Having a political conversation with a halfwit who believes Trickle Down Economics works.

I know it doesn't but I need some bumper stickery ways to drive the point home. Any takers?

It was originally called horse and sparrow theory - i.e., if you feed horses enough oats, it will pass through their digestive systems and their droppings will provide enough leftover oats to feed the sparrows.

Bumper stickery enough?

Thanks R1, I was trying to remember that to respond to OP.

We've had 'trickle down' since Reagan. During all that time, the gap between rich and poor has done nothing but get larger.

The rich get their tax breaks and use them to move jobs overseas, which creates downward pressure on American wages.

Some good bits here.

Very old story (though management consultants say they invented it)

On a very cold day, a small flock of swifts, weak with hunger and cold, fly into a field - many dropping dead from the sky.

In the field, there were several large, warm cows.

A single little swift flew towards the heat - but fell to the ground, exhausted. At which point one of the cows lifts its tail and deposits a load of steaming dung onto the little bird.

The swift eventually comes round, and in its warm environment, decides to sing about its good fortune. It sticks its head out of the dung and tweets happily.

At which point, a farm cat leaps across, picks it up and eats it.

The morals of the story -

Not everyone who shits on you hates you.

But what they shit, you have to take.

If you're in the shit, don't sing about it.

And those who get you out of the shit ain't going to help you...

That's cute, R5, but flawed.

The part about "you have to take" is objectionable.

The rest simply falls apart.

Do this:

Reagan? We have had trickle down economics back in the depression; Hoover was a proponent.

by Anonymousreply 811/14/2012

No r6 - I'm not making it up.

People picked and chose what parts of it they wanted to confirm their theory...

The full story is...the story.

All else is what you have in your head...

Management consultants are just salesmen without a product.
