Is Anne Hathaway becoming irritating?

How does she rank on the Winslet Irritating Actress scale?

by Anonymousreply 4101/15/2013

How dare you! Winslet was awesome in Little Children. I'm going to watch it again tonight. It is that good.

She's twee.

by Anonymousreply 311/11/2012

by Anonymousreply 411/11/2012

She's mimsy-mumsy sweetness without any kind of bite.

by Anonymousreply 511/11/2012

She is so affected in that Jake Gyllehhaal movie....turned me off.

by Anonymousreply 611/11/2012

by Anonymousreply 711/11/2012

Kate's calmed down since she left that pompous husband of hers.

by Anonymousreply 811/11/2012

I love both Kate and Anne.

by Anonymousreply 911/11/2012

by Anonymousreply 1011/11/2012

You beat me to it, R2.

by Anonymousreply 1111/11/2012

She does a really good Katie Holmes.

by Anonymousreply 1211/11/2012

Anne Hathaway isn't becoming irritating, she *is* irritating. I was surprised at how tolerable she was in The Dark Knight Returns.

by Anonymousreply 1311/11/2012

She's always overdone that coquettish fumbling persona which just screams "please love me as much as I love myself". Her attempts to charm people are cloying.

by Anonymousreply 1411/11/2012

She's a sexless un-empathetic actress. I find her large flat black eyes that make her resemble a Japanese cartoon very off-putting.

by Anonymousreply 1511/11/2012

R15 - Have you seen her in Havoc?

by Anonymousreply 1611/11/2012

Anne thanked the NBC pages in her closing remarks last night on SNL.

Plus, she imitated Katie Holmes again.

She's magnificent.

by Anonymousreply 1711/11/2012

Everyone who has worked with Anne in the last five years has let it be known that they couldn't stand her. Helena Boham-Carter hated her. You can even see it in the interviews they did together for "Alice In Wonderland." Anne is really rude in most of the interviews she does. Her interview on NPR really branded her as someone who kisses her own ass. She's really a piece of work.

by Anonymousreply 1811/11/2012

Anne's first time on SNL as Katie.

by Anonymousreply 1911/11/2012

[quote}Helena Bonham-Carter hated her.

Well, I guess that settles it then.

by Anonymousreply 2011/11/2012

R20 - Good point!

by Anonymousreply 2111/11/2012

She's in that annoying "i want an Oscar" phase really early in her career. Winslet was up to like 6 nominations before she finally laid it on this thick.

by Anonymousreply 2211/11/2012

Thank you! I thought it was just me! I don't mind her acting too much (good Claire Danes on SNL) but when she is herself--ugh. She reminds of all those fakey-fakes I was around back when I was in community theater.

by Anonymousreply 2311/12/2012

She's quite the big-boned, toothy thing, isn't she? But at least I don't see her going all to fat the way Kate has at times.

by Anonymousreply 2411/12/2012

I voted four Winslets, but now I want to change it to five.

by Anonymousreply 2511/12/2012

What happened to the Paltrow Scale - does it not have enough gradation?

Because Hathaway doesn't even rate 0.5 Paltrows.

by Anonymousreply 2611/12/2012

Winslets = feet.

Paltrows = yards.

Robertses = miles.

by Anonymousreply 2711/12/2012

The Goop is a lot more annoying than either Anne or Kate.

by Anonymousreply 2811/12/2012

After yesterday, I wish to change my vote to Five Winslets.

by Anonymousreply 2912/12/2012

Holy crap. That Vogue cover photo is horrendous.

by Anonymousreply 3012/12/2012

She took out her dirty hoo hoo in London!!!

by Anonymousreply 3112/12/2012

everything is in reminds me of a first-year drama school student applying all the techniques she's read about

Erm , there's a world of difference between Hathaway and Winslet. Winslet is a terrific actress. She bided her time and was never so overbearing as to think she deserved the honor more than anyone else. Kate at least had enough confidence in herself and her abilities to trust that her time would come. And when it did, she had earned it.

by Anonymousreply 3401/15/2013

Imagine how much everyone would hate Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind if Ann Hathaway played Winslet's role? I mean, c'mon. Winslet is a likeable actress.

by Anonymousreply 3501/15/2013

R6, that whole movie was such a turn-off. The whole "fuck me, I'm dying" thrust of it was so cheesy and melodramatic.

by Anonymousreply 3601/15/2013

Paltrow mucked up her acceptance speech but it was only after she'd been Oscared that she become annoying. And at least she has fun with it.

Ann is in a different league.

by Anonymousreply 3701/15/2013

Paltrow doesn't get on my nerves. I get the sense that her authentic self is oblivious, whiney, self obsessed and entitled.

Affleck and Winslet think that they are cleverly fooling people into adoring them (at least duing their AA cheesing).

From Vogue (link at R25)

On knowing Les Miserables role was hers:

“I knew that someone was going to have to go in there and do something pretty special to unseat me. Sometimes you leave a room and you feel like maybe you’ve left the door open a crack. This time, I knew that I had slammed it shut behind me.”

by Anonymousreply 3901/15/2013

quote]Sometimes you leave a room and you feel like maybe you’ve left the door open a crack. This time, I knew that I had slammed it shut behind me.

She's talking about doing her job, R39. So she felt that she nailed her Les Miz audition - haven't you ever been similarly proud of your work?

Actors are often needy and insecure (that's the sort of person who develops a skill from childhood at playacting being another character) and they constantly face rejection from casting agents for trivial reasons regardless of their actual acting ability. Hathaway may be an entitled, arrogant bitch (I don't know) but that particular quote says nothing to me other than that she was confident of her acting ability in that specific instance.

Big surprise - she's a professional!

by Anonymousreply 4001/15/2013

Apologies for mucking up the quote function (bad editing).
