"Grand Delusion: Mitt Romney and Campaign 2012," An Original HBO Movie

Since HBO keeps making movies out of recent presidential races, it's inevitable we will get one about this last race. Cast it!

My suggestions:

Mitt Romney: Michael Douglas

Ann Romney: Jessica Lange

Paul Ryan: Thomas Jane

Matt Rhoades: Jason Segal

Karl Rove: Toby Jones

Clint Eastwood: Himself

Jim Lehrer: William Devane

Candy Crowley: Kathy Bates

Rafalca: Sarah Jessica Parker

by Anonymousreply 8211/11/2012

Michael Douglas is too short. Tommy Lee Jones? Harrison Ford?

SJP should call her agent now. Brill!

by Anonymousreply 111/09/2012

Oh, good, a SJP/Horse joke already! Keen wit!

by Anonymousreply 211/09/2012

Who is Helen Lawson going to play?

by Anonymousreply 311/09/2012

Glenn could use a good role! How about Paul Ryan?

by Anonymousreply 411/09/2012

These are terrible casting choices, OP. Thomas Jane as Paul Ryan? Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 511/09/2012

Peter Bergman as Mitt Romney

Kim Catrall as Ann Romney

Ty Burrell as Tagg Romney

Sarah Jessica Parker as Refalca

by Anonymousreply 611/09/2012

ENOUGH. Jesus Christ. OP, don't you have an Asperger's support group to attend?

by Anonymousreply 711/09/2012

John Hamm with old age makeup would make a good Mitt Romney.

by Anonymousreply 811/09/2012

Jake G as Paul Ryan.

by Anonymousreply 911/09/2012

I think it should be done by Tim Burton as a puppet animation. Helena Bonham-Carter can be the voice of Ann. Martin Landau can do Mitt's speaking voice and Danny Elfman would be his singing voice.

Johnny Depp can be Paul Ryan. A Burton character if there ever was one.

by Anonymousreply 1011/09/2012

How about the theatrical version:

Warren Beatty as Mitt Romney

Denzel Washington as Barack Obama

Annette Bening as Ann Romney

Ben Affleck as Paul Ryan

Angela Bassett as Michelle Obama

Bryan Cranston as Stuart Stevens

James Gandolfini as Chris Christie

Craig T. Nelson as Joe Biden

Dan Aykroyd as David Axelrod

and John Travolta as Bill Clinton

by Anonymousreply 1111/09/2012

Warren Beatty should be playing Romney's FATHER.

Fifteen years ago, it would have been a great part for Robert Redford.

by Anonymousreply 1211/09/2012

with Ann Coulter as ... the Beaver.

by Anonymousreply 1311/09/2012

I enjoyed the SJP horsey joke!

by Anonymousreply 1411/09/2012

My friend Keith Swallow is a dead ringer for Ryan, has this one in the bag should it ever come up. And Keith can act!

by Anonymousreply 1511/10/2012

Adrien Brody as Paul Ryan

Amy Poehler as Ann Romney

by Anonymousreply 1611/10/2012

Horrible casting by OP, except Clint Eastwood.

by Anonymousreply 1711/10/2012

r7 (Sarah Jessica), have a nice sugar cube and a bundle of carrots: you'll feel better.

by Anonymousreply 1811/10/2012

[quote]Candy Crowley: Kathy Bates

Can Datalounge favorite Patty Duke play Candy's producer for the debate?

She can be in the control room (seated, since Patty is petite) as Mitt tries to rail road Candy and she can be yelling into Candy's earpiece; "Don't take that shit, Candy! Don't let that fucking outsourcing bastard of a Mormon rail road you!"

Stuff like that, eh ^

by Anonymousreply 1911/10/2012

Blair Underwood as Obama

by Anonymousreply 2011/10/2012

Jeffrey Wright as Obama. Bill Pullman as Romney.

by Anonymousreply 2111/10/2012

Mitt Romney - James Brolin

Obama - Blair Underwood

Paul Ryan - Jim Carrey

Ann Romney - Joan Allen

Karl Rove - Ned Beatty

Candy Crowley - Rosie O'Donnell

Donald Trump - Frank Langella

Romney five sons - Robert Pattison, Lukas Hass, Michael Pitt, Christian Bale, Brady Corbet

Spot - The ghost of Seamus the Dog

by Anonymousreply 2211/10/2012

oops I meant Josh Brolin for Mitt, not James.

by Anonymousreply 2311/10/2012

I will make myself available to play Joe Biden.

by Anonymousreply 2411/10/2012

[quote]Mitt Romney - James Brolin

Though James Brolin played the (losing) presidential candidate to Jimmy Smits's Democrat in the final season of West Wing.

by Anonymousreply 2511/10/2012

I think the title should be "Shell Shocked: Mitt Romney's Path To the White House"

by Anonymousreply 2611/10/2012

[quote]Though James Brolin played the (losing) presidential candidate to Jimmy Smits's Democrat in the final season of West Wing.

And Ronald Reagan don't forget.

by Anonymousreply 2711/10/2012

R25- Brolin played the losing Presidential candidate to Bartlet (Sheen's character) during his re-election.

Alan Alda played the losing candidate to Smits' character. Smits was modeled off of Obama, and Alda was loosely based on McCain.

by Anonymousreply 2811/10/2012

Lifetime (Television for Women) has already has a film in production with Tori Spelling in a supporting role--

Mother, May I Vote for Losers?

by Anonymousreply 2911/10/2012

Josh Brolin as Mitt. He played GWB. I think he could handle the part where he walks over and gets in Obama's bubble at the debate.

by Anonymousreply 3011/10/2012

R30 - Mitt and W are too different.

by Anonymousreply 3111/10/2012

Brolin can do it, R31! He can do it. He can do WASP, but also meanacing. It will not be the GWB act again. The choices at R22 are meant to be interesting or appropriate but are meant a bit to refer to previous roles - Mitt - Brolin

Paul Ryan - Jim Carrey (Liar, Liar)

Joan Allen (Pat Nixon)

Karl Rove - Ned Beatty (Deliverance, and played many sleazy bad guy roles)

Romney Sons - Robert Pattison, Lukas Hass, Michael Pitt, Christian Bale, Brady Corbet (have all played psychos)

by Anonymousreply 3211/10/2012

If Andrew Koeing (Boner from Growing Pains) had lived, he would have been a great Paul Ryan.

by Anonymousreply 3311/10/2012

How about some gender-neutral, colorblind casting?

Mitt Romney Angela Bassett

Paul Ryan Rosie Perez

Barack Obama Claire Danes

Joe Biden Alfre Woodard

Ann Romney Sinbad

by Anonymousreply 3411/10/2012

Rafalca - Big Bird

by Anonymousreply 3511/10/2012

Those were terrible choices OP!

MY suggestions:

Mitt Romney: Josh Brolin (though he needs to lose some weight)

Ann Romney: the Bride of Chuckie puppet

Paul Ryan: Matthew Morrison

Matt Rhoades: Graham Norton

Karl Rove: Rush Limbaugh

Clint Eastwood: Joe Dimmick (this actor really looks like Clint!)

Jim Lehrer: Ronny Cox

Candy Crowley: Carnie Wilson (Candy has good hair, so does Carnie, Kathy Bates would need a wig)

Martha Raddatz: Mare Winningham or Claire Danes

by Anonymousreply 3611/10/2012

Martha Raddatz: Mare Winningham. Yes.

by Anonymousreply 3711/10/2012

The writer/actor, Dion Flynn, who works on Jimmy Fallon's show and is used in many President Obama sketches, resembles the president. He's even tall and skinny too.

The Obama castings here are all off, none of the actors mentioned look like Obama.

Here's a still from one of the Obama/Romney sketches on Jimmy's show.

by Anonymousreply 3811/10/2012

Matt Rhoades really does resemble comedic actor Graham Norton in this photo.

btw, the movie should be a comedy. Will Ferrell could also be included in some capacity, perhaps as an inept reporter covering the campaign.

by Anonymousreply 3911/10/2012

Matthew Morrison from Glee is the spitting image of Paul Ryan.

by Anonymousreply 4011/10/2012

Can't they just do it with puppets? Or Barbie & Ken dolls?

by Anonymousreply 4111/10/2012

[quote]These are terrible casting choices, OP.

I know. I just wanted to make an SJP joke and needed some filler before I wrote the punchline.

by Anonymousreply 4211/10/2012

The part of me should be played by LeAnn Rimes.

by Anonymousreply 4311/10/2012

These are some wretched choices overall, guys. For all his utter emptiness and amorality, Mitt looks a lot younger and handsomer than half these guys (JAMES BROLIN??).

Mitt Romney: Michael Douglas - the only one that works, can color his hair Ann Romney: Joan Allen - Jessica Lange looks too old Stuart Stevens: Bryan Cranston, Dylan Walsh or Jason Beghe Paul Ryan: Jared Leto - the eyes, hello Karl Rove: Toby Jones - always the best choice Barack Obama: Jeffrey Wright David Axelrod: Dan Aykroyd Chris Christie: Oliver Platt Candy Crowley: no clue Martha Raddatz: Mare Winningham

Don't bother casting Clint. No one can do that. Just run the convention footage.

by Anonymousreply 4411/10/2012

Will Julianne Moore be guest starring as Seamus?

by Anonymousreply 4511/10/2012

I liked the OP's choices. Sue me.

by Anonymousreply 4611/10/2012

Mr. Bean as Paul Ryan

by Anonymousreply 4711/10/2012

Matthew Fox as Mitt Romney

by Anonymousreply 4811/10/2012

[quote] Mr. Bean as Paul Ryan

Are his legs sufficiently skinny?

by Anonymousreply 4911/10/2012

Topher Grace as Paul Ryan. Michelle Pfeiffer as Ann.

by Anonymousreply 5011/10/2012

Ann Romney- Leslie Ann Warren

by Anonymousreply 5111/10/2012

Leslie Ann Warren would make a better Laura Bush.

by Anonymousreply 5211/10/2012

R44, when not parroting the choices others made, his choices are incredibly ridiculous.

Did he say he didn't know who Martha Raddatz was "no clue Martha Raddatz:"? Or was it a punctuation mistake?

"Paul Ryan: Jared Leto" Are you fucking kidding me, there's NO resemblance whatsoever, Jared Leto has beautiful eyes, Ryan has the eyes of a thyroid disease victim! Not attractive at all. Matthew Morrison is an excellent choice.

I'm the poster who said Raddataz could be played by Mare Winningham or Claire Danes.

Some advice to those who might not know the names others posted, LOOK UP THE ACTORS & ACTRESSES!

Just because an actor or actress is fat, such as Oliver Platt, James Gandolfini or Kathy Bates, it doesn't mean they'd be a good fit for a particular role.

The casting of Shitt, isn't easy, that's probably why so many here picked Josh Brolin.

My other choice is Bill Hader, he'd be really over the top. SNL has been using Jason Sudakis as Romney, but Bill would be really hysterically funny! Bill also does creepy really well and Shitt is extremely creepy.

by Anonymousreply 5311/10/2012

Is it too late for Candice Bergen to play Ann?

by Anonymousreply 5411/10/2012

[quote]Ann Romney: Joan Allen - Jessica Lange looks too old

Ann Romney and Jessica Lange are the same age: 63.

by Anonymousreply 5511/10/2012

Mitt and Ann both look young for their age.

by Anonymousreply 5611/10/2012

"Mitt and Ann both look young for their age."

If you had their time and money (and the subtle plastic surgery and Botox tweaks over the years), you'd look 'young' at their ages too.

Still think this is the BEST choice for Queen Ann. Even down to the hairstyle!

by Anonymousreply 5711/10/2012

At the end, when he can't believe he lost would be played very convincingly by Viola Davis.

by Anonymousreply 5811/10/2012

Mitt Romney: Warren Beatty

Ann Romney: Annette Benning

Paul Ryan: Matthew Morrison

Matt Rhoades: Ben Affleck

Karl Rove: Russell Crowe

Clint Eastwood: Hugh Jackman (in makeup)

Jim Lehrer: Michael Douglas

Candy Crowley: Kathy Bates

Barrack Obama: Lenny Kravitz

Joe Biden: Ken Howard

Michelle Obama: Viola Davis

by Anonymousreply 5911/10/2012

R57 - George and Laura Bush have the sane opportunities for those domestic adjustments, but they look a good deal older.

by Anonymousreply 6011/10/2012

Why would Martha Raddatz be in this movie???

by Anonymousreply 6111/10/2012

R61 - we've got to show the Biden/Ryan debate?

by Anonymousreply 6211/10/2012

by Anonymousreply 6511/10/2012

Laura Dern IS Martha Raddatz.

by Anonymousreply 6611/10/2012

Courtney Thorne-Smith IS Ann Romney!

Guest Appearance by Diane Sawyer as herself, sipping gin under the newsdesk.

by Anonymousreply 6711/11/2012

Daaaaaaaamn. Keith Swallow is hot. Just my type.

by Anonymousreply 6811/11/2012

Jon Hamm would make a better Romney.

by Anonymousreply 6911/11/2012

"Chris Christie: Vincent D'Onofrio"

Fat suit, or will he go all method on us and gain 100 pounds?

by Anonymousreply 7011/11/2012

Lea Delaria reprises her role as Sean Hannity

Bruce Jenner as Mary Matalin

Jon Hamm and January Jones as Joe & Mika

by Anonymousreply 7111/11/2012

JOHN GLOVER is the man to play Mitt.

He should channel his performance from THIS film:

by Anonymousreply 7211/11/2012

Oops! Here's the John Glover (Mitt) link:

by Anonymousreply 7311/11/2012

Patty Duke as Ann's aunt who tries to tell her that Ann and Mitt are in way over their heads. Her back-story can be that she hated how Ann converted to LDS and that she is an animal lover who hates how Ann treats her horses.

Patty can have maybe three scenes scatter throughout the film where she tries to give Ann a good talking to in a bitchy way or something.

That is just all off the top of my head (obviously).

by Anonymousreply 7411/11/2012

Who will play Nate Silver?

by Anonymousreply 7511/11/2012

R75 Perez Hilton.

by Anonymousreply 7611/11/2012

Charlie Sheen would make a good Paul Ryan.

by Anonymousreply 7711/11/2012

Cole Hauser for Mitt Romney

by Anonymousreply 7811/11/2012

Minnie Driver as Condoleezza Rice

by Anonymousreply 7911/11/2012

Janet Jackson was so great as Rice on SNL that I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role.

by Anonymousreply 8011/11/2012

"Charlie Sheen would make a good Paul Ryan."

Sorry, NO, Ryan MUST be played by an actor with psychotic bugged out eyes and a permanently smirk. Sheen doesn't have buggy eyes.

Matthew Morrison is the best choice so far, he might not have Ryan's buggy Psycho Killer dead eyes, but he sure does have that faux 'aw shucks'; dumb look that Ryan has, as well as the thin annoying smirking lips.

by Anonymousreply 8111/11/2012

R81 Too bad Marty Feldman is no longer with us.
