In 5 or 10 years, robots will be everywhere

Here, one prepares breakfast.

I remember being told the same thing in 1984.

Robots are everywhere already - manufacturing, military, stock market, virtual on the internet. They are just not in the domestic service yet, largely because people are still much cheaper domestic help.

It didn't shut the door on the microwave. It must be heterosexual.

Yes, robots will be taking more jobs. So why is immigration continuing? Many people will not be able to find jobs. Two weeks ago, I read a story about robots being used to pick grapes in France. Who would have thought something as complex as picking grapes could be achieved by robots? You can bet that this grape-picking robot is just the begining of food picking robots that will almost completely replace humans in the fields.

And in 60 years coffee plants will go extinct from global warming.

That's one of the resons Nixon suggested a guaranteed national income -- so even if the work dried up (i.e. robots doing it or industries dying for whatever reason) the national economy would not fail. Instead of spreading some money around, the free market is chasing other nations' spending power. Today, I read an article about colleges recruiting people from abroad because so many Americans can no longer afford tuition.

Oscar Wilde discussed this situation and noted that once the drudge work was performed by machines, it would free people to be creative, and maybe, (I add this) like Steve Jobs and his friends, start new industries.

I for one welcome our robot overlords.

by Aynreply 711/12/2012

I'm not worried. I have Old Glory robot insurance.

by Aynreply 811/12/2012

I have a robot already.

Was Shitt Rmoney our first robet-elect?

R10 Romney lost, deal with it!

I'd dearly love a household robot, one that does more than a Roomba.

But the Roombas all broke down in a year, they weren't worth the money. And if the new generation of house robots are made in China, they'll be the same.

9 year old Chinese girls are still cheaper than robots and will continue to drive American manufacturing forward.

Have you been to Chelsea lately?

They've arrived.
