When was the Village Voice last relevant? 1984? 1987?

by Anonymousreply 212/28/2012

Clearly they goofed. Prometheus was the worst film of 2012.

by Anonymousreply 312/28/2012

They got 'Amour' right, and they got 'Hitchcock' right.

And r3 is correct, 'Prometheus' is the worst film of the year bar none.

Shame on Ridley Scott, who shouldn't be allowed to shoot the sequel to that mess.

No Les Miz?

by Anonymousreply 512/28/2012

The Master is shit. Boring shit. It figures that the Voice would deem it best of the year.

by Anonymousreply 612/28/2012

Cloud Atlas must be pretty good, then.

by Anonymousreply 712/28/2012

Seeing Beasts of the Southern Piece of Shit on a "Worst of" list has absolutely made my day!! So, so happy!

by Anonymousreply 812/28/2012

Zero Dark Thirty is #2 on the list?

Andrew Sarris must be spinning in his grave.

by Anonymousreply 912/28/2012

For the most part, it's a ridiculous list that seriously damages whatever credibility the VOICE may have left as an arbiter of quality in films.

by Anonymousreply 1012/28/2012

Watched "Once Upon a Time in Anatolia" just a few days ago. It's an absolutely astonishing film, with breathtaking cinematography. An example of how subtle, simply observed moments can just hit you emotionally so hard. Not easy to watch, though, it's long (2 1/2 hours) and many scenes are lengthy and practically silent, save for the wind blowing through the trees, thunder in the distance.

by Anonymousreply 1112/28/2012

Cloud Atlas is hardly the worst film of the year. Flawed yes, not as good as the book, but a noble effort.

by Anonymousreply 1212/28/2012

THE MASTER? The fucking Master at #1? Christ.

by Anonymousreply 1312/28/2012

Anytime I see "The Master" on a 10 Best list I know the critic is a pretentious hack and I am immediately suspicious of the other entries.

Joe Morgenstern of the WSJ had fucking Silver Linings Playbook as his best pic of the year, which was another total WTF moment. A completely sappy movie that was completely predictable.

by Anonymousreply 1412/28/2012

The Master was awful, what are these critics smoking?

by Anonymousreply 1512/28/2012

I really enjoyed Cloud Atlas, despite its many flaws.

I though Holy Motors was ridiculously pretentious.

by Anonymousreply 1612/28/2012

"God Bless America" might be happy to be mentioned at all, I'd never heard of it. It's the plot of "Falling Down" done as a comedy. Probably not that good, but it does get a fresh RT rating in the high 60s.

I thought Prometheus was cool to watch in 3D, but that was about it. I think I was too fascinated by the 3D to even follow the movie, or care about it.

Yeah, I know.

by Anonymousreply 1912/29/2012

I think that's a legitimate point, r19. If the movie looked really good and had good 3D, I can see how it could be enjoyed on that level only. I'd see a movie on that basis alone.

I loved the Village Voice, my favourite was the Indian. Which one did you like?
