Breaking on CNN.
Crane collapse in New York City due to the high winds!!
|by Anonymous||reply 78||11/07/2012|
I know how it feels.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||10/29/2012|
It's collapse isn't complete, it's hanging by a few cables, but I agree that it will NEVER be president.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||10/29/2012|
Damn it- sorry.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||10/29/2012|
Being evacuated from my apartment next to Carnegie because of it. Not happy.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||10/29/2012|
Who will sue the construction company?
|by Anonymous||reply 5||10/29/2012|
R4 where will you go?
|by Anonymous||reply 6||10/29/2012|
R4 It's horrid being evacuated but please go and stay safe. I've been evacuated for bomb scares a few times and whilst it's not fun nor is it nice for the officials dealing with the evacuation having people give them a hard time.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||10/29/2012|
|by Anonymous||reply 8||10/29/2012|
Sorry to hear about that r4.
Stay safe and good luck.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||10/29/2012|
Bring me the one you call ANDERSON COOPER!!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 10||10/29/2012|
Hey baby I hear the blues a'callin'...
Tossed salad and scrambled eggs!
|by Anonymous||reply 11||10/29/2012|
Breaking news? damn...fucking media sensationalizes everything...focus on people who are being evacuated or without power. Not "oMg!!1111!! CrAnE cOlLaPsEs!!!11111!!! "
|by Anonymous||reply 12||10/29/2012|
R4, was the hotel your choice, do they just evacuate you and say good luck finding a place or how does it work?
|by Anonymous||reply 13||10/29/2012|
R12 - do you realize how heavy a crane is and how much damage it could do? This actually could be a big deal.
What the fuck was the crane even doing there!
R4 - there are many nice hotels nearby - go somewhere safe with room service!
|by Anonymous||reply 14||10/29/2012|
Which of the 15 species of cranes was this one that collapsed? Whooping?
|by Anonymous||reply 15||10/29/2012|
|by Anonymous||reply 16||10/29/2012|
First evacuate. Then ejaculate.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||10/29/2012|
Would love to know what R4 pays for rent.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||10/29/2012|
Yes, it is serious, but the media is clearly orgazming over the dangling crane.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||10/29/2012|
It's been dangling for hours, but this just happened:
[quote]*4 Alarm* 157 West 57 St FDNY Transmitting a 4 alarm for the crane collapsed on to of the 75 story building.
Something about to happen?
|by Anonymous||reply 20||10/29/2012|
Constructicon, transform and fly away!
|by Anonymous||reply 21||10/29/2012|
who won't r5
|by Anonymous||reply 22||10/29/2012|
I hope it bashes and collapses that rich shits bldg. ONE HUNDRED MILLION for the penthouse. GO CRANE
|by Anonymous||reply 23||10/29/2012|
Just watching CNN coverage now and it's a hoot. Piers Morgan is telling us that this very morning Donald Trump could tell that the weight distribution was off on the apparatus and that he notified someone to do something about it! Did I mishear this gem? Trump is inflicting himself in NY's latest, greatest drama/crisis/tragedy possibly due to negligence!
We were also informed that the penthouse in this, NY's largest residential building, just sold for $90 MILLION.
Does TV get better than this because I hardly ever watch. Maybe I should pick it up.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||10/29/2012|
R13 one of the nicer hotels in the area was evacuated because of the accident.
R20 it could be because steam and water is about to be shut down in the area. If the crane's collapse is complete, it would cut through the pipes in the area. Shutting down steam on its on can be tricky and can explode. My guess it's as a precaution.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||10/29/2012|
If it falls it could fucking BOUNCE down W 57th St due to the wind. That would be very serious.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||10/29/2012|
I saw Soledad Obrien reporting in front of this very crane this morning on CNN. She said it had been secured. Im glad it didnt fall on her though, I actually like her now.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||10/29/2012|
I would have thought the crane would have been taken down or...what ever the fuck they do with cranes when a storm is coming in.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||10/29/2012|
I have a similar, 20 story crane next block over from me. I watched them put that thing up. It took a week or more to put it up, and have no idea how long it take to bring it down. Can't imagine how much notice it would have taken to bring down a 90 story crane. Crazy!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 29||10/29/2012|
That building (157 W 57th) is a disgusting display of avarice. If it gets knocked down, it's no big loss.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||10/29/2012|
As it happens, one of the reasons that the building could be tuilt so high is that the developers purchased the air rights from some of the buildings that have now been evacuated, including (but not limited to) 140 West 58th Street and 205 West 57th. They also purchased 179 West 57th and turned it condo, retaining the air rights. So at least some of those being evacuated have profited from the construction.
My recollection is that Extell, the developer, has had some trouble with collapsing cranes before, notably one that fell onto a baby carriage on the upper West side.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||10/29/2012|
This is freaking Donald Trump out!
|by Anonymous||reply 32||10/29/2012|
I heard Anderson is getting ready to climb the crane and report from the top!
|by Anonymous||reply 33||10/29/2012|
It's Obama's fault!
|by Anonymous||reply 34||10/29/2012|
Lately Mayor Bloomberg has been riding his private hobbyhorses of fizzy drinks and benches in Times Square. He is neglecting core city business, having failed to make the bribery-infested Buildings Department enforce laws that developers routinely break. It is a wonder that more accidents do not take place.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||10/29/2012|
Power out on 23rd but I am powered by a generater.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||10/29/2012|
Is the baby OK R31? Say the baby's ok, no matter.
I can't take all this tragedy. Where are my pills?
|by Anonymous||reply 37||10/29/2012|
Bloomberg sounded pretty pissed off a few minutes ago. Would you damn New Yorkers stop calling 911 (for no reason) and get off the fucking streets!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 38||10/29/2012|
Laurence O'Donnell says to call 311 if 911 won't take your calls.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||10/29/2012|
[quote]Laurence O'Donnell says to call 311 if 911 won't take your calls.
911 refuses to take my calls.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||10/29/2012|
In the movie, as the crane flies toward the bus load of Dominican orphans the Trump character has procured to polish his collection of cubic zirconia dinnerware, the thing on the Trump character's head, in an act of defiance and disgust with what it has been sitting on fo 40 years, will gallantly fly into its path, tangling it and forcing it to crash on Trump, impaling him on the spot his genitals are supposed to be.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||10/29/2012|
Thousands having to evacuate that area, and they have to serve a hotel, so emergency services does what they can but expect you to do what you can. I ended up going to a friend's uptown because I didn't want to go to a hotel with no power, and all the hotels I would go to are below 42nd.
Things are getting very hairy here in NY.
This is feeling very similar to 9/11 to me, especially the reaction from the media which is a real mess. All this talk about how things will immediately get back to normal.
I think tomorrow is going to be tremendously ugly.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||10/29/2012|
I'm not looking forward to watching the news tomorrow.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||10/29/2012|
So Piers Morgan used this near-cataclysm in which everyone on a downwind street was a potential victim so he could suck his own and/or Trump's dick? How refreshing, yet again.
If the crane goes, taking out establishments left, right and center, and who knows which other "human matter" that might be collateral to putting up one of the best luxury highrises NY has ever known, what will happen?
Nothing. The cunt Romney will probably be president.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||10/29/2012|
I have a nail appointment tomorrow they better not be closed
|by Anonymous||reply 45||10/29/2012|
Oh I loved The Lost Language of Cranes!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 46||10/29/2012|
The entire FRONT of a building in Chelsea has blown off, I am not kidding! I heard that news this afternoon.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||10/29/2012|
Don't worry r47....it was an illegal immigrant hotel and not up to code.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||10/29/2012|
I am nice 20 year old polish boy who was in hotel when face fall off. Can someone take me in?
|by Anonymous||reply 49||10/29/2012|
Why didn't they take it down before the storm?
|by Anonymous||reply 50||10/29/2012|
R49, can you catch a plane? or swim?
|by Anonymous||reply 51||10/29/2012|
We would stay only in our parents' favorites:
The Regency The Pierre The St. Regis
|by Anonymous||reply 52||10/30/2012|
R1 and R10 had me rolling.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||10/30/2012|
Some of those establishments are rather too close to that swinging crane sweetie.
|by Anonymous||reply 54||10/30/2012|
Seriously, for you DL engineers, how in the hell will they dismantle that thing even if it doesn't give way to gravity?
|by Anonymous||reply 55||10/30/2012|
W & W for R10
|by Anonymous||reply 56||10/30/2012|
hey there, beautiful, here's an idea for a thread: occupations with a complete lack of DL posters
|by Anonymous||reply 57||10/30/2012|
r55 -- you shore it up with additional cables and then use the equipment used to get it up to get it down
|by Anonymous||reply 58||10/30/2012|
When the wind dies down, maybe a helicopter could help?
|by Anonymous||reply 59||10/30/2012|
Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft!
|by Anonymous||reply 60||10/30/2012|
r10 just made me look like I was laughing at Sandy's victims.
|by Anonymous||reply 61||10/30/2012|
Because people were living there R50. It's in Chelsea
|by Anonymous||reply 62||10/30/2012|
Della A thousand fairies will fly up, shoulder the crane, and all at risk will be saved.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||10/30/2012|
I live half a block from it. They won't let us outside.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||10/30/2012|
Can someone check with Piers to see what Donald has to say about it this morning?
|by Anonymous||reply 65||10/30/2012|
I love the film Superman too much. I keep wanting him to fly in and reassemble it.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||10/30/2012|
Della should be punched in the cunt.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||10/30/2012|
Bravo R41, very funny. Please wright some more gems and sign them so that we know that they are yours. More. please.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||10/30/2012|
[quote]Please wright some more gems
|by Anonymous||reply 69||10/30/2012|
Della, don't you remember when a similar thing happened (worse actually since the crane completely collapsed) when they were putting the roof on Miller Park?
|by Anonymous||reply 70||10/30/2012|
Are you sure Chris Christie didn't accidentally knock it over? ;)
|by Anonymous||reply 71||10/30/2012|
Miller Park wasn't quite comparable with high winds and a large, canyonous (is that a word?!) avenue dangling below and in front of...
|by Anonymous||reply 72||10/31/2012|
Yup, I remember that r70. Two workers were killed.
What's on the dangling crane's Ipod?
|by Anonymous||reply 73||10/31/2012|
|by Anonymous||reply 74||11/05/2012|
De Crane! De CRANE!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 75||11/06/2012|
Is it fixed?
|by Anonymous||reply 76||11/07/2012|
It's fixed in the sense of being immobilized, not in the sense of being repaired. But people have been allowed to return to their apartments.
Apparently they were also allowed to remain IN their apartments, but not to exit and reenter freely. That limitation has also been removed.
|by Anonymous||reply 77||11/07/2012|
It would be nice if they could make it a permanent part of the building, kind of like Mike Mulligan's steam shovel.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||11/07/2012|
