The Heat will be THE movie comedy of 2013

Melissa McCarthy has become one of comedy's IT girls, and the nation is still rooting for Sandra Bullock in the wake of her humiliating divorce. This will clean up at the box office, and there will be countless news articles on how women CAN open a picture.

by Anonymousreply 12709/11/2014

This looks hilarious, but I'm pissed that Sandy cut her hair.

by Anonymousreply 111/17/2012

I wonder what the energy is like on the set of Mike and Molly. McCarthy is now sort of this movie star and the rest of the cast are all TV "people." The only one with movie cred at all is Swoozie Kurtz and that is negligible. Do you think everyone gets along?

by Anonymousreply 311/17/2012

Let's not go nuts.

by Anonymousreply 511/17/2012

Hahahahaha

by Anonymousreply 611/17/2012

Yes, but I "dated" Bobby Deen! Doesn't that count for anything?

by Anonymousreply 711/17/2012

This looks Awesome!

by Anonymousreply 811/17/2012

It's on my to do list for 2013.

by Anonymousreply 1011/17/2012

She actually did cut her hair. It was at its longest it's been in years during the whole Jesse James thing, but then she cut into it not long after. There's photos of her carrying baby Louis around where it's noticibly shorter.

by Anonymousreply 1111/18/2012

long hair on wimmen is not flattering. it makes most wimmen look drawn and haggard.

by Anonymousreply 1211/18/2012

I saw Bullock and FBI and immediately thought Miss Congeniality 3.

I think Identity Thief oddly looks like the better McCarthy comedy for next year.

by Anonymousreply 1311/18/2012

I normally hate broad comedies, but that looks pretty damn funny. I hear Melissa M is total cunt, but damn that chick is funny.

by Anonymousreply 1411/18/2012

Entourage the Movie will be.

by Anonymousreply 1511/18/2012

I hope Melissa shits in a sink again, now that's real comedy!

by Anonymousreply 1611/18/2012

Sandy hasn't cut her hair since HOPE FLOATS. She's wearing a wig plus some CGI in this picture.

by Anonymousreply 1711/18/2012

I have trouble with that Melissa gal. She's got a nasty streak that shows even in her sitcom. I have never found the Bullock gal the least bit attractive or funny. She always reminds of a square jawed shrew, plus she's old as the hills.

by Anonymousreply 1911/18/2012

I'm gay and male. Women are and un-acquired taste for me. Why would I get excited about a movie starring two women? What has happened to DataLounge?

by Anonymousreply 2011/18/2012

Doesn't look funny. Seems like it's trying to be 'outrageous' to be next year's Bridesmaids.

by Anonymousreply 2111/18/2012

I'm still in awe of the knowledge that Melissa and Jenny McCarthy are actually cousins lol. I never would have guessed had it not been confirmed by Jenny.

by Anonymousreply 2311/18/2012

What's your point, R22?

by Anonymousreply 2411/18/2012

[quote]So, basically Melissa is playing the same part she played in Bridesmaids, which she is also playing in that other movie she's in with Jason Bateman where she plays a nut who steals identities. That's pretty much it for her, isn't it?

That's okay. I've been playing the same part in every movie for nearly 30 years!

by Anonymousreply 2511/18/2012

George Clooney plays himself AND gets Oscars for it!

by Anonymousreply 2611/18/2012

[quote]Sandy hasn't cut her hair since HOPE FLOATS

Actually, she has. It's shorter on CRASH than HOPE FLOATS.

by Anonymousreply 2711/18/2012

These kind of boasting declarations very often backlash, OP.

by Anonymousreply 2811/18/2012

R11, Sandra Bullock's hair is still long. She filmed THE HEAT over summer 2012.

Look at photos of her last week in New Orleans - her hair is still quite long.

by Anonymousreply 2911/18/2012

Yes! Sandy's hair is still long! Thank goodness!

by Anonymousreply 3011/18/2012

Seriously, OP? This looks terrible.

by Anonymousreply 3111/18/2012

Here is the red band trailer for "THE HEAT"

Sandra Bullock's performance seems funny, but Melissa McCarthy's line readings are AWFUL!

by Anonymousreply 3212/20/2012

I read the script to "Imogene", the new movie starring Kristen Wiig, after her big hit "Bridesmaids", and it is hilarious. I think it will be a smash.

by Anonymousreply 3312/22/2012

"THE HEAT" originally was supposed to open in April 2013, but FOX pushed it to June 28 because the early screenings have gone well. The studio thinks it will be a major hit.

by Anonymousreply 3402/24/2013

It looks cute where was it filmed?

by Anonymousreply 3502/24/2013

It was filmed in Boston.

by Anonymousreply 3602/24/2013

Imogene looks fab - can't wait.

by Anonymousreply 3702/24/2013

Sandra has a lovely head of hair, but I'm dying to see her in a short, sophisticated, more age-appropriate cut.

Am I alone?

by Anonymousreply 3802/24/2013

[r38]: yes.

by Anonymousreply 3902/24/2013

This look is adorable.

by Anonymousreply 4002/24/2013

SONY expects "The Heat" to be a box office hit. FOX pushed the film's release date to summer, and it already has started prepping a sequel. Early screenings have been positive.

Recent red band trailer:

by Anonymousreply 4106/09/2013

In the posters and trailer, they just say "Bullock" and "McCarthy". Fair enough, you hear "Bullock" you would think of Sandra Bullock. "McCarthy"? Dont think Melissa McCarthy would jump into peoples mind right away. She's not in that league no matter how much they market it that way.

by Anonymousreply 4206/09/2013

Anyone else see it? I laughed my ass off. Soooo much funnier than "This Is The End." And it's got Taran Killam from Saturday Night Live. AND a clip from DL fave "Foul Play" and an albino! Definitely one of the best I've seen this summer.

by Anonymousreply 4306/29/2013

I thought it was Charlie McCarthy R42.

But then I'm really, really old.

by Anonymousreply 4406/29/2013

The one scene where McCarthy said "maybe ... maybe" to the guy in the club had me on the floor.

by Anonymousreply 4606/29/2013

Can the studio PR shills please keep the hell off of Datalounge and trying to make their picture happen?

TIA.

by Anonymousreply 4706/29/2013

r47: the "picture" is happening. It'll probably gross over 40 million on its opening weekend.

by Anonymousreply 4806/29/2013

I saw it yesterday. It was funny as hell.

by Anonymousreply 4906/29/2013

[all posts by ham-fisted troll a removed.]

by Anonymousreply 5006/29/2013

I just saw "Identity Thief" on cable and it was a lot funnier than I expected. I think McCarthy is the kind of actress who has the kind of chemistry that clicks with a lot of actors, both male and female.

by Anonymousreply 5106/29/2013

McCarthy is the Totie Fields of her generation.

by Anonymousreply 5206/29/2013

[quote]and there will be countless news articles on how women CAN open a picture.

As if hey never have before? AND in buddy movies as well...

by Anonymousreply 5306/29/2013

who are the retarded posters babbling about bullock's hair lenght? talk about losers and MARY'S!

is the wiig new movie another 2 and a half hour-long "comedy"? holy shit, BM was a drag!

by Anonymousreply 5406/29/2013

[quote]So, basically Melissa is playing the same part she played in Bridesmaids, which she is also playing in that other movie she's in with Jason Bateman where she plays a nut who steals identities. That's pretty much it for her, isn't it?

Not really. if anything, Bullock is the one repeating honors:

[quote]Uptight FBI special agent Sarah Ashburn is paired with testy Boston cop Shannon Mullins in order to take down a ruthless drug lord. The hitch: neither woman has ever had a partner -- or a friend for that matter.

by Anonymousreply 5506/29/2013

It's funny, r53, I did think of Bette Midler and Shelley Long in "Outrageous Fortune" at one point during the movie. But Bette would never allow her character to be as disgusting as McCarthy does.

by Anonymousreply 5606/29/2013

I loathed this movie. McCarthy plays possibly the most unpleasant character in the history of film. And the movie is disgustingly, violently misandrist. A repulsive waste of film.

by Anonymousreply 5706/30/2013

[quote]So, basically Melissa is playing the same part she played in Bridesmaids, which she is also playing in that other movie she's in with Jason Bateman where she plays a nut who steals identities. That's pretty much it for her, isn't it?

Nope. Have you seen Gilmore Girls?

by Anonymousreply 5806/30/2013

[quote]who are the retarded posters babbling about bullock's hair lenght? talk about losers and MARY'S!

Lenght? You're probably bald AND a retard.

by Anonymousreply 5906/30/2013

The scene where Melissa gives head to Sandra and she comes on her face was hysterical.

by Anonymousreply 6006/30/2013

I'm wondering about the Mike and Molly situation too. Melissa is pretty much a movie star now. How long does she stick with television?

by Anonymousreply 6106/30/2013

[quote]Sandra has a lovely head of hair, but I'm dying to see her in a short, sophisticated, more age-appropriate cut. Am I alone?

Yes. I want this length again...

by Anonymousreply 6206/30/2013

I miss her bad eyebrows and eagerness to eat corn.

by Anonymousreply 6306/30/2013

Joey McIntyre was really hot.

by Anonymousreply 6406/30/2013

Fucking hilarious. Loved it.

by Anonymousreply 6506/30/2013

It opened bigger than expected. Biggest openings for Bullock and McCarthy. The word of mouth is also going to be amazing. The audience I saw it with ate it up.

by Anonymousreply 6606/30/2013

I thought that was Joey McIntyre! He has amazing eyes.

by Anonymousreply 6706/30/2013

Saw it yesterday. Lots and lots of audience laughter throughout. First comedy in a long time that wasn't ruined for me by seeing all the funny moments in the trailer because the trailer didn't show even a quarter of the really good stuff.

The guy with the beautiful eyes is Michael McDonald from "Mad TV." Gay, right?

by Anonymousreply 6807/01/2013

what do you mean long hair isn't age appropriate?

by Anonymousreply 6907/01/2013

Bullock is looking great!

by Anonymousreply 7007/01/2013

You cunts need to get over the fact that Melissa mcCarthy is a major movie star. She can open pictures. It's already made back it's budget, topped a Brad Pitt blockbuster, a Channing Tatum blockbuster AND a super hero movie, and has great word of mouth.

Deal with it.

by Anonymousreply 7107/01/2013

Has anyone checked on Lauren Graham this morning?

by Anonymousreply 7207/01/2013

It's really great that an overweight woman over 40 is becoming a bankable commodity in Hollywood. Enough with the anorexic stick insects.

by Anonymousreply 7307/01/2013

R23, I would pleasantly disagree with you. I think Melissa McCarthy, even w/ perhaps 100 lbs on Jenny (NOT being sizeist; am very overweight myself), looks a LOT like her, in the face. Take a closer look...

by Anonymousreply 7407/01/2013

Glasses can be so sexy. Especially like women in glasses.

by Anonymousreply 7607/01/2013

r73

Can't we find a middle ground?

by Anonymousreply 7707/01/2013

[quote]I'm wondering about the Mike and Molly situation too. Melissa is pretty much a movie star now. How long does she stick with television?

Probably as long as she wants. She has kids and might not want to travel all over right now. Three camera sitcoms are great for Mothers. 9 to 3 weekdays with a tape night, she can be home when the kids get home from school, and take them along in the summer for a film.

by Anonymousreply 7807/01/2013

[quote]Make no mistake, this is McCarthy's movie. She is now 2 for 2 this year in films that "experts" thought would tank.

No one thought The Heat would tank. It was considered a hot property from the moment it was announced.

by Anonymousreply 7907/01/2013

I think Melissa McCarthy's great but I don't think she'll be a movie star in 2 or 3 years. Imagine Zack Galifinakis headlining every comedy...it would get old after a while.

I'm dying to see her in a dramatic role though. Misery remake anyone?

by Anonymousreply 8007/01/2013

Did Sandra produce this one too?

by Anonymousreply 8107/01/2013

McCarthy is becoming a one trick pony and that doesn't last long. She better do something dramatic quickly, maybe a small part in an indy film or a total 180 in a big movie in which she has a small supporting role. Look at what it did for Jonah Hill.

by Anonymousreply 8207/01/2013

Melissa McCarthy IS Helen Sinclair!

by Anonymousreply 8307/01/2013

I think her movie Tammy will be a nice departure from her "ugly schtick" that she's been doing since Bridesmaids.

by Anonymousreply 8407/01/2013

And your prophecy has been realised, OP.

To which I say : Oh, no!!

Because of that success, we will get tones of comedies with those insufferable and dumb actrices.

I know, I know. If it doesn't please me, I can just concentrate on other movies and ignore this one. I won't rain on anybody's parade. But, urgh! I don't enjoy Bullock and McCarthy, to say the least.

by Anonymousreply 8507/01/2013

Sandy's getting into a rut with her last two movies, helping out the poor overweight, blind, dyslexic black boy in the first one, and helping out the poor overweight, ignorant white woman in the second one. I know a lot of Americans are overweight, but Sandy can't help them all!

by Anonymousreply 8607/01/2013

Sandy Bullock IS Jenny Craig

by Anonymousreply 8707/01/2013

Boys, boys. We get it that you can't stand a film where you aren't the protagonists, the point, the adored, or where penises weren't on display as well as constantly suggested.

The women in the audience laughed and laughed and laughed and made plans to see it again with other girlfriends.

by Anonymousreply 8807/01/2013

Sandy just keeps churning out the hits. You go girl!

by Anonymousreply 8907/01/2013

r88, do women hate men that much? To see 2 hours of men being belittled, traumatized, and victimized -- this has to be one of the most man-hating films I've ever seen -- it even climaxes with the villain being shot in the penis (twice) and the audience cheers. Can you imagine if a movie showed a woman being shot twice in the vagina and the audience cheering?

by Anonymousreply 9007/01/2013

I think you'd benefit from being shot in the vagina, R90.

by Anonymousreply 9107/02/2013

[quote] this has to be one of the most man-hating films I've ever seen -- it even climaxes with the villain being shot in the penis (twice) and the audience cheers. Can you imagine if a movie showed a woman being shot twice in the vagina and the audience cheering?

Such a delicate flower!

Everybody was made to look bad in this film...blacks were depicted as thieves or prostitutes; women were foul mouthed, flipping people off or pathetic cat-stealing loners; working class people were ignorant losers; old people were ugly drunks; federal agents were corrupt or idiots; middle easterners were drug dealers, etc. etc.

Oh, and things much worse than getting shot in the crotch have happened to women in film. Check out the drilling scene in DePalma's Body Double. Not for the squeamish like you, no doubt.

by Anonymousreply 9207/02/2013

How hot was Sandra Bullock in this movie?

Any nudity? Tight clothing? General sexiness?

by Anonymousreply 9307/02/2013

More about McCarthy being a cunt please.

by Anonymousreply 9407/02/2013

Did McCarthy shit in the sink again in this film?

What a lovely way to be nominated for an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 9507/02/2013

The Heat "midandrist"???!!!!! Hahahaha!

Amazing what fragile, delicate little flowers men become if their egos aren't constantly stroked!

by Anonymousreply 9607/02/2013

"Bullock Laughs!"

by Anonymousreply 9707/02/2013

[quote]Because of that success, we will get tones of comedies with those insufferable and dumb actrices.

I wouldn't mind "tones" of movies that actually make me laugh out loud, and with such "actrices" as McCarthy & Bullock.

I'm really surprised at how many men are offended by standard buddy copy movie tropes that are flipped for women.

by Anonymousreply 9807/05/2013

It would be fine if it were actually, you know, funny, r98.

by Anonymousreply 9907/05/2013

so much man-hating

by Anonymousreply 10007/06/2013

The movie was hilarious. To be more specific, Melissa McCarthy was hilarious. While I like Sandy Bullock, Melissa clearly stole the show (movie)!!

by Anonymousreply 10107/06/2013

Sandy was a good actress and a good sport. Half of Melissa's bits wouldn't have hit if Bullock weren't there to look uptight and alarmed (like the traditional uptight half of a male buddy movie). And Bullock finally got her moment in her monologue/rant at the roomful of cops ending with her dragging her middle fingers along the frosted glass.

by Anonymousreply 10207/07/2013

It has made $129,292,000

by Anonymousreply 10307/21/2013

Is Sandra still a lesbian? How come no one ever knows which women she is seeing?

by Anonymousreply 10407/21/2013

[all posts by ham-fisted troll a removed.]

by Anonymousreply 10507/21/2013

@ R 101 I haven't seen The Heat yet as it's not out in the UK for another week or so but I will be seeing it. McCarthy stole the show for me in the Bridesmaid's movie. I like Wiig but McCarthy made that movie.

After all the big male starts bombed this summer so far - Smith, Pitt I'm sure Depp will too let's hope a movie with two female leads does the business.

by Anonymousreply 10607/22/2013

Kristen Wiig said that there will not be a "Bridesmaids" sequel, much to everyone's surprise. I forget what reason she gave for there not being a sequel, but it's pretty obvious to me that she's pissed McCarthy walked away with the movie and gave the performance that everyone talked about. Sounds like sour grapes.

by Anonymousreply 10707/22/2013

R106, you don't have to use @ to refer back to a previous post. just the letter r, then the number of the post you want to reference (no space between the r and the number).

And Pitt's WWZ didn't bomb. It's a pretty big hit. Should gross over $200 million US.

I loved The Heat. A total throwback feel to it.

by Anonymousreply 10807/22/2013

Melissa McCarthy is the best comic movie actor since 1980s Eddie Murphy.

by Anonymousreply 10907/22/2013

[R107] I think I read that Wiig said something along the lines of "you have to quit while you are ahead" which makes sense to me.

Is that ^ ok [R108]?

by Anonymousreply 11007/24/2013

[all posts by ham-fisted troll a removed.]

by Anonymousreply 11107/24/2013

R111: touche (sorry; don't know how to do an accent egrue (sp? sorry) any more.

R100: As opposed to, oh, the dozens?? HUNDREDS? of women-hating films out there?

(and no, am neither a lesbian nor a feminist.)

by Anonymousreply 11207/24/2013

you are correct, OP

by Anonymousreply 11308/02/2013

[all posts by ham-fisted troll a removed.]

by Anonymousreply 11408/02/2013

Memo to Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt and Will Smith - how to have a movie hit by Sandra Bullock.

by Anonymousreply 11508/02/2013

R115, all of those actors take themselves way too seriously to doa movie as fun as this. Even Johnny Depp will go "silly" but still act as if he's performing in high art.

by Anonymousreply 11608/03/2013

R80, I agree - would love to see Melissa McCarthy in a drama; she definitely has the chops for it. Remake of Misery; suburban mom whose husband is cheating; beleagured school teacher coping with a poor school, any number of things come to mind.

by Anonymousreply 11708/04/2013

Well, OP , it is doing well. Too early to say if it will be the comedy of the year, but there is not much competition, is there?

I must say, it's not my type of movie, but Good for them.

To be honest, I was a bit annoyed, Channing Tatum lost his chance to cement his A-List status, but his movie wasn't all that. So.

by Anonymousreply 11808/04/2013

By tomorrow (August 5), this film will have grossed $150 million in the USA.

by Anonymousreply 11908/04/2013

That's great news!

Means more Sandra Bullock movies in the future!

by Anonymousreply 12008/04/2013

And that's great news, R120 ?

I have nothing against her, but I'm not that crazy about her films either. Far from it. And it's not like she needs it in her career.

I wish we had new faces.

by Anonymousreply 12108/04/2013

There ARE new faces, R121, but they are bland, so the public does not like watching them on screen.

by Anonymousreply 12208/04/2013

[19] and [20] are right.

I hate both of these troll women. Melissa seems like a bitch. Everyone on her sitcom is good except her. I stopped watching it two years ago.

Sandra is SO over rated. Someone said she looks like an anteater on here. Additionally, she has NO talent. Even Bill Maher said Gravity was a colossal bore. A movie where the star is the sfx.

I am so sick of Sandra blathering on about Louis. Enough! Lots of people adopt. Most of them do not have an army of help to raise them.

This movie appeals to the lowest dregs of society.

AND twinks, do not post, you are so old. Screw u in advance. We all have our own opinions.

by Anonymousreply 12404/26/2014

Bullock and McCarthy completely improvised the hilarious scene where they get drunk in a bar.

by Anonymousreply 12504/26/2014

I saw it last night and thought it was hilarious. I wanted more Jane Curtain but other than that it was a perfect little break from reality.

by Anonymousreply 12609/11/2014

Kristin Wiig seems so deeply unhappy. I guess that's the fate of all comic greats.
