Patti LaBelle

What's her best work? I want to like her, but everything I've heard except "Lady Marmalade" and "Over the Rainbow" leaves me cold.

Patti's best work!

by Anonymousreply 112/29/2012

I personally think this is the pinnacle of Patti's music...followed closely by her duet with Michael McDonald.

by Anonymousreply 212/29/2012

I agree R2

by Anonymousreply 312/29/2012

This sums things up

by Anonymousreply 412/29/2012

It is her cooking

by Anonymousreply 512/29/2012

Her music with Labelle is much more interesting than her solo work, though I'm fond of "If You Asked Me To."

by Anonymousreply 612/29/2012

OP, there are many great LaBelle classics, but if you wanna take it to church, then this is the tune for you...

by Anonymousreply 712/29/2012

Another great one. With Michael McDonald...

by Anonymousreply 812/29/2012

I always preferred the peppy "Stir It Up" to her other pop hit at the time, "New Attitude"...

by Anonymousreply 912/29/2012

R2, that's what I'm afraid of. I just don't care for that style of music. I love "Lady Marmalade" but the adult contemporary pap she did in the '80s & '90s is incredibly boring to me.

by Anonymousreply 1012/29/2012

She (they) did a very interesting version of "Wild Horses" in the 70s.

Yes, the 80s stuff is pap. I'm glad R10 came right out and said it.

What's my name? Patty Patty!

by Anonymousreply 1212/29/2012

Patti's real greatest work? Master of shade throwing.

by Anonymousreply 1312/29/2012

Check out Patti's incredible Emmy nominated performance of "You'll Never Walk Alone" from the 1985 TV special Motown Returns to the Apollo

What link do you need to use to have the video show in the thread?

by Anonymousreply 1512/29/2012

This just TOTALLY took me back and blessed me! A flood of memories just came rushing in. Thanks, R14!

by Anonymousreply 1612/29/2012

Watch Patti turn out "Isn't It A Shame," complete with drama queen histrionics. She is awesome live.

by Anonymousreply 1712/29/2012

R17, How the HELL did you make that video show up in your post?

by Anonymousreply 1812/29/2012

Watch Patti turn out "You Are So Beautiful" with Joe Cocker (Billy Preston on keys).

by Anonymousreply 1912/29/2012

Patti LaBelle/Diana Ross Infamous Mic Toss

by Anonymousreply 2012/29/2012

I am not much of a fan of Patti, but she is fun live.

This is her best work to me, singing background, with Labelle, on Laura Nyro's Gonna Take a Miracle album.

It's been a long Time Coming is also a great song with Labelle. It was used as the closing song in the movie "Precious."

by Anonymousreply 2112/29/2012

Patti and Cyndi Lauper having a sing off on Time After Time.

They are well matched and I think good friends? It is pretty sweet.

I have fun memories of my mother stoned and making me watch this repeatedly on VHS.

by Anonymousreply 2212/29/2012

I'm actually quite partial to this album:

by Anonymousreply 2312/29/2012

If You Asked Me To. The only song of hers I can stand. For the most part she leaves her irritating mannerisms and shrieking out of the song. She takes it down a notch or two and that's a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 2412/29/2012

I tend to like her "mannerisms and shrieking," R24 -- but If You Asked Me To is my favorite Patti L. song. Thanks for sharing it.

by Anonymousreply 2512/29/2012

The Music Is My Life, a fierce disco number

by Anonymousreply 2612/29/2012

I always liked her song "Yo Mister" that Prince wrote and produced for her. I don't know why it wasn't a hit because it's really good.

by Anonymousreply 2712/29/2012

I Don't Go Shopping is one of my favorites. Does Patti still perform live?
