Philharmonic (Avery Fisher) Hall take 4

How can this NY Times article on the forthcoming total renovation of the hall fail to mention that it has been torn apart and rebuilt and/or substantially renovated several times before ?

Always been a crappy hall for music. Inferior in every way.

They should tear it down and start over. They gutted it once before.

The acoustics have never been right from the day the place opened.

Shortly after the hall opened, George Szell, conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra , was asked about what he would suggest. He told them to gut it and start over. He refused to play, so took the orchestra to Carnegie Hall. Fisher is shit and it always has been.
