Rep. Allen West loses more ground to challenger after recount

Sunday, November 18, 2012

Rep. Allen West’s (R-FL) reelection prospects grew dimmer Sunday, as a partial recount showed the freshman congressman, who was already projected to lose his race, falling further behind his opponent.

Democrat Patrick Murphy gained 242 votes in St. Lucie County after a recount of early ballots there, boosting his lead to about 2,100 over West, the Tea Party favorite who made a name for himself in Washington by vociferously attacking Democrats, claiming scores of them were communists and equating them to slaveowners. The county had until noon Sunday to certify their results.

Election workers in St. Lucie county have acknowledged mistakes in the way they used vote counting machines to tab early ballots, prompting the state to send auditors to review what went wrong. On Friday, the county also announced that they’d found a box of some 300 early ballots that had somehow never been counted.

The preliminary results showed Murphy, a twenty-nine year-old political newcomer, leading West by just more than the 0.5 percent threshold necessary to avoid an automatic recount. West successfully petitioned to have early ballots double-checked, though that legal victory has now made his chances of claiming victory in the overall House race slimmer.

The state of Florida has until Tuesday to certify the results of the election, and outside of a legal Hail Mary, there is little West can do to avoid defeat. West’s campaign manager told Politico Sunday that the campaign was not over, and staffers would be reviewing vote tallies before deciding how to proceed. West has until Nov. 30 to file a lawsuit challenging the election results.

Though West has refused to concede, Murphy has already claimed victory.

This man is certified nuts. I feel terrible for his wife who must be bearing the brunt of this man's psychosis right now.

Isn't his wife the one he sent letters to saying she better be his porn star and perform the sexual acts he wanted?

Patrick Murphy's 166,223 votes (50.3%) to Allen West's 164,316 (49.7%), has resulted in Murphy having been declared the winner of the 18th District race.

Let's count 'em one more time just to be sure.

I will never give up.

"Isn't his wife the one he sent letters to saying she better be his porn star and perform the sexual acts he wanted?"

Yep

by Anonymousreply 611/18/2012

Here is more info about his nasty "porn star" letters

by Anonymousreply 711/18/2012

So what's he going to do now? Go back to teaching high schoool? Become a "consultant."

by Anonymousreply 811/18/2012

He'll be a Fox News "analyst." No one "disappears" anymore. They just become pundits, a la Gingrich and Palin.

It seems the one who is most polemic never have a difficult time finding a "news" organization to prop them up as an analyst.

"So what's he going to do now?"

Direct his wife in porno movies

by Anonymousreply 1011/19/2012

I've said this in other threads, but it bears repeating.

I'm betting he ends up having to be escorted out of the House at gunpoint when his term officially expires.

And then shows up to work in January r11.

by Anonymousreply 1211/19/2012

West conceded finally - but he didn't call his opponent which would have required dignity.

He really is a tool. Good riddance.

by Anonymousreply 1311/20/2012

I love that Patrick Murphy is just 28. That probably pisses West off, too.

Nice to get some younger guys entering Congress for a change!
