I Just Became A Sales Rep for CoeCoe Cosmetics

My territory includes Llantano County and Corinth. Do you think it will take me long to become a Golden Duck seller?

by Anonymousreply 60001/15/2013

Prospect Park is trying again.

by Anonymousreply 112/17/2012

Coe Coe is trashy. I only wear Deception.

by Anonymousreply 212/17/2012

I assumed Lucy folded Deception into CoeCoe. But I haven't watched today's episode yet. Then again, didn't she sell it to Sonny or something? Isn't that how Laura and Carly ended up running it 12 years ago?

by Anonymousreply 312/17/2012

I only use Enchantment cosmetics myself.

by Anonymousreply 412/17/2012

Frankly, Erica, I don't give a damn what you use.

Stick with Mel-A-Dor or Fusion if you really want something trashy.

by Anonymousreply 512/17/2012

I only use Helenesque products.

by Anonymousreply 612/17/2012

You'll never beat Felix with sales. He's Lucy's # 1! :)

by Anonymousreply 712/17/2012

I don't believe in PP for a minutes. Besides, without FV and RC OLTL will suck. Without Todd and a finish to the 2 Todd's OLTL will suck. As for AMC, I lost my taste for it in the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 812/17/2012

Brash and Sassy is my fav.

by Anonymousreply 912/17/2012

They should focus on reviving AMC and continue with the Gh/oltl meld they have going on. Maybe bring oltl characters to AMC as well. They will fail at both. They may be able to do one show well.

by Anonymousreply 1012/17/2012

It seems like Prospect Park is just taking hostages. Next month the rights to the OLTL characters (Blair, Natalie, etcetera) fully revert to ABC which is eager to make more use of the 2 soaps in some fashion. GH has been paying out of pocket to use John, Blair, etc as much as they have up to now. January was when the gates were supposed to open some more.

by Anonymousreply 1112/17/2012

Meredith Vieira is a common HOOKER!

by Anonymousreply 1212/18/2012

Meredith Viera is a common HOOKER who got her start under Renee Devine in Nevada.

Also loved the reference to Fusion Cosmetics being a "two-bit backwater wannabe."

They seem to be making a lot more references to OLTL and AMC places/events lately. Also loved that one of the porn videos offered Dante when he was doing his sperm donation was "Hold the Diploma" from OLTL.

I'm guessing those references are in anticipating of the rights reverting to ABC in January. Hope PP doesn't mess that up.

Wonder how much ABC has been paying PP for the rights to the OLTL characters. Is that income enough to make them want to renew the contract? Surely PP isn't serious about trying this online version on AMC and OLTL again.

by Anonymousreply 1312/18/2012

If Lucy pulls a stake out of her purse the first time she crosses paths with McBain, I will just plotz.

by Anonymousreply 1412/18/2012

Lynn Herring is one of the most fabulous, queeniest and campiest divas in all of daytime.Did I mention that she still looks great. I hope she's hiding Alan Quartermaine somewhere and Stuart Damon comes back in some sort of capacity. Or that Kin Shriner comes out of the woodwork onnce again.

That black nurse is so fabulous and over the top. I love him. He's a cutey and he's so gay he makes Liberace look straight!

Prospect Park bringing back OLTL and AMC. I call BS on that. They already promised us that and didn't deliver.I'm surprised that ABC didn't produce episodes for Soapnet or for the internet as a way to continue the soaps.PP fooled us once they won't be fooling us again.....

by Anonymousreply 1512/18/2012

I wonder if CoeCoe will partner with Kellico. I have some parfume to hock.

by Anonymousreply 1612/18/2012

I am Claudette Louberge

You may sell your cosmetics, but do not come near my, 'ow you say, panty'ose

by Anonymousreply 1712/18/2012

I have a feeling Dr. Obrecht/Frau Farbissina is Dr. Britt's mom. That line to Robin about mother and child was no coincidence.

by Anonymousreply 1812/18/2012

RC has had plans to resurrect Alan on the books for awhile. Hence the flashbacks and discussion of Alan among the Qs this fall. He was supposed to be among the prisoners with Robin and Duke. Stuart Damon's medical issues have either delayed or scuttled those plans.

by Anonymousreply 1912/18/2012

Ford took his infamous Barn Shower this morning on the 8AM OLTL rerun.

Which means we'll get to enjoy his feets soon.

by Anonymousreply 2012/18/2012

Dr Obrecht is another over the top queeny villian. God ,Faison looked smelly and rancid but Dr O is like a bad Bond henchman from hell.Keep Dr O around we need someone so campy around on GH.

by Anonymousreply 2112/18/2012

How cool is this: As part of the deal for getting Meredith Vieira on GH, Fin Hughes, Ian Buchanan, Jason Thompson, and Ron Carlivati are going to appear on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire during the week of the 50th anniversary.

by Anonymousreply 2212/18/2012

I used to wear Claudette Louberge pantyhose

by Anonymousreply 2312/18/2012

Lucy's desk is covered in photos of Kevin Collins.

by Anonymousreply 2412/18/2012

Jerry is back!

by Anonymousreply 2512/18/2012

I haven't laughed at a soap as hard as I laughed at Lucy's meta-comment about Sonny's reputation having "darkened considerably" since she knew him, since at least the Fraternity Row episode of OLTL if not before.

by Anonymousreply 2612/18/2012

Another attempt by PP. Never liked the idea of on line episodes. Plus you have to pay for them.

by Anonymousreply 2712/18/2012

I am Claudette Louberge why not talk about my panty 'ose. You may put zee nail file on them and they do not run. Like your, how you say, Hillary in 2016, no?

by Anonymousreply 2812/18/2012
I assumed Lucy folded Deception into CoeCoe. But I haven't watched today's episode yet. Then again, didn't she sell it to Sonny or something? Isn't that how Laura and Carly ended up running it 12 years ago?

I'm probably missing a step here, but Deception was owned originally by Scott, Dominique, and Julia Barrett. When Dom died, she left her shares to Lucy. I think Julia might have given her portion to Brenda, who was the "Face of Deception" for a bit. Anyway, Scott still owned part of it, which is how Laura ended up there.

by Anonymousreply 2912/18/2012

All I know is their douche line SUCKS!

by Anonymousreply 3012/18/2012

I agree with R11. PP owns most of the rights to the OLTL characters and GH has to pay to use them. Those rights were due to expire fairly soon (I think in January). This all seems like a huge play to maintain those rights, do nothing with them, and force ABC to continue paying for characters like Todd, Tea, McBain, etc.

Also think that R18 is spot on. Dr O is totally Britt's mom!

But who is Sabrina's? Seems like some spoilers are hinting at Anna. GOD NO!!! That girl child is so annoying. I bet they'll do something lame like maker her Alex's daughter (Anna's twin sister), so she'll be tied to the Scorpio-Lavery-Drake stories until the end of time.

by Anonymousreply 3112/18/2012

Where is Sigmund?

by Anonymousreply 3212/18/2012

Sales Rep for CoeCoe Cosmetics = drug dealer

by Anonymousreply 3312/18/2012
Where is Sigmund?

She had a picture of her holding him on her desk.

Plus, the whole comment about Golden Ducks and Quackers was clearly an homage.

I did think it was odd that she'd have pictures of Kevin and the duck, but not her kids.

by Anonymousreply 3412/18/2012

It doesn't go on my face unless it's Countess Wilhemina.

by Anonymousreply 3512/18/2012

Remind me, VOTN. What kids does Lucy have besides Serena? Lucy did raise her with Scott after Dominique died, right?

by Anonymousreply 3612/18/2012

Actually, after Serena was born, some evil dudes were after Scott trying to get to Dom's money, so he left Port Charles and went into hiding. Their return was the main storyline that left off the actual Port Charles series.

Together, she and Scott adopted Julie Devlin and Frank Scanlon's daughter Christina. Julie ended up kidnapping Christina which is how Scott left the spin-off and ended up back on GH proper. A few years later, Julie was dying, and Kevin convinced her to give Christina back to Lucy.

by Anonymousreply 3712/18/2012
I did think it was odd that she'd have pictures of Kevin and the duck, but not her kids.

They might yet bring the kids onto the show. Pictures would make a recast slightly awkward.

Reverse example: OLTL didn't show Tina Lord in the flesh again until RC took over, and he was committed to bringing her back with Andrea Evans in the role. Suddenly Sarah Roberts was looking at pix of Tina as played by Andrea for the first time in almost 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 3812/19/2012

Stefan Cassadine is back in the new year. Stephen Nichols was just let go from Y&R.

by Anonymousreply 3912/19/2012

Robert was injected with the drug that killed Michael Jackson.

by Anonymousreply 4012/19/2012

So what are the spoilers saying about Robert? I get that at least he'll have to be in a coma so as not to spill the beans about Robin, but is he going to die?

by Anonymousreply 4112/19/2012

He's in a coma. That's how Tristan Rogers exits for now.

by Anonymousreply 4212/19/2012

ABC just confirmed Wally Kurth is back taping more as Ned.

by Anonymousreply 4312/19/2012

I'm not surprised with the Nurse's Ball coming up that Wally is back.

by Anonymousreply 4412/19/2012

I saw That R20

Even langston wanted him.

I am finding the OLTL reruns the most entertaining. I originally stopped watching amc right around the time They killed Josh, But I dont regret missing these episodes, such a bore.

seriously pairing up Ryan and Erica? Most of my favorite characters are gone at this point.

( only ones I like are jessie/angie, Taylor and Jake/amanda. Cant stand marissa and scott is meh)

by Anonymousreply 4512/19/2012

Wally Kurth is doing Days and GH? Good for him. The assholes at The Old and The Rested wouldn't let Eileen Davidson out of her contract to be on Days, then she was fired by Sony to be on Days. Like Wally on Days she wasn't doing that much on Y & R.

What about Thaao Penghlis as Victor Cassadine? Since RC is such a GH history buff you'd think he'd bring him back just to fuck with Luke,Scorpio and the rest of them. He's also better looking than that smelly disheveled mess called Faison.

by Anonymousreply 4612/19/2012

I have often wondered why they don't bring Thaao back as Victor Cassadine.

Victor wasn't killed on the island during the Ice Princess saga like Mikos and Tony Cassadine and Alexandra Quartermaine were.

Since Ron is so good about honoring the show's history, maybe he'll bring Victor on.

by Anonymousreply 4712/19/2012

Lucy is no Tina Lord.

by Anonymousreply 4812/19/2012

I know someone who worked with "Tina Lord." This was decades ago. His only memory is that she looked much older than she was. The size of the bags under her eyes were humungous!

by Anonymousreply 4912/19/2012

Thaao is not doing Days so you never know. Yeah,Victor was arrested and that leaves the door open for him to come back.I hope RC realizes that and takes action ASAP.

by Anonymousreply 5012/19/2012
I know someone who worked with "Tina Lord." This was decades ago. His only memory is that she looked much older than she was. The size of the bags under her eyes were humungous!

Andrea Evans or Karen Witter?

by Anonymousreply 5112/19/2012

Andrea- she always had those bags. Remember she was under major stress- that stalker slit his wrists in the studio lobby for Christ sake

by Anonymousreply 5212/19/2012

And baby Sierra Mist Morasco-Fish-Lewis is gestating in Stacy's vodka-soaked womb.

In my alternate reality, Kyle took a job on the staff at GH. He's become really good friends with Elizabeth. Fish works for the PCPD, takes McBain out for beer every now and again so he doesn't get cut off from the world, and secretly admires Anna's shoes. Sierra Rose goes on play dates with Emma Drake.

McBain and Roxie were their best men when they got married.

by Anonymousreply 5312/19/2012

R51, nothing like Kelly Monaco's. She isn't packing for an overnight stay.

by Anonymousreply 5412/19/2012

Kelly's bags are because she's up all night fucking Val Schmerkofsky.

Wouldn't you hit that?

by Anonymousreply 5512/19/2012

Nah, those bags predated Val. He'd be worth it though.

by Anonymousreply 5612/19/2012

If Kelly Monaco is hitting Val she's the luckiest girl in the world.

by Anonymousreply 5712/19/2012

WHEN does Ms. Sleestak arrive? WHEN?

by Anonymousreply 5812/19/2012

R52 Dead on! Andrea had those bags even when she was younger. Karen didn't.

Is Kelly fucking Val? Good for her I think she's fabulous if she needs some that's the guy to go to for some!

Sleestak? When the fuckers at PP drop their plans to do OTOL THEN MS Vicki will show up on GH. However I think Victor Cassadine might show up first....

by Anonymousreply 5912/19/2012

Jon Lindstrom (Kevin Collins) is taping early next year, along with a new contract teen who could be either Morgan Corinthos or Jack Manning.

What's really surprising is who else is taping that day: Erin Hershey Presley, a.k.a. Mrs. Brian "Twitter Scandal 2012" Presley, a.k.a. Alison Barrington from Port Charles.

by Anonymousreply 6012/20/2012

you guys are nuts

by Anonymousreply 6112/20/2012

When Stephen Nichols first appeared on GH as Stefan Cassadine he mentioned to his nephew Nicholas (Laura's son) that Victor had died in prison.

by Anonymousreply 6212/20/2012

Don't any of you know what's going on with this Prospect Park thing? Why make this announcement now? Is it true ABC was interested in doing something with the shows?

by Anonymousreply 6312/20/2012

Nothing on General Hospital can hold a candle to Llanview's grand divas Viki Sleestak, Dorian Lord and Tina Lord.

by Anonymousreply 6412/20/2012

ABC is reportedly very interested in the rights becoming available again, if only for GH to keep utilizing the OLTL vets. Beyond that there have been rumors but nothing explicit about why they had an interest in regaining control of OLTL and AMC. Remounting the shows would likely be impossible, but ABC has definitely reconsidered the value of GH and a beloved daytime drama in the last year. At least until something else as profitable comes along.

Prospect Park is trying to hold onto the rights to OLTL and AMC. Their deal expires next month, and until then ABC must keep paying them for the use of certain OLTL characters, like John, Blair, Tea, and others who have not appeared, likely because of prohibitive costs. (Roger Howarth and Kristen Alderson never signed with PP, so Todd and Starr are free and clear for use on GH). GH has always intended to make more use of the OLTL characters when the rights became free. PP is clearly trying to put on a show of producing a revival just so they can continue to hold and be paid for the rights indefinitely.

by Anonymousreply 6512/20/2012

I still say it was a huge mistake to cancel OLTL and AMC at the same time, all thanks to Brian Frons' ego.

Had they kept OLTL, they could have had a stronger daytime lineup with the GH/OL block and Katie.

by Anonymousreply 6712/20/2012

This makes no sense. They licensed the rights to the characters regardless of who plays them. Actors not signing with PP has nothing to do with it. Are you saying PP would never have been able to use Starr Manning if they couldn't sign Kristen Alderson?

by Anonymousreply 6812/20/2012

Alice vs Lucy today. I assume them mean for Alice to be comedic relief but, boy, is she an AWFUL actress.

Monica's "refreshed" face looks OK.

Felix, Sabrina, and that slut doctor who is after Patrick all have to go. Take Todd as well, he has become a joke.

by Anonymousreply 6912/21/2012
Alice vs Lucy today. I assume them mean for Alice to be comedic relief but, boy, is she an AWFUL actress.

I'm just delighted that CoeCoe had a product called "Slayer."

by Anonymousreply 7012/21/2012

How long has Felix been calling Britt "the Britch?" Because I think he's just being an audience surrogate on that point.

by Anonymousreply 7112/21/2012

r71

Felix called her "Brittch"

He also called her "Doctor Miss Thing."

by Anonymousreply 7212/22/2012

R62 When is someone actually dead on a soap? We've seen dead bodies, new actors coming back to play an old character who was presumed dead THEN the original actor coming back(case in point Duke on GH). Thaao Penghlis would add so much pizazz to GH. He can play a bad guy as well as a good guy. He absolutely ate the scenery when he played the evil Andre Di Mera on Days(or was that Andre being Tony or Tony going evil or God knows what it was).

by Anonymousreply 7312/22/2012

I'm really happy Lucy is going to be involved with the canvas beyond just the Nurses Ball. Seeing her with Monica (who appears to have gotten her plastic surgeon to top off her collagen since Edward's funeral), and anticipating seeing her with Tracy was delightful.

She and Kevin need to have scenes with Mac and Felicia, seeing as how the four of them were best friends.

by Anonymousreply 7412/22/2012

Sean kanan is 46?

wow, its weirding me out that i find a man older than my father attractive, but he looks really really good for his age.

I wouldn't mind seeing thaao on here, what exactly happened to his character on days? I missed a few years.

by Anonymousreply 7512/24/2012

R75 since Thaao started on Days he's come back so many times. I'm surprised that with Eileen Davidson coming back they didn't bring back Thaao to seek revenge against her in some way. That's their loss. The last time he was on was in 2009.

Thaao hasn't been on GH in 31 years. The only two that are still on GH from that time are Luke Spencer and Robert Scorpio. Even so he would camp it up big time as an evil Victor Cassadine.

by Anonymousreply 7612/24/2012

r76 Monica Quartermaine was also on the show in 1981 when the Ice Princess saga happened, even though she wasn't a part of that storyline.

While they are rarely used these days, both Leslie Weber and Bobbie Spencer were also on the show in 1981. Ditto Noah Drake (Rick Springfield).

by Anonymousreply 7712/24/2012

Yep, Monica,Bobbie,Leslie were on during that time BUT not part of the Ice Princess storyline. They have to bring back Alan Q as well.

by Anonymousreply 7812/24/2012

What was so strange about the return of Rick Weber a few years ago, there was no mention of Ginny Weber or the child they had. Even Mike Weber was not mentioned at all.

by Anonymousreply 7912/24/2012

r79 What was so strange about the return of Rick Weber a few years ago was . . . EVERYTHING.

Horrible plotline. Very disrespectful to the legacy of General Hospital. A slap in the face to all the fans who loved the show in the early 1980s.

That was one of Guza's first storylines after returning as headwriter in 2002. In hindsight, it was a pretty clear indication of what was in store for the show for the rest of the decade -- killing off legacy characters, rewriting history to suit plotlines, altering character's personalities and histories to fit the storyline, disrespecting the fans, emphasizing violence, etc.

by Anonymousreply 8012/24/2012

R77, that sounds like RC/FV's GH.

by Anonymousreply 8112/24/2012

Do they still give Sales Reps purple Pintos to drive around in? Tres chic!

by Anonymousreply 8212/25/2012

It is so great to have Lucy back, I'm really impressed by how seamless Lynn Herring has been in her scenes so far, especially when she went from OTT Lucy to sensitive Lucy letting Patrick know she was sorry for his loss. I hope they keep her around beyond the next few months.

by Anonymousreply 8312/25/2012

First we sing, and THEN we eat.

by Anonymousreply 8412/26/2012

Steve Burton is joining JFP at Y&R.

by Anonymousreply 8512/26/2012

Steve Burton is going to Y&R.

Rumored to be playing the ex-boyfriend of Avery Clark, the lawyer who's fucking Nicholas. Avery is also the sister of Phyllis.

by Anonymousreply 8612/26/2012

Lucy was great at the Q's today. Alice's xmas sweater was hilarious as was Lucy's Santa's naughty helper's outfit. Her body is STILL slamming.

I could not believe how awkward Starr/Michael's love scene was after he told her that he had been raped. It was so weirdly creepy. Maybe they should have waited until tomorrow for sex.

So happy that Steve Burton is contracted elsewhere. My wish is that Laura Wright follow as she's another FOJ's. Would love for Sarah Brown to come back as Carly. Now she and Roger H. or Brandon B. would be hot in a love scene. Plus, SJB is the one who really captured who Carly really was.

by Anonymousreply 8712/26/2012

Kin Sriner to return as Scotty Baldwin.

Can GF be far behind?

by Anonymousreply 8812/27/2012
without FV and RC OLTL will suck.

Is Gary Tomlin really out at DAYS? Because if they could get Tomlin back to helm OLTL I could really get behind that.

by Anonymousreply 8912/27/2012

Tomlin at DOOL has been a huge snore. Was there anyone who worked at OLTL who could be promoted from within?

I would love for them to approach Michael Malone to write.

by Anonymousreply 9012/27/2012

Tomlin has made Days too homey and the villians have even become weak. Kristen should be a bitch on wheels yet she's become so soft. Even Stefano has become a Teddy Bear.Bring Thaoo Penghlis back as the evil Andrea....

Failing that Victor Cassadine's time has come. If Shriner and Lindstrom are coming back, they might as well bring back Penghlis as Victor. He makes a great over the top villian. Then again Faison was kinda/sorta wasted in his stint.

I love Sarah Brown as well. She's really good at almost any role she does but she owns Carly doesn't she? I like what Sharon Case did with the role but Sarah has just the right bit of sexiness for that role. Sonny never had better chemistry then with anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 9112/27/2012

I'm loathe to say this, but Ellie really needs to consider Botox in her forehead. The furrowed brow does not do her any favors.

by Anonymousreply 9212/27/2012

r91 uhmmmm, Sharon Case never played Carly. For the last 18 years, she's played Sharon on Y&R. Before that, she played Monica's long lost daughter Dawn on GH for a year.

Agreed, Sarah Brown had great chemistry with Maurice Bernard when she played Carly.

Sarah had practically zero chemistry with Maurice when she played Claudia. Only people Sarah had chemistry with while playing Claudia were Brandon Barash (Johnny) and Bruce Weitz (Anthony).

by Anonymousreply 9312/27/2012

R93 Right. I meant Tamara Braun. They wanted to bring her back to GH as another character as well. Sarah is no longer on Days I hope she gets a job because she is one talented hottie.

by Anonymousreply 9412/27/2012

r94 Sarah is quite talented and excels when she is in the right role.

Carly on GH was the right role.

Julia Larabee on ATWT was the right role.

Claudia on GH was the WRONG role. Character was too hard and cold for the audience ever to warm up to; no chemistry with other characters.

Aggie on B&B was the WRONG role. Poorly defined character that was not written to her talents, but then B&B routinely casts big names and doesn't use them well.

Madison on DAYS was the WRONG role. Character was too hard, only softened up when paired with Brady, but then was saddled with that awful controlling ex-husband storyline.

Sarah's characters work when they start off as vulnerable and needy, thereby allowing the audience to feel sympathy for her. Then once the audience likes her, her manipulative ways can come out.

Characters starting off from any position other than vulnerable and needy have been a total failure for Sarah.

by Anonymousreply 9512/27/2012

Chad Duell's feets!!

by Anonymousreply 9612/27/2012

Shush, VOTN! Ellie is adorable.

by Anonymousreply 9712/27/2012

No, I like her, but when she kept raising her eyebrows this afternoon, she looked like a freshly-plowed field.

by Anonymousreply 9812/27/2012

I'm really pissed that Robert seems to be gone from the show. I thought TR was great this time around.

Wonder if MB's insecure, threatened reaction to TR on the show last time has risen once again.

by Anonymousreply 9912/27/2012

Tristan Roger's salary had to go to pay Lynn Herring I guess. Robert will stay in a coma until the plot needs him again.

by Anonymousreply 10012/27/2012

Lindsay Hartley signs with All My Internet Children (again)! Jennifer Pepperman has been named executive producer of OLTL.

by Anonymousreply 10112/27/2012

Any word about La Sleestack?

by Anonymousreply 10212/28/2012

Holy crap. I didn't think this was actually for real. They hired an EP?

For me to watch a OLTL reboot, I need my core familiar characters like Viki,Dorian,Clint,Bo,Nora.

by Anonymousreply 10312/28/2012

Ellie/Spinelli is much more tolerable than Maxie/Spinelli ever was.

But Spinelli is still such a dud character. Ellie and Maxie should just hook up.

by Anonymousreply 10412/28/2012

Well, if those rumors about Kirsten Storms and Farrah Fath are true, Maxie would be into it.

by Anonymousreply 10512/28/2012

Has anyone confirmed if former twink Seponski and current trout Fath broke up?

by Anonymousreply 10612/28/2012

Rumor mill is Kirsten Storms and Brandon Barrash. Seen together in recent weeks, all lovey dovey.

by Anonymousreply 10712/28/2012

He could do a lot better. She's a nasty bitch with booze, drug and eating disorder issues.

by Anonymousreply 10812/28/2012

She had 3 surgeries for endometriosis. And, by the way, cast and crew love her.

by Anonymousreply 10912/28/2012

BB and KS are an item?

They both look like shit.

by Anonymousreply 11012/28/2012

Vincent Irizarry

Happy to share that I just signed on with Prospect Park for the “All My Children” reboot! Excited to bring dastardly Dr. David back to life, as he did for so many others, and to see my dear friends in Pine Valley once again. A great, big thank you to all the fans for your tenacity in keeping the hope alive. You’re awesome!!! Let’s all keep our fingers crossed together that it becomes a reality.

by Anonymousreply 11112/28/2012

You can just look at Brandon Barash and tell he won't age well. He'll look like shit in ten years.

by Anonymousreply 11212/29/2012
Let’s all keep our fingers crossed together that it becomes a reality.

It sounds like VI isn't absolutely sure this is going to happen either LOL.

by Anonymousreply 11312/29/2012

With the OLTL/GH hybrid going like gangbusters, why would they even bother with a watered-down online version of the old show?

by Anonymousreply 11412/29/2012

There won't be an All My Children reboot without Lucci.

And she's doing Marc Cherry's new series Devious Maids for Lifetime starting in March 2013.

So how can she find the time to go back to Pine Valley? She can't.

Meanwhile, Sleestack has no other commitments, so Llanview might happen...

by Anonymousreply 11512/29/2012

r112, ou have some bizarre personal hatred for this guy don't you?

And, btw, he has that kind of baby fat that will preserve him into old age. His face won't wrinkle and fall like most do after a certain age.

by Anonymousreply 11612/29/2012

I think Devious Maids is only 13 episodes though. And production is already underway in Atlanta. I think Lucci could do both.

by Anonymousreply 11712/29/2012

It's in their best interest to get Susan Lucci. It would give the entire venture a lot more credibility. They'll work with her. And she did AMC and Dallas the same year, though not simultaneously.

by Anonymousreply 11812/29/2012

Could she do it R117? Probably. Would she do it? Why would she? What's PP done for her or any of the AMC or OLTL cast members except kept them hanging on the line for a year?

Most of the older "lifer" vets can well afford to retire. The only reason to sign on with PP for what I'm sure would have to be a fraction of what they made in their glory days would be out of loyalty to the shows.

A few of the bigger names might lend their names to help launch the project but I don't see that lasting or soap viewers getting the sort of product they've come to expect. Especially if they have to pay to watch it.

by Anonymousreply 11912/29/2012

r99 As has been mentioned here already, Robert Scorpio was a last minute replacement in the storyline for Luke when Tony Geary had to take extra time off for whatever reason.

Given that Tony always takes 4-6 weeks off at Christmas, I'd say the original storyline had Luke in the coma after being injected with Propofal to accommodate his annual vacation time. Since they substituted Robert in the storyline, he's the one in the coma.

Likely they'll have Robert wake up in late January to tell everyone Robin is alive. People will think he's delusional, but she'll probably show up just in time for the nurse's ball.

Any word on when Luke returns to the show?

Also Anna and Duke haven't been seen or mentioned since Robert went into the coma. What's up with that?

by Anonymousreply 12012/29/2012

R120 Marco, that's why this show stinks to high heaven. They reunite Duke and Anna, two star crossed lovers after nearly a quarter of a century and we get Spinelli and the turkey baster storyline! Don't get me wrong Lynn Herring is fabulous BUT where are the villains? Heather and Faison were fun bring back Victor Cassadine and have him cause a shitstorm up in Port Charles.Have him return with a bang with Alan Quartermaine in tow or something crazy like that.Stop fixating on Todd The Rapist Manning and the Howard girl.

by Anonymousreply 12112/29/2012
Has anyone confirmed if former twink Seponski and current trout Fath broke up?

You mean, have they stopped bearding for each other?

by Anonymousreply 12212/29/2012

Lucci could do both shows. Devious Maids is a cable show which means no more then 13-15 shows a year and thats IF its a hit. Lucci still resides on the east coast which is where I suspect she spends most of her time. But as another poster pointed out why would she? You could argue that she's never been hotter than she is right now. AMC's cancellation actually boosted her career and made her higher profile than she's been in years. So I could see her doing it but also not doing it. Slezak on the other hand will sign in a heartbeat.

by Anonymousreply 12312/29/2012

R120

Tony had to take time off to have unexpected back surgery. Tristan was contacted to take his place in the storyline.

Tony is back at work as of 2 weeks ago.

by Anonymousreply 12412/29/2012

r121, as stated before, it was RC's intention to bring Alan Q back from the dead for months, but Stuart Damon's health issues are preventing him from making even a part-time committment. The story has been rewritten - Anna discovered only Duke in that hospital, whereas she was supposed to find Alan Q as well. Years and years ago when Anna was head heroine of the show in the late 80s, she discovered Edward Q alive and well on a Caribbean island living as a beach bum after a couple of years of the Qs thinking he was dead after a plane crash in the Bermuda Triangle. History was supposed to be honored by Anna discovering Alan alive as well.

by Anonymousreply 12512/29/2012

r122, they stayed together for the Dirty Soap reality debacle. After it cluncked off the radar with all of its scripted lies, I am sure they saw no reason to stay together.

by Anonymousreply 12612/29/2012

r124 Thanks for the info about Tony Geary. Sorry he's having back problems. But glad to hear he's back at work.

How far ahead are they shooting at GH these days?

Does Frank have them on a three weeks on, one week off schedule like he did at OLTL?

by Anonymousreply 12712/29/2012

It seems like all the remaining soaps are on the 3 weeks on/one week off deal doesn't it? The CBS soaps do the four day a week deal as of now but according to Eileen Davidson they might going to 3 on,1 off as well.I know at one point GH was shooting the 4 day on one day off schedule.

I think GH is filmed a month to six weeks in advance. Days is shot literally 4 months before airdate!

by Anonymousreply 12812/30/2012

So are Trey and mob princess (sorry.. don't remember her name) on the way out the door, or is it a plot device to bring back Kate?

by Anonymousreply 12912/30/2012

So that Howard girl was a dancer on Broadway. Was in Contact (girl in yellow dress replacement) and took over for Sutton Foster in Young Frankenstein. Anyone see her?

by Anonymousreply 13012/30/2012

She (Kelly Sullivan) was apparently a hit in Young Frankenstein, doing comedy. She's a talented lady but very NY theater which is probably why RC and FV are rumored to have fallen in love with her work on GH. They employed endless NY theater people on OLTL, as was the purview of all of the New York soaps.

by Anonymousreply 13112/30/2012

Trey is toast. Next week

by Anonymousreply 13212/30/2012

Are they killing him? So unnecessary.

by Anonymousreply 13312/30/2012

R128

GH is only 3 weeks ahead.

by Anonymousreply 13412/30/2012

R131 Kelly Sullivan is really fabulous at what she does. She's a gorgeous woman with great comic timing. Unlike someone like Ms Brenda Dickson, you are laughing with her as opposed to laughing at her! I hope she gets out of the soap opera ghetto and does comedy. Hopefully an intelligent comedy like Arrested Development.

by Anonymousreply 13512/30/2012

I am delighted that Burton is goin to Y&R since I do not watch it. Eric Braeden is already upset about it.

by Anonymousreply 13612/30/2012

Where is Heather?

by Anonymousreply 13712/30/2012

Is Eric Braeden really upset about it? It would not surprise me. Not too much room for too gigantic egos on that show.

by Anonymousreply 13812/30/2012

Oh, please. Why would Eric Braeden give a shit when a few days ago he didn't know who Burton was? Faux online drama.

by Anonymousreply 13912/30/2012

Braeden is angry about what? Slaving on a soap when he was in the biggest film of all time(Titanic at one time)? Unlike all these annoying newbies he has appeared on prime time and in movies. He was in the cult film Forbin that influenced The Terminator film and lead him to star in Cameron's Titanic.Fair enough, Eric should be happy that he has a job these days.Half of the legacy characters on that soap are treated like cattle. Look what happened to Eileen Davidson? Days wanted her and parent company Sony (who owns, Days, Y & R and Bold and The Beautiful)had her fired. Why? Because TPTB wanted her to do a few walk ons here and there and not utilize her properly. On, she's really got a meatier role to play and appears pretty regularly so far.

by Anonymousreply 14012/30/2012

R140 is socially awkward and verging on a substance-abuse problem.

by Anonymousreply 14112/30/2012

R141 Would know because he is socially inept, lives in mom's basement and is addicted to vicodin! And is even rejected at glory holes for being hung like a pimple.

by Anonymousreply 14212/31/2012

R139, do you really believe EB does not know who SB is? His pretending not to know who he is is why I believe he is upset.

by Anonymousreply 14312/31/2012

.

by Anonymousreply 14401/01/2013

Dame Jill keeps her reputation alive!

Waiting for Kale Browne, Robin Christopher, John Bolger in 3, 2, 1.....

by Anonymousreply 14501/02/2013

Kale Brown wasn't his claim to fame being Karen Allen's sperm donor? WHET KB? Phelpsy was done with him and he was cats to the wind.

I like the original Australian Skye. RC is a decent soap actress but she's spent as Skye. Have her on Old and The Rested. He can play Victor's new girl toy. Even worse a secret abbot love child we didn't know about.

John Bolger? You must mean Ray Bolger from The Wizard Of Oz. He's a star of the silver screen, darling he doesn't do the small screen!

by Anonymousreply 14601/02/2013

Rumor has it it's not just Kevin Collins that figures into Jon Lindstrom's impending appearance on GH, but also Ryan Chamberlain.

by Anonymousreply 14701/02/2013

So what is the latest on PP?

by Anonymousreply 14801/03/2013

Not much else on PP right now. Now that the holidays are over we should start getting more news about actors signing and dare I

by Anonymousreply 14901/03/2013

r147, and of course, that hack Carlivati continues his monotonous "psycho of the month" crap. There is not a creative bone in his body.

by Anonymousreply 15001/04/2013

I hope Lucy gives Sabrina a make over before the nurse's ball and cuts that damn hair.. I really hope that is either a wig or extensions.

by Anonymousreply 15101/04/2013

Carvilati is being hailed in the soap press as some kind of Shakespeare of daytime. I have never seen such a juvenile soap since Passions. Yeah, it was great for a few months finally getting rid of Stoneface Jason and seeing some old characters come back. But except for Anna Devane, we have not really seen that much of them. Instead Carvilati is shoving his newbies down our throats and they are the most one-dimensional, annoying characters on the planet. How did he get his reputation? I never watched OLTL after the Buchanan invasion of the 80s, so this is the first I have seen him. Between him and Guza this show has been run right into the ground.

by Anonymousreply 15201/04/2013

Thank you, R152. GH is unwatchable since Carlivati became headwriter. He relies on an endless supply of gimmicks, a constant stream of crazy villains, veterans brought back to be given new histories and character rewrites and never-ending silly stories (Kate/Connie comic relief DID and Ugly Betty about to be transformed into a swan by removing the prosthesis behind her upper lip, taking off the wig and glasses and getting a makeover). It's seat of your pants writing that would fit better into a serial rather than a soap format.

If this is good soap writing, I can't imagine what the soap press considers bad writing.

I think the soap press have their lips firmly attached to his ass because they all know their jobs are coming to an end. DOOL, B&B and Y&R don't play their games but GH does.

by Anonymousreply 15301/04/2013

r147, r152 r153

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Ron C's writing may not be everyone's cup of tea.

I haven't enjoyed GH as much since the late 90s. Sure, Ron's writing can be campy, but the show is a lot more fun and balanced than it was under Guza.

Complain all you want, but remember, if it weren't for Ron and Frank taking over, the show would now be roadkill.

JFP and Guza (and later his protege Garin Wolf) were driving the show straight over the cancellation cliff. If they had continued with their strum and drum mobster-centric, audience eroding ways, the show would have been canceled in September.

So, everytime you complain, remember that there is still a show to complain about. That luxury of your being able to complain is courtesy of Ron and Frank.

by Anonymousreply 15401/04/2013
Complain all you want, but remember, if it weren't for Ron and Frank taking over, the show would now be roadkill.

I would prefer roadkill to road apples (otherwise known as horseshit).

If it hadn't been Frank and Ron, it might have been someone with talent.

by Anonymousreply 15501/04/2013
GH is unwatchable since Carlivati became headwriter.

GH was unwatchable long before he came along

by Anonymousreply 15601/04/2013

Agreed, R156, but he's made a bad show worse.

by Anonymousreply 15701/04/2013

I heard Shriner and Francis are set to return in the Spring.

by Anonymousreply 15801/05/2013

I guess I'm the only one enjoying the show, then.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I thought Kristen Alderson killed it in her scenes with Brandon Barash.

Hell, I'm even bummed that Carly's about to get her heart broken again, and I thought I'd never feel anything towards her except a deep, burning antagonism.

by Anonymousreply 15901/05/2013

Lucy attacks McBain next week, apparently believing him to be Caleb the vampire.

I love the show.

by Anonymousreply 16001/05/2013

If they do bring Ryan Chamberlaine back, I hope it's just as a hallucination or a dream or something.

He had one of the most haunting deaths I've ever seen on a soap, and it would be a real shame to undo that.

by Anonymousreply 16101/05/2013

Voice, you know this better than anyone else that no one truly dies in comics and/or in soaps! They'll retcon a character a gazillion ways so they can bring him back!

They need to bring in an evil nut job like Victor Cassadine or Grant Putnam to stir some shit up.The turkey baster storyline is a big yawn and all these twinks annoy me to no end. I like the OLTL characters BUT could Todd stop being comic relief please!

by Anonymousreply 16201/05/2013
Voice, you know this better than anyone else that no one truly dies in comics and/or in soaps! They'll retcon a character a gazillion ways so they can bring him back!

No, it was just too good. Kevin, Lucy, Mac, and Felicia watched him burn to death, and then we see him being escorted to Hell by his and Kevin's evil mother.

Just my opinion, but good villains need to stay dead. When you get into DiMera territory, it just gets ridiculous.

Besides, if they really need a villain, they've got Jerry, Helena, Faison, and Dr. Obrect.

by Anonymousreply 16301/05/2013

I'm liking the show too and this is from someone who was a hardcore OLTL fan and never watched GH except when Elizabeth Taylor was on. Took me months to figure out what was going on and all the character dynamics. But happy to say that I am once again, hooked on a soap.

by Anonymousreply 16401/05/2013
never watched GH except when Elizabeth Taylor was on

MARY!

by Anonymousreply 16501/05/2013

R145 That was the first thing I said when they announced Stephen Nichols had been fired as Tucker on Y&R: "And the announcement of Kale Browne as Tucker comes in 5...4....3......"
Sarah is quite talented and excels when she is in the right role. Sorry, but Carly is the only role she's ever really been good in. Her talents are overstated.

by Anonymousreply 16601/05/2013

Several blogs/online soap sites are suggesting that Jack Wagner will be back as Frisco, but a few of them said "The news is not as good for another performer fans would love to see return for the 50th Anniversary."

Translation: Genie Francis won't be back, because Miss Tony Geary will throw a big hissy fit. Their bad blood + Miss Geary's reluctance to surrender the spotlight = no go for that Laura ho.

by Anonymousreply 16701/05/2013

I think it is okay but just sort of better than Guza since we do see more people and Sonny and his mob have been given a backseat, thank goodness. However, I would not say RC, for all the weaknesses his writing has, IMO, rewrites history. In fact there has been more actual history spoken about since he took over. It was Guza who rewrote Luke and Laura's history to be Luke forced into a life of misery via marriage to Laura and the ridiculous Ethan being Luke's son rewrite. Anyway, regardless the show will probably be exiting in April after the 50th anniversary. Maybe it will join the others on PP.

by Anonymousreply 16801/05/2013

Voice, Di Mera territory? Isn't that what almost every soap has done? Look if it meant bringing back Thaao Penghlis or Joe Mascolo back well then it was worth it. Those two excel/revel in their wickedness.

Faison? They underused him.Good actor, looks like a homeless dude now! Obrecht? I love her but where is Duke and Anna? Still Thaao would bring a ton of evil back. He connected to Luke and Scorpio and would rock Port Charles.

R166 Will GH be done? I don't know about that. Katie and the Chew might bite it beforehand. And PP has done what exactly as of yet? Diddly squat!

by Anonymousreply 16901/05/2013
Voice, Di Mera territory? Isn't that what almost every soap has done?

I just think sometimes dead should mean dead. I'm less bothered by AJ's return, partly because Sean Kanan has been killing it, and partly because of how the character was shat on. With Ryan, his story was finished.

by Anonymousreply 17001/05/2013

I could care less about whether or not Genie Francis comes back or not. Several other returns bring so much more to the canvas.

by Anonymousreply 17101/05/2013
Anyway, regardless the show will probably be exiting in April after the 50th anniversary. Maybe it will join the others on PP.

I dunno. A year ago I would have agreed, but ratings are up and so is the general acclaim for storylines.

I think it will be interesting to see what happens with AMC and OLTL. I think the concepts for the reboots (30 minutes, 4x a week with a recap show) could show the networks a much more cost efficient way to do business...and we could actually see the shows back on TV at some point.

by Anonymousreply 17201/05/2013

VOTN you are not alone I have been loving the show these last few months! I was always a fan of RC's camptastic writing although I realize its not everyone's cup of tea.

So what do we make of Agnes Nixon's statement to the press yesterday? Will Prospect Park every make an official statement??

by Anonymousreply 17301/05/2013

I just hope that between Felix, Liz, Epiphany, and maybe Lucy, they can finally get Britt back for all the horrid stuff she's done to Sabrina.

I wish they hadn't gone for the immediate bonking, but I thought Kristen Storms did really well.

And I do like Ellie, and it made me sad knowing that she could be there dying all alone and no one knew she was there.

I shouldn't be criticizing this show for the licenses they take with actual medicine, but there's no way a student nurse should have been the one doing triage.

by Anonymousreply 17401/05/2013

I demand to know -

WHERE IS LA SLEESTAK???

by Anonymousreply 17501/05/2013

These 3-4 week front burner story arcs are awesome when they display your faves, and downright torture when they don't. I haven't been watching as closely as usual, because I hate the Connie/Kate story and I hate Starr/Michael. HATE. Actually, it's just Starr that I hate. Even when she was a child on OLTL I couldn't stand her. I feel like Ron and Frank are hoping that by keeping her in the role, she'll turn out to be another Kimberly McCullough. But I just don't see that happening.

However, I have enjoyed Michael's scenes with AJ, so I'm hoping we can get back to some ELQ intrigue really soon. Especially now that Lucy is back!

And on another note, are we going to find out what happened in Switzerland any time soon!? It seems ridiculous to me that they finally reunited Anna and Duke, and yet we hardly got to see them afterwards. We still don't know about Robert's condition, and WTF is going on with Jerry and Robin?

by Anonymousreply 17601/05/2013

I agree that the Robert/AnnaDuke/Faison/Robin story was the best story on daytime in a long time. Every actor in it knocked it out of the ballpark.

Robert will be in a coma - for god knows how long. We will see Anna, Duke and Luke next week.

Supposedly Faison is not done with Anna and there will be more story. But my guess is that is all about a big April 50th Anniversary story.

Giant stall until then for my favs.

by Anonymousreply 17701/05/2013

In the heyday after Liz Taylor guested on GH, those years with Robert, Luke, Anna, Holly (!), and even John Stamos as Blackie and Demi Moore and Jackie were some good afterschool TV. My personal favorite character was Miss Tiffany Hill. I could take or leave most of your Quartermaines, but the old lady was a hoot. Never cared much for Laura or the Webbers.

I've watched some GH lately after hearing Scorpio and Anna were back. I hope it survives and they continue bringing some old favorites back from time to time.

by Anonymousreply 17801/05/2013

Well if Genie is not coming back, I'm available. They did it 30 years ago, why not try it again?

by Anonymousreply 17901/05/2013

Anders Hove is not done. He'll be back as Faison soon. Rumor has it Britt is his evil daughter with Obrecht. I have heard both Genie and Jack Wagner will be announced shortly.

The show isn't supposed to hit another decision point on renewal until February or March. Given that timeframe it would most likely remain on air until Sept at the earliest. I'm beginning to think they will renew. RC and FV have pulled it out of the gutter, even mainstream press are talking about it. The only way to cancel GH is if they have a viable and profitable alternative, and so far they don't, nor one I know of in the pipeline.

PP is now suggesting doing 30-minute eps and rotating short term arcs for OLTL and AMC. Whatever.

by Anonymousreply 18001/05/2013

As for a viable entity that can replace it...where is that? Katie is bombing and The Chew doesn't look long for the world and maybe Mario will eat the show all by his lonesome!

Faison,Obrecht,Victor Cassadine, Grant Putnam all need to come back. GH needs all the villains it can get.I'm sick of all the goody goodies on the show,it's making me sick.

Can RC and FV also bring Anna and Duke ASAP?They dropped off the universe so that I can watch Spinelli, Todd and company debase the show...boring.

by Anonymousreply 18101/05/2013

Anna and Duke are back this week, along with Luke's return to the story.

Scorpio is still in a coma until about February.

by Anonymousreply 18201/06/2013

I assume Anna's daughter will suddenly reappear during the nurses ball. Right?

by Anonymousreply 18301/06/2013

Really, they need to bring back Nurse Jessie. That bitch served up some cunty realness!

by Anonymousreply 18401/06/2013

Neat trick, since she's been dead for about 22 years.

by Anonymousreply 18501/06/2013

I know, Voice. It was sarcasm.

by Anonymousreply 18601/06/2013

Voice, they can do a recast! Remember that the head of the Quartermaine clan was not the first actor to play that role. I know that you're of the mind taht if they are dead etc so on....Well on soaps they will recast a million times if they feel like it. Though in the case of Mr Q, that was that BUT the original actor who played him owned that role.

by Anonymousreply 18701/06/2013

I know. So was my response.

by Anonymousreply 18801/06/2013

And while we're at it, WHET that cute Asian couple that appeared for about half a year in the mid or late 1980s, when Port Charles had an "Asian Quarter" and there was a hangout called The Teahouse of Many Moons? There were also creepy "catacombs" under the city at that time.

This was in the Felicia/Jimmie Lee era, I think.

We used to refer to characters who show up for a time and then are dumped without a trace as the "henceforce unmentioned."

by Anonymousreply 18901/06/2013

Thanks for remembering me, R189!

by Anonymousreply 19001/06/2013

Have they ever stuck with an asian storyline? I know that Jason and Sam got married in an asian restaurant, and they would trot out those characters from time to time recently, but that's it. In terms of regulars though, I can't remember any on GH.

by Anonymousreply 19101/06/2013

They should recast ruby

by Anonymousreply 19201/06/2013

They could have Sleestak do her "Blondie" from the Buenos Dias.

by Anonymousreply 19301/06/2013

Peapack Park still has a hold on Sleestack.

by Anonymousreply 19401/06/2013

The episode of Castle with Jack Wagner and Nancy Lee Grahn airs this evening.

Knowing I'm a big fan of hers but have never seen an episode of the show, will I be totally lost trying to watch it?

by Anonymousreply 19501/07/2013

It's a procedural VOTN so it should be easy to follow. There is a lot of back story between the two leads but you should be able to get through the hour.

by Anonymousreply 19601/07/2013

More news today

by Anonymousreply 19701/07/2013

You know, if I thought Laura Wright had the acting chops to pull it off, I wish they'd consider having Carly go through a period of self-examination about why she chooses such horrible men and come out of it a better person. They did that with Lucy about fifteen years ago, and she was a better character for it. I'm sure Sarah Brown could pull that off, but Wright...not so much.

And I'm just going to say it: Kelly Sullivan was really, REALLY good.

by Anonymousreply 19801/07/2013

Voice, I agree that she was good today, but I just find the character(s) she plays to be so damn useless that she could be La Sleestak and I still wouldn't care.

by Anonymousreply 19901/07/2013

See, the thing is, I think if Connie/Kate was paired with ANYBODY but Sonny, she'd be a much better received character. If, say, Kate had been with Dante (ignoring the fact that I like Dante and Lulu, I just need a character that's generally a good guy), and it had been Dante getting his heart ripped out by Connie's deception, and then paired with the scene of him comforting her as Trey was dying, I can imagine that being really powerful.

But no, it's fucking Sonny.

There's a scene from OLTL that I've always remembered from the climax of Viki's mid-90s DID story. After months of running around as the other alters, Viki finally comes back out and is terrified and confused, and Clint is there just gently talking to her and encouraging her to fight. At one point, her vision starts to go blurry and Clint tells her that's Jean (who wore glasses) trying to take control again, but that she can fight it. It was incredible work from both Clint Ritchie and Erika Slezak, and while Kelly Sullivan isn't La Sleestack, I could see the stuff we got today being pretty moving if it wasn't Sonny's shoulder Connie is crying on.

by Anonymousreply 20001/07/2013

I like Kelly Sullivan as Connie. Don't care for her much as Kate.

As Connie, she's got the Bensonhurst girl down. A tough as nails, scratch your eyes out if you cross her girl completely.

As Kate, she doesn't come across convincingly as a fashion magazine editor. Doesn't have Anna Wintour style hair, doesn't have a haughty style, doesn't even dress in the latest styles.

Perhaps I would like Kelly more as Kate if Megan Ward hadn't first played the part. Megan had the fashion editor aspect of the Kate character down well.

I agree with Voice that I would care about the Kate/Connie character more if she was paired with someone other than Sonny.

I've liked her scenes with Todd and with Johnny. Has much more chemistry with them.

by Anonymousreply 20101/07/2013

You have a point, Voice. Possibly I'm suffering from Sonny fatigue. There isn't a woman on canvas I could happily watch him paired with at this point. It doesn't help that Kelly Sullivan is completely age inappropriate to have grown up with Sonny in Bensonhurst.

I am happy that Ron and Frank have minimized Sonny's airtime, but I still feel like every minute he's onscreen is equal to a thousand horrible soap deaths.

Speaking of characters I can't stand: Spinelli. I've loathed him from the minute he came on canvas. Sure, there's a place and time for wacky soap characters, but as a leading man!? Uggh.

I actually feel that his his scenes with Ellie have lessened Bradford Anderson's mannered acting, but now I'm just at the point where I want Faison to return and dump him (along with Sonny) into the harbor so that the women of Port Charles won't be forced to pretend they find him attractive anymore.

Does anyone know what the deal with Sabrina is? She's a horrible, twee character, and I've heardrumours that they want to make her Anna and Duke's retconned daughter. Please, please say it isn't so.

by Anonymousreply 20201/07/2013

I like Kelly Sullivan. The character is a joke, though.

The original Kate, played by Megan Ward, was actually a very well-done riff on Meryl in The Devil Wears Prada. It was the only pairing fans had ever liked Sonny in in years and it actually made Maurice Benard tolerable again. It was a real fleshed-out character, and Ward was very capable of playing both haughty Kate and the tough, earthy Connie side of her character (pre-DID). After Kate left Sonny she got into a thing with sleazy bartender Coleman, and was clearly living it up. The point is, MW was able to balance both sides of that character.

Kelly Sullivan is a talented stage actress but was always way too young for this part. Her Kate is unrecognizable as Kate, might as well be nobody. As Connie she can be fun but the character is a complete caricature. There's no foundation there. It's a waste of KS's talent and a waste of the audience's time.

And the thing is, for all his past sins MB does try with her. He's been a real team player since Cartini took over, unlike Steve Burton. He accepted his lesser role and has commented on how he likes that the show is more balanced and less skewed around Sonny. He's a calmer person IRL. But this thing has no real exit.

At least Lucy is going to try and stake McBain in a day or two, I hear. Convinced he is Caleb!

TV Guide:

They're back in town and ready to kill. Or are they?

Years before bloodsuckers were all the rage via True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and Twilight, they were raising holy hell on Port Charles. The 1997-2003 GH spin off featured Michael Easton as vampire stud Caleb Morley, Kelly Monaco as his luscious lover Livvie and GH crossover fave Lynn Herring as vampire slayer Lucy Coe. Now that Herring is back on GH as Lucy and Easton and Monaco are on the soap in different roles, it is time for some wicked fun!!

On January 14 Lucy will drop by Kelly's Diner for some chow and spot John McBain, the good guy cop played by ME "She completely freaks and screams "Caleb" says head writer RC. "Later Kelly's character Sam comes out of the ladies room and Lucy thinks it is Livvie. Lucy then goes into full slayer mode and stabs John. He's rushed to the hospital and she ends up in the slammer.

Our universes are colliding, but this is no quick gimmick, RC promises. This will kick off a nice little mystery story: Is Lucy crazy or is there something very real going on here? And if she is crazy why do John and Sam feel like they've met before? The plot gets even dizzier when Duke Lavery played by IB, who also played vampire king Joshua Temple on PC vistis Lucy in jail.

PC was so ahead of its time and this is a nice nod to the fans who supported all those wild chances we took, Herring says. I love that we're till taking chances and not sidestepping the past. If Lucy met up with John and didn't recognize him we'd be flooded with complaints."

by Anonymousreply 20501/08/2013

I knew it!

The kid who appears with Erin Hershey Presley (Alison) on GH IS Caleb and Alison's son!!

by Anonymousreply 20601/08/2013

Carlivati will out-hack even himself with this.

by Anonymousreply 20701/08/2013

Speaking of age appropriate, am I the only one who gets the impression that Kristina is actually older than Michael? It may just be that Michael reads younger to me because he's paired with Starr, but as they've increased Kristina's screentime as they were preparing to kill Trey off, it's been bothering me more and more.

I really hope they're not also forcing Lisa Lo Cicero out with Scott Reeves. I like her too much.

by Anonymousreply 20801/08/2013

Yeah to me the actress playing Kristina looks too old for the role. Michael is supposed to be several years older than her. I think Lisa LoCicero is staying put TPTB really like her. Is Erin Hershey Presley really making a cameo or is that somebody's wild imagination?

by Anonymousreply 20901/08/2013

I'd like to see Robert and Olivia to be given a chance. (Since Anna and Duke are the chosen couple.)

by Anonymousreply 21001/08/2013

No, I think I'd like Robert and Olivia together too.

Yesterday I praised Kelly Sullivan, and today I'm going to praise Laura Wright. I had no idea Carly was still capable of that kind of self-reflection.

by Anonymousreply 21101/08/2013

I wonder if GH is covering it's ass making John Caleb because PP has the rights to John. There's not much GH can do about RH's Todd or KA's star because they weren't GH characters before but ME was. Either way I don't mind it for a while but I don't want a SciFi soap. It's why I didn't like PC. I did however adore Dark Shadows, maybe because I was a kid and also being SciFi was it's original intent. GH I want to be as realistic as possible these days.

by Anonymousreply 21201/08/2013

Genie Francis is back! First airdate February 11th.

The PC arc Ron is doing was partially done to fulfill Lynn Herring's request to reunite Kevin and Lucy. She was not happy that they were left apart at the end of PC, and neither was Ron.

by Anonymousreply 21301/08/2013

I love Laura returning!! Will she bring Scotty with her?

by Anonymousreply 21401/08/2013

I have a sneaking suspicion that the PC mystery is a Dark Shadows piss-take. A sci-fi arc which will reveal that Lucy and Kevin were stepping into a parallel universe during their time on the spinoff. Complete with a parallel town of Port Charles where John and Sam's parallel world counterparts were Caleb and Livvie. That's why John and Sam "feel" they know each other somehow.

If you think this sounds farfetched, you obviously missed the time travel arcs on Ron's OLTL where Lea DeLaria played Professor Delbert Fina and used his magical time travel television set to show Rex and Gigi how she had survived being gassed to death in the basement in full broadcast quality video. It's on YouTube and must be seen to be believed.

by Anonymousreply 21501/08/2013

Genie's back?

Somewhere in Amsterdam, Miss Tony Geary is crying into her Amstel beer, and having the big black leatherman give her an extra intense whipping.....

by Anonymousreply 21601/08/2013

Spinelli looks like a wet poodle.

by Anonymousreply 21701/08/2013

I had the impression that Genie and Tony had made peace with each other.

by Anonymousreply 21801/08/2013

I don't expect Luke & Laura will play much together except as parents to Lulu. Luke's plate is already full with Tracy/Anna

by Anonymousreply 21901/08/2013

Think again. Luke and Tracy broke up a year ago. Anna is getting back with Duke. Ron has had this reunion on the books for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 22001/08/2013

Isn't bringing Genie back not only to celebrate the 50th anniversary, but also to escort Tony out?

There's been talk here on DL that Frank isn't happy with Tony's six months worth of vacation each year, doesn't intend to renew his contract under those terms.

So, this would be a way to write Luke and Laura off if Tony won't bend on the contract terms.

by Anonymousreply 22101/08/2013

I think they're getting their end of show pairings in place.

by Anonymousreply 22201/08/2013

Word is that GH is now likely to be renewed, not cancelled in time for their anniversary. But planning for the anniversary (Robin returns, L&L reunion, Dante and Lulu baby) has been being worked on by RC and FV since this time last year.

FV was not happy that TG took an unscheduled absence for unknown reasons during the Faison story, which led TR/Robert to step in and take Luke's scripts in that plot (it should have been Robert in the first place). I have heard that FV has worked Geary a lot harder than he is used to, shades of Steve Burton, and has wanted more time for his money from TG.

It has been floating around since last year that TG intends to retire and exit after the anniversary, and that L&L reuniting is how they plan to do that. Personally I hope they stick around.

by Anonymousreply 22301/08/2013

I'd take Laura without Luke, personally.

I don't know, Lulu needs a family. They don't even have her interact with Liz all that much, and Liz used to be her sister-in-law.

by Anonymousreply 22401/08/2013

Rex, Gigi and the space-time television, featuring DL favorite Lea DeLaria.

Skip ahead to 4:00. Anything is possible in Port Charles.

by Anonymousreply 22501/08/2013

There is a rumor that TG is out the door every year around this time for as many years back as I can remember. He's always "retiring", "over it", etc. I stopped believing it around 2004.

by Anonymousreply 22601/08/2013

R223

Bullshit to FV being angry that TG took a leave of absence for unknown reasons.

He knows what the reason was...TG had to have emergency back surgery

by Anonymousreply 22701/08/2013

Give me Laura circa David Hamilton, then I might watch. The last time that bitch was even remotely interesting.

by Anonymousreply 22801/08/2013

I've been told that the network support behind General Hospital is not a smokescreen. The plans for the ever evolving Daytime landscape, from what I am hearing, will include GH as part of the vision for the Daytime line up for the foreseeable future. Apparently ABC is very happy with the continued ratings rebound, and what Ron and Frank have managed to do with the show creatively. There apparently is genuine surprise at the turn of events. With the underwhelming ratings numbers for GAA and Katie, and GH rising, I am hearing that a lot of executives have begun looking at the relationship between the success of their last remaining soap, and their lifestyle agenda, and seeing each type of entertainment as mutually beneficial, instead of antagonistic.

by Anonymousreply 22901/08/2013

I would not be super shocked if they ended up bringing back AMC and OLTL, R229.

Though they would probably be shorter and on four day a week schedules - with a clip show on day 5.

by Anonymousreply 23001/08/2013

r230, ABC wanted the rights to AMC and OLTL to revert back to them after seeing what Cartini did with GH last year. I don't think they were going to bring them back on daytime like before, but they have something in mind. That's why PP suddenly decided they were back in the soap biz, to keep making money off the rights.

by Anonymousreply 23101/08/2013
Though they would probably be shorter and on four day a week schedules - with a clip show on day 5.

Shocking news r230 they are coming back and that is the plan!

by Anonymousreply 23201/08/2013

R232, he meant coming back on ABC in that format, not on some obscure website.

by Anonymousreply 23301/08/2013

Two of my least favorite characters seem to have had some shining moments during this car accident story. Starr confronting Johnny in the hospital and Connie reeling from Trey's injuries were surprisingly good. You would think Connie would be completely unsympathetic after taunting Starr about the death of her child some weeks ago, but Kelly has really made it work.

by Anonymousreply 23401/09/2013

Oh Silver at R204, I'd welcome you back... If only you hadn't killed me!

by Anonymousreply 23501/09/2013

Forget Silver ... you were sexier when you were being Elliot Dorn with me.

by Anonymousreply 23601/09/2013

I know they wrote Ruby's death in the story after Norma Connelly died, but did they write Jessie Brewer passing away after Emily McLaughlin died?

And I suppose Amy Vining was never killed off after Shell Kepler died?

by Anonymousreply 23701/09/2013

With this news of Pine Valley coming back in some sort of format (I heard it will be available on Viewmaster)...I hope I can finally get my revenge on Tad and Erica!

by Anonymousreply 23801/09/2013
Word is that GH is now likely to be renewed, not cancelled in time for their anniversary. But planning for the anniversary (Robin returns, L&L reunion, Dante and Lulu baby) has been being worked on by RC and FV since this time last year.

ABC-owned daytime shows, like GH, are not "renewed" per se. Because ABC owns the show, it is unnecessary for the network to do so. There isn't an outside team of creators and producers with whom the network signs a contract agreeing to air a show for another year. It has been reported that the Disney board wants all daytime programming to be controlled by the affiliates. ABC may continue to produce syndicated shows (such as Katie), but it will be up to the individual affiliates whether they choose to buy them.
FV was not happy that TG took an unscheduled absence for unknown reasons during the Faison story, which led TR/Robert to step in and take Luke's scripts in that plot (it should have been Robert in the first place). TG had required unexpected back surgery. FV may not have been thrilled about the situation, but it's not as if TG injured himself on purpose. FV is not working Geary "a lot harder than he is used to." If anything, TG works less under FV's management. I doubt FV will ever allow another actor the generous vacation schedule that TG has been given for years. That's what SBu asked for, and he was turned down flat.

by Anonymousreply 23901/09/2013

Unless. R239, that person is:

LA SLEESTACK!

(she also had a generous vacation package when FV was back in Llanview)

by Anonymousreply 24001/09/2013

Not sure you can compare "La Sleestack" with TG. ES chose a generous vacation package rather than demanding more money, unlike Susan Lucci and Maurice Benard. TG got both time and money.

FV has discovered it's not easy to keep TG in frontburner stories because of his time off.

by Anonymousreply 24101/09/2013

bump

by Anonymousreply 24201/09/2013
I know they wrote Ruby's death in the story after Norma Connelly died, but did they write Jessie Brewer passing away after Emily McLaughlin died?

Jessie not only died in the show universe, at the end of the episode in which is happened, they had John Beradino step out of character and dedicate an episode to her.

Amy's death was not addressed, although they did dedicate an episode to Shell Kepler. She'd been off the show for several years at that point.

by Anonymousreply 24301/09/2013

I still think people are in for a rude awakening with Prospect Park. They aren't going to get the AMC and OLTL they are used to or want. If you think the budget cuts on the network soaps have made the shows look cheap and taped together, wait until you see this. And they're not using WGA writers. Just you wait. I predict nothing but bitching and complaining, that makes the usual bitching and complaining seem like love letters. Trust.

by Anonymousreply 24401/09/2013

Sleestak's annual vacation was in place long before Valentini became EP at OLTL, and yes she chose that so she could be home when her kids were off from school.

by Anonymousreply 24501/09/2013

Thanks, Voice. RC should have Laura and Lesley take a moment to deal with Amy's death. In the bigger picture, her absence from Laura's multi-returns doesn't fit history's pattern.

by Anonymousreply 24601/09/2013

r244, I agree. People who are hailing the Second Coming with these reboots have no idea the changes in store for them. It will be a whole different experience.

by Anonymousreply 24701/09/2013

Good call on the bad, cheap production values that will accompany the PP productions. BTW Soapnet was supposed to be ended what is going on with that? They could put the new episodes on Soapnet and or ABC if The Chew or Katie bombs.

by Anonymousreply 24801/09/2013

There are already online soaps with former TV soap stars.

I don't know any of the names of them or where to view them and assume that most other people don't know or care to find out either.

And PP probably wants to charge to view the online AMC and OLTL. They're not going to last very long.

by Anonymousreply 24901/09/2013

r49 one of the more successful ones that I know of is called Venice: The Series. Yes, they do charge I think $10 per season of about a dozen episodes to view online. The number of subscribers is small--I think I read 30,000--and the actors are being paid nothing. I'd say PP would be extremely lucky to attract a quarter of the audience the network had if that. There's no way PP is going make the $40 million budgets per show they're talking about.

by Anonymousreply 25001/09/2013

R250 There would have to be ads a la Hulu. There's no way they can make it work otherwise. Once again if they partner with a Disney owned channel like Soapnet it could work, otherwise it's a pipe dream.

by Anonymousreply 25101/09/2013

Not news since he has been taping but it is confirmed, Jon Lindstrom is back as Kevin Collins.

From Ron Carlivati: “The last we knew, it was implied at Lila’s memorial that Lucy had reconciled with Kevin, and that they were together. And we did see a picture of him on her desk at CoeCoe Cosmetics. So the big question is, where is he and why hasn’t she mentioned him? Lucy gets herself into a pretty major jam during February sweeps and, when that happens, she receives a surprise visitor. That is Kevin. When he arrives, you’ll find out why you haven’t seen him yet, why she hasn’t mentioned him and what is the status of their relationship.”

by Anonymousreply 25201/09/2013

It has been announced Genie Francis will be returning to GH

Her first air date will be Feb 11

by Anonymousreply 25301/09/2013
Shocking news [R230] they are coming back and that is the plan!

R232 - sorry, I worded that confusingly.

I KNOW they are coming back online, on Prospect Park, whatever. What I meant is that if PP gets the shows running online, I would not be surprised if somehow ABC started to show it again in the afternoon.

Sounds dumb but if PP can produce the show for cheaper, it may make economic sense for ABC. "Katie" and "The Chew" are not setting the world on fire.

by Anonymousreply 25401/09/2013

[R253] Yes, we know. That was covered yesterday.

by Anonymousreply 25501/09/2013

More from the article on Lucy and Port Charles.

The plot gets even dizzier when Duke Lavery, played by Ian Buchanan who also played vampire king Joshua Temple on PC, pays a visit to Lucy at the jailhouse. "That really throws her for a loop — in fact, the whole thing's a total mindf--k!" says Carlivati. "We'll also throw Sam's mother Alexis [Nancy Lee Grahn] into the mix as Lucy's attorney."

How far will Carlivati take this thing? "The story does get pretty over-the-top yet it's still rooted in a certain reality," says the scribe. "Lucy may be off-kilter but she's certainly not in Heather Webber territory. Her belief in vampires will be very convincing." Especially for the PC viewers who saw it all happen!

"That show was so ahead of its time and this is a nice nod to the fans who supported all those wild chances we took," Herring says. "I love that we're still taking chances and not sidestepping the past. If Lucy met up with John and didn't recognize him, we'd be flooded with complaints!"

The return to vamp territory is especially gratifying for Herring who wasn't welcomed back to GH when PC was cancelled. "That was very disheartening," she says. "I never occurred to me that Lucy wouldn't still have a place in town if PC didn't work out. But you know what? Even knowing what I know now, I would still go off to do PC. I would not trade that fabulous experience for anything!"

by Anonymousreply 25601/09/2013

That sounds terrible. I'll be sure to skip that day.

by Anonymousreply 25701/09/2013

I can't believe that Bob Guza's multi Emmy winning dark and complex drama about the flawed human condition has turned into this mess.

by Anonymousreply 25801/09/2013

r258 = Bob Guza

by Anonymousreply 25901/09/2013

R256 All the young twinks and hausfraus will not give a fuck about the vampire king! They haven't seen Duke Lavery in close to a quarter of a century now Lucy is freaked out by Duke?!

RC bring back some evil villian like Victor Cassadine or Grant Putnam, this Lucy shit is becoming tiresome. I love Lynn herring but she's so camp they need a real badass to come around and fuck things up.

by Anonymousreply 26001/09/2013

GH had over 3 million viewers the week of Christmas. The first time in over two years!

by Anonymousreply 26101/09/2013
I can't believe that Bob Guza's multi Emmy winning dark and complex drama about the flawed human condition has turned into this mess.

The Guza era was like watching someone take a shit on screen.

Someone who was very, VERY constipated,

Cartini isn't perfect - Ron C goes to the "hey, let's make this female character a nutty bitch" well too many times - but they are light years better than Guza and Jill Farren Phart.

by Anonymousreply 26201/09/2013

Can I say that I'm dreading the story of how Dante and Lulu come to be raising Maxie and Spinelli's offspring? Not to mention that it is EXTREMELY unlikely that a woman who had just had a miscarriage would not only have ovulated but would have a uterus that was in the condition to have another embryo implant?

I mean, that's not as great a crime as the transplantation of Erica's aborted fetus, but it still bugged me.

How in the world can Patrick want to have anything to do with Britt? She's awful to Sabrina in front of him, Emma hates her, and even though he doesn't know this yet, she stole from LIZ'S CHILDREN. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 26301/09/2013

So Ian Buchanan played a vampire on Port Charles?

by Anonymousreply 26401/09/2013

R258 - Complex drama about the flawed human condition? LMAO! That would be Willie Shakespeare. Guza's one-dimensional, one-note Soprano's lite fest was hardly complex and elicited more than one (unintentional) laugh with that ridiculous dialog. This was not enhanced by the blink and stare Steve Burton and the mumbling, stutterings of Maurice Benard. You must be one of the writers they unloaded.

by Anonymousreply 26501/09/2013
I can't believe that Bob Guza's multi Emmy winning dark and complex drama about the flawed human condition has turned into this mess.

I started watching GH over twenty years ago.

I've enjoyed the last four or five months that I've been watching steadily again more than I've enjoyed the show in more than a decade.

by Anonymousreply 26601/09/2013

Kin Shriner is back too, I hear.

Ian played Joshua, king of the vampires on PC. I have heard rumors they may make Sabrina into Duke and Anna's longlost child but I'm not sure I do believe that.

What I have heard all but confirmed is that Britt is a plant sent by Faison and Dr. Obrecht, that she is their daughter. Which is the only thing that makes sense for such a psychotic, overly pushy whore. He was in rehab for his drug addiction brought about by Robin's "death" only 6 months ago.

by Anonymousreply 26701/09/2013

It just surprises me that two European terrorists could produce a daughter with such a flawless American accent.

In my extended fantasy in which Kyle and Fish have relocated to PC, Kyle is friends with Kyle Julian from Night Shift and Felix, and Liz is their hag.

by Anonymousreply 26801/09/2013

There's no way PP is going make the $40 million budgets per show they're talking about.

According to PP's sales pitch they only need about 250,000 streams a day for the shows to be profitable. If Venice is getting 30,000 streams at $10 a pop its very believable that AMC and OLTL could get 250K for free. Hulu gets $40 per every 1000 ads streamed. PP is looking at this for their profit margin. But there is more to it. They still want to sell the reruns to cable, and they are planning DVD sets of AMC and OLTL and iTunes paid downloads. Something I've wondered for years why ABC never took advantage of this. Their pitch is impressive, and if all the stars can align for everything to fall in place it could work. But the fans will have to support it and watch.

by Anonymousreply 26901/09/2013

I've been told PP plans to charge a fairly hefty fee to watch the online soaps, so I hope they're not counting on me.

I quit watching AMC when David Canary left, and I quit watching OLTL long before it was over. I have no desire to see either of them again.

by Anonymousreply 27001/09/2013

VOTN

What do you mean Britt stole money from Liz's children ?

by Anonymousreply 27101/09/2013

Voice, I grok your vibe but the accent thing is a typical soap mistake. Or in other words, the producers think that the audiences don't give a shit so we won't give a shit. One example was Victor Cassadine he had an Aussie accent while the rest of them either sounded American or at least one other sounded foreign! Remember on Days when the Bradys had a cousin who came from Ireland and he had an Aussie accent as well?!It's nuts but that's how it goes. speaking of Victor he needs to come back to evil it up a bit. I love Dr O BUT she is so campy though. She's too Frau Farbissina at times.

by Anonymousreply 27201/10/2013
What do you mean Britt stole money from Liz's children?

She stole that special hard-to-find Christmas movie that Elizabeth bought for her own kids and took it over to Patrick's place pretending she got it just for Emma.

by Anonymousreply 27301/10/2013

I agree with the poster who keeps throwing Victor Cassadine's name out there. It's time for him to make a return to the crime scene. Instead of another illigetimate child of Mikkos (or even Helena!), give us some offspring of Victor's (Guza was planning to bring on yet another Mikkos child - Valentin - that should have been Victor's son).

Another poster claims Stefan once mentioned Victor died in prison. On GH, no one ever dies.

Love to see Victor and Helena engage in a power struggle that sucks everyone into their orbit.

by Anonymousreply 27401/10/2013

Could the Victor Cassadine Troll please just admit you are Thaao Penghlis, looking for a new gig?

We get it, you think Victor should be back on the show. But posting the same thing over and over again is tiresome. I'm pretty sure I've seen you posting on a soap board with the same schtick, or maybe it's just your evil twin?

by Anonymousreply 27501/10/2013

Annie Logan Cassadine.

Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

by Anonymousreply 27601/10/2013

They would have been smart to pretend that the Port Charles nonsense with vampires never happened. Ron always takes a good thing and goes too far.

by Anonymousreply 27701/10/2013

CBS threw a huge love fest for Steve Burton joing CBS Daytime on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. Julie Chen and the other broads of THE TALK went all gaga over him. He looked grossed out when the big Black girl kept hugging him.

by Anonymousreply 27801/10/2013

I'm hoping it turns out the whole PORT CHARLES run was a figment of Lucy's imagination or something. In a recent interview, Lynn Herring claims that PC was a head of its time with its supernatural twists and its book format story arcs, which is bullshit - it reflected exactly what went wrong with soaps in the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 27901/10/2013

r279, we posted the PC news upthread. It's NOT in Lucy's imagination.

by Anonymousreply 28001/10/2013

R279 - I am in total agreement with you. When Days of Our Lives had Marlena possessed by the Devil and Stefano deMera's many deaths and comebacks, it was the end of my viewing days for that show. Same with the whole vampire thing. They like to blame the O.J. trial, even nowadays, but the fact is that if the shows were still addictive and must see viewing for the majority of the audience, they would not have gone downhill the way they did. RC should have just let the PC stuff alone and pretend it never happened - the show has been off the air for a long time and was barely watched when it was cancelled. There was no need to go there - I hope he does not ruin all of his good work with this faux pas.

by Anonymousreply 28101/10/2013

I'm hoping that Sonny and all the mob stories were in Lucy's imagination and never really happened.

by Anonymousreply 28201/10/2013
Ron always takes a good thing and goes too far.

Yep.

I like his work and most of his ideas. And when he brings characters back he is really good (mostly) about reintroducing them in a way where it catches their original essence, but also puts them in modern story, so they aren't trapped in a scrap book.

But he almost always takes things too far. And he has gone to the Crazy Bitch well way too many times to explain something.

by Anonymousreply 28301/10/2013

I love Susan Pratt! Annie vs Heather bring it on.

There is no evil twin for Thaao/Cassadine. There are quite a few people that would like him back. GH fans that want to see Scotty,Laura and a whole slew of characters come back. I just wonder how much GH's budget is? They could bring back Shep/The Space Alien to ruin Duke and Anna's new found love...

The whole turkey baster,Manning,Kate Howard mess is such a bore. Thank God , anna ,Duke and Luke are back. These young whipper snappers are boring the heck out of me.

by Anonymousreply 28401/10/2013

I'm willing to give these callbacks to PC a chance. Yeah, I know I loved the show (although I'd quit watching about a year before it ended), but in the 80s, Laura Webber once held Victor Cassadine at the business end of an AK-47 while Luke Spencer frantically tried to save the city from Mikkos Cassadine's evil weather machine. Off-the-wall stuff has been happening in Port Charles for a very long time.

The early arcs of PC's gothic/sci-fi days worked because despite the ridiculousness of the material, the actors committed to it and played it straight, not campy. The stuff with Duke and Faison worked for a similar reason. Lynn Herring can be incredibly campy, but a lot of that is because LUCY can be incredibly campy. When Lucy has been written straight, Lynn acquits herself very well; I've always thought she doesn't get nearly enough credit. I mean, there was a reason why they chose her to anchor the spin-off.

One of the reasons why I always liked Lucy and Kevin as a couple was because of how well they balanced each other. Lucy was never "too Lucy" when she was with Kevin.

As an aside, how does an outspoken, feminist, ultra-liberal Jew like Nancy Lee Grahn work regularly with so many Righteous Christian Men and not want to kill them or herself?

by Anonymousreply 28501/10/2013

Pardon, but in what delusional universe would two women be fighting over that human/toad hybrid Spinelli?

by Anonymousreply 28601/10/2013

Matt Borlenghi from AMC was hired to play Valentin Cassadine, who was built up in the scripts as this terrifying villain who even Helena feared and told Luke to watch out for.

All of a sudden, the storyline disappeared when James Franco agreed to begin his lame-ass run on the show. Borlenghi was in the makeup chair getting ready to tape when he was told the story had been "delayed" for Franco. It never actually got picked up again and Valentin has never been mentioned since.

I'm not sure if Valentin was supposed to be another of Mikkos's bastards, but the Cassadine that made the least sense was Irina/"Cassandra", who Helena herself shot and killed in February. Supposedly she was Helena's daughter who had been locked away for years on Cassadine Island, but Helena is older than the pyramids and Irina was in her early 20s. Irina was the "Woman in White" from Garin Wolf's dog of a storyline in 2011 and was supposed to be Ethan's new love interest. Two days after RC took over he had Helena shoot her dead for betraying her to Ethan and the Spencers.

by Anonymousreply 28701/10/2013

Also, not only was Ian Buchanan the Vampire King on Port Charles, but Charles Keating from AW was Caleb's Renfield for a brief period.

by Anonymousreply 28801/10/2013

I think RC has always done a great job making the craziest stuff from the past fit in with the present and modern stories and characters. Lucy fits like a glove. And whatever he does with PC it will be rooted in the characters of today. I am glad he is addressing it because no other writer would dare.

John heads back to Llanview in early Feb to deal with Natalie and Liam, which is why Florencia Lozano is taping as Tea, who is John's attorney. Supposedly little Liam will appear as a 5 or 6 year old boy. Blair is also slated to appear again soon. No word on Melissa Archer yet since PP still has those rights. Prospect Park could take Natalie, Blair, Tea and others from us if they do get this OLTL revival off the ground. They hired a guy from the WWF to serve as their new production head.

by Anonymousreply 28901/10/2013

That's when Lucy's imagination has been spiked by a couple of anti-depressents, r286.

by Anonymousreply 29001/10/2013

That "Woman In White" story was strange. Even stranger that it was built around an echo of Genie Francis' Laura (te portrait at Wyndemere). I often wondered if Cassandra was supposed to be a twin Laura had and may not have known about (when she gave birth to Nikolas) ... Luke's son and Laura's daughter would be the next couple of the moment, blah-bla-blah.

by Anonymousreply 29101/10/2013

Yes, r280, but RC implies everyone is wondering about Lucy's sanity during this whole story. Kevin could come back and find out through therapy that Lucy thinks all of that PC crap happened but it was actually a dream that she never got over or something; perhaps she was in a coma all those years for an accident.

by Anonymousreply 29201/10/2013

The Woman in White story was one of the weirder ones I've seen in years.

The way I remember it, Garin Wolf used it to introduce both Cassandra and Dr. Ewen. After Nikolas left town and left Wyndemere vacant, Ethan became the caretaker and found Cassandra wandering the halls, identical to the portrait of Laura (which was still there when Robert met Helena there weeks ago). There were big parallels between Cassandra and Laura left unexplained. Cassandra was supposed to be an amnesiac with prodigious intellect, some kind of photographic or eidetic memory, a weird sort of savant but she couldn't remember who she was after a near death drowning experience, and Ewen was her doctor. Apparently the original story Garin Wolf had planned involved Ewen turning out to be a Cassadine. It turned out Cassandra was in league with Helena, who was using her to trap Ethan as revenge on Luke.

The plotline was left hanging until RC arrived in February of last year, and in 2 days he wrapped it all up by saying that Cassandra was actually Irina Cassadine, Helena's daughter who had tried to escape Cassadine Island, almost drowned, lost her memory, then gained part of it back and gone to work for Helena, until she fell in love with Ethan, her mark. Helena killed her for the betrayal. I guess it sort of makes sense, but not really. RC did the best he could to wrap up GW's overly convoluted and very, very unpopular story.

Unfortunately the WIW story being killed led to Nathan Parsons (Ethan) quitting. He was totally into the Cassandra story, unlike every fan on Planet Earth.

by Anonymousreply 29301/10/2013

Yes, the Woman in White was supposed to be Laura and Stavros' daughter and Nicholas' twin. All of that was thrown out when Ron began writing. They also threw out Alexis' rape storyline.

by Anonymousreply 29401/10/2013

R285 VOTN, I don't think the Faison/Duke storyline was that brilliant. You are the king of suspending disbelief at certain things so here's an observation.....how corny did that Duke mask look? How did Faison fit his stringy, dirty hair in there. and last but not least how did he change his heavy accent into a Scottish accent?! They underused Faison,he deserved far more screen time than he got.

I'm a huge Lynn Herring fan BUT she's too camp for this show now. Then again she's not as snoozy as the Spinelli/Maxie surrogate/Sonny storyline. Lynn claims PC was ahead of its time? Days was doing that kooky possession storyline with a panther being involved! How can you top that. However, GH with the Ice Princess storyline set a standard for wacky storylines that would culminate with the Eterna storyline on OLTL. Then they found out that the Dark Shadows was more marketable than the Bond/Sci-Fi plots.

Spinelli has animal magnetism,he's hung like a horse and his breath is absolutely magnetic! I get it he's no sex symbol but women don't always go for the hunk. They sometimes go for the goofy looking dude to the amazement of most men, straight and gay.

by Anonymousreply 29501/10/2013

Who was Alexis supposed to be raped by?

by Anonymousreply 29601/10/2013

r295, Lynn Herring is glorious and fits snugly back into GH like she never left. You're an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 29701/10/2013
Matt Borlenghi from AMC was hired to play Valentin Cassadine, who was built up in the scripts as this terrifying villain who even Helena feared and told Luke to watch out for.

OMG, I totally forgot about that. That was weird. I remember the fuss about his hiring and then.....nada.

by Anonymousreply 29801/10/2013

You're right r295, Lynn Herring is too campy for such a serious show now.

by Anonymousreply 29901/10/2013

R298, Borlenghi was sitting in the makeup chair at GH when word came that someone in the ABCD hierarchy changed his mind and the Valentin story had been pulled.

by Anonymousreply 30001/10/2013
Borlenghi was sitting in the makeup chair at GH when word came that someone in the ABCD hierarchy changed his mind and the Valentin story had been pulled.

He must not have looked convincing enough or had a big enough smile on his face when he had that old caftan ka-ween Brian Frons sucking his cock. So glad Fronsie is gone.

by Anonymousreply 30101/10/2013

As I wrote upthread, Valentin got yanked when James Franco, Steve Burton's buddy, decided he wanted to do a stint on the show.

Guza and JFP fell all over him, crafted the character of "Franco" and the rest is history.

by Anonymousreply 30201/10/2013

The bigger mystery is how James Franco (ostensibly a film star, supposedly open minded, seems to have a gay friendly vibe).....

...is "friends" with Steve Burton (actor with the range of a piece of deadwood, fundie Christian, no credibility in Hollywood, and shucks Monavie on the side)???

by Anonymousreply 30301/10/2013

The Valentin character was going to be accompanied by a girl named "Mischa," possibly another Cassadine and a potential love interest for the returning Jonathan Jackson. They had promised JJ a reunion with Becky Herbst and Elizabeth but Guza had no intention of doing that. When the Valentin story fell through, he created the character of Siobhan for Lucky instead.

JJ ultimately left GH again at the end of 2011, exhausted from the workload, disgusted by the misery and agony of his stories and the lack of a reunion with Liz. He was going to appear this past fall opposite Luke to fix their relationship, but TG's absence prevented that. He is still on the books to appear in the future for both TG and BH as JJ's schedule with "Nashville" permits.

by Anonymousreply 30401/10/2013

Steve Burton pushed his then "star of the show" weight around to get the story with Franco, hoping this would be his ticket to a big Hollywood career.

Franco called GH wanting a short stint on a soap opera for some documentary he was doing at the time.

by Anonymousreply 30501/10/2013
He is still on the books to appear in the future for both TG and BH as JJ's schedule with "Nashville" permits.

I hope he's on, even if only for a few days, when Genie returns. Laura MUST see her son, even if only for one episode and even if it's just him and her.

by Anonymousreply 30601/10/2013

Franco had JFP and Guza catering to his every whim. Including featuring the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA, which happens to be home to former Y&R dilettante/idiot EP Maria Arena Bell, who just got fired for JFP) on the show in a major action setpiece with Jason and Franco. And convincing them to use batshit crazy drag artist Kalup Linzy, who sang "Mad World" in the midst of all this.

It has to be seen to be believed.

by Anonymousreply 30701/10/2013

Kalup is a trip. He's spoofed soaps before.

by Anonymousreply 30801/10/2013

R307, Franco paid for the shoot at MOCA. I mean, they shouldn't have done it, but at least GH didn't blow budget on it.

by Anonymousreply 30901/10/2013

Is there any indication at all that Rachel Aames will be back for the anniversary?

I'm taking it that Lesley will be back for Laura's return.

by Anonymousreply 31001/10/2013

I'd heard Rachel Ames may have been approached, but is retired and concerned about having to remember lines. I think it's anyone's guess if she appears.

by Anonymousreply 31101/10/2013

It wasn't Guza. That was all Frons. He didn't want any competition for his golden couple, Jason and Sam. He was sure that if all other pairings included a mediocre newcomer, it would make his favorites shine.

He had gotten burned badly when he forced Jason and Courtney. The couple who were supposed to be the consolation prize, Ric and Elizabeth, left them in the dust and Frons never forgave or forgot.

R305 has it right about Burton and Franco. Burton would love to use his so-called friendship with Franco to parlay a movie career for himself. He has been trying to break into movies and primetime throughout his time on soaps with little to show for his efforts. He's a terrible wooden actor who doesn't know how to look natural when he moves.

Franco is the one who approached GH. Burton jumped on the chance it might provide him. I understand Franco and JFP are pretty close.

by Anonymousreply 31201/10/2013

R297 Did you go back to your elementary school class yet? Or are you a brain damaged twink? I thought so. Not only are you are a dilettante but an absolute moron as well. If you have an opinion voice it intelligently or go back to the peanut gallery you thankless dimwit.

Sabrina, that so-called camp element of the show with Todd and Company is very annoying to me. I love Lynn Herring she can do no wrong BUT there's something about the plotting I don't like.I think Lindstrom coming back will be a step in the positive direction.

It'll be good to see Scotty,Laura and Kevin return. I wonder who's next beyond that.....

by Anonymousreply 31301/10/2013

I'm so happy Lucy and Mac got a scene together. I knew they wouldn't forget those two plus Felicia and Kevin were all best friends.

by Anonymousreply 31401/10/2013

I wonder how Kristina Wagner feels about her abusive ex-husband coming to GH.

by Anonymousreply 31501/10/2013

Was Jack Wagner physically abusive to her? I know he's never been able to keep it in his pants and always expected her to look the other way.

I met both of them at Tahoe. She is a lovely person and incredibly beautiful. But not very confident. He could charm the birds out of the trees.

by Anonymousreply 31601/10/2013

Yeah, I'm not really thrilled R315. I might go the Tonya Harding route.

by Anonymousreply 31701/10/2013

Does Chad Duel always look painfully constipated during heavy dramatic scenes?

FV in TV Guide:

Though April 1 marks General Hospital's actual 50th anniversary, the show's executive producer, Frank Valentini, and head writer Ron Carlivati, have been honoring the show's rich history ever since taking over the ABC soap opera one year ago this week. Their efforts have paid off in spades — with a serious rise in ratings and multiple award nominations. With old favorites like Finola Hughes (Anna), Ian Buchanan (Duke), Tristan Rogers (Scorpio), Kristina Wagner (Felicia), Lynn Herring (Lucy) and Robin Mattson (Heather) already back on the canvas, and Genie Francis (Laura) and Jon Lindstrom (Kevin) soon making their way back to Port Charles, what else could possibly be left for fans to look forward to as the actual anniversary date approaches? Turns out plenty. Valentini opens up about all he's cooking up to celebrate GH's golden jubilee this spring.

TV Guide Magazine: What will be happening in Port Charles during the actual anniversary week? Valentini: We're reviving the Nurses' Ball, which is something the show did years ago to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS. I think the feel-good philanthropic aspect of the show was missing. This gives all the people in the hospital — Patrick, Sabrina, Liz, Epiphany and Felix — a real presence as we celebrate the hospital and the people who are the do-gooders. For a long time the moral compass of the show was off a little bit, and I think now we're back to where it needs to be. And the people like Luke and Sonny, who may do the wrong thing, are still good guys in their hearts. Maurice Benard (Sonny) has just signed another long-term deal with the show and there are some exciting things coming up for him and Kate in the next few weeks.

TV Guide Magazine: What can we expect to see at the Ball? Valentini: There will be some big story reveals over a few days. We're now doing the sketches for the set and costume designs, which are going to be really exciting. We'll have the characters sing and dance. We'll of course have (inaugural Dancing With the Stars champ) Kelly (Monaco, who plays Sam) dance. We might even bring (her DWTS partner) Val Chermkovskiy back.

TV Guide Magazine: Safe to say Lucy's clothes will come off as in year's past? Valentini: Yeah, they'll come off. Lucy has a big story that will finish off right at the beginning of the Nurses' Ball.

TV Guide Magazine: Since it is the nurses ball, any chance you'd invite Jacklyn Zeman back as Bobbie Spencer since she was the hospital's reigning head nurse for so many years, and her brother Luke and daughter Carly are still front and center? Valentini: Absolutely. We love Jackie. We've talked on the phone a couple times and she's lovely. She might appear at the ball, though there are the realities of budgets and scheduling. We're still figuring it out. The people on the show have real affection for her so it'll all work out.

TV Guide Magazine: There are people like Bobbie and Audrey Hardy (an original character not seen since 2009) who are supposedly in the town but never seen. Valentini: Yes, Audrey we want to bring back as well. My assistant casting director has spoken to Rachel Ames (now 83) about coming for the Nurses' Ball. She's Liz's grandmother and we talk about her all the time so it would be really fun to have her back. I talked to her the other day and she said, 'I think I could come back and sit in the audience. That could be fun.'

TV Guide Magazine: It might also be nice to make mention of Laura's half sister, nurse Amy Vining, who was played for years by Shell Kepler before she passed away (in 2008 at age 49). Valentini: That's a good idea. Let me text Ron. We should.

TV Guide Magazine: What's up with this talk of a vampire storyline related to the events of the short-lived GH spin-off Port Charles? Valentini: We're not doing vampires. Because we have Michael (Easton, who plays John) and Lynn who were both on Port Charles with Kelly, we're just doing a nod.

TV Guide Magazine: This week, Anna referenced Holly was in a hospital room with Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), but neither were seen. What

by Anonymousreply 31901/10/2013

TV Guide Magazine: This week, Anna referenced Holly was in a hospital room with Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), but neither were seen. What is Tristan Rogers' status with the show now?

Valentini: Tristan is so awesome. I'm personally really fond of him. Then we came up with this interesting idea of Robin being discovered by her father. Kimberly McCullough (Robin) has her directing career she's working on now so we've been able to foster a relationship with her so that she can come back and forth while she's pursuing her other goals.

TV Guide Magazine: Is the ultimate plan to have Robin back in Port Charles full time?

Valentini: We would love to. It's going to depend on her. Our door is always open.

TV Guide Magazine: In the meantime you are setting up the character of Sabrina as a possible love interest for 'widowed' Patrick. And we all know it's only a matter of time before you give this Ugly Betty a beauty makeover. When's it going to happen?

Valentini: It's coming. The time has come to reveal Sabrina's beauty. Maybe around the Nurses Ball.

TV Guide Magazine: When you introduced the Swiss clinic storyline, I was convinced there were going to be even more dead people being secretly kept alive. Tops on my wish list were Alan and Maxie's sister Georgie. Any chance?

Valentini: That's a really big facility so anything can happen (laughs). At this point we don't have anything planned. We hope to be seeing Stuart (Damon, who plays Alan) again. And everyone loved Georgie.

TV Guide Magazine: Maxie's got to be pregnant with Spinelli's baby, right?

Valentini: She is probably pregnant.

TV Guide Magazine: Can you see yourself recasting the Jason role now that Steve Burton has signed with The Young and the Restless?

Valentini: Not at this point because Jason's absence opens up a lot of fun possibilities for Sam.

TV Guide Magazine: With Prospect Park now reviving One Life to Live, which you executive produced in its final days, there are reports that they have first rights to the characters of John McBain and Todd and Starr Manning, who you've now successfully integrated into the Port Charles canvas. Should we be worried they'll all have to say goodbye?

Valentini: Right now we're trying to work it out. I can't really say because the lawyers are doing their thing. Our hope is that we'll be able to continue what we're be doing.

TV Guide Magazine: Genie Francis has been so misused during her previous returns. What will be the extent of her participation this time?

Valentini: It's open-ended and will be something really exciting that will affect the whole Spencer family. We're working on bringing back some of the Spencer boys as well.

TV Guide Magazine: The Spencer boys are Lucky, played by Jonathan Jackson who is now on Nashville, Ethan and Nikolas. Who do you want to bring back?

Valentini: Nashville is part of the ABC family so it's just a scheduling situation for Jonathan, who is just a lovely guy. And maybe Ethan. And I've met with Tyler (Christopher, who plays Nikolas) who is a strong possibility. I can't say definite because we have to make deals.

TV Guide Magazine: And Denise Alexander, who played Laura's mother, Lesley Webber?

Valentini: The casting people are looking into her availability now.

TV Guide Magazine: Anything you can tell us about Laura's storyline? Valentini: We will explore where she's been, what she's been doing, why she's been away and she'll come back with a big secret.

by Anonymousreply 32001/10/2013

TV Guide Magazine: Laura was written off at one point as flying off with Scotty Baldwin. Any plans to bring back Kin Shriner, especially now that Lucy's back?

Valentini: We'd love to have Kin back, it's just right now we're juggling so many. And we don't want to short shrift anyone in terms of their returns. Timing is important. We were careful to bring Felicia back when we got (Kirsten Storms) back as Maxie.

TV Guide Magazine: That brings us to Frisco. Are we going to see Jack Wagner, who hasn't been in Port Charles since 1995?

Valentini: Yes. I think it's going to happen. We're very excited. He's got a lot of things going on, so it will be a limited thing for now. We're working with his schedule.

TV Guide Magazine: Given that Jack and Kristina were once married in real life, safe to assume you got the okay from Kristina first?

Valentini: Well, yes and no. I feel I have to respect people's privacy. I just let her know that we were going to be doing a story that involved Frisco Jones, because as an actor that's what she needed to know, and she was fantastic. They get along great and have a family, so it's all good.

TV Guide Magazine: Maybe you can reunite Kristina and Jack in real life?

Valentini: (Laughs) Stranger things have been known to happen. Hey, on One Life to Live, I introduced David Fumero (who played Cristian Vega) and his wife, who played his sister.

by Anonymousreply 32101/10/2013
Epiphany

YAY!

And he's not quite right about one thing. It wasn't a philanthropic spirit that was missing, it was the entire goddamn hospital.

by Anonymousreply 32201/10/2013

What an awesome interview. TV GUIDE asked the right questions and Valentini answered them beautifully. It really feels god that there is someone in charge who "gets" the sow and appears to be determined to give the show and its long-time viewers respect.

Love that he's been doing something in regards to getting Aames, Zeman and Alexander back, and I loved how he responded to the Shell Kepler question. A bit surprised by his response to the Kin Shriner question - it appears he definitely wants Jack Wagner back for an arc (in fact, I tink it's safe to say it WILL happen), but things are too crowded for Scotty's return? With Laura coming back? And Lucy and Kevin back? And Heather making periodic returns? Even his ex-lover Tracy is in town. Nothing for Scotty to do? Yet someone like Felix has priority?

Anyone have any inside track on Shriner's status at the show? It's been rumoured again and again he's coming back, but nothing official. Nancy Lee Grahan even tweeted months ago she was excited he was returning, but ABC had to deny it. A spoiler on a reputable website (Generalhospitalhappenings)indicated Scotty was going to be Todd's lawyer in the baby-switching storyline, but suddenly it was Hennessey's Diane Miller. Something going on?

by Anonymousreply 32301/10/2013

Kin was slated to return last spring, with Scott involved with Heather Webber, but events with Burton, etc. made them rearrange. Then they hit on bringing back Sean Kanan as AJ.

I am sure he will eventually appear. It's a question of when.

The Frisco story is a done deal. He returns during Maxie's health crisis. Shades of BJ, a lot of stuff with Felicia and Mac.

by Anonymousreply 32401/11/2013

R316, any time a person is as flagrantly unfaithful as Jack Wagner, there's emotional abuse involved. On top of that, he abandoned her as soon as she gave birth to their first son. He immediately joined the cast of Santa Barbara and very publicly got involved with at least two of the actresses on that show, while his wife raised their baby alone and kept her own career going.

Jack Wagner appears to have untreated sex addiction. Those of us who have had partners who are sex addicts will tell you it's an emotional nightmare. It's not like open relationships where there's a degree of openness and honesty involved, sex addicts are extremely destructive toward those they claim to love. There's no such thing as open or honest with them, unless it's part of their groveling routine when they get caught.

They're like alcoholics because they always swear they'll never do it again, and the next day or the next week there they go tearing off again to get laid.

by Anonymousreply 32501/11/2013

Wagner's treatment of Kristina is chronicled in the book You'll Never Maked Love in this Town Again.

It was written by a couple high class call girls. He realy treated her like shit.

"Coe-CEO, or No-CEO."

by Anonymousreply 32701/11/2013

How is it that Frank & Ron are better at bringing back GH vets than they were with OLTL, a show that they both supposedly loved much more?

by Anonymousreply 32801/11/2013

Ron actually knows GH better - I saw an interview with him a few months ago. He's watched GH longer, but got obsessed with OLTL in high school.

I think part of it, R328, is that Brian Frons is gone and the obstacle to them doing the things they want (namely, Frons and his fat smelly ass) is gone.

by Anonymousreply 32901/11/2013

One reason might be money. It seems like ABC is giving them a slightly larger budget.

Also, it might be that more of their vets are based in LA, and fewer of OLTL's vets are based in New York, and that caused logistical problems.

by Anonymousreply 33001/11/2013
For a long time the moral compass of the show was off a little bit, and I think now we're back to where it needs to be.

We have a winner!

Tell Mr. Valentini what he's won!

I assume the prize is an all-expenses-paid weekend with the Ford brother of his choice, but...

by Anonymousreply 33101/11/2013

As an OLTL fan, I am a little jealous. I would have loved to see what the show could have been without Frons at the helm in an environment like ABC seems to have now.

by Anonymousreply 33201/11/2013

Isn't it odd that GH's chances for survival has increased since Frons, with a lot of experience as a daytime executive, was replaced by the reality show woman, who had none?

by Anonymousreply 33301/11/2013

If they make out the Port Charles novellas were all in Lucy's mind I will scream. Livvie and Caleb are far more imaginative, superior characters to Sam and McBain - i don't want those terrific creations to be sidelined just to fit GH's shitty agenda.

by Anonymousreply 33401/11/2013

VOTN, this sounded pretty good:
For a long time the moral compass of the show was off a little bit, and I think now we're back to where it needs to be.

I was starting to get encouraged, then he said this:
[bold]And the people like Luke and Sonny, who may do the wrong thing, are still good guys in their hearts.[/bold]

All hope is lost. This Valentini guy would probably make excuses for Ted Bundy.

"[A]re still good guys in their hearts?" Uh no, they aren't. No matter how he spins it, Sonny has murdered many people for money and power and Luke is a rapist, thief, con artist, an alcoholic, just an all-around worthless POS.

by Anonymousreply 33501/11/2013

tell me about it r335 - and Tony Geary would also spit at Frank for making such an inane contrived comment. Tony is the first person to say Luke Spencer is an absolute bastard. A nihilist, a con artist, a provocateur. Good guy at heart? Fuck no. Maurice Benard on the other hand would love Frank's comment - he actually thinks his character is some kind of noble misunderstood hero.

by Anonymousreply 33601/11/2013
I assume the prize is an all-expenses-paid weekend with the Ford brother of his choice, but...

I think Frankie already had his choice of Ford brother on the casting couch.

Frank is a hot fucker....

by Anonymousreply 33701/11/2013

I don't necessarily think that Sonny is a hero, but he's definitely got better aspects than have been displayed since at least Guza's return in 2002. He was a complete bad guy when he first appeared, getting Karen Wexler hooked on drugs, but when Claire Labine became HW, she rebooted him a lot, and through his relationships with Stone and by tying him to Lois, I thought they brought out a much better side of him.

Once upon a time, he had a circle of friends, instead of sitting in his brooding fiefdom with his employees and apologists.

by Anonymousreply 33801/11/2013

I know, R336. They worked so hard at creating fragile and vulnerable personas for Sonny and Jason to hide behind. Poor Sonny was beaten by his stepfather, he was paranoid, claustrophobic (so he couldn't stand going to jail), and went through horrible black spells until his BPD got treated.

Jason was the noble warrior with a heart of gold. Too bad he always had his head up his ass.

I respect TG for being honest about Luke. Who he is can be summed up in the fact that rather than work for a living, he put his teen sister to work on a street corner to support him.

by Anonymousreply 33901/11/2013

For all the familiar wonderful faces gracing GH, Frank's comment about Luke and Sonny is why I can't stand Frank and Ron's GH - it's too sentimental and contrived. I HATED the final episode of OLTL where Viki Sleestack was reading this horribly inauthentic speech about why soap operas matter. Frank and Ron make it all too fucking comfortable and inoffensive. I am sick of it. They bring back amazing characters like Tina Lord and Heather Webber and turn them into the worst kind of gay cliche - either ditzy or psychotic, completely undermining the original glories of both characters. Sure Tina was camp in the 80s but it was real camp because it wasn't WRITTEN as camp. Tina took her life very seriously. The dramas that happened to her became camp because of the delightfully glamorous and earnest way Andrea Evans played that character. Ron just doesn't GET IT. He has to be IN on the joke and as a result what comes out of his characters mouths is already pre-conceived as some kind of witty off the wall line when in fact it becomes highly predictable and dilutes any sense of conflict in the scenes. True, Bob Guza's GH was just as unpleasant to watch as Ron and Frank's, in a different way though because Guza's vision was so unrelentingly intense and claustrophobic, it became a joke over time. I think the best time for GH was the late 80s - it was a naturalistic ensemble, the stories were strong but the actors were allowed to breathe in scenes, to improv, to create a physical environment. Now... the show is like watching Ron assemble his toy soldiers. I just can't cope with the artifice anymore.

by Anonymousreply 34001/11/2013

I completely agree, R340.

I dislike movies and television shows that pre-determine the emotion I'm supposed to feel when I'm watching. Everything Cartooni does is contrived to make me feel emotions I might not choose to feel.

Even FV's statement about those nasty guys with good hearts is emotionally manipulative. It made me dislike him even more than I did before.

I like your word, "inauthentic." It fits perfectly.

by Anonymousreply 34101/11/2013
Frank's comment about Luke and Sonny is why I can't stand Frank and Ron's GH - it's too sentimental and contrived

I love soaps with heart. That's why I watched Claire Labine's GH. I think the fit for Carlivati at GH is far better than at OLTL.

I agree, though, R340 - his motivation choices for women are a bit questionable. He does fine with characters already defined. With ones he has to make up an identity for, or define further...well, that's another question. Kate/Connie and Olivia are two examples.

by Anonymousreply 34201/11/2013

Here's THE GH that i MISS - little Robin clings to Anna after becoming disturbed by the braces on Bobbie's legs (after an accident) Watch how the actors play this. They were allowed such freedom. It feels like real life and yet the characters are all equipped enough to play heightened reality as well:

by Anonymousreply 34301/11/2013

R342, Carlivati's writing at GH is pure seat of your pants. There's no continuity, no plan or direction a story is going to take. They start, they stop, they stall, then they creak forward, taking sharp turns that make no sense and having characters do things they would never do.

Most of his stories feel like a vehicle that's lost its brakes going down a mountainside. God only knows where they're going to land, and I don't mean that in a good way.

The worst stories he drags on forever, like this Connie/Kate DID thing. It's simply dreadful.

His writing for women is execrable, as if they are an alien species he has never before encountered.

by Anonymousreply 34401/11/2013

Actually, Frank's prize is a weekend of partying with the Alderson family.

by Anonymousreply 34501/11/2013

The idea that GH now has heart is laughable. Most of Carlivati's writing now and on OLTL is/was incredibly superficial. Granted, there were moments here and there on OLTL, but his writing never did elicit any true *feeling*. Any heart left in OLTL was due to the actors like Sleestak, Woods, Strasser, etc and the relationships that were already in place.

by Anonymousreply 34601/11/2013

The Aldersons. That's a great example of the problem at GH.

Who in the hell would look at Kristen Alderson and decide she was: (a) attractive enough to be lead on a TV show; (b) had any acting ability; or (c) had marketable singing and dancing talent?

It's mind-boggling.

The scenes of Michael and Starr screwing last week were like watching two slugs mate.

by Anonymousreply 34701/11/2013

r340, to be fair, Andrea Evans last stint as Tina before the end was eons better than the 2008 return. It actually appeared that someone did finally "get" that something was wrong and fixed it.

Wait, are they having Bovina do more of her singing on GH?

When Kassie makes guest appearances, does she get to sing any of her country ditties?

Yes.

No.

R350 - on this case you should haved answered Nono

by Anonymousreply 35101/11/2013

I just had a thought. Maybe they could turn this "Lucy thinks McBain is Caleb, stabs him" thing into a regular feature. First up, David Vickers comes to Port Charles to shoot Vicker-Man III. Monica thinks he's Pierce Dorman, stabs him.

by Anonymousreply 35201/11/2013

It would be a quick way to get rid of characters we don't like. Don't know that I'd start with David Vickers. Carly and Sam is where I'd start, maybe move on to Sonny, Michael and Luke.
And Viki's speech on the second to last day of OLTL was genius.
Fuck you for not understanding what that word means.

by Anonymousreply 35501/11/2013

And fuck you for hanging on Tony Geary's every idiotic word just because he can't get a role anywhere else to suit the "darkness" in his transplanted Dutch soul, r355. What he did to his character should have been shut down over a decade ago and everyone but you knows it.

by Anonymousreply 35601/11/2013

Geary is the only genius in this discussion. He single handedly saved GH. Now if you want them to do to him what they did to Roger Howarth's Todd, turn him into some kind of neutered buffoon, that's strictly your limitation. What you claim is "pathos and humanity" is strictly a sentimental lightweight excuse not to push the envelope. Frank and Ron are like Ellen Wheeler over at Guiding Light - they come in with a cavalcade of enthusiasm and over confidence in their own sense of brilliance but really these stories are being created from adrenaline. It's ALL affectation.

by Anonymousreply 35701/11/2013

I agree with r354. There was an evolution of Luke's character back in Monty's day that Geary all but helped to dismantle after the Bill Eckart fiasco. When we saw Luke return with Laura in the 90s, that was where Luke should have been. But Geary kept whining and whining about the stories Luke was given - even though it was (and I am disputing r354 on this point) Geary's own IDEA to bring back Luke and Laura after it was clear the Bill Eckart character was a total flop (even when they tried to pair Bill with Luke's former leading lady Emma Samms). Geary chucked the idea of the Frank Smith redux story to top brass, won them over and saved himself from the unemployment line. Of course, it meant that ABC had to force Francis out of a job she loved (over at AMC/LOVING) to come back to a role she was finished with. GH can survive without Geary (and MB for that matter) - I have no idea why the network has given this man so much privilege to do as he wanted. He's coasted that rare 80s international phenomenon phase too long.

by Anonymousreply 36101/11/2013

r37 - the majority of message boards are filled with satisfied fans, the ratings are the best they have been in over a decade, the New York Post even listed the show as one of the top 5 to watch in 2013 ... Ellen Wheeler wishes she could have been Frank Valentini.

by Anonymousreply 36201/11/2013

Mayor of Port Charles, family man Luke Spencer was not Luke Spencer. The man who whored out his sister and forced himself on a confused young married woman is Luke Spencer. There is nothing wrong with Tony Geary wanting to portray the character honestly.

by Anonymousreply 36301/11/2013
There is nothing wrong with Tony Geary wanting to portray the character honestly.

Agreed but he became beyond tiresome years if not decades ago. Villains are best served fresh and need a comeuppance. He should have been gone rather than attempt to reform him.

by Anonymousreply 36401/11/2013

I was going to post, but I'll wait until the TG fangurl at R362 goes away.

by Anonymousreply 36601/11/2013

WOAH r365 I know its Friday, but did you start the weekend celebration a little early?

Tone it down.

This is a discussion of a soap opera. A soap opera. This isn't nuclear war being discussed. Or even Democrats vs Republicans politics.

PS YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOUT! We can hear you just fine.

Psychopaths don't find redemption, ever. There's problem one.

Genie's coming back:

by Anonymousreply 36901/11/2013

R369, already covered. See R213 and R253.

by Anonymousreply 37001/11/2013

Luke is not a psychopath.

And Tony Geary began betraying Luke when he started in with Luke the lovable hooker-tossing, kid-mauling drunk crap. It's been a slow slide into pathetic for years. That may be his perception of the character he WISHES he'd been playing for decades, but the fact is the show did not back that up. It was revisionist history designed to soothe his bruised ego.

Luke has a dark side, for sure, but it is not as pitch black as TG desperately wanted it to be. The Luke of the '80s and 90s loved and adored his family, and rose above his roots and his darkness to become a better man. Like it or not, that is the Luke that Geary will end up playing again this year. Enjoy.

by Anonymousreply 37101/11/2013

This is why daytime has gone to the gutter and Tony takes so many vacations - you all just want safe viewing. You don't want the events on screen to slug you in the head or the heart. You want lightweight SHIT.

by Anonymousreply 37201/11/2013

I get that Geary doesn't want to play Neutered, Bland Soap Dude.

But he's chafed against a lot of what Claire Labine wrote for him - yet it was really those years that extended Luke's life as a character. Otherwise he would have been a played out thug years ago.

He had a long run of being a quirky anti hero and his pairing with Tracy was the best thing to happen to both characters for years.

But Luke needs to reconnect with other characters and be supporting for a while. The story where he killed his own grandson by accident, and then made it alllllll about him - alienated a lot of GH fans. He has to do some time in the corner and reconnect with people so they can forgive him and move on to the next chapter.

by Anonymousreply 37301/11/2013
You don't want the events on screen to slug you in the head or the heart. You want lightweight SHIT.

No. And don't put words in our mouths.

Earth shattering, impactful story is one thing. Characters repeatedly making the same mistake, falling down the same hole and/or repeating the same asinine behavior is NOT fun to watch and not a favor for that character in the long run.

Perhaps you're unfamiliar with soap opera. Let me educate you. Long term characters are best served when they experience ups and downs, and don't do the same thing all the time. Audience get completely bored. They take vacations like Miss Geary (although I doubt they get to ride uncut Dutch cock like Miss Geary does).

I'm sure a legendary talent like Lady Geary could make even opening his wrists with a rusty razor an Emmy award winning moment, but perhaps BALANCE is what is called for her.

by Anonymousreply 37401/11/2013

R373, those are the 'fans' we want to get rid of. Fraus. Fuck em!

by Anonymousreply 37501/11/2013

Lady Geary? You are one bitter queen.

by Anonymousreply 37601/11/2013

No, Mr. Geary at r372, we don't. We all like dark, complex stories in all sorts of TV shows. But there's a point when a character is mutilated beyond all recognition and it just becomes a sad joke of an old man trying way, way too hard to look hip and edgy.

There was a balance to be struck with Luke between the loving, evolved family man and the darker side of his nature. They hit on that well in the mid-1990s shortly after Bob Guza took over, particularly with the revisit of the rape, which was a great, raw story. But eventually both Guza and Geary took it way too far.

TG's fatal mistake, alongside Bob Guza, was letting his ego and his cable habits overwrite the actual character, whose integrity he began really violating around ten years ago. Few viewers out there would call the Luke of today anything but a joke. He doesn't compare to Doug Marland or Harding Lemay's layered, nuanced characters, or even to the Luke Guza and Labine wrote in the 1990s. And certainly not to the characters on hit cable shows Tony wishes he had a shot at playing.

Luke is Luke. He is both good and evil, but he was always far better than this sad caricature TG has made him into to pretend he's still an "artist" as a soap lifer. They took it too far, and now it's time to dial it back to something more sane and mature. Tony's angry teen on Medicare phase is over.

by Anonymousreply 38201/11/2013

My favorite thing about the Jake fiasco was TG defiantly insisting that even though Luke has been on a drinking binge since before the Iraq war and ran down his grandson, Luke is NOT, repeat NOT a drunk. Okay, Tony.

by Anonymousreply 38301/11/2013

"Luke fantasizes they will live happily ever after, but he knows better. He knows Laura is still young. He's about ten years older, which is a big difference in that age group. Any man who has had a relationship with a younger woman--and probably the same thing goes for a woman loving a younger man--knows the younger person has to go through a lot to be with them. There's a clock in the back of Luke's mind saying that the time is going to come when Laura will wonder what she's missed, and she'll try to regain it." Reprinted in Daytime TV: TV Superstars: Soap Opera's Greatest Stories, March 1982

"I feel great about [switching from Bill back to Luke]. I did that new character and I basically didn't want to do Luke without Laura." Soap Opera Weekly, November 2, 1993

"With Luke and Laura, the stakes have to be very high--there has to be an adversary. These aren't characters who sit around talking about their relationship. These are eccentric characters who drive the plot." TV Times (a section of the Los Angeles Times), January 2, 1994

"Luke and Laura have a life force of their own. They've lived in the audience's hearts [for the past decade], without our even wearing the clothes. So it's sort of like picking up where we left off." TV Times (a section of the Los Angeles Times), January 2, 1994

"They've been together for ten years, they have a child, they've lived under very precarious circumstances which, rather than driving them further apart, helped them get closer. Even after ten years, given their history, I don't think Luke goes to bed each night without hoping that in the morning, she still loves him." Daytime TV, March 1994

"What we're trying to do is make our old friends who are coming back to the show feel at home again. Hopefully, we can also bring back some fond memories of where you were ten to fifteen years ago. Maybe that was a happier time for you. I hope through our continuity, we can establish a kind of touchstone of wonderful feelings that you can all relate to." Daytime TV, March 1994, on the return of Luke and Laura

"Luke is not a hyphenated character." Soap Opera Digest, Spring 1996

by Anonymousreply 38401/11/2013

"Before I give my prognosis, I'd say my hope is a lot more trouble because that's been a lot more fun to play. Genie and I sort of make our marks with the edgier, more emotional material. We do it well, and it also rings true for these characters. What doesn't ring true for them is a happy, contented home life. That doesn't work for us. The prognosis itself? Dangerous, but not critical. I think it will be worked out in the end, but I don't know if the feelings that have been stirred up from this will ever be resolved. Just like life, you can forgive and love and go on, but sometimes you never forget. It does affect the future, and it should--this was a major event in their lives. I don't think we can ever just walk on happily into the sunset again without looking over our shoulders." Soap Opera Magazine, November 19, 1996, on the revelation that Laura has a Cassadine son

"The history of the characters is where the richness lies. You can bring new characters in, but it's always best to bring them in through the history of the character. Bob Guza, who was here briefly to lay this story out for us with Stefan Cassadine, was a dialogue writer way back during that first runaway story. He always got the characters because he was there as they were being created. He was able to say, hey, you guys have really been wasted here, so we're going to dip into the history. I think he came up with gold. I'm real happy with any time they can keep the history of the characters alive. I really think the audience is far more interested because that connects to their own history. At the same time, you've got to keep moving forward. There are plenty of stories yet to play with new villains. One of my favorite villains ever on GH was Faison. Anders Hove, a Danish actor, was just a wonderful actor. He made Faison a fascinating and very dark villain--the kind of villain audiences love. He was very attractive and very sexy. I'd love to see that character pop up again. When you deal with Luke and Laura, you need to take a broader brush stroke because there's room for it. It's soap opera, not soap pen pals. Look at your queen bitches of daytime--it's all about taking characters that are really sort of out there. The Lukes and the Lauras, the Erica Kanes--every show has them. You've got to crank them up a couple of notches so you get something other than infidelities to deal with. Otherwise, every show is the same. I'm all for new villains as long as they fit the franchise. Soap Opera Magazine, November 19, 1996

"Yes, I would. Why not? I'm not into politically correct. When it comes to the theatre, as I told you, I think it should be disturbing. I know the network would never do it today, but of course I would.... They backpedaled like crazy. They never expected the audience to respond to Luke's side of it like they did. It annoys me that people portray this as if we outraged the audience. We didn't do that. We did a rape, and the audience fell in love with Luke. That wasn't our fault. Nobody was trying to denigrate women or put one over on anybody--that's rewriting history. The audience responded to Luke and his pain. Gloria (Monty, GH's executive producer at the time) wasn't afraid of that. She was a woman who believed-she didn't go to focus groups--she believed in 'I'll lead the audience, not follow them.' That's the way I feel, too. When you start following the audience, the tail is wagging the dog. You bet I'd do it again--in a flash. It's a great dramatic moment. But I don't think anybody else has got the courage to do it again." Soap Opera Magazine, November 19, 1996, on whether he'd do the rape scene today

"I sure didn't. I had no concept. I don't really think 15 years in advance, but the marriage seemed like a good idea at the time. Luke had wanted Laura for a long time, so it was a great relief to him." Soap Opera Update, November 26, 1996, on whether he thought L&L would stay married for 15 years

General Hospital” is red hot again thanks in large part to Frank Valentini, who became the show’s executive producer in 2012. He has brought back beloved actors, including Genie Francis, and is bringing back the show’s traditional Nurses Ball. His former soap, “One Life to Live” has just been resurrected as an online series. As a sign of ABC’s renewed confidence in the show, Valentini and several GH cast members were invited to participate in ABC’s Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour. At the TCA party, he spoke about Francis’s return, whether the OLTL web series will impact GH’s casting, and teased an upcoming storyline for the currently backburnered Liz Webber.

Q: This has been the best week to be a soap fan in a long time. “All My Children” and ” One Life to Live” came back from the dead. “Days of Our Lives” was renewed and Genie Francis came back. What made all of the decision makers suddenly realize the value of soaps?

A: It is a great time and I think a lot of people are paying attention to the good work that the existing soaps have done and said, “You know what? There’s fans out there. Let’s honor them.” I don’t think it’s just happening by accident and hopefully we’re riding a nice wave of ratings and good publicity and we’re able to continue the upward surge so we can try new things and branch out a little more.

Q: Is it bittersweet that ‘One Life to Live’ is continuing without your involvement?

A: I’m not sure bittersweet’s the right word. I’m really excited for all my friends in New York and excited for the show and for new life to be breathed back in to those two shows. I talked to [series creator] Agnes [Nixon] last week. She was really excited that her babies have been brought back to life.

Q: Can you talk about the situation with the former “One Life to Live” characters who are on “General Hospital”? Can Prospect Park demand the return of Todd and John and force you to write them off?

A: I can’t really talk about that because there’s a lot of legalese involved in that. But everything’s going to work out. I know it’s all going to be great.

Q: What can we expect from Genie Francis’s return?

A: You can expect a lot of surprises and a lot of fun. I met with Genie. She looks gorgeous. She’s excited to be back. We wanted to show that we were ready to embrace her back into the family. We’ve got a great story. She’s going to be back with a nice big secret. It’s going to be a lot of fun.

Q: Jon Lindstrom is also coming back as Kevin.

A: Yes. Jon Lindstrom is taping today. I’m really excited to work with him. I’ve always thought he was a great actor. We have some really fun stuff with him and Lucy (Lynn Herring) that the audience is going to be really excited about.

Q: How do you feel about Steve Burton joining the cast of “The Young & the Restless”?

A: I wish him all the best.

Q: Can you give us a preview of February sweeps?

A: For the February sweeps we’ll be teeing up to the nurses ball which will start at the end of March into the anniversary which is April 1. Slightly in contrast to what’s happened in the past, where it was sort of a one-off event, the Nurses Ball will be weaved into story. Big things will happen at the nurse’s ball. And it will go for more than one day.

Q: So February will everyone be planning the ball?

A: They’ll be planning which is: how are they going to pull it off? The money just got pulled. Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) and Patrick (Jason Thompson) are working together and what’s going to happen with that? A lot of good questions will be answered.

Q: Speaking of Sabrina, she’s a character that has been somewhat polarizing, as you’re probably aware.

A: No. I thought everybody liked her.

"Luke flirted with her, and she was Laura's shopping partner. For three months, the audience saw her as a woman. It was very dramatic and very risky at the time. The audience was just shocked and horrified and delighted and thrilled when she took the wig off." Soap Opera Update, November 26, 1996, on Sally/Max, the hitman in the Left-Handed Boy storyline

"[Genie] really came back as a favor to take me away. I was chomping at the bit to get out." Soap Opera Update, November 26, 1996, on the couple's departure in 1983

"The roots of these characters are so deep and solid and understood by us. They were created by both Doug Marland and Gloria Monty, who really cared. They built an extraordinary foundation. I could play Luke till I drop dead--and probably will--and there will still be things to play based on that foundation, those roots. And that's really lovely. I see that in Genie every time we do scenes about motherhood--where Laura comes from is always present in Luke's mind." TV Guide website, May 14, 1997

"I don't like to be Luke without Laura. She is his heart and his humanity. I don't want a major storyline without her.... I don't want another romance. I'd rather lay low in Genie's absence and protect the Spencer franchise. She's the only woman for Luke. They're not going to do any affairs--we're not going down any of those usual roads. He can flirt with everybody--and he does, shamelessly--but the man is not going to violate those vows. No way. The marriage will be on hold, and I'm OK with that as long as we've got the family. She's got part of the family--Lesley and Lesley Lu--in one place, and I've got Lucky here, so we'll never close that door. There's plenty of stuff to do. I can always support other storylines. I'm not that concerned about it. Hopefully, Genie will do what she needs to do for her family and still want to come back." TV Guide website, May 14, 1997

"I don't like to do Luke without Laura. She is his heart and his humanity. I don't want another romance. I'd rather lay low in Genie's absence and protect the Spencer franchise." TV Guide on May 17, 1997

"One of the wonderful things especially with ABC 15 years ago was that Genie and I can do other things and they won't kill off the characters. Luke and Laura are sort of permanent staples of American daytime. How bad can that be?" Soap Opera News, June 3, 1997

"When the infamous rape occurred, Genie was 16 or 17. They'd never do that scene today because it is much too controversial. The audience responded not only to her pain but to Luke's. So we had two people victimized by one person's passion and obsession. That story wouldn't be done today. Those roots were so politically incorrect, I try to hang onto them in these politically correct times. It's difficult in drama to be politically correct because conflict is the basis of drama. We all have conflicts. What would life be without them, without insults and unacceptable behavior? Hurt feelings are part of everyone's life." Soap Opera News, June 3, 1997

"I like the fact he is a one-woman man. He may flirt shamelessly, but he'd never be unfaithful to Laura. I'd never want him to be. In a way, it is more difficult to keep a marriage alive on a soap opera than in real life. As soon as a soap couple is happy together, it's over. But we've kept the conflicts alive. Laura is an angel to Luke, the greatest thing that ever happened to him. Luke couldn't be better." Soap Opera News June 3, 1997

"I don't have to justify it. I believed it from the beginning. I don't have a problem with it starting with a rape. That's obviously a question from a politically correct point of view. I'm not saddled with that point of view. I thought it was obviously dramatically perfect." Soap Opera News on June 10, 1997

"The night of his inauguration, he's all alone in the mayor's mansion and walks out onto the balcony. I shudder just remembering the moment. It was a wonderful scene of a man who had reached a dream and finds it empty.... It was very touching because Genie and I were both fully in character. Even after we rehearsed it, we stayed in character." Soap Opera News, June 10, 1997, on his most memorable scene with Genie

"The writers are responsible for the highly romanticized relationship. No tips." Soap Opera News, June 10, 1997

"It was played as a rape, desperate and dirty, and then there was a quick rush to rewrite it as a seduction. By the way, it was also child molestation--Laura was only 17 at the time--but that was never talked about. My biggest concern is that we don't rewrite it again to make it politically correct. Any man who takes a woman's body by force to make himself feel better is a monster. And we need to deal with that.... If Laura were here, there'd be an awful lot of talk. Instead, we have Luke alone on the edge of the abyss in an existential crisis--and that's my favorite place to work from. But if they can get Genie to come back--and believe me, they're begging--there can be a very powerful second level to this. After all, Laura is the one who fell in love with her rapist. That's an even more dangerous story to tell." TV Guide, March 7, 1998

Q: Some people feel that she has a storyline that should rightfully be Liz’s, in that Robin was Liz’s best friend but Sabrina’s the one saving the nurse’s ball and getting involved with Patrick.

A: But that’s just wrong because Liz and Patrick are like brother and sister. It would be creepy if they were together. Liz has a new love interest on the horizon.

Q: Who?

A: You’ve got to wait and see. It’s someone who’s on the canvas right now.

Q: Are his initials A.J.?

A: No.

Q: People love Liz and there is concern about her storyline.

A: I love Liz. I love Becky [Herbst]. She’s fantastic. But something needs to be built. I think that character’s been bounced around. She’s got three different children from three different men. If she’s going to say, “I love you” to somebody, it’s got to be real and it’s got to mean something. She’s not going to jump right into it. That’s not who she is. I think everyone’s forgotten a little bit what makes Liz the character you most identify with and most want to be. Becky’s got the acting chops to pull it off if you go through every step of the relationship.

by Anonymousreply 38801/11/2013

Please, Mr. Geary, do not re-post your every publicized quote. The thread needs the space and let's face it, they start to get a little pathetic and self-serving around 2003.

by Anonymousreply 38901/11/2013

Damn you Frank, you've sabotaged my Geary quotes.

by Anonymousreply 39001/11/2013

We have a Lady Geary troll AND a Bob Guza troll. Wonders truly never cease.

by Anonymousreply 39101/11/2013

The bickering and flame war going on in this thread is the type of thing that got soap threads banned here in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 39201/11/2013

I feel like there's a lot of hateful bitterness towards Tony Geary in this thread - then again I can understand why you find an intellectual, alpha male, maverick non-conformist threatening. My criticisms of Frank and Ron have been constructive.

by Anonymousreply 39301/11/2013
then again I can understand why you find an intellectual, alpha male, maverick non-conformist threatening.

Wow.

by Anonymousreply 39401/11/2013

Actually, R393, I'm not really bitter re: Tony. He's immensely talented. He's part of a very well known and well appreciated pairing, and he's just as good outside of that pairing.

But GH has been depressingly dark for more than a decade. Cartini have their shortcomings, but it finally feels more like the GH many of us knew and loved in years past.

And I don't begrudge Tony his desire to keep his character intact and interesting. I do have a problem with the times where Luke and/or Sonny have so wholly eaten the narrative of the show, and/or colored the mood, that it completely eclipsed everything else.

by Anonymousreply 39501/11/2013

I can only say I'm glad I was checked out when Courtney the Hulk was working as a stripper.

by Anonymousreply 39601/11/2013

Frank didn't know how polarizing Sabrina is? Good grief. People have been shouting it from the internet rooftops! Her name should be changed to Mary Suebrina for crissakes.

I'm honestly surprised because overall I've felt that Cartini has a better pulse on what the fans want.

But then again, this is an original character created by them. I suppose it's not out of the realm of possibility that he and Ron know how fans feel, but don't want to admit that they penned a dud.

I would take Britt over Sabrina any day. At least there's something compelling to watch about a schemer, even if Britt isn't a very good one. Watching Sabrina squeak and bubble through her flower fielded fantasies of Patrick is nauseating when it's not boring.

Sabrina is the Taylor Swift of General Hospital: Bland beyond compare.

by Anonymousreply 39701/11/2013

TG is playing Luke for the rotten to the core son of a bitch that Luke really is. The fairytale romance, the action hero, that is BizarroLuke, that isn't who Luke Spencer is. As said upthread, Luke is a mob guy who whores out his sister and rapes women. The Luke all the fans want is the fake. The epic love story was a fantasy, it wasn't real. Of course he fucked around on Laura. Of course he fathered a child outside of that marriage. Luke loved the idea of Laura. Then he got her and couldn't rise above his own past and his own demons. Luke is a dark character, who does awful things and who falls into the same patterns and over and over again.

I think that is TG's point. Everyone thinks they know Luke. No sir, no m'am. He is damaged goods and that is why Tony is so good, because he is the only who gets that.

And lets talk about Laura for a minute. Laura is just as fucked up. Even if you excuse the falling in love with your rapist thing, Laura is fucked up.

The epic fairytale love story of Luke and Laura was actually the joining of two severely psychologically damaged people.

by Anonymousreply 39801/11/2013

Exactly. That's what we want. Frank and Ron don't do psychology, they do gimmicks.

by Anonymousreply 39901/11/2013

Is the epic snit fit over?

Or is this just intermission?

by Anonymousreply 40001/11/2013

Here's Principal Phelps addressing the class of Y&R 2013, all eyes on Jill because everybody wants to keep their job... I notice that Steve's sitting up next to her like the prized student.

by Anonymousreply 40101/11/2013
I love soaps with heart. That's why I watched Claire Labine's GH
I ADORED the Labine years! That's when I got back into GH, after many years away. My favorite relationship EVER, on soaps -- whether it be a romantic relationship, a parent-child relationship, a sibling-relationship, or a friendship -- was the Mac-Robin relationship, circa 1992-1996! Contentious, and mutually frustrating, at times...but at the heart of it, so very, very SWEET!

You NEVER questioned that they were absolutely devoted to each other, as the surviving members of the Scorpio-family. John J. York & Kimberly McCullough had fabulous chemistry! I'm sure many fans would shout me down, if I were to say that it was every bit as good as her chemistry with Tristsn & Finiola......but I truly believe that!

When it is revealed that Robin is actually alive.....it is Mac's reaction that I am emotionally most invested in. He was the one who held her hand through the HIV story, who didn't think he'd see her to live to age 30.....

by Anonymousreply 40201/11/2013

Also looks like he's the only one that actually dares to eat a lunch!

by Anonymousreply 40301/11/2013

Gotta love Jessica Collins' big wide smile and eyes--I have seen that look turned towards bosses in the corporate world and it works. She's going to displace The Stafford as the leading lady of the show.

Where is Nick, Victor, Nikki in that picture? I couldn't pick them out.

by Anonymousreply 40401/11/2013

Prospect Park has made a deal with the Writers' Guild. AMC stars are re-signing by the truckload and only Jerry Ver Dorn has signed from OLTL. WIll AMC and OLTL revivals actually happen?

by Anonymousreply 40501/11/2013

It doesn't look like Braeden or MTS deigned to show up, r404. I also couldn't see Jeanne Cooper.

by Anonymousreply 40601/11/2013

They all look terrified don't they? I wonder why Muhney's wearing a hoodie indoors though? Christian's giving Steve the stink eye from across the table.

by Anonymousreply 40701/11/2013

I'm not optimistic about Prospect Park. I know Agnes made a big dramatic statement about the shows returning but the old girl's getting on a bit.

by Anonymousreply 40801/11/2013

Steve's got some balls sitting up front.

Michael Muhney is a drama queen of the highest order. And the rest of the Y&R stars are serious egos who throw it around. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

by Anonymousreply 40901/11/2013

They are getting AMC off the ground before they start on OLTL.

by Anonymousreply 41001/11/2013

MM in the hoodie is just really odd.

by Anonymousreply 41101/11/2013

I love how Steve doesn't give a fuck and is digging into his lunch. Everybody else looks like it's the first day of school, and what's hilarious is that this is THEIR turf and Jill and Steve are supposed to be the newcomers. LOL

by Anonymousreply 41201/11/2013

That bloated steroid case is going to make friends all over.

by Anonymousreply 41301/11/2013

I'm surprised this thread hasn't been shit-canned given the histrionics.

by Anonymousreply 41401/12/2013
MM in the hoodie is just really odd.

He can wear his hoodie like that when I'm on my knees in front of him, sucking on his big torpedo cock.....

by Anonymousreply 41501/12/2013

My friend used to hook up with Michael Muhney and she confirms that yes he does have a big cock. About 7, but coke bottle thick.

by Anonymousreply 41601/12/2013

Awesome, R416. He had an obvious case of BDF to me. I think he's super sexy.

by Anonymousreply 41701/12/2013

r410, if that's true, it's a big mistake. There is more interest in OLTL.

by Anonymousreply 41801/12/2013

R418 I don't disagree. But for whatever reason AMC had a higher fee so money talks....

I also think they may need time to negotiate what's going to happen with the OLTL characters on GH.

by Anonymousreply 41901/12/2013

I smell disaster all over this.

by Anonymousreply 42001/12/2013

That picture speaks volumes. Burton's sitting literally on JFP's right-hand side, chowing down on a sandwich without a care in the world.

MM with the hoodie drawn looks like a sullen teen ager having to sit on the couch and be lectured by parents.

CL looking at Burton, possibly thinking that this is unbelievable.

Everyone else looking at JFP like she's Billy Mumy in that episode of the Twilight Zone.

by Anonymousreply 42101/12/2013

R421 Oooh, you're right. Body language is very telling.

by Anonymousreply 42201/12/2013

Steve doesn't have a care in the world. He is making $10,000 per episode with a 3 day a week guarantee. He also has it in his contract that his scenes are always shot first. So he's in and out. He is about to get a front burner story on the number one soap. He is about to sign a deal with Sony on his Telenovela. He is very close with his boss. He has a solid fanbase, his wife and kids neatly tucked away and a pretty little side piece. The guys is on top of the world.

by Anonymousreply 42301/12/2013

R423 And so much fuss made over someone who doesn't merit any of it.

So many more talented people at Y&R, and JFP is making Steve "I've Had The Same Haircut for 20 Years And Can't Act My Way Out Of A Paper Bag" Burton the star of the show.

Well, in six months Y&R will look like all of Jill's other shows. I hope Jess Walton, Michelle Stafford and Melody Thomas Scott all have their resumes handy. Jill doesn't much care for women of a certain age.....

by Anonymousreply 42401/12/2013

Steve gorging down a sandwich during a cast meeting - when everyone else is not eating - just shows what an ignorant, rude, selfish douche he really is. He looks like a spoiled little brat.

by Anonymousreply 42601/12/2013

Lol, r423, none of what you listed sounds exciting in any way. If that's the top of the world for Burton then his ambitions are pretty blah.

by Anonymousreply 42701/12/2013

I'm thinking they are going to try this PP thing with AMC. If it works, then they will follow with a OLTL reboot. It's almost as if AMC is the lesser of the two, so if it is a dismal failure, no one will care.

by Anonymousreply 42801/12/2013

r425 - you are definitely someone I do NOT want to know.

by Anonymousreply 42901/12/2013
Steve gorging down a sandwich during a cast meeting - when everyone else is not eating - just shows what an ignorant, rude, selfish douche he really is. He looks like a spoiled little brat.

But he's Christ's chosen one! Don't you know Christ wants you to be rich and gorge yourself on food?

I bet he'll bring Michelle Stafford and Sharon Case over to our side and win them for Jesus before the spring flowers bloom!

by Anonymousreply 43001/12/2013

R423 - The Christian Boy has a side piece??? Spill please. Besides the 10,000 per episode, nothing else is that great in the list. Will he be selling his Super juice?

by Anonymousreply 43101/12/2013

Voiceover:

"This episode of Young and Restless is brought to you by....Monavie...a more meaningful life! And by...the Church of Scientology. We've been the experts at making people believe gay celebrities are straight for over 40 years!"

by Anonymousreply 43201/12/2013
The Christian Boy has a side piece??? Spill please.

He's been the unofficial third in Becky Herbst's marriage for a very long time, and is thought to have fathered at least one of her children.

At least that's how I remember it.

Becky's husband is also Steve's Brother-in-Christ.

by Anonymousreply 43301/12/2013
He's been the unofficial third in Becky Herbst's marriage for a very long time, and is thought to have fathered at least one of her children.

GAY GASP!!!!!!!!!!! I had no idea.

So Liz's portrayer is as slutty IRL as Liz is on screen? Wow, who knew.

by Anonymousreply 43401/12/2013

Oh my. I hope the title of this thread is enough to keep its content from appearing as a google search result. Otherwise, batten down the hatches.

by Anonymousreply 43501/12/2013

Who is that beside Christian Leblanc? Daniel Goddard or Billy Miller? He looks like he just got up.

by Anonymousreply 43601/12/2013

Grain of salt but I heard that AMC and OLTL will alternate 13 week arcs.

Bad idea if you ask me

by Anonymousreply 43701/12/2013

Steve Burton will be in multiple versions of the Y&R opening credits by next week - bet your ass on it.

by Anonymousreply 43801/12/2013

R433

A soap mag even said Steve had his own room at Becky/Michael's house.

Supposedly this was because they lived closer to the studio. He'd stay there when he was working. I'm pretty sure he'll be bunking with them while he'd in LA.

R434

Not really a slut. Her husband knows about the situation. He has his male side piece while she has Steve.

by Anonymousreply 43901/12/2013

Can someone explain the fuss about Steve B to me? Is it a straight frau thing?

I get that he's blandly handsome, but honestly, I don't understand why everyone's got their panties in a wad over him.

by Anonymousreply 44001/12/2013

Steve is fucking James Franco's ex assistant who is now in PR at E!

by Anonymousreply 44101/12/2013

R440

He does nothing for me either. He's out of shape with a bad hairstyle. He has no tone or definition and wouldn't get a second glance in a gay club.

Add in his banal personality and I also don't get the attraction.

by Anonymousreply 44201/12/2013

I can't wait until Steve begins shutting down Eric Braeden in scenes. He's not everyone's type, but a lot of people really go in for that ubermasculinity that Steve projects.

by Anonymousreply 44301/12/2013

R443

Ubermasculinity?

LMAO!

by Anonymousreply 44401/12/2013
I'm surprised this thread hasn't been shit-canned given the histrionics.

Exactly. Tone this shit down! We don't do fan worship/warring fanbases here. Keep it light, please.

by Anonymousreply 44501/12/2013

Steve is naturally very skinny and he has a high pitched voice. Not exactly the paradigm of masculinity one makes him out to be.

by Anonymousreply 44601/12/2013

I always interpret those who project ubermasculinity as actually having none.

by Anonymousreply 44701/12/2013

Anyone have a scoop on what Laura's return story will be?

by Anonymousreply 44801/12/2013

It's really hard to take Geary seriously after he claimed to have had an affair with his fag hag Elizabeth Taylor. That was just a couple of years ago where a man his age shouldn't be still trying to project a het image.

by Anonymousreply 44901/12/2013

Cady McClain, who appears to be back on Dick Street again and is still involved with Jon Lindstrom IRL, just tweeted that his first airdate is January 30th and is "uber-romantic".

by Anonymousreply 45001/12/2013
I always interpret those who project ubermasculinity as actually having none.

It's just another form of drag, albeit at the other end of the spectrum

by Anonymousreply 45101/12/2013

R449

Geary has been strictly into dick for 30+ years. I always heard he was bisexual during the 70s.

Perhaps that explains the Liz Taylor dailiance.

He's so closed off about his private life I find it hard to believe he'd make it up. It would serve what purpose?

by Anonymousreply 45201/12/2013

I'm pretty fucking gay, but I would have thrown some dick up into Liz Taylor, just to say that I did.

by Anonymousreply 45301/12/2013

Robert Scorpio. Now THAT's a MAN!

by Anonymousreply 45401/12/2013

This thread is weirdly compelling.

by Anonymousreply 45501/12/2013

Cady McClain and Jon Lindstrom got married recently, before Christmas I think. As for Geary and Liz Taylor - I think a lot of ambitious gay actors would throw Liz Taylor a bone if they thought it would advance their career. I think Geary had a real big ego and thought he was on his way to the big screen.

by Anonymousreply 45601/12/2013

Tony did do amazing work in the Oscar nominated Disorderlies with Golden Globe nominated stars The Fat Boys.

by Anonymousreply 45701/12/2013

Back in 1982 there was a special called "Night of a Hundred Stars" and I remember a huge groan when Geary showed up as number 100. Everyone was saying we can thank Elizabeth Taylor for that.

by Anonymousreply 45801/12/2013

Look at this lovely Anna/Robin montage:

by Anonymousreply 45901/12/2013

Liz mentioned her dalliance with TG in her own book.

by Anonymousreply 46001/12/2013

For the love of all that is holy, let GH keep those damn characters. An OLTL reboot does not need to start with the same showkillers who helped dragged the show down over the previous couple years, especially the most horrendous character to ever ride the grease train into Llanview - John McBain.

by Anonymousreply 46101/12/2013

Hear, hear, r461!

John McBain is the LAST thing a re-booted Llanview needs - keep him far away!

Nor do we need Bovina and her annoying acting and singing.

Todd is tricky because I know he's considered by many an essential part of OLTL. Personally, I have never been fond of the character and have usually found him pretty tiresome, especially as played by Howarth, so I would be just fine having him not included in a new OLTL.

My dream would be a show where the driving engines of the storylines are Viki, Dorian, and Tina!

by Anonymousreply 46201/12/2013

OLTL was thriving long before scarface joined the show. If Prospect Park is smart, they will bring back Fiona Hutchison as Gabrielle Medina permanently. Tina needs her screen partner. that is, if Andrea Evans returns as I hope she will.

by Anonymousreply 46301/12/2013

Tina and Maria Roberts - lovely scene:

by Anonymousreply 46401/12/2013

the 80s were the best.

by Anonymousreply 46501/12/2013

Unfortunately, unless there is some creative scheduling, I doubt Andrea would commute from LA to Connecticut for this. That's a shame because I would love her to be part of it.

If any of these people think priorities of a reboot involve a McBain, a Starr, a Ford, or a Rex /Gigi, I want absolutely no part of it.

If I don't hear the names Sleestak, Strasser or Woods/Smith, then the show is doomed.

by Anonymousreply 46601/12/2013

r462, the last part is a lovely wish and I actually agree, but realistically, no show is going to focus on 2 actresses over 60 and one over 50.

by Anonymousreply 46701/12/2013
If Prospect Park is smart, they will bring back Fiona Hutchison as Gabrielle Medina permanently.

Err, weren't you watching at the end? Gabrielle was CONFIRMED (for a change!) dead, as she was shown to be an angel in heaven along with Luna and Megan. Pretty hard to back out of that one...

by Anonymousreply 46801/12/2013

r468, Jesse on AMC was an angel in heaven too - and look what happened there.

by Anonymousreply 46901/12/2013

I want Gabrielle back. She should never have been killed off.

by Anonymousreply 47001/12/2013

Did Tristan eat Liz's pussy? She was flirting with him big time in their scene together years ago on GH, as the outtakes show.

by Anonymousreply 47101/12/2013

disgusting pervert at 471. Liz flirted with everyone, that doesn't mean she forced them to kiss her crotch in a literal way.

by Anonymousreply 47201/12/2013

I volunteered!

by Anonymousreply 47301/12/2013

YES, r463, I forgot Gabrielle - she should be back as well!

r468, there is an easy way to fix that - just say that the kinder, gentler Gabrielle from the early '00s and later seen in heaven, was actually Gabrielle's heretofore-unknown good twin, who made it her life mission to come to Llanview and right her sister's past wrongs by taking over her identity. (Let's be honest - would the REAL Gabrielle Medina ever have fallen in love with Bo Buchanan?)

It was the good twin who died and went to heaven, and we now find out that the real Gabrielle has been hiding out all these years and ready to return with her scheming nature intact! Producers, are you listening??

by Anonymousreply 47401/12/2013
Cady McClain, who appears to be back on Dick Street

I love you, bish! This made me laugh.

R456 I think they just got engaged.

by Anonymousreply 47501/12/2013
Nor do we need Bovina and her annoying acting and singing

Yeah. No Aldersons, please. Recast both roles or keep Starr away and recast Matthew with someone who looks less like Napoleon Dynamite.

I'm surprised the Andrew Triscuit troll hasn't surfaced - or the TSJ one, for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 47601/12/2013

Is this about the Suzanne Sugarbaker Programme?

by Anonymousreply 47701/12/2013

When did Cady McClain not travel on Dick Street?

Now this I want to hear. On her old website she confessed quite a crush on Michael E. Knight, to the point where she showed up at his wedding (to Catherine Hicks?), depressed, late, and sat in the last row.

by Anonymousreply 47801/12/2013
I'm surprised the Andrew Triscuit troll hasn't surfaced - or the TSJ one, for that matter.

They have! They're on the Prospect Park thread.

by Anonymousreply 47901/12/2013

[R462] Todd is tricky because I know he's considered by many an essential part of OLTL. Personally, I have never been fond of the character and have usually found him pretty tiresome, especially as played by Howarth, so I would be just fine having him not included in a new OLTL.

Roger is far more entertaining at GH.

In a perfect world, Roger would be at GH and Trevor would agree to come back for OLTL 2.0.

by Anonymousreply 48001/12/2013

whoops, that first paragraph shoulda been a quote of R462's.

Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 48101/12/2013

I think Todd being perpetually frontburner hurt OLTL as much as it helped it in its last decade. TSJ is entertaining (well, he was sort of over it and phoning it in the last few years) but the fact that the audience was supposed to root for him became very polarizing, since he did ghastly things liked giving away babies and killing people.

by Anonymousreply 48201/12/2013

TSJ phoned it in constantly. I'd feel shortchanged if I had to put up with asshole Victor full time without Todd to counterbalance him. They work best together. Victor on his own became intolerable.

by Anonymousreply 48301/12/2013

I want to see TSJ and Michael Muhney wrestling in baby oil.

*yum*

by Anonymousreply 48401/12/2013

Maybe R484 can arrange that, leaving out those of us who aren't interested in watching two sexless men.

by Anonymousreply 48501/12/2013

Redeeming Todd and making him the focus of the show drastically changed OLTL, and not for the better.

by Anonymousreply 48601/12/2013

NLG on twitter:

Nancy Lee Grahn ‏@NancyLeeGrahn Congrats Mo @mauricebenardmb U needed this win. I know how upset u were about ur boyfriend quitting u to go to Y&R.

by Anonymousreply 48701/13/2013

Holy shit, the tweet at R487 is funny no matter which way you interpret it

by Anonymousreply 48801/13/2013

What win is she talking about?

by Anonymousreply 48901/13/2013

Apparently Maurice Bernard is a S.F. 49ers fan; Grahn is a Packers fan. The 49ers beat the Packers today.

by Anonymousreply 49001/13/2013
I'm surprised the Andrew Triscuit troll hasn't surfaced - or the TSJ one, for that matter.

Oh I'm still here. Just don't have anything to say about him anymore. Still trying to figure out GH. Now that I am on that one, I don't think I could enjoy watching internet episodes of OLTL.

by Anonymousreply 49101/13/2013

I don't see how watching internet-based episodes are really any different than watching on ABC's homepage or on youtube, which many people did. As if it's not stating the obvious, I will still say it's the QUALITY that matters. Only a select group will watch because of their dedication to the shows. Most will need to see a commitment to good story and good characters to stick with it, let alone pay for it.

by Anonymousreply 49201/13/2013

All these characters returning to Port Charles, and not one lonely, salt-of-the-earth diner owner.

Just sayin'.

by Anonymousreply 49301/13/2013

That NLG tweet is the funniest thing I've seen in forever.

by Anonymousreply 49401/13/2013

The budget to produce OLTL and AMC was 80 million per year, and that was nothing compared to the budgets the soaps got during the 90s and early 00s.

Most people are expecting AMC and OLTL to look like it did when it went off. That is not going to happen. Expect a Peapack look and sound, done in a Connecticut studio. When people see the PP versions of these soaps, written by people they don't recognize, etc. it is going to be a non stop bitch fest.

All I'm saying is go in with the lowest of low expectations. And don't be surprised when people don't willingly pay for soaps that they were getting for free.

by Anonymousreply 49501/13/2013

R486, there's something creepy about how "evil" Todd was. I hated the redemption storyline with the little kids vouching for Todd, that was an absolute low point in soap history.

by Anonymousreply 49601/13/2013

It's fantastic that Prospect will strip AMC and OLTL right back down to an almost 1950s soap opera environment - we'll be able to see characters having coffee dates in somebody's kitchen for the first time in forever!!!!

by Anonymousreply 49701/13/2013

Initially, Todd was sociopathic, almost psychotic. He was the type you just knew tortured little birds or cats in the backyard when he was a kid. Serial killer in the making.

Then he just became misunderstood, angry and edgy.

Now he's just a metrosexual buffoon.

by Anonymousreply 49801/13/2013

Thom Racina has been named a co-HW for OLTL's relaunch

by Anonymousreply 49901/13/2013

Will they pull a Guiding Light and just shoot on location? Ellen Wheeler did it for Cinema Verite' reasons BUT it must have been cheaper?

by Anonymousreply 50001/13/2013

Bring back Jackie Templeton

by Anonymousreply 50101/13/2013

Who, r499?

by Anonymousreply 50201/13/2013

Susan Bedsow Horgan and Thom Racina are co-head writers for OLTL. I have to say I am a tad excited about this team - Pepperman, Horgan, and Racina. Horgan was OLTL's EP from 1994-1996 and wrote for OLTL/ATWT and Racina wrote for DOOL/ATWT.

by Anonymousreply 50301/13/2013

Loanne at R493, I'm all for you coming back if you bring your old flame Jake Meyer with you.

I don't know what Sam Behrens has been up to, but it looks like he's still married to Shari Belafone.

by Anonymousreply 50401/13/2013

Todd becoming the Sonny of OLTL definitely hurt the show.

by Anonymousreply 50501/13/2013

Any word on a HW for AMC? Will it be Lorraine Broderick? I heard that Donna Swajeski and James Harmon Brown, both of whom had a hand in killing the show, were possibilities. I also read that MAB wanted to be part of this, whether as showrunner or HW. Ginger Smith is showrunner, so will MAB become HW?

"When they said, “Kim, we are going to be in Peapack now when we tape Guiding Light, what did you immediately think?

KIM:

Well, the fact that we were still at the studio in Manhattan at that point made it OK then. Because what we were led to believe was that Peapack was just going to be used for establishing shots and seeing people walking around the town of Springfield. Then, it became more and more obvious, that we were spending more time in Peapack and it was obviously cheaper. All of those kids were non-union who worked behind-the-scenes…the camera people and the sound people. The show was getting around a lot of things because Peapack was out of the New York City jurisdiction. So when it started becoming a regular thing and we were moving into this house… that became scary. There were no dressing rooms to escape to so you could be by yourself. That was bad, that was really bad. And as I said, for someone who is older, you want to have a space. You want to have a refrigerator with wine in it! (Laughs)"

by Anonymousreply 50701/13/2013

While still skeptical this will really come off the ground, I'm in complete agreement with r492. The quality will be what makes or breaks these online versions of AMC and OLTL.

This will not be the high definition, lush shows that were airing on ABC just before cancellation. They will not have the money for lavish wardrobes, if any wardrobe.

They will not have as many sets. And those sets may very likely look like they are sets

In short, these shows will likely look like soaps did in the early 70s when actors brought clothes from home to wear on the show (except for special occasions like weddings) and the sets often looked like they'd fall over if you sneezed hard (check out some 1960s era soaps on YouTube).

If they writers come up with good stories, that won't matter a bit. But if the story is lacking, the folks who are cheering for these internet versions the most will be the ones complaining about the cheap sets, unimpressive wardrobes and dull storylines.

by Anonymousreply 50801/13/2013

The new writers they've apparently hired for PP-AMC and OLTL are certainly impressive.

by Anonymousreply 50901/13/2013
Ellen Wheeler did it for Cinema Verite' reasons

Wheeler did it because CBS cut the budget for the show by 40% and assumed Wheeler and the team would say they couldn't make the show. She'd been planning for it for years.
In short, these shows will likely look like soaps did in the early 70s when actors brought clothes from home to wear on the show (except for special occasions like weddings) and the sets often looked like they'd fall over if you sneezed hard (check out some 1960s era soaps on YouTube).

That's gonna be most soaps, soon.

Truer words were never spoken...

by Anonymousreply 51001/13/2013

It's good too that Pepperman and Horgan actually know OLTL fairly well.

by Anonymousreply 51101/13/2013
Todd becoming the Sonny of OLTL definitely hurt the show

Very true. Which is why I laugh at all the non OL-watching GH fans who love Todd and are so happy Sonny has taken a backseat. If Roger sticks around (and really, where the hell else is he gonna go?) he and Bovina will swallow the show as much as Mo and Steve ever did.

by Anonymousreply 51201/13/2013

I've heard it said, more than once, that true soap fans would be happy with good story and good dialogue even if it was presented in front of blank background.

by Anonymousreply 51301/13/2013

Actually, if they're bringing back actors from 30 years ago, they can start with Jimmy Lee. I was about 12 years old and quickly found out what an erection was.

by Anonymousreply 51401/13/2013

"It's fantastic that Prospect will strip AMC and OLTL right back down to an almost 1950s soap opera environment - we'll be able to see characters having coffee dates in somebody's kitchen for the first time in forever!!!!"

My thoughts EXACTLY! Let's get back to the kitchen table roots of daytime! I wasn't watching OLTL for the sets and costumes, for God's sake!

by Anonymousreply 51501/13/2013
There were no dressing rooms to escape to so you could be by yourself. That was bad, that was really bad. And as I said, for someone who is older, you want to have a space. You want to have a refrigerator with wine in it!

I always wondered why Kim looked like a fat, bloated old drunk in the last few months of GL.

She was, in fact, a fat bloated old drunk. And apparently, one who had so throughly pissed off the hair and makeup people that they'd stopped helping her in any way.....

by Anonymousreply 51601/13/2013
I wasn't watching OLTL for the sets and costumes, for God's sake!

That's all that has me tuning into Downton these days.

by Anonymousreply 51701/13/2013

Steve Bond was just so juicy, a juicy little Hebrew. Where is he these days? They should have Jimmy Lee and a son of his come home to stir things up for the Qs. Tracy and he never met, and he wasn't even mentioned in Edward's will.

by Anonymousreply 51801/13/2013

Thom Racina is best known for being co-head writer at GH and DAYS in their glory days. He was at GH for Luke and Laura from 1981-1984 and DAYS from 1984-86.

Susan Bedsow Horgan was a breakdown writer at OLTL from 1988 to '96, and became executive producer after Linda Gottlieb from 1994 to '96.

by Anonymousreply 51901/13/2013

Hulu showed 1960s-era Another World episodes a few years back, and I was amazed by the scenes' leisurely pace. Women would sit at the kitchen table and chat about all kinds of things. I thought I'd be bored out of my mind, but I was fascinated because watching these conversations felt more like eavesdropping on real life situations than what passes for soap today. It was so mundane, but I loved it.

Had Ada or Mark McKinnon (in the 80s) ever comforted a weeping ingenue over the recent resurrection of a husband whom all had believed was alive because of a twin who'd taken his place, well, I might have enjoyed that too. Just to see Connie's spin on it.

I'm all for kitchen table talks and real world problems and pain. I want to see angst over the death of characters who will actually remain dead. I want to see passions build and surprising chemistry that forces the writers to scramble to take advantage of unexpected pairings. I'm also hoping to see a fully-realized gay love story with all the bells and whistles. And if the soaps manage to land a cable network for reruns, I wouldn't mind hearing an F-bomb every now and then.

Thom Racina on soaps:

MY LIFE IN SOAP OPERAS

I spent 18 years doing a lot of shows–I myself wrote over 4,000 broadcast hours of television, got five Emmy nominations (Susan Lucci told me I was the Susan Lucci of writers), it was lots of work, lots of pain, lots of fun, and some memorable moments.

Here's a brief rundown of my career in daytime television, but if you have any specific questions, just email me and ask away. I always loved talking to the fans, I'm the only writer I know who regularly read the fan mail, and as I said on Donahue and Maury and other shows I appeared on as a head writer, "It's the fans who really give us our jobs."

In 1980, I think, Gloria Monty, the legendary producer of GENERAL HOSPITAL, was scared. A writer's strike was imminent and her head writer had started something called the "Ice Princess" story with a formula in it, but not much more than that. If the writers stuck, the story would go to the picket lines with them. Up to that time, I'd done a few episodes of FAMILY, the prime time Sada Thompson show that I thought was a class act, and some scripts for SEARCH FOR TOMORROW. But I was a novelist, and Jackie Smith at ABC put me together with Gloria to see if I could help generate story for the coming year or so. At dinner, I showed Gloria my novel, THE GREAT LOS ANGELES BLIZZARD, which Erwin Allen had optioned but dropped, and for the hell of it said why don't we do this? She lit up, and it became the Ice Princess story that aired, where Mikos Cassadine tried to freeze Port Charles in the summer, the first sci-fi for daytime with the highest ratings to match. I wrote a long story, sold it to them just before the strike, they miraculously did it as we marched around the studio, but when it was over I was suddenly writing the show. I did it for three years, and it was a heady time–we were on the covers of Newsweek, People, college classes were scheduled around us, and we changed the face of daytime forever.

Luke & Laura's wedding was the culmination, and we would have put it off for another year (first rule in daytime: make them wait!) but for Elizabeth Taylor, who forced us into hitching them because she wanted them to get married (she knows a thing or two about that). So we made a deal with Liz: we'll marry them if you come. I created the villainous Helena Cassadine for her, and we had a ball doing it. Tidbits: Tony and Genie loathed each other for a long while there, we had to give Tristan lines like, "If Luke were here, he'd say he loves you, Laura," because she refused to tape with him. But they patched it up. Demi Moore, whom the writers fought for because we loved her voice, drank a lot of beer very early in the morning. Rick Springfield was a cool dude, even though he'd show up after a concert in Europe smelling like European trains. It was my last-minute idea to have Scotty catch the bouquet at the wedding.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES was a wonderful experience after being fired from GH (Gloria liked to do that), I brought my former partner Leah Laiman there and we worked with Sheri Anderson and had a great time. We married Bo & Hope (I give good wedding) and created Patch, who was supposed to be on only a day, but the actor's talent knocked us out, introduced John Black when Roman left, and loved working with Gloria Loring (and being diabetic myself, applaud her great work for the JDF), and it was a trip to have "Friends & Lovers" become the number one song in the nation from our little show. Ken Corday, the producer, is a great guy, and I enjoyed every minute I worked for him, on DAYS and other projects as well.

by Anonymousreply 52101/13/2013

ANOTHER WORLD was less happy. Brooklyn, for one, a dumpy, cold studio, for seconds, and the threat of cancellation hovering overhead the whole time, and less than desirable people on the writing staff. I guess I did it for money. There were too many cooks in the kitchen, and the intrusion of the P&G people and network people made it impossible to create anything of value. However, the producer's secretary, Michelle DeVito became a friend, and helped get me through it. We married Donna and Michael, gave the talented Anne Heche her start, and very few people know this, but my buddy Brad Pitt got rejected after doing one day's shooting, which destroyed him at the time, but changed his life forever. [SEE MY BRAD PITT PAGES FOR DETAILS]

GENERATIONS introduced me to Sally Sussman, who has been my friend ever since, and someone I admire, respect and love. I thanked her mother, Judy, in SNOW ANGEL, for being one of my biggest supporters, and I miss her very much since she passed away. I loved the show, it was different, fresh, ground breaking–but NBC stuck it on the air in some markets at 3AM, so we never had a chance. But what fun we had, Elizabeth Harrower and Michele Val Jean and Sally and me, we'd be doing story and see this van go by the window and Sally would yell, "Spoon Truck!" (cause it was covered with soup spoons) and we would all just lose it. Well, you had to be there. I'm sure glad I was. It was my favorite gig ever.

I was there for the demise of SANTA BARBARA as well, but it wasn't my fault, honest. The show had never really done well, despite all the hype and awards, and it was on its last legs when I came to it a year before it was canceled. I enjoyed my time there, because I wasn't head writing and thus didn't have to take the heat. I had wanted a break, and just helped with story and did outlines. I thought the Dobsons were a looney, but Pam Long was great, and getting to know Gordon Thompson was nice too. And the three of us would work together in Toronto...

On FAMILY PASSIONS, which should be boxed and sold as 'HOW NOT TO DO A SOAP OPERA." It was Jorn Winthur's passion, and our prison. The Canadians were not ready to tackle a full hour each day, the half-German cast could barely pronounce the words, the other "head writer" was a complete incompetent moron, and the show was laughable. Pam was fired in the early days, before we even got to the studio in Canada, so Kin Shriner and Terri Smith (the great gal who did the music) came from the States to join Gordon and me to do it. We all nearly lost our minds. The show stunk, the winter was the coldest in Canada's history, and the producer, as they tend to do, took out all his aggressions on the writers. Ugh. Never again, life's too short to be treated like that. It's why I left daytime and started writing books again. But it wasn't all bad up there. I loved Toronto's vitality, and it gave me great, cherished friends, like Lucinda Sill and Diane Stead and Thomas Rickerts, which counts for more than any damned TV show in the world. Fern Field was the only sane and talented producer on the show, and she's remained one of my best buds (she's a marvelous writer as well, check out her website.)

I loved being head writer, for you get to play God and get paid for it to boot! It was a great time, and sometimes, I'll admit, when I'm feeling lonely in my newly-chosen solitary profession as a novelist, I do miss it. But I can't do both, and having a book or two on library shelves when I'm gone means a great deal. Writing books is nourishing for the soul.

Not for looooooong.......

by Anonymousreply 52401/13/2013

I like the choice of Marlene McPherson for AMC because I liked her DOOL. She DID have a lot of "long conversations between people at the kitchen table" type of scenes, and I really enjoyed her slooow build-ups. The ratings disagreed.

by Anonymousreply 52501/13/2013
I'm also hoping to see a fully-realized gay love story with all the bells and whistles.

This was the best part of the whole "Otalia" story....and the reason so many people loved it.

It was a slow burn. Lots and lots and LOTS of conversations and looking across the room, etc.

Very much a dinner table sort of story, not too many explosions, etc.

by Anonymousreply 52601/13/2013

R526, I liked Otalia except that they weren't allowed a kiss (other than the rather humorous smooch they shared with Olivia tried explaining what people thought of their relationship). Once they became a couple, they weren't allowed much intimacy. But I loved everything up until Frank and Natalia's wedding.

What I worry about, though, is that the time constraints might make the writers think every day might need an explosion. They're so afraid of losing viewers because of short attention spans. If they're willing and able to write compelling stories, though, that shouldn't be a problem.

by Anonymousreply 52701/13/2013

It will be interesting to see if PP lets Racina/Horgan do their job, gives them some goals and gets the fuck out of the way....

...or whether they think AMC and OLTL will be Royal Pains (their one major network show) and will somehow need to be nighttime-ized. In which case, we're fucked.

by Anonymousreply 52801/13/2013

Soap opera storytelling of old will never fly with today's younger audiences. Even older audience members get bored quickly. If a storyline reveal goes over two months they all start complaining of it being 'dragged out' but still want character driven stories which you cannot tell overnight. You can't win really.

by Anonymousreply 52901/13/2013

Did OLTL ever specify which political party Dorian was supposed to be a senator from?

by Anonymousreply 53001/13/2013

It was the Wig Party.

by Anonymousreply 53101/13/2013

I agree r529. The days of storytelling that made 70s/80s soaps so great are gone. The medium is different, audiences are scattered, corporate bigwigs are different. They may be able todo that kind of storytelling on isolated shows of cable, but not the big networks. Even the new DALLAS, which is more about storytelling, has to keep the audiences' interest by innovative filming techniques that resemble music videos. You just can't have a camera on the action anymore. It has to be shaking, or rolling around characters during dialogue, or be in some kind of constant motion because our attention span has been dismantled to that of a gnat.

by Anonymousreply 53201/13/2013

What a wonderful piece by Thom Racina - and nice little innocent gossip.

FAMILY PASSIONS - ugh, I remember trying to watch that mess. It was a disaster.

by Anonymousreply 53301/13/2013

There was a time when soaps were 1 scene equaled one act of the show, about 5 minutes. Now if a scene is over a minute, it is too long and boring. There were 3 stories, A B & C. Each story played out over the course of about a year. A was hot, B was simmering, C on the backburner. You can't do that anymore. All stories have to be hot, you have to play certain actors every day, stories can't last longer than 13 weeks.

by Anonymousreply 53401/13/2013

Can Kelly Osbourne get rid of the lavender hair?

by Anonymousreply 53501/13/2013

This just popped up on SON. There is a hoard of dish to be had in this upcoming book from the look of things.

Margaret Klenck (Edwina Lewis) bitches about the Buchanans. "The Texans -- I mean, I love Bobby Woods. He’s my pal. But they came in, they didn’t have theater backgrounds, they didn’t have that ethos. It wasn’t about trying to make the scenes better, or going to the director and fighting for your character. They didn’t have any of that, because they came out of Hollywood. Let me put it this way: Clint Ritchie once said to me, 'When the red light is on, I’ll talk to you.'

by Anonymousreply 53601/13/2013

I agree with Klenck. What was always so great about the NY soaps was they had wonderful, quirky theater/character actor types at their disposal for lead characters to the under-fives. These actors were able to elevate the mostly pedestrian writing. OLTL really suffered when it became all about the Buchanans.

by Anonymousreply 53701/13/2013

Yeah, everyone waxes nostalgic over the Buchanans but they were a huge clash to what had been on OLTL and most soaps before.

They were completely a response to the popularity of Dallas - as was the show "Texas" and (a few years later) as was the reinvention of GL's Lewis family as the Tulsa oil family.

I could see Phil Carey, Clint Ritchie and Bob Woods clashing with the traditional OLTL crew.

by Anonymousreply 53801/13/2013

They all hated Phil Carey because he was a total asshole. Clint Ritchie had breath that could peel the paint off a car and couldn't keep his hands to himself. Never heard much about Bob Woods except for the usual backstage power drama.

by Anonymousreply 53901/13/2013
Never heard much about Bob Woods except for the usual backstage power drama.

Rumor had it for years that he and Hillary Bailey Smith (Nora) had a falling out, although they apparently patched things up by the last year or two of OLTL.

Hillary also pissed off her fair share of costars at As The World Turns and had a nasty falling out with Colleen Zenk (Barbara) while she was there.

by Anonymousreply 54001/13/2013

Phil thought he was slumming and treated everyone like shit. That set was almost as toxic as the early 80s GH set.

by Anonymousreply 54101/13/2013

They all loved me. Or else Paul would've fired their asses.

by Anonymousreply 54201/13/2013

The Bob Woods/HBS issue was that he refused to do a reconciliation story with her, instead demanding that he get young gfs. I think HBS resented that. Plus, without him as her romantic interest, HBS had no other story. Frons was thisclose to firing her around 2007. Yes, HBS and CZP had some issues. It seems as though CZP had issues with a lot people, including Margaret Reed (Shannon). She and CZP loathed each other.

by Anonymousreply 54301/13/2013

Oh, Kristen. "Love" and "dipping their penises into" are two quite different things, dearie.

by Anonymousreply 54401/13/2013

Remember when Bob Woods got that awful facelift and filled his face with botox? Damn, he looked just like an oyster.

by Anonymousreply 54501/13/2013
Yes, HBS and CZP had some issues. It seems as though CZP had issues with a lot people, including Margaret Reed (Shannon). She and CZP loathed each other.

I think HBS and CZ's main falling out was that Colleen and Mark Pinter got together when both of them were still married. (Fuck lot of good that did Colleen).

And Margaret Reed was a fave of Marland's who ended up being treated like shit by some of the more longer tenured cast - especially HBS and CZP.

by Anonymousreply 54601/13/2013

r545, that's around the time that JFP, at Woods's demand, matched Bo with Melanie, who looked young enough to be his daughter. He looked ridiculous. He was very handsome when he first came on the show. Jackie Courtney said that all the actresses wanted to be paired with him because they thought he was so attractive.

by Anonymousreply 54701/13/2013

Bob Woods did repent in the end. In 2009 he agreed to do the Bo and Nora reunion storyline and they really went for it 100%. He hadn't looked so happy since the '90s. Their adoration for each other as people, not just characters, was obvious.

In an interview near the end of the show in 2011, he was very candid and basically confirmed all those rumors.
I woke up to the fact that it was so easy, after we were broken up on-screen for ten years, to be back together. And, the fact that the fans waited for ten years for this reunion and that they stuck by it. And then, they were so happy when it finally happened. I was so struck by that, because I kept thinking and telling them, ‘No. It’s over. Don’t you get that? Their lives have taken completely different directions. Doesn’t anybody get it but me?’ But as it turns out, I was the only guy who didn’t get it until we were re-teamed. And then I went, ‘Wow. This is like stealing money and so easy!’ This last couple of years has been really fun. We came back together and it blew me away. I could not believe it.

by Anonymousreply 54801/13/2013

Bo had a midlife crisis, got bad cosmetic surgery, diddled a girl who could be his daughter and then he went back to Nora.

by Anonymousreply 54901/14/2013

Radio podcast interview with Susan Bedsow Horgan about her past run at OLTL.

by Anonymousreply 55101/14/2013

Well, r550, there may be some truth in that.

But surely the main reason soaps declined has to do with the changes in society and the availability of non-soap TV options via cable that grew from the 1980s into the '90s and exploded after that. In the 1960s and '70s, most people only had three or four channels to choose from on TV, and all three commercial networks ran soaps on weekday afternoons, aimed at "housewives." Something to watch (or even just listen to) while they folded laundry or took care of the toddlers. People who were home in the afternoons chose their favorite shows and tuned in loyally, afraid to miss something good involving favorite characters, even when the stories moved at a snail's pace.

So today, most people (especially in the coveted demographics) can choose among hundreds of channels and have other media sources at any time of day or night.

Expensive serial daily dramas that call for long attention spans and loyalty: maybe they can survive with "on demand" and YouTube. Who knows? As a GH fan from way back newly being drawn in (via ABC on demand), I hope they don't fade away completely.

by Anonymousreply 55701/14/2013

r546 has it right about CZP. She got along with most of the cast. She and Margaret Colin were very close, but she never warmed to the other Margos and to some extent she resented the fact that her age group peers didn't respect her seniority with the show.

She, of course, loved Goutman and Sheffer who made Barbara so central to the show and gave her so many storylines.

by Anonymousreply 55801/14/2013

I only watched the last few years of ATWT, but CZP was my favorite actress on the show after Maura West. I loved Barbara's interesting mix of steely and vulnerable.

by Anonymousreply 56001/14/2013
Was Belinda Rosenberg supposed to be Gloria Monty, who was the producer/director of Secret Storm when Joan subbed?

I thought she was based on Lucy Ferri Rittenberg, who was the EP for several of the NY soaps, but Monty may have been an influence.

Mommie Dearest blended a whole lot of people into composites. Helga, Carol Ann and Greg were all composites of several people.

by Anonymousreply 56101/14/2013

In that legendary Jossip/Carolyn Hinsey thread a few years back, HBS and Catherine Hickland were outed as being Hinsey's main source of OLTL gossip. They would dial her at the drop of a hat and bitch, bitch, bitch about everyone and their mother. I seem to recall it being said they were especially rabid about Robin Strasser (not sure why).

by Anonymousreply 56201/14/2013

OMG 562...I forgot about that epic thread. Still the best thread ever on soaps.

by Anonymousreply 56301/14/2013

I can't believe Hinsey still WORKS after that thread! Or her little partner in crime, Stephanie Sloane (who apparently contracted the gift that keeps on giving from Tom Eplin.)

by Anonymousreply 56401/14/2013

Steph got the herps from Tom Eplin? Really?

Oooh! Finally! Gossip!!!

by Anonymousreply 56501/14/2013

Was Barbara Bennett a real person or a composite character? Was there such an incident where a reporter witnessed Joan beating the shit out of Christina?

by Anonymousreply 56601/14/2013

Barbara was a composite too.

I don't think that scene really happened per se, but there were reporters who supposedly saw bad behavior, and I know at some point there was a print interview where a reporter from Redbook or Ladies Home Journal was interviewed about it.

(BB is supposedly from Redbook)

by Anonymousreply 56701/14/2013

R565 yep, according that thread, he did! I remember a lot of the Digest staffers were calling her "Lays of Our Lives!"

Also on that thread was Carolyn's obsession with Cameron Matthison, whom he apparently slept with in exchange for constant good press. But when shit hit the fan at Digest, she was calling him so much that his wife had to have their number changed.

My big takeaway from that whole mess is that Carolyn Hinsey is an unhinged, racist, homophobe. Stephanie Sloane is a manipulative, two-faced, "mean girl." And Lynn Leahey was the spineless enabler who allowed them to terrorize Digest workers for decades.

Steph is now editorial director there. Those poor, poor people.

r567, was this reporter interviewed about it before or after Joan's death?

by Anonymousreply 56901/14/2013

Seems like a bunch of fraus write that magazine, chomping at the bit to copulate with the Mathisons, Burtons and Fumeros.

by Anonymousreply 57001/14/2013

Would someone please take Nancy Lee Grahn's twitter away from her! Yet another feud, this time with former GH star Jack Wagner. From SOD:

Nancy Lee Grahn's (Alexis, GH) Twitter commentary during the Golden Globes included a jab against Jack Wagner (Frisco): "Does anyone else think Bon Jovi looks like a less drunk Jack Wagner?" Wagner responded, "Morning, FYI I don't think the Nancy Grahn tweet was at all appropriate. I will address it w her if n when I see her again. Lv 2 u all." He added, "Just wanted 2 make clear wy I retweeted Nancy's tweet. So many people myself included work very hard @ their recovery. I support all of them."

Update: Grahn tweeted Wagner: "@JackWagnerhpk Obviously I had no idea u were alcoholic or in recovery. No ill will intended."

R569 This was after. I was a young gayling at the time, but I remember reading it in People or something like that.

R568 I thought Carolyn's main obsession was Thorsten Kaye. There was a list of Hinsey's posse, including Michelle Stafford, and it was assumed several of the guys, including Thorsten and Cameron, slept with her for coverage.

The Moe Eberhart comment on there was the one time in my life I actually laughed so long and so hard that I was sore AND I peed a little in my pants. It was hy-ster-ical.

by Anonymousreply 57201/14/2013

Did they really sleep with Beluga Hinsey? I thought they were just willing to let her blow them.

by Anonymousreply 57301/14/2013

R572, oh she was obsessed with him too, but as far as I can recall, no one said they had actually slept together. As for MS, she was running around the Y&R set mocking Carolyn when the Digest drama happened. And that's the thing that Carolyn can't get through her head. NONE of these people are actually her friends. They feed her gossip to get back at co-stars, or to get coverage.

Voice: Desperation and vanity lead to desperate measures, apparently!

Just remembered one other person who was stalked (in a non sexual way) by Carolyn: Lauren Koslow. Her spouse also got creeped out and had their phone number changed.

by Anonymousreply 57401/14/2013

Most of the time I love Nancy, but she has absolutely no filter (or tact) and invites a lot of unnecessary drama.

by Anonymousreply 57501/14/2013

Hinsey gave Thorsten Kaye a blow job

by Anonymousreply 57601/14/2013

Does Kin still like the homosex?

by Anonymousreply 57701/14/2013

R575, she has gained quite a reputation for drunk tweeting. Not having good filters to begin with, drinking and tweeting is a terrible combination.

by Anonymousreply 57801/14/2013

R576 I would too! I just don't understand why he'd let her. Unless he likes manly BBW's.

by Anonymousreply 57901/14/2013

I had to find and repost. Hysterical, and names many of Carolyn's obsessions....

Does someone have a copy of the Jossip thread? I would love to read it.

by Anonymousreply 58201/14/2013

I just realized you can pull it up through the wayback machine on archive.org!! Happy reading!

I love this (taken from r583's link):

Here's another juicy Carolyn Hinsey moment. Back in 2002 Joan Collins joined the cast of GL for a limited run under much publicity and a hefty salary. Well, Joan had it in her contract that she had press approval regarding who could interview her. Collins' representatives spoke to Paul Rauch, GL's EP at the time, to figure out the publicity schedule. Rauch listed off a number of people to speak to and Joan did all the press like the pro she is. The one person Rauch didn't recommend: Carolyn Hinsey. To everyone's surprise, Joan had a sit down with Hinsey and within 10 minutes shattered Hinsey's fragile self worth, Joan's opening line to Hinsey: "Well you're certainly not Beth Chamberlin are you dear?"

The next day a bottle of Dom Perignon was waiting for Joan in her dressing room from Paul Rauch with a simple tagline on the card: "Well Played"

Now it's a party! The glorious renaissance of ABC's General Hospital and the return of so many longtime favorites — Finola Hughes, Robin Mattson, Ian Buchanan, Tristan Rogers, Lynn Herring and, soon, Genie Francis — has been sheer bliss for millions of fans. But there's one thing that's been missing: Kin Shriner! Well, good news, my peeps. TV Guide Magazine can now report that Shriner will bring his beloved Scotty Baldwin character back to Port Charles on Feb. 19, just days after the arrival of Francis, his former GH wife. Will Scotty and Laura reunite romantically? Might they even remarry? Will Luke catch the bouquet? Our imagination is running wild! So far, ABC will only hint that "Scotty's arrival in town will have a ripple effect on the Spencer family." But here's some scoop from our exclusive chat with Shriner. Look for more in an upcoming issue of TV Guide Magazine.

TV Guide Magazine: Have you been sitting home, just like us, watching this parade of old-time GH stars and wondering, "Hey, what about Kin Shriner?" Shriner: I knew if I saw Lucy Coe's duck show up and I still wasn't invited that I should start to get concerned. Something's not right here! I really wanted to go back and be part of all that fun. [Head writer] Ron Carlivati has gone on record saying he's been watching GH since the Scotty and Laura days in the '70s, and you can tell he really loves bringing back that old history.

TV Guide Magazine: There are so many story possibilities for bad-boy Scotty. So many dames! Shriner: There are four or five girls in that town that are ripe for some more Scotty action. Lucy has unfinished business with me, and there's Crazy Heather, Tracy Quartermaine, Anna Devane. He was involved with all of them. And then Laura, of course. I don't know what they've got planned for me. It's very hush-hush-sweet-charlotte down there at ABC these days. Back in the old days we didn't have all this texting and googling and tweeting to spoil storylines but, still, at the Luke and Laura wedding, [exec producer] Gloria Monty kept me locked in a trailer so the secret wouldn't get out that Scotty was there to catch the bouquet. So, really, nothing's changed!

TV Guide Magazine: Nothing indeed. Despite all the secrecy, there's one thing certain about Scotty's return — Luke Spencer won't like it one damn bit! Shriner: Yeah, I don't think he'll be throwing Scotty a party. If my character showed up and was involved with Laura it would really chap Luke's hide. He would want to try and win her back, even if he has moved on with his life. This competition between them goes back 35 years so Ron has so much story to pull from. We thought the '80s at GH were wild, well, this could be even wilder. I start shooting next Tuesday [Jan. 22]. I can't wait to get my grubby hands on that script!

by Anonymousreply 58501/14/2013

I posted there several times as Frank Valentini's Swollen Jockstrap. Which of course I've also posted as here.

That man is HOT.

Reading that Carolyn Hinsey thread for the first time, and wondering - what happened to her after she was fired in August '08? Did she get other work in the soap industry?

by Anonymousreply 58701/14/2013

R587 She was, at the time, editor of both Soap Opera Weekly and part of the editorial team for Digest, where she had a weekly column.

She was fired from Weekly, a magazine that had been the respected news source but which she turned into a tabloid. She is, inexplicably, still at Digest (rumor had it that she was fired from there, too but she was not) and still writes her weekly opinion column.

She also wrote a book, "Afternoon Delight" that shamelessly steals most of its content from other older books.

She also surfaced a few times on the Joy Behar show and her appearances were hysterical. She'd try to wear something hip but she has huge man shoulders and could never carry it off.

by Anonymousreply 58801/14/2013

Geez, that Hinsey dame has a bigger appetite than me!

by Anonymousreply 58901/14/2013

Oh, and here's Carolyn's blog, with a few chins photoshopped out.

Constance McCashin, you ain't kidding! She'd snatch that bag of Bugels out of your hands, hon.

by Anonymousreply 59001/14/2013

In her delightfully batshit way, Robin Strasser has just tweeted that she has signed on for OLTL 2.0.

by Anonymousreply 59101/15/2013

Hell yeah! Break open the bubbly. La Strasser is back! Now all I need is Sleestak confirmation along with Woods and Smith.

by Anonymousreply 59201/15/2013

This thread is about to max out.

This thread has flown under the WM's suspician so I suggest we use the same tite for the next one just say Part 2.

by Anonymousreply 59301/15/2013

Some of my favorite scenes of OLTL's final days were of Viki, Dorian and Echo playing off each other

by Anonymousreply 59401/15/2013

Good idea R593 - or something similar!

by Anonymousreply 59501/15/2013

robin strasser ‏@robinstrasser

PROUD & HONORED I promised if DEFINITE-YOU'd know! "GIFT" offered & ACCEPTED:) #OLTL LIVES AGAIN thanx to FANS & PP I'm IN & GRATEFUL TY:)

by Anonymousreply 59601/15/2013

Glad to see that crazy old bird Robin Strasser will be part of OLTL 2.0.

I was afraid when she left before the end that she'd burned her bridges - but will be nice to see her onscreen again.

by Anonymousreply 59701/15/2013

She burned her bridges with Frons and the ABC brass. She has yet to piss off the people at PP.

by Anonymousreply 59801/15/2013

ABC maybe. FV had no beef with RS.

She was showing out near the end of the show and made noise about needing to leave for surgery as a ploy to get more story. He let her go (the surgery never happened) because he couldn't be bothered with her usual drama at that very taxing time - cancellation then PP, etc. OLTL could have put her back onscreen at the end if FV had had time and money. He had none.

RS is a handful but is beloved at OLTL as the crazy aunt or grandma nonetheless. FV has always known how to handle her.
