilyn was just a plain Jane who was made over by the Hollywood machine.

In fact, she had been a successful model for several years before Hollywood came calling. She was already pretty as Norma Jeane in a girl-next-door way. The striking transformation from Norma Jeane to Marilyn Monroe is really about wholesomeness to sultry, not mousy to sexy.

Plus, the only things she had done were the removal of the bump from the tip of her nose, dental work, and crescent shaped silicone implants to soften her jawline, but those were eventually absorbed by the body. In other words, they enhanced her already striking features, not completely changed them. But what made the transformation so striking was the bleached hair and makeup.

by Anonymousreply 16601/10/2015

R164 no, the entire video is Susan Griffiths. It was taken directly from Elton John's music video which can be seen at R157.

by Anonymousreply 16701/10/2015

I know it's a revived (a few times) old thread, but it is certainly true that today's New Puritans who, as they post their cocks and snatches and search for on-line hook-ups and have no real respect for themselves or others, debase the application of human form for both aesthetic and erotic (as well as humorous) artistic purposes.

Hypocrisy always has fit its mold.

Calling this silliness - Marilyn's cheesecake - smutty is the Nouveau Philistine Cunt approach to mind control.

by Anonymousreply 16801/10/2015

Hmmm...ok, R167. Thanks for enlightening me. Well, Susan took me by surprise, i thought it was Marilyn in that moment. Nice job.

by Anonymousreply 16901/10/2015

R163 there are many factors to why Marilyn has become an icon. It wasn't just one thing. Yes, an early death froze her beauty in time, but it was also the gossip and inconsistencies surrounding her death that have partly kept her name alive. There are several books and documentaries concerning that topic alone.

Other factors: She has iconic movie scenes and images that have been recreated/parodied ad nauseam. For example, the skirt-blowing scene in THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH. That look, with the white pleated skirt and halter top, has also become iconic. Four years ago, the dress fetched $5.6 million at auction, a record for an article of clothing, breaking her previous record when the "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" gown sold for $1.2 million in 1999. By comparison, Audrey Hepburn's equally iconic little black dress from BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S only sold for $807,000 in 2006.

Anyway, there's also her renditions of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Happy Birthday, Mr. President." Not to mention Andy Warhol's famous diptych of her was named the third most influential piece of modern art in a survey of 500 artists, critics, and others in 2004. Liz Taylor's similar diptych was made around the same time but nobody remembers or copies that one.

Marilyn's marriages to Joe DiMaggio and Arthur Miller have also kept her name alive. DiMaggio is a baseball hero and legend, and his romance with Marilyn plays an important part of his latter life, especially since he never remarried and always carried a torch for her, and arranged her funeral and had a dozen roses sent to her grave weekly for twenty years. According to his lawyer, who was by his beside, DiMaggio uttered, "I'll be with Marilyn again."

As for Miller, he's considered one of America's greatest playwrights, with DEATH OF A SALESMAN and THE CRUCIBLE considered classics and are constantly being revived or put on in school plays. His 5 year marriage to Marilyn also constitutes an important part of his life, which he dramatized in AFTER THE FALL.

Marilyn's dalliances with the equally iconic Kennedys has also kept her name alive. She's almost always featured in a movie or book about them.

Lastly, unlike other blonde bombshells of her era, Marilyn has classic movies. From a bit part in ALL ABOUT EVE, to small supporting role in THE ASPHALT JUNGLE, to full-blown starring roles in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, BUS STOP, and especially SOME LIKE IT HOT which was voted AFI's #1 comedy of all time.

All of the above contribute to her lasting power.

by Anonymousreply 17001/10/2015

Her comic timing was incredible. I saw Asphalt Jungle in a theater once and aside from interest in her appearance, her line readings (that of a cunning, not-so-dumb blonde) triggered big, spontaneous laughs. She stole the movie in about ten lines. Star power.

by Anonymousreply 17101/10/2015

Shut up R1 you unhinged Frau cunt and never post here again

by Anonymousreply 17201/10/2015

She had a nose job, chin implant and possibly silicone injection implants in her breasts, as they were infected shortly before she died.

She became famous for things that had nothing to do with acting! A scene of her skirt blowing up? wow that takes such great acting skills...She was famous for sexy outfits, a baby girl voice, the unnatural platinum blonde hair and her personal life.

Basically her fame came from everything EXCEPT her crappy acting and non-existent singing skills.

People are absurd to put her up as an icon. She was a no-talent, slutty, plastic headcase.

by Anonymousreply 17301/10/2015

Why waste time "defending" Marilyn Monroe to some assclown contrarians who want to argue about her talent, her fame, her iconic status? I mean, really. What a waste of time. Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one. And everybody can have his own opinion.

I posted at R160 and almost deleted it but wanted to say a few nice things about her, not trash her. Who knows what damaged or jerk person is at his keyboard egging you on to defend Marilyn Monroe? These posters are always to be found on Datalounge. Lurking. Waiting to cut you down for taking a popular opinion or for saying something nice or supportive or positive about a celebrity. Take the bait at your own risk.

by Anonymousreply 17401/10/2015

Wow, R173. You sound like a real asshole.

by Anonymousreply 17501/10/2015

lmao these old kweens never change. How am I and others who agree assholes for being honest about this woman? I don't care if she was your childhood idol. I'm not saying anything about Monroe that's not true and you know it. The truth hurts. Why is it so hard to admit the facts? Get the fuck over it.

It's fine to be a fan but to pretend negative things about her weren't true, or that she owed her career solely to "talent", "presence" and "natural beauty" is laughable and delusional.

by Anonymousreply 17601/10/2015

Yea R1 is a Christian weirdo. So Marilyn was a cheap tramp? Big deal. Most woman were back then - still are I guess. Not a big deal.

by Anonymousreply 17701/10/2015

She was luminescent.
