Box office flops of 2012

W.E. directed by Madonna

Worldwide box office = $868,439

by Anonymousreply 3412/27/2012

That movie Angelina Jolie directed didn't do any better.

Am I sensing a trend?

by Anonymousreply 112/26/2012

Robert Pattinson's Cosmopolis

Domestic Total Gross: $763,556

by Anonymousreply 212/26/2012

The Paperboy = $693,286

by Anonymousreply 312/26/2012

Rosie O'Donnell declared Madonna's movie "brilliant." She says the same thing about any turd that drops out of Madonna's ass.

by Anonymousreply 412/26/2012

John Carter

by Anonymousreply 512/26/2012

At least Angelina's movie was in Serbian (or whatever). It's a testament to the power of Harvey that he was able to wrangle an Oscar nomination for that piece of shit Madge 'directed'.

by Anonymousreply 612/26/2012

Don't forget the biggest flop of all time, Les Miserables!

by Anonymousreply 712/26/2012

John Carter was definitely a flop based on its cost, but it did earn over $280M ($70+M domestic, $200+M foreign), so it did cover its production budget.

by Anonymousreply 812/26/2012

Was The Paperboy the Zefron and Kidman film?

by Anonymousreply 912/27/2012

She's a good, loyal, longtime friend. Perhaps that's a foreign concept to you.

by Anonymousreply 1112/27/2012

But the studio doesn't see that full $280 million. Theater owners aren't running a charity. They split the box office, so the studio is only seeing about 55% of that $280 million. Meaning Disney LOST money. Of course there are other revenue streams (DVD, TV rights, merchandise, etc) but who knows if that makes up for it? I'm guessing not.

by Anonymousreply 1212/27/2012

r11: Or a good, loyal, devoted asskisser.

Rosie is ultimately a fangirl who made good.

by Anonymousreply 1312/27/2012

Don't feed the troll. This thread was obviously just started to bash Madonna.

OP could care less what other films flopped this year.

by Anonymousreply 1412/27/2012

W.E. actually under performed, but not by much.

It was always deemed an "art house" film so no one expected it to gross any kind of real $$.

Ditto with Jolie's movie.

A flop, dear OP, is John Carter.

A flop, dear OP, is is Alex Cross.

by Anonymousreply 1512/27/2012

I'll have you know that "W.E." made 12 Million alone in Latvia.

by Anonymousreply 1612/27/2012

[quote]W.E. actually under performed, but not by much.

Hmm, it didn't even make one million WORLDWIDE box office. The film cost $15 million. It's a flop.

by Anonymousreply 1712/27/2012

r15 & r16 = desperate Madonna fanbots, humiliated by the spectacularly low figures for "W.E."

Oh, and "Swept Away" was also just an 'arthouse film', and yet it is considered a massive flop, everywhere, by everyone. Why should different rules apply to "W.E." then?

Guess what, fanbots?

True arthouse films don't receive a media blitz PR campaign, to promote the movie. They aren't pushed at the Golden Globes, either. Both Madonna and the studio were expecting this film to do 'ok', at least better than the other turds in her filmograhpy.

Starfuckers like Harvey Weinstein BADLY wanted this film to 'happen'. Sadly, it never did. It was... a flop! A flop, commensurate to the expectations attached to it.

If the leading lady of a film gets a cover on 'Glamour Magazine' or 'Vogue', together with the director of her film, then everybody involved believes at least SOME of the large readership will go out and see that film.

But none of them did! The film disappeared almost as quickly as Madonna's album 'MDNA', which flew down the charts as well.

See now how stupid you look, fanbots?

by Anonymousreply 1812/27/2012

Being an art-house movie is no excuse to fail to clear even a piddly 1 million. The movie is a huge critical failure, it has a pathetic 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. If it had been any good, it could've been an art-house hit and made 10 million and up.

A flop, dear r15, is Madonna's latest turd.

by Anonymousreply 1912/27/2012

R18 really needs to see a shrink...stat!

It's like a crazy man's ramblings.

I hope he is nowhere near any firearms.

by Anonymousreply 2012/27/2012

"My film was never meant to be SUCCESSFUL!!!!"

by Anonymousreply 2112/27/2012

Hi Madonna fanbot at r20!

Nice to see you've run out of talking points.

Madonna has had a rough year this year! Flop upon flop. Don't let that drag you down, though... you sound irritated.

She will be out with new material in no time, anyway.

I still love her old music btw.

by Anonymousreply 2212/27/2012

[quote]See now how stupid you look, fanbots?

Less stupid than you for failing to realize that r16 was obviously joking, tbh.

by Anonymousreply 2312/27/2012

Apologies to r16, as I meant r14 in my post at r18. It was indeed a typo.

You can be relieved, r23.

by Anonymousreply 2412/27/2012

Not a fanbot...just sick of this bitch being talked about non-stop on DL. No wonder no one good posts here anymore.

by Anonymousreply 2512/27/2012

R25, you're projecting.

The thread is called "Box office flops of 2012"

It's not a Madonna thread.

by Anonymousreply 2612/27/2012

Coriolanus = worldwide: $1,072,602

Production budget: $10 million

by Anonymousreply 2712/27/2012

[quote]Rosie is ultimately a fangirl who made good.

And that just chaps your ass doesn't it Sweetie.

by Anonymousreply 2812/27/2012

Anyway, let's make a list of the flops Madonna has piled up this year. Just to piss off the fanbots!

- MDNA raced down the charts faster than any other other album in billboard history (in its second week of release). FLOP!

- all three singles off the album failed to register with the general public OR radio stations. Two of them didn't even enter the top 100. FLOP, FLOP and FLOP!

- Her Superbowl performance (the only highlight of her year) failed to generate any interest in her single, 'Give Me All Your Luvin'. FLOP!

- Zero Grammy nominations for the album, not even for electronic and/or dance album. FLOP!

- "W.E." failed to do any business worldwide, not even in the UK, the most loyal Madonna market anywhere. FLOP!

- Her Golden Globe winning song, 'Masterpiece', wasn't even released as a soundtrack single, due to lack of interest in the film. FLOP!

- "W.E." stands at 13 % on rottentomatoes. FLOP!

- Her tour, shockingly, has done less business than the previous one. How embarrassing, considering her tours were the big selling argument for that 120 million contract with LN. FLOP!

- She even had to cancel the Australian leg of her tour, because they couldn't sell enough tickets there. And she hasn't even toured Australia in twenty years! FLOP!

What a flop year for Madonna! :(

by Anonymousreply 2912/27/2012

yeah, r22, and r29, she's such a flop that you've posted DOZENS and DOZENS of times to suggest this.

The world of facts thinks otherwise.

This was one of her biggest years. Ever.

But, enough feeding the deluded troll (are you EJ by any chance?) since this isn't even a Madonna thread.

by Anonymousreply 3112/27/2012

r31, the facts tell us that two of her three singles failed to crack the top 100.

You do know what facts are, right?

by Anonymousreply 3212/27/2012

[quote]Don't feed the troll. This thread was obviously just started to bash Madonna.

Madbot calling someone else a troll. LMFAO

by Anonymousreply 3312/27/2012

ABOUT CHERRY, with James Franco, Heather Graham, and Lili Taylor only managed a measly $3,000. It was... er... an art film, but that is pretty impressively disastrous.
