Most ironic scenes in movie history.

Let's post them.

The entire film KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS is a monument to irony. Almost every scene in it is a study in irony.

This thread immediately becomes a textbook case in current ignorance in what "irony" means.

R1, for example, does not understand the difference between farce with a black edge and "irony." KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS lacks any trace of irony except in its framing and ending, but one would hardly call a de rigueur comeuppance at Mazzini's self-paid expense a fine example of irony.

For R1, a link. Sorry about the big words in it, dear.

Doesn't Whitney's character win an Oscar in "The Bodyguard"?

Agro - the scene where Afleck is told "you can teach a monkey to be a director". Actually, Ben's whole character is ironic as he directs the hostages how to behave, etc.

The Joker calls Maggie Gyllenhaal "beautiful", I think?

I always figured the Alanis song was working on a meta level. "Isn't it Ironic" was not referring to the little vignettes in the song--it was referring to the nature of the song's lyrics.

by Anonymousreply 2012/01/2012

Candice Bergen played Meg Ryan's mom in the Women? Funny how the same person played her mom in both her first and last films.
