I got this email today from my 80 year old mom
LIghten up Girlfriend.----Mitt Romney is a Man of God--so there has to be some goodness.What is ---is---.Maybe God doesn't want him to be corrupted by the White house. My hair stylist wore black today - I just wore a sad face. Abortions, medi-cal up the ying, yang, same sex marriages, amnesty etc. etc.
PS: OBAMA IS NOT MY PRESIDENT-----SO THERE.CALIFORNIA IS IN THE TOILET ANYWAY.---SO THERE.
And yes, she knows I'm gay, and the "girlfriend" comment as well as the same sex marriage comment were obvious digs.

Tell her to turn the car on in the garage and leave the door shut. The sooner she is gone the better.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||11/07/2012|
That doesn't work anymore, R1. Damn Democrats and their precious clean air!
|by Anonymous||reply 2||11/07/2012|
Time to start investigating nursing homes, particularly the really inexpensive ones. That way she won't have to worry about too much "medi-cal up the ying yang".
|by Anonymous||reply 3||11/07/2012|
Tell her that God doesn't exist and she needs to start thinking for herself.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||11/07/2012|
The nursing home can put her on the work plan. And she can share a room with a few others. Ask about basement views.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||11/07/2012|
She's 80. What are you going to do...say I don't want to see you again? I have no idea...I'd probably just write back, "Fuck you, Mom."
|by Anonymous||reply 6||11/07/2012|
She doesn't have any hair to style
|by Anonymous||reply 7||11/07/2012|
Just send her a note telling her that the Obamacare death panels have a way of dealing with old people who complain too much.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||11/07/2012|
Care to comment OP, or you just another transparent freeper?
|by Anonymous||reply 10||11/07/2012|
Have her sign over power of attorney to you for when she becomes incompetent (which has already happened) and just vote absentee for her from now on.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||11/07/2012|
I'm so glad my mom is slipping into dementia and thinks she's Julie Andrews (Poppins or Van Trapp, depending on the day)
|by Anonymous||reply 12||11/07/2012|
Tell your "girlfriend" that god hates Romney and all the other shitstain tax-evading religious freak predators.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||11/07/2012|
Your mother's a slob. Suggest she wrap her lips around the dangerous end of a shotgun.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||11/07/2012|
Tell Mommie that Romney is a man of GODS. He's a polytheistic Mormon. He is also, by belief, a man of the secretly named goddess as well.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||11/07/2012|
Your Mom called you "girlfriend"?
|by Anonymous||reply 16||11/07/2012|
Christ, grow a pair. Sign the damn commitment papers and let her stew in her own juices in a rest home. Preferably one where she'll meet lots of poor people.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||11/07/2012|
Another vote for "Fuck you, Mom.'
And add "Why on earth would you send me such a homophobic email? Dad clearly died just to get away from you."
|by Anonymous||reply 18||11/07/2012|
She sounds like a whacky character in a southern novel.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||11/07/2012|
Your mother is a nutcase on social issues.
I cannot stand people who vote on social issues alone, as if all the other very important issues do not matter.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||11/07/2012|
If she's 80, there is good chance she won't be around much longer. Try to ignore the fact that she is an asshole and tell her you love her. She is your mother, after all.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||11/07/2012|
How could anyone love that?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||11/07/2012|
OP, the cunt, from whom you are crotch-fruited, is really a cunt's cunt.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||11/07/2012|
Are people in nursing homes allowed to vote?
|by Anonymous||reply 26||11/07/2012|
Ask her which low rent nursing home she'd like to live in. Tell her God loves her in any of them, so let's not waste money on an expensive one.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||11/07/2012|
I guess I'm lucky. My mom is 91 and donated to Obama in both 2008 and 2012. And she has never used a computer or a cell phone, so I don't get e-mails from her anyway.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||11/07/2012|
Thanks guys. I guess I just needed to vent and wanted to feel some support. Appreciate the responses.
It's so damn sad. She's actually usd to be very cool. She really liked my partner, and we'd all go out for drinks and go to the movies quite often. Sadly, over the last 10 years she's turned into a crazy right wing Catholic fanatic. We were raised Catholic, heck, she had me at 40 since she didn't believe on birth control. But she was never a religious nut back then. Aw smoked pot with my bolder brother wen she was 60!!
All of a sudden being gay was wrong! After years of feeling her love and acceptance, she slowly started this bullshit. She is now a member of the Republican Women's Club, and several "right to life" organizations.
Maybe se knows she doesn't have much time left and feels like she has to act "godly" now so she can get to heaven or something.
Do any of you have crazy right wing parents? PS:my dd was a Democrat, but he's been dead a while. He was awesome.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||11/07/2012|
Are people in nursing homes allowed to vote?
Oh, YES they do, nearly all of them.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||11/07/2012|
Sorry, OP. My mother was a socialist and atheist her entire life. She didn't change her mind or develop an irrational fear of god on her way out.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||11/07/2012|
Assume her mind is long gone and she can't think rationally. Realize that almost 1/2 of the country is similarly deluded. After all how many of those younger than 80 have told me the following, "Wait until MR is elected to see how he'll be as president. Most of his extreme positions will be blocked anyway. They'll never again restrict abortion rights, allow MR to attack Iran, push through a national amendment restricting gay marriage or . . . That's all JUST TALK."
|by Anonymous||reply 33||11/07/2012|
Ty not to smile too much when you pull the plug.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||11/07/2012|
Fuck off R36, and be glad you don't have to deal with this hateful, hurtful shit from your family.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||11/07/2012|
Tell her it's OK because she's going to god soon.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||11/07/2012|
And hopefully Mitt will be there waiting for her.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||11/07/2012|
The paranoia and clinging to outmoded beliefs of the past is par for the course for some elderly. I guess for some it's part of aging -- you see it so often expressed in differetnt forms. Compulsively worried about home security, neighbors' intentions, scammers after their money, politics. It all seems to get out of control for a subgroup. It's not to the level of dementia or Alzheimers (which both of my parents have/had), but this sub-clinical paranoia is very much a part of daily living for some. Sadly politics and religion are the best place for people to express their fear and rage, however inappropriately.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||11/07/2012|
Tell your mom that black isn't slimming on her hairdresser and neither is sour-grapes on her.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||11/07/2012|
Am I the only one who thinks it's kind of funny that she said "Lighten up girlfriend" ??
That 's pretty hilarious.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||11/07/2012|
She's been abducted by fanatics.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||11/07/2012|
I suspect her viewing FoxNews is tied up in all this .. does she watch that channel, OP?
|by Anonymous||reply 45||11/07/2012|
Saw so many of these "Obama isn't my President" posts today. Remember when this is was sometimes used under W's term and Repubs were so quick to respond like "Then you're unAmerican", "Leave the country", etc?
|by Anonymous||reply 46||11/07/2012|
The lowness of the Republicans' responses to defeat - stupid, lying, self-serving and insulting - serve to show how base and dull and humorless they are.
OP, your mother is a cunt. Tell her so. No one needs or deserves to have that kind of crap "shared" with them.
If you are too sensitive, feel free to provide us with the old twat's contact information.
And we promise we'll be humorous, intelligent and honest about things with her. The asshole.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||11/07/2012|
Say, "Mom, you prayed to God to save America through this election, right?" "He sent you a hurricane."
|by Anonymous||reply 48||11/08/2012|
ITA with R41. I have a few older relatives who became paranoid with age. Some became more racist too where they weren't before. The weird thing with them all is that they never came in much contact with people of other races. Once you get to be in your late 70's, your world get's smaller. These relatives didn't leave the house often and when they did it was just to go to the grocery store or to family functions or church. My father-in-law rarely saw blacks, hispanics or asians in his daily life, but he would rage about them constantly saying they were "ruining the country." I wondered why someone would become so bitter and hostile toward people he never encountered in his own day to day life.
I also agree that Fox news is poison to shut ins. It makes formerly reasonable, intelligent and happy older people become angry, paranoid and demented. Sad.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||11/08/2012|
My dad died Friday. He didn't give a shit about the election and neither did anyone else on his floor - yet the Romney signs were littering the lawn of the home where I paid $7,000 per month.
He didn't vote.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||11/08/2012|
My mom is 81 and would never, ever talk to me like that no matter how made she was. You're mother is a mean, hate filled woman who needs to be deleted from your life.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||11/08/2012|
I like the nursing home idea on the work plan, no internet, no cell phone, no tv. You can leave daily messages for her that just say, "Lighten up, girlfriend!"
|by Anonymous||reply 52||11/08/2012|
My mom is 81 and would never, ever talk to me like that [bold]no matter how made she was[/bold].
Your mother is in the Mafia, R51? What was that like?
|by Anonymous||reply 53||11/08/2012|
OP - It does sound as if her mind is going. So perhaps the response is "Aw Mom. I do love you!"
|by Anonymous||reply 54||11/08/2012|
I would freeze her out and never speak to her again.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||11/08/2012|
R41, I've had to drop many "friends" from my life because of their negative outlook and "fear of the evil promoted by un-Godly Hollywood." Are you saying that right-wing politics and religion take advantage of this fact, or that groups like OMM push Fox News and preachers to be more "Hell, Fire&Damnation?"
|by Anonymous||reply 56||11/08/2012|
As much as fundies bitch about liberal Hollywood, SOMEONE is paying to see movies starring Kevin James.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||11/08/2012|
My mom's getting like this too...I blame the Catholics. They've gotten a lot more hard-core right wing, with the bishops telling the congregations who to vote for in the last decade or two.
However, she knows I wouldn't be home anymore if she'd voted against marriage equality in Maryland. So she (at least pretended to) support it.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||11/08/2012|
Yep, my Mom was a right-wing republican and my Dad (divorced her) was a left-wing democrat. My mother took her politics very seriously but couldn't debate her way out of a paper bag. I could. So she gave up. But she didn't give up her views.
You can't reason someone out of something they didn't reason themselves into. I also experienced homophobia with her. She was upper-middle-class, married again to a snobby republican.
They moved me into my new apt and a swishy guy walked past on the sidewalk. Mom saw him, walked up behind him, and marched in lockstep with him for a few steps, mincing all the way. She thought she was hysterical. I was slackjawed.
She had two gay friends, who "haven't found the right girl yet" with whom she used to take in B'way shows. Turns out her new conservative's husband oldest son was gay too, and he made me look like Mr. Macho.
So, they kind of switched their allegiance. Mom loved his kid, praised everything he did (he was a successful businessman) and her husband loved me (a highly unsuccessful writer, he told me I should be in "Esquire"). That's how they worked THAT out. A debit turned into an asset by marriage. Ha.
