Vivien Leigh has died

CNN is reporting her death. She was 53. Tuberculosis is suspected to be the cause of death. Rest in peace, Vivien.

by Anonymousreply 12420 hours ago

Yep, she has died, in July 1967, shortly before my 3rd birthday.

by Anonymousreply 112/25/2012

Thanks for the news flash.

by Anonymousreply 212/25/2012

Is she dead, or dead dead?

by Anonymousreply 312/25/2012

Well fiddle-dee-dee!

by Anonymousreply 412/25/2012

"I'll think about that tomorrow".

by Anonymousreply 512/25/2012

And hopefully the OP will soon follow

by Anonymousreply 612/25/2012

In other news, The War of 1812 is finally over.

by Anonymousreply 712/25/2012

Frankly, OP?

by Anonymousreply 812/25/2012

I can't think about this today; I'll go crazy. I'll think about this tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 912/25/2012

One of my favorite scenes. 'Ship of Fools', just a couple years ago....

by Anonymousreply 1012/25/2012

.

by Anonymousreply 1112/25/2012

Don't fret. We still have julia Ormond.

by Anonymousreply 1201/24/2013

In other news Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

by Anonymousreply 1301/24/2013

FUCK! Now there will NEVER be a sequel to Gone With The Wind. First Clark, now Viv. What the hell is the world coming to? At least we still have Judy Garland!

by Anonymousreply 1401/25/2013

Smoking and TB are never a good combination.

by Anonymousreply 1501/25/2013

In the 70's Bertolucci wanted to do a sequel to Gone With The Wind with Geraldine Page and Walter Matthau, never came to pass, but would have been interesting.

by Anonymousreply 1601/25/2013

President and Mrs. Johnson have sent condolences to the family.

by Anonymousreply 1701/25/2013

at least spell her name right

by Anonymousreply 1801/25/2013

Well, that's just swell. I was going to dodge the draft, but FUCK IT, I may as well go to Vietnam now. This news is so depressing. I went to see Bonnie & Clyde at the drive-in last night, but I was too depressed to enjoy it. Even listening to "Sgt. Pepper" isn't cheering me up. The Beatles have always cheered me up in the past. I hope Star Trek is not a rerun this week. I'll just die. Star Trek is the only thing in my life that I can depend on to make me feel groovy when I'm feeling bummed. Well, I like Mission: Impossible and Get Smart, too. Viv, you were one of a kind. I loved you dearly. I just don't know how I will go on. Oh well, I still have the memories. Maybe they'll play Gone With The Wind on TV one of these days.

by Anonymousreply 1901/25/2013

Just heard the news over the Lear Jet Stereo 8 while warming up the Corvair. The Philco's on the fritz, I just got got back from Rexall's-they have the best tube tester in town. Never seen Gone With the Wind, maybe one day it'll be on TV..

by Anonymousreply 2001/25/2013

The garbage collector and myriad door to door salesmen will be sad.

by Anonymousreply 2101/25/2013

WhaaAAt!?

by Anonymousreply 2201/25/2013

Jack Nicholson warned her about playing Blanche! The role is cursed!

by Anonymousreply 2301/25/2013

CNN didn't exist until the 1980, toots.

FAIL.

by Anonymousreply 2401/25/2013

Who?

by Anonymousreply 2501/25/2013

Mother is dead!!? Why was I not told?

by Anonymousreply 2601/25/2013

Lawd! That girl was tetched in the head.

by Anonymousreply 2701/25/2013

I told you I's goin', and goin' I am!

by Anonymousreply 2801/25/2013

She met her Waterloo Bridge.

by Anonymousreply 2901/25/2013

Now I'll be the real Queen of Notley Abby.

by Anonymousreply 3001/25/2013

She took the heavenly streetcar to Tara in the clouds.

by Anonymousreply 3101/25/2013

I'm sure this will be thoroughly disturbing news when I'm born several years from now.

by Anonymousreply 3201/25/2013

Oh, dear. Not Viv. Do The Monkees know yet? Davy will be devastated.

by Anonymousreply 3301/25/2013

Viv is in heaven now discussing her bi-polar disorder with Judy Garland and Dusty Springfield.

by Anonymousreply 3401/25/2013

Homegirl did NOT age well.

by Anonymousreply 3501/25/2013

R18 It is spelled right, nitwit!

by Anonymousreply 3601/25/2013

No, R36; it should be V-A-N-C-E.

by Anonymousreply 3701/25/2013

R37 If it's Vance, it should be V-I-V-I-A-N.

by Anonymousreply 3801/25/2013

OMG A PLANE HIT THE TWIN TOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG OMG

by Anonymousreply 3901/25/2013

TWO PLANES HIT...!! I'm pretty sure it was something planned by President Cheney.

by Anonymousreply 4001/25/2013

Boys, we still have Judy. Let's hang on to that.

by Anonymousreply 4101/25/2013

How's Larry holding up ?

by Anonymousreply 4201/25/2013

He obviously meant John Travolta asshole.

by Anonymousreply 4301/25/2013

I never miss a Vivien Leigh musical.

Except when they name them TOVARICH, fer chrissakes.

by Anonymousreply 4401/25/2013

I had heard she wasn't well. Poor thing. She's in a better place now.

by Anonymousreply 4501/25/2013

R37 You are joking, right?

Tell me you understand there's a difference between Vivien Leigh (actress, Gone With the Wind) and Vivian Vance (actress/comedienne, I Love Lucy)?

by Anonymousreply 4601/25/2013

[quote] OMG A PLANE HIT THE TWIN TOWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG OMG

The WTC is an insatiable bottom.

by Anonymousreply 4701/25/2013

Somehow, I always thought I'd go first.

by Anonymousreply 4801/25/2013

Also, I always wished Joan would go first.

by Anonymousreply 4901/25/2013

[quote]Tell me you understand there's a difference between Vivien Leigh (actress, Gone With the Wind) and Vivian Vance (actress/comedienne, I Love Lucy)?

Sure. Vivien wore drapes. Vivian hung them.

by Anonymousreply 5001/25/2013

Although I'm sure it's for the best that she and Olivier never had a child (considering that her struggle with bipolar-ness was manifesting itself by the end of the marriage), still, the world missed out on somebody who probably would have been an incredible actor!

by Anonymousreply 5101/25/2013

Her daughter from her first marriage didn't really inherit her beauty.

by Anonymousreply 5201/25/2013

R49, Lol.

by Anonymousreply 5301/25/2013

I'll wear black but only for a week! Black is not a good color for me.

by Anonymousreply 5402/09/2013

Olivia? She's a mealy mouthed ninny and ah hate huh!

by Anonymousreply 5502/09/2013

Somebody told me they saw aunt Pittypat in the Atlanta city mall last week, said she was still looking good for her age.

by Anonymousreply 5602/09/2013

LOL, R47. Can I ride that handbasket with you?

by Anonymousreply 5702/09/2013

And I am STILL here, ladies!!!

by Anonymousreply 5804/16/2013

OP, I think you'd better check the control panel on your Tardis.

by Anonymousreply 5904/16/2013

Nothing yet on CNN. For some reason they are obsessed with some runner falling at the Boston Marathon. I'll monitor the situation and report back when when I get more information.

by Anonymousreply 6004/16/2013

No, she's only outside looking in.

by Anonymousreply 6104/17/2013

I must say this has certainly kept my butt entertained tonight...LOL!

by Anonymousreply 6208/14/2013

Thank GOD!

by Anonymousreply 6308/14/2013

That's genuine hate.

Genuine hate.

Very sad.

by Anonymousreply 6408/15/2013

Oh Vivien Leigh we love you get up.

by Anonymousreply 6508/15/2013

Take me back where I belong -

Wilkes-Barre, PA!

by Anonymousreply 6608/16/2013

too soon.

by Anonymousreply 6701/27/2015

Thank God she lived just long enough to experience the terror of the 6-Day War!

by Anonymousreply 6801/27/2015

I actually saw the Boston tryout of "Tovarch" a few years ago when I was in high school. It was a school trip, Saturday afternoon. She was great, but not much of a singer (fine dancer though).

by Anonymousreply 6901/27/2015

she would be 102 today.

by Anonymousreply 7001/27/2015

She'll never go hungry again.

by Anonymousreply 7101/27/2015

From her apartment in London.

by Anonymousreply 7201/27/2015

I hope she gets in the Oscar memoriam.

by Anonymousreply 7301/28/2015

[quote] In the 70's Bertolucci wanted to do a sequel to Gone With The Wind with Geraldine Page and Walter Matthau,

Tony Randall as Ashley and Brett Somers as Melanie

by Anonymousreply 7401/28/2015

R10, here's my favorite Leigh moment in "Ship of Fools"

by Anonymousreply 7501/28/2015

Well she had a daughter with someone else and Larry had children with other women.

If they had had children with one another, and I'm not sure why they didn't, their children wouldn't have been more fucked up than most of us.

At least they probably would have been gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 7601/28/2015

Jeepers --

The three astronauts preparing to go into space got killed in a test on the launch pad...

by Anonymousreply 7701/28/2015

She'll never catch me now!!

by Anonymousreply 7801/28/2015

first allysa m., joan r., greg splitt, rick m, and now vivian l. talk about sad times. we will see them in the future hopefully

by Anonymousreply 7901/28/2015

She's fine, she sends her love.

by Anonymousreply 8001/28/2015

But I wanted to direct her in my new off broadway play! *cries*

by Anonymousreply 8102/18/2015

we would have been amazing in a film together.

by Anonymousreply 8205/26/2015

Good riddance.

by Anonymousreply 8305/26/2015

She was so good in that movie where the house burned down and she had to move to New Orleans where Warren Beatty raped her. I loved her as the ballet dancer on the bridge too. RIP. Great actress and beauty. Had she been ill long?

by Anonymousreply 8405/26/2015

She was 'married' to the renowned homosexual Laurence Olivier!

by Anonymousreply 8505/26/2015

That clip at r72, with all that smoking, is a little bit creepy - since they all died of diseases related to smoking (emphysema, TB, lung cancer). (Well, all except Goldwyn, who doesn't smoke in the segment).

by Anonymousreply 8605/26/2015

[quote]CNN is reporting her death. She was 53. Tuberculosis is suspected to be the cause of death. Rest in peace, Vivien.

That's very sad. But as long as we still have Kate for the next 36 years, everything's fine!

by Anonymousreply 8705/26/2015

What moving are you talking about R84?

by Anonymousreply 8805/26/2015

[quote] Oh, dear. Not Viv. Do The Monkees know yet? Davy will be devastated.

Mmmmmmm...,..,...

by Anonymousreply 8905/26/2015

I rely on the kindness of strangers.

by Anonymousreply 9005/26/2015

People did age badly back then huh? She was a matron at 53. That said, one of the most beautiful women ever. No woman today comes near.

by Anonymousreply 9105/26/2015

R84 was trying to be clever, conflating three of her big movies (GWTW, STREETCAR, THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE).

But it was Atlanta that burned down in GWTW, not her house. Her house, Tara, is still standing after the Yankee onslaught. Twelve Oaks is trashed, but not Tara.

by Anonymousreply 9205/26/2015

R76, Leigh did become pregnant when she was married to Olivier but she had a miscarriage.

by Anonymousreply 9305/26/2015

It appears that some of you arrived a wee bit too late for the funeral.

by Anonymousreply 9405/26/2015

Actually I had a friend my coworkers told me had died....and they were lying. He was very much alive, which I found out when he really did die sometime later.

I always wondered why people would do such a thing.

by Anonymousreply 9505/26/2015

Does this mean Vivien won't get a chance to redeem herself after getting fired from "Elephant Walk"?

I heard that young starlet bitch Elizabeth Taylor manipulated the producers into firing Viv, so she could take over Vivien's role.

(But Viv got the last laugh - she paid an Indian shaman to put an Elephant Walk curse on Liz - let's see how slender Liz looks walking away, swinging her "trunk" in a few years.)

by Anonymousreply 9605/26/2015

On a related note, in 1965 Elizabeth Taylor, struggling in vain to lose enough weight to be believable in "The Sandpiper" (in the end they just threw a big caftan over her), had a beautiful young actress named Sharon Tate fired and removed from the set, because Liz couldn't stand the competition.

The only hit that comes out of a Helen Lawson show is Helen Lawson, and that's ME, baby, remember?

by Anonymousreply 9705/26/2015

R34 Isn't "bi-polar" just another term for "female hysteria?"

by Anonymousreply 9805/26/2015

It's a little like blockade running!

by Anonymousreply 9905/26/2015

Vivien had to be let go from Elephant Walk after shooting had already begun and in a few long shots of her character and Peter Finch walking around his plantation, it's very obvious (and later confirmed) that it's short and by then thick waisted Vivien onscreen, not Taylor.

by Anonymousreply 10005/27/2015

As beautiful as Elizabeth Taylor briefly was, she was never Vivien Leigh. Leigh was a face that launched a thousand ships beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 10105/27/2015

r34 is the bipolar Bipolar Troll.

by Anonymousreply 10205/27/2015

Can someone check on Generalissimo Francisco Franco?

by Anonymousreply 10305/27/2015

Vivien is a lot of fun in the somewhat bizarre 1945 British movie, CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA, based on the play by G.B. Shaw. This stage-bound Technicolor extravaganza was the costliest film made up to its time in the UK. Made during the final year of WWII, it was a box office flop.

It's almost surreal to think of these hundreds of people in ancient Roman and Egyptian garb gathering on massive sets to deliver Shavian dialogue even as their nation is battling Hitler.

by Anonymousreply 10405/27/2015

CNN is reporting this? I though Pathé News had the scoop.

by Anonymousreply 105Last Thursday at 8:10 AM

R104, when Churchill's staff recommended they close the museums and other cultural venues to conserve money during the war, he said 'No, that's what we're fighting for.", or something to that effect.

by Anonymousreply 106Last Thursday at 8:13 AM

[quote]Leigh was a face that launched a thousand ships beautiful.

This is what Fellini commented about Capucine.

Helen Gurley Brown stated that Capucine had a faced touched by the Gods.

Taylor and Leigh were lovely but Capucine was extraordinarily so IMO.

by Anonymousreply 107Last Thursday at 11:30 AM

Tell OP that Lincoln has been shot.

by Anonymousreply 108Last Thursday at 11:33 AM

Um, Capucine more beautiful than Vivien or Elizabeth? Bitch please

by Anonymousreply 109Last Thursday at 12:14 PM

Anna Karenina and Myra Lester threw themselves under the bus. {or a train or a car}

by Anonymousreply 110Last Thursday at 12:32 PM

r109 yes 1000 times more beautiful.

Look at Capucine seated at the same table with Liz. Its indisputable.

by Anonymousreply 111Last Thursday at 1:52 PM

r111 is blind

by Anonymousreply 112Last Friday at 8:14 PM

But she also isn't as pretty as Stefanie Powers in those same photos.

by Anonymousreply 113Last Friday at 8:39 PM

Who will pick up her Tony if she wins for "Tovarich" next week?

by Anonymousreply 114Last Friday at 8:46 PM

Leigh should have gotten the big screen version of "Sweet Bird of Youth". As talented as Page was, she could never convince as a movie star on the big screen.

by Anonymousreply 115Last Friday at 8:48 PM

I don't want to alarm anyone but President Abe Lincoln was assassinated. I'm checking CNN to see when they're going to run the story.

by Anonymousreply 116Last Friday at 8:57 PM

I don't really get Capucine. I don't think she has anything on Vivien or Liz in her prime but that's my opinion.

by Anonymousreply 117Last Friday at 8:58 PM

I went straight for her, in more ways than one!!

by Anonymousreply 118Last Friday at 9:01 PM

I'll believe this when I read it on TMZ

by Anonymousreply 119Last Friday at 9:10 PM

What's on her iPod?

by Anonymousreply 120Last Friday at 9:12 PM

Olivia de Havilland has just tweeted her condolences.

Sorry, I am unable to post the link

by Anonymousreply 121Last Friday at 9:20 PM

Poor Olivia !! First her sister Joan and now this.

by Anonymousreply 122Last Friday at 11:58 PM

Oh Mammy, OP HAS lost his mind.

by Anonymousreply 123Last Saturday at 4:40 PM

I knew she was sick...
