Glenn Greenwald on health care

Great article about the "revolving door" between government positions and lucrative private sector careers. I'll follow with a story about the 3 star general that now has a 7 figure payday after retiring by working for a "defense(sic)" company.

This is the essence of fascism.

Look at the comments on this article. These are (mostly) from "liberal/socialist" people.

Even someone like Glenn Greenwald, with "liberal" credentials out the ass, gets attacked every time he publishes an article critical of Obama.

Dems and Reps are the same- they love their party, and whatever their party supports, because they are too ignorant (or unwilling) to dig deeper.

If I say I'm against the wars- Iraq, Afghanistan, Drugs, Gaza- then I'm a lefty.

If I say I'm against SNAP, Social Security, and Medicare- I'm a right winger.

If I say I'm against subsidizing large corporations, agriculture and military supply companies, I'm a lefty.

If I say I'm against government control over health care, or education, or banks, I'm a right winger.

If I say that domestic spying, and murdering US (or foreign) citizens without just cause, or that the US government has become a threat to our liberties, or that the Federal Reserve is bankrupting us, then I'm a conspiracy theorist.

Do you begin to see why the people at the top- Clinton, Bush, Obama, Reid, Bohner, Pelosi, McConnell- are just corrupt moronic figureheads? Or why intelligent people have quit supporting them?

Here's an article about how the military "big brass" get jobs after they retire. The big military supply companies pay the big bucks...for big access to the decision makers.

High ranking generals and admirals earn their stars.  They earn their stripes.  Then, they earn their cash.  New research by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) found 70% of the 108 three-and-four star generals and admirals who retired between 2009 and 2011 took jobs with defense contractor or consultants.  In at least a few cases, the retirees have continued to advise the Department of Defense while on the payroll of defense contractors, suggesting the Pentagon may not always be receiving unbiased counsel.

A Boston Globe investigation revealed the number of retired three-and-four star generals and admirals moving into lucrative defense industry jobs rose from less than 50% between 1994 and 1998 to a stratospheric 80% between 2004 and 2008.

Oh, and this-

How have big banks preserved their "Too Big To Fail" status? With giant bags of money and an army of lobbyists who used to work in government, says a report to be released Tuesday by the SEIU, Campaign for America's Future and the Public Accountability Initiative.

The six biggest banks -- Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo -- employ 243 former staffers and members of Congress as in-house lobbyists and via trade associations and boutique K Street firms. That total includes 33 chiefs of staff, 54 staffers from the House Financial Services and Senate Banking committees, and 28 legislative directors.

"Many of the revolving door lobbyists were key architects of financial deregulatory legislation during their time as congressional staffers," the report notes, "including Gramm-Leach-Bliley and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act."

Too bad you have no fucking clue what the word "fascism" means. Or for that matter, "socialism".

by Anonymousreply 412/05/2012

R4, the difference between "fascist" (nominally private control of capital, as long as TPTB like you) and "socialist" (outright control by TPTB) is thinner than your cock. Both are simply facets of Communism and are predicated on the control of property by an elite while masking themselves as control by "The People".

All Reps and Dems are NOT the same. Just because Obama is a two-faced sellout - if not an outright fraud - doesn't mean all Dems are.

Greenwald is fearless in pointing out the facts and doesn't deserve the endless shit he gets from the Obama human drones.

by Anonymousreply 612/06/2012

Amen, R6.

Obama, like Bush and Clinton, should be impeached for his crimes and tried for mass murder.

by Anonymousreply 712/07/2012

It's sad that any thread, even if it is from a hardcore liberal, if it criticizes 0bama it dies.

by Anonymousreply 812/12/2012

No, just an asshat that multi-posts and kills its own.

[quote]I'll follow with a story about the 3 star general that now has a 7 figure payday after retiring by working for a "defense(sic)" company.

Why did the writer place (sic) in that sentence? Doesn't (sic) refer to a misspelling?

by Anonymousreply 1012/13/2012

Can Glenn Greenwald ever just shut up? He's the epitome of self-important logorrhea.

by Anonymousreply 1112/13/2012

I don't get why OP felt the need to use a URL shortener for his link. That isn't necessary on DataLounge; we like to see where links are going to take us.

The (sic) after defense makes me think OP is from ouside the US, since elsewhere it's spelled defence.

by Anonymousreply 1212/13/2012

Or maybe that "defense" was perceived as ironic.

by Anonymousreply 1312/13/2012

Greenwald writes for The Guardian (UK) so it may have been a notice to its readers the the spelling was correct and not an error.

by Anonymousreply 1412/13/2012

No, R13, you win a prize. A system that goes out the way to kill brown people cannot be called "defense" except ironically.

by Anonymousreply 1512/13/2012

It makes me sick that someone like G Greenwald, who has done more to point out the sickness of our foreign policy, and the hypocrisy of Obama, gets pilloried because he doesn't "toe the line".

I disagree with him on many issues, but he is brave and fearless when pointing out the evil at the heart of our government.

If you want a stark, naked, and expansive view of the evils our government has wrought over the last 10 years, Greenwald is the man. He hated Bush, but hates Obama even more for his betrayal.

But, since most people are just good little Demo-bots, never caring what they do as long as they have a (D) next to their name, it never matters.

by Anonymousreply 1612/19/2012

I think Glenn's wordiness is the result of spending his free time having to discuss The Real Housewives of _______ with his illiterate Brazilian escort. He clearly yearns for anything resembling intelligent discussion!

by Anonymousreply 1712/19/2012

Fuck off, R17

Why do sick fucktards like you always try to attack? Is it because you know you're too stupid to defend your postion?

Greenwald is a jewel. I'd fuck him for free.

It appears that any post that pisses off the webcuntress gets deleted.

Let's hope that GG's media credentials spare him the banning clitoris of the angry Webbie.

Let's see-
