Major Garrett Named CBS Chief White House Correspondent

Bob Schieffer made the announcement on Sunday's "Face The Nation." The position had been left vacant since Norah O'Donnell became a host on "CBS This Morning." Garrett had been a frequent contributor to CBS' 2012 coverage.

Didn't he used to work for Faux News?

He has an obligation to the gods of humor to name his son Minor.

When he's been on as a guest, they all act like he's some kind of brilliant analyst -- but he always sounds fairly routine to me. Strictly inside the Beltway, chasing the gaffes like the Washington press corps does -- why do they think this counts as news or analysis?

I don't get his appeal. There's no depth to him. Plus, he seems smarmy.

I find him less repulsive than both Chuck Todd and David Gregory, that's for sure.

He's actually been very fair and insightful since he left Fox News. I see him as a guest on Chris Matthews' show all the time. I like him.
