Who is your favorite Joan, and why?

By request. See poll.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 11101/05/2013

Joan Rivers

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 112/02/2012

R39 is a cunt, and obviously Diane Sawyer.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 212/02/2012

Joan Bennett. For Dark Shadows.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 312/02/2012

Joan Cusack, because of the linked scene.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 412/02/2012

Joan Chen and Joan Baez. I like the first as an actress and as a beauty and the second one for her divine voice. However, if i had to pick one, i'd pick Joan Chen.

Joan Chen has been directed by some of the best directors that are out there, such as David Lynch,Bernardo Bertolucci, Oliver Stone, Ang Lee and she also has played in very very interesting movies. Moreover, she gives me a positive impression, she seems to be fair and gentle.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 512/02/2012

Joan Aiken, author of children's books.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 612/02/2012

OP: Why didn't you include Joan Rivers to your list?

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 712/02/2012

Judy B. Jones, star of children's books.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 812/02/2012

Joan Cusack

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 912/02/2012

Must I give you the reason why for Joan Crawford? As a gay guy, which I assume you are, I think it is a rhetorical question on your part.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1012/02/2012

Joan Mondale.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1112/02/2012

Joan Didion if only for "Play It As It Lays". Brilliant novel.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1212/02/2012

Joan Sutherland

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1312/02/2012

Joan Kennedy! All the women in WDC these days are hard charging career women. Where are the former-model, sad, boozy drunks?

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1412/02/2012

Joan Miro.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1512/02/2012

Roberta Joan Anderson AKA Joni Mitchell

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1612/02/2012

What about Joan Lunden?

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1712/02/2012

R4, I see your clip and raise you this one

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1812/02/2012

Joan Allen!!!!!!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 1912/02/2012

[R10] You would have to give this gay guy a reason cause I sure don't get it.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2012/02/2012

Joan P. "Joanie" Harris (née Holloway)

This is why:

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2112/02/2012

OP, why didn't you put the character "Joan" from Mad Men on????

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2212/02/2012

Joanie Caucus

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2312/02/2012

SORRY! just saw R21's post.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2412/02/2012

Uh, hello? Won't someone say me? I could really use the residuals, you know!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2512/02/2012

Joan Allen

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2612/02/2012

May I say this is the funnest thread in a long, long while?

My favorite Joan is Joan Armatrading, for her amazing and timeless music, prolificness, unwavering indepedence, and sheer fabulousness.

Everybody should listen to her music all of the time, and no, I'm not a lesbian.

More Joans could have gone on this list, but they were a tad too bland (Joan Allen and Joan Lunden), too racist (Joan Sutherland, apparently), or came to mind too late (Joan Cusack - you're fabulous too).

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2712/02/2012

You are not the OP, R27. I am. You are simply R39. :)

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2812/02/2012

Joan Collins all the way, bitches!!!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 2912/02/2012

[quote]Judy B. Jones, star of children's books.

If she really was your favorite, you'd know that it's Junie B. Jones. Her full name is Juniper Beatrice Jones.

No Judy.

Joani Loves Chachi

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 3212/02/2012

I am very much the OP, thank you very much.

I am *also* r39 from the other thread, without whom this fabulous thread wouldn't exist.

Now back to the topic at hand:

Who is more iconic - Joan of Arc, or Joan Van Ark? The poll seems to suggest the former.

But hasn't Joan Van Ark been a key player in the most important night time soap of all time? Is she not the poster child for botched plastic surgery?

I do think this puts her well above poor little Joan from France.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 3312/02/2012

Worst. Poll. Ever.

No Joan Cusack ? No Joan Rivers ?

Fail, OP & R39/OP

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 3412/02/2012

Joan Mitchell

Joan Hoover - J Edgar's drag name

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 3712/02/2012

Joan Caulfield. Very pretty. Her surname was used for Holden Caulfield, in "Catcher in the Rye"

Joan Hackett. Accomplished.

Joan Greenwood. Beautiful voice; very distinctive.

Joan Davis.Loads of laughs in her tv show, "I Married Joan"

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 3812/02/2012

Joan Cusack.

"Whatta need speech class fohr? Ya tawk foine."

More Joan Cusack support

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4012/02/2012

About Joan of Arc / Joan Van Ark, wikipedia gives us this:

"Her father named her after Joan of Arc because he was certain that she would become famous"

I can't decide if that's just wonderful on his part, or extremely tacky. Or both.

What's more, his wish was heard, granted and came true !!

Seriously, do you think JVA was employed on Dallas/Knots Landing, partly because of her recognizable yet ridiculous name?

Think about that for a minute, and then share your thoughts, please.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4112/02/2012

The person claiming to be "OP" is not. He is a non-paying member who requested this thread on the Socialist thread (he's R39 on that thread). He can have this thread hereafter but he is not, and never shall be, OP.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4212/02/2012

R42 Being OP of this foolish tread is hardly worth fighting over.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4312/02/2012

R43, I can create false anger and rivalry at the effrontery of this usurper if I wish. It is, after all, a foolish thread about which one can act foolish.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4412/02/2012

My favorite is June, June, JOAN!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4512/02/2012

r42, I am the OP fair and square.

I'm sorry you are but a worker bee who implemented what people more creative than you came up with.

You will have noticed the 'Socialist thread' deliberately asked non-paying members to come up with ideas for new threads? THOSE people are the OPs of every thread created off of that offer - not the paying members who lend a helping hand.

You clearly have a problem with the socialist idea, and if anyone is an usurper, it is you.

Too funny you had a problem with Sutherland being racist - you yourself are quite the little elitist yourself.

Consider yourself corrected.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4612/02/2012

Joan As Police Woman

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4712/02/2012

Don't fuck with me, fellas, this ain't my first time at the rodeo.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4812/02/2012

Joan Fontaine is the cuntiest, cunty cunt in the whole wide world. She hid behind those good looks and was a total bitch to her sister Olivia. Despite all that she is so fabulous and gorgeous I don't care that she's a wicked old crone!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 4912/02/2012

R39 from the other thread has the Socialist concept wrong. The OP, aka original poster, is the OP. He or she is doing the non-paying poster a favor by using his or her membership privileges. He or she is throwing crumbs at the requesting poster from the other thread.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 5012/02/2012

I kind of like R39 from the other thread. He reminds me of all my pretty, bitchy, femme, over-the-top exes who were into old films and showtunes. Kisses, R39.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 5112/02/2012

Why didn't OP include Joan Cusack?

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 5212/02/2012

"He or she is throwing crumbs at the requesting poster from the other thread"

Yes! Because you don't sound elitist at all saying that. You really understood the term 'socialist' and everything it stands for.

Well done.

See, r42 is a proxy at best. He's not the OP, never came up with anything, and is entirely exchangeable - in a creative sense.

Anyone could have done what he did (which is next to nothing), while I had the idea of this thread. And that makes me - the original poster.

Secondly, thanks for the thumbs up, r51. Isn't it charming how envious some people can get at an ORIGINAL idea?

Let me close by quoting Peggy Noonan: "Savor!"

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 5312/02/2012

Joan Davis

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 5412/02/2012

More love for Joan Jett!!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 5512/02/2012

The poll needed Joan Sutherland. Why is she not included?

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 5612/03/2012

Why no Joan Sutherland?

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 5712/03/2012

'50s pop star Joanie Sommers.

Joan Kennedy - first smart wife to get out of that family. Chappaquiddick, my ass!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 6012/04/2012

Another vote for Joan Bennett. Shame on you for forgetting her, OP.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 6412/04/2012

Joanie Cunningham!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 6512/04/2012

Too many decrepit eldergays voting for Joan Crawford. I thought all of that old cunt's fans were dead by now.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 6612/04/2012

R66 you'll end up old before your time if your thoughts keep on stinking.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 6712/04/2012

Back to your coffin, eldregay. The sun's coming up!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 6812/04/2012

Actually, i'm 28.

You are such an ignorant douchebag R66.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 6912/04/2012

Immediate thread fail for not including Joan Rivers

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7012/04/2012

r56: Joan Sutherland was excluded for her racist comments. Sorry. (google it, plus there is a thread about it here on DL).

r61 and r63: Joan Fontaine and Joan Crawford represent the golden era in the poll; there was no space for lesser Joans such as Blondell and Bennett. You will have to deal with that.

r70: It was a tough choice between Joan Rivers and Joan Van Ark, for that last spot. In the end, JVA persevered: see, her father knew she was going to be famous one day. I just played my part, and included her.

Joan Rivers will understand the importance of including Joan Van Ark in this poll. And so should you!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7112/04/2012

Fontaine and Crawford represent old Hollywood; Baez represents the 60s; Armatrading the singer/songwriter generation; Jett represents the MTV era; Collins stands for 80s glamour; Didion represents the intelligentsia; Chen world cinema; Arc represents world history; and Joan Van Ark represents KNOTS LANDING (!)

I couldn't be happier with this well-rounded, thoughtful, and very necessary poll.

Well done, me, for giving DL what it secretly always wanted and needed!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7212/04/2012

^^ correction: JVA represents Knots Landing AND botched plastic surgery. Very important!

THIS is why she beat Joan Rivers for that last spot. Rivers, like Valene Ewing, is the poster child for plastic surgery gone very wrong.

But unlike JVA, she is no double threat, and thus had to take the back seat.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7312/04/2012

If one reads the Socialist thread, it was OP who determined to exclude Joan Sutherland because he didn't like her being a racist. R39 from the Socialist thread, who requested this Joan thread, had to go along with OP's decision.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7412/04/2012

Its a tie for me between Crawford and Collins.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7512/04/2012

True, r74, but that still doesn't make him the OP of this thread. I pushed the Joan idea (with all options save one) on the people in the socialist thread; the usurper OP is nothing but a worker bee, whose only input is omitting Sutherland (and I acquiesced to that right away).

Funny how jealous you people get at an original idea.

To rub it in: there is now a spin-off to the Joan thread, "Who is your favorite Tom, and why".

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And flattered is the person who came up with the idea - not some guy who typed in a poll he never came up with.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7612/04/2012

God, am i the only one that voted for Joan Chen? Guys!

Wake up!

“Don’t listen to anyone’s advice. listen to yourself in the quietest time of the night: must I do this? If you must, then do it.” — Joan Chen at San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (SFIAAFF) opening night

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7712/04/2012

r77, Joan Chen is fabulous, wise, a Twin Peak icon, otherwordly, and she got to kiss Michael Ontkean.

For all those reasons I included her in the poll, and not some Joan Lunden bore.

Personally, I had to go with Joan Armatrading, the most important female musician of the last 40 years.

But Joan Chen's wisdom will stay with me forever. Thanks for reminding us!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7812/04/2012

Joan of Arc is alive and medium well.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 7912/04/2012

r57 fucks joan crawford's mumified corpse

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 8012/04/2012

Joan Prather. Now there was a girl who knew who to blow in order to keep her job. Gotta admire her for that.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 8112/04/2012

"whose only input is omitting Sutherland (and I acquiesced to that right away)"

R39 had no choice but to acquiesce to the OP's choice given that the OP had already posted the thread.

Seriously, R39, you should become a paying member. You "sound" really cute, superficial, bitchy, egotistical and self-involved, like the subject of the thread linked below. You could be the OP of some great threads. Why don't you become a paying member?

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 8212/04/2012

My Joan stinks!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 8312/04/2012

Joan of Arc, of course. She was a SAINT.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 8412/04/2012

"Why don't you become a paying member?"

r82, the answer is simple: because worker bees such as r28 are rushing to implement my ideas. There is, quite simply, no need for me to become a paying member.

And I am as self-involved as you are pedantic.

The original post on this subject was made at r39 on the socialist thread - that makes me the OP of this whole thing. Without me, we wouldn't be having this thread, nor this very discussion. I came up with the Joan poll, and 9 out of 10 options.

r28 is entirely exchangable - another worker bee would have implemented my idea, with the same outcome, but possibly with less usurpist delusions. (Needless to say, r28 caved in at r42, and was never heard of again).

Try not to be jealous that my poll idea was *attractive* to other people, and even spawned a spin-off thread.

Jealousy and pedantism make you look ugly, r82.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 8512/05/2012

What a fascinating question.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 8612/05/2012

Thanks, r86.

Joan the Fair Maid of Kent

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 8812/05/2012

Joan of Arc because she was family, but also include Joan Cusack.

Joan Rivers

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 9012/05/2012

I liked that offbeat show, Joan from Cinncinnati.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 9112/07/2012

The clear winner is Ms. JOAN CRAWFORD, followed by JOAN COLLINS and fearless JOAN of ARC!

Thanks all for participating in this very necessary poll!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 9212/07/2012

For us eldergays, Roller Derby queen Joan Weston. It wasn't a Sunday afternoon without watching Joan battle the dastardly Ann Calvello from Kezar Pavilion in Golden Gate Park.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 9312/07/2012

Joan Van Ark, of course.

Because she makes me look good by comparison

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 9412/07/2012

Joan of Arc, with the Lord to guide her, she was a sister that really cooked.

SNUBBED for the Rock Hall AGAIN?

Oh, today is a frustrating day for the Joan Jett fans.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10112/11/2012

In anticipation of next week's Oscar nominations, could a paying member please start a new thread & poll:

"Who is your favorite Sally, and why?"

Poll options should be:

Sally Field, Sally Kirkland, Sally Kellerman, Sally Ride, Sally Hawkins, Sally Jessy Raphael, Sally Struthers, Sally Deweese, Sally Ann (aka Salvation Army).

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10201/05/2013

We really need the new Sally thread !!

Could a discerning paying member please start it?

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10301/05/2013

Why don't you start it? You are the OP after all.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10401/05/2013

I'm the OP and mastermind of these wonderful - and very necessary - threads, yet I don't possess 18 dollars like you do.

So, just do your job please, and quit bitching.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10501/05/2013

Joan Davis!

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10601/05/2013

I'll start a Sally thread. You must, however, acknowledge your true role and place in the scheme of the DL before I do so. Acceptance of reality and one's own condition is the first step toward enlightenment.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10701/05/2013

I most certainly won't, r107. And you knew I wouldn't, before you went and started the Sally thread.

Once again, one of my wonderful thread ideas proved too tempting for the DL masses to resist.

It's for YOU to learn the DL rules - never contradict the STREEP TROLL (tm), for this is who I really am!

Learn it, own it, live it.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10801/05/2013

Joan Cusack was omitted to avoid a landslide.

by Jeanne d'Arcreply 10901/05/2013

The Joan and Sally threads have proved to be a great success, so we need one final thread, to give DL a trifecta.

Could a paying member *please* start a thread & POLL:

"Who is your favorite Ann(e), and why?"

Poll options should be:

Anne Boleyn, Anne Hathaway, Ann Dowd, Ann Sothern, Ann Curry, Queen Ann Romney, Evil Ann Coulter, Sinister Anne Archer, Anne of Green Gables.

Please word the poll exactly like that.

Thank you in advance !!
