Anyone want to go?
Spain offers residency to anyone buying a home worth more than $200,000...

Can government and business people stop screwing everything up? I sure the Spanish would rather suffer through this recession than face the consequences of this action. You know Chinese and Indians will be buying these homes.

You may have a point, r1. Plus tons of brits and germans, or do they even need residency when they're already in the eurozone?

Can I get a loan?
|by Anonymous||reply 3||11/19/2012|
The Spanish government also has the legal right to claim the property of all foreigners anytime it so wishes, so be careful. Only Spanish citizens are protected from a government seizure of assets.
The Spanish government has done this in the past.

Before I read R4 I was hoping this deal would last until my retirement.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||11/19/2012|
It sounded interesting until r4.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||11/19/2012|
Does it include a hot Spanish porn star as houseboy?
|by Anonymous||reply 7||11/19/2012|
That's it..I'm moving!
|by Anonymous||reply 8||11/19/2012|
Funny that they are only targeting Chinese and Russian buyers. That pretty well guarantees you they are going to seize the properties when the economy picks up.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||11/20/2012|
Whay doesn't America do this for anyone buying a home for $100,000? I would LOVE to see it. Love it.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||11/20/2012|
"When the economy picks up".
So charming, this delusion.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||11/20/2012|
Russians? I don't know...can you trust Russians? I knew one nice one. Asian, tall gorgeous and young. So sweet but most of them seem to be here because they are smart and find a way to use the system. How did they get so smart?

You're saying you knew one nice, tall, gorgeous, trustworthy, young ...Asian Russian? Say wha....?
|by Anonymous||reply 13||11/20/2012|
You can't generally trust Chinese business people, they are all smiles in person, but behind the scenes, they are pure scam artists, having said that, Russians are far, FAR worse.
Doing business with Russians is all the Chinese corruption and dishonesty, plus violence to those who do not continue to do business with the Russians. If you have to choose between the 2, pick the Chinese and just assume they are going to lie, cheat and cut corners, all while smiling at you, BUT, will not kill you if you end the relationship.

At least they're not courting the fucking Irish, R14.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||11/20/2012|
Trust me, we don't think much of you either R15.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||11/20/2012|
I'm saying I thought he was Asian American and then I heard him speaking to his Russian friend who did not know English. The Asian kid was actually Russian who spoke English without an accent. Of course I noticed him, he was extremely attractive.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||11/20/2012|
The Irish...that's another story and Americans "Que Horror!"
|by Anonymous||reply 18||11/20/2012|
Americans would just turn Spain into one big Country Music blaring Walmart store full of obese shoppers.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||11/20/2012|
r4, can you offer more information on what you have said. I am interested in living in Spain. However, I am more attracted to old Spanish property.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||11/20/2012|
Americans aren't the only ones that would do that, R19

About ten years ago a friend (who was born and raised in Austria) of my mother decided to move to the South Coast of Spain to open a resort hotel. Within two years he was back and what my mother told me it seems he was driven out of there because he wasn't well liked at all. Personally I think he's a big douchebag myself.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||11/20/2012|
Citizenship might be attractive. Residency probably not.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||11/20/2012|
No other nation listens to Country Music R21.
Country Music is (Republican White) America.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||11/20/2012|
They wont seize your property but they always raise and set special taxes for foreigners.
They figure you must be wealthy so foot the bill.
Spain is a wonderful country and the Psnaish boys muy caliente.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||11/21/2012|
Well this most certainly guarantees another season of House Hunters International.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||11/25/2012|
Canadians listen to country music.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||11/25/2012|
Tru' dat, R27. Alberta, anyone?
|by Anonymous||reply 28||11/25/2012|
America does have a similar program, R10, but it's more than $200,000. Most countries have programs that grant residency/citizenship if you invest a certain amount of money - it doesn't have to be a house.
