The Flirts (1980s Dance Group)

Anyone remember these girls--a product of sleazy NY producer Bobby Orlando (Divine's early recordings)?

I have a homemade CD of all their songs and it's really awesome workout music. Mind-numbing, repetetive rhythm tracks yet not annoying enough to drive you crazy.

Some of their best songs were New Toy (borrowed the bassline from "Like a Virgin"; Helpless (You Took My Love); Calling All Boys; You and Me; Miss You; All You Ever Think About Is Sex".

Little things remind me of you

Cheap cologne and that damn song too!

Funny--this is the only song I did NOT download since it's not really representative of their overall sound.

'Jukebox' is the only song of theirs that I remember.

"Passion" was quite popular. I think it was even sampled in a couple of dance hits from the previous decade.

Bobby Orlando was really at the forefront of that early 80's NYC Hi-NRG scene. Divine, The Flirts, even the early Pet Shop Boys... Considering he was making music which was either performed by gay men or specifically intended for gay clubs, it was a big surprise for me to read somewhere that he's a good ol' homophobe.
