The four vets that were hit by a train.

This is embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 911/17/2012

Fucking Texas, man. The stupidest people on Earth.

I hate how they word the headline, as if it was the train's fault. Were they actually surprised to find a train of all things was actually using the tracks? Trains don't exactly sneak up on you. How does this happen?

by Anonymousreply 1111/17/2012

It was clearly the driver's fault. He went across the tracks when traffic would not allow him to clear the tracks. He should be charged with negligent homicide.

Especially since there were crossing gates.

You're right, they always write the headlines backward; it's never dumbfuck hits train.

A neighbor was an engineer with the Union Pacific, and during his career he hit two cars. He said you never forget the occupants looking up at the train an instant before you hit.

[quote]these festivities -- including a banquet and, after that, an "all expense paid whitetail deer hunt"

Serves 'em right -- they were planning to slaughter innocent deer! Glad I'm not a party planner in Texas.

The post sounds like it ought to be a bar joke-

"these four vets get hit by train and they all go to heaven...."

by Anonymousreply 1611/17/2012

I almost was hit by a train once. I was young and a fairly new driver. I was waiting for a train to cross the road in one direction, and unaware of one approaching on the track behind it from the opposite direction. I pulled out as soon as I saw the caboose from the first train...and suddenly the lights from the oncoming train were lighting up the inside of my VW bug.

Since I was already directly in front of the train, I stomped on the gas, and I made it across safely. But I was damned lucky I lived.

But even at that young age I was smarter than anyone in TX, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 1711/17/2012

I saw the statistics once, and something like 25% of the accidents are probable suicides, but the truly amazing number was that about 15% of the people manage to drive right into the side of the train.

Who plans a parade route across train tracks? That's idiocy.

by Anonymousreply 1911/17/2012

Where was Laura Bush?

by Anonymousreply 2011/17/2012

They made it through all the BS of war only to come home put on a GD float and parked on top of Frikin' train tracks so that a lousy train can come and mow them down.

What a stupid GD town.

by Anonymousreply 2111/17/2012

Betcha $25 that the deer hunt went on as scheduled.

by Anonymousreply 2211/17/2012

I'm not going to bet with you, R22, because I'm pretty sure you're right.

by Anonymousreply 2311/17/2012

Was the driver slamming 'em back at the VFW hall before the parade?

Have the freepers started blaming Obama yet?

by Anonymousreply 2411/17/2012

Don't train on our parade

by Anonymousreply 2511/17/2012

The NTSB said that the railroad crossing's lights were flashing as well as some other warnings going off when the vets decided to cross.

by Anonymousreply 2611/18/2012

Wait a minute, this was a damned television show!

They were filming a reality hunting show where they take veterans hunting, and they were filming this stupid parade when it happened.

Here are other episodes in the series:

[quote]It was clearly the driver's fault. He went across the tracks when traffic would not allow him to clear the tracks. He should be charged with negligent homicide.

Not only that, he drove onto the tracks after the signal lights went on. Then the arms came down on the flatbed, and the rest is sad carnage.
