Thanks for this, op. After the debate, Bette and Joan will be a breath of fresh air. Love the movie.

One of my favorite movies ever!

The best film evah!

It's a legendary film, but the entire subplot involving Baby Jane's agent could've been cut and it would've made for a tighter production.

"Easy A" is surprisingly good.

Bette and Joan almost made "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" together but Joan pulled out of the film because by that point in time she and Bette hated each other so much they could no longer even be in the same room together.

Kicking Blanche across the living room right now.

Joan would have fucking rocked the slapping scene in HHS Charlotte.
Olivia's OK, but it would have been much better with the Joanster in the part.

French and Saunders stake on the film...

I disagree. If Joan had played HHSC, she would have telegraphed the ending the minute she came on. You would have known she was the villain.
Joan quit because she wanted to add scenes that would have shown Marion in her heyday, with suitors, etc.
Fun TV show about the making of ..

The best parody, with John Candy in the Davis part, and Martin Short as Joan.

Is that "Oh, Streetcar", R20?

Last night was a great night on TCM: Baby Jane, Streetcar, Little Foxes, East of Eden. Gay programmer for sure.

What movie are you talking about, r6?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||01/13/2013|
The movie is only good when Davis is stomping about and camping it up. The ending is nonsensical.
It might have made more sense if the writers had given the Blanche Hudson character some shading and made her less of a sad sack and at least a bit complicit in Jane's behavior.

I love 'Baby Jane,' but the one thing I could never understand is when Jane was out of the house running errands, why didn't Blanche crawl out the front door to the sidewalk, and scream for help? Of course there wouldn't have been a movie if that happened.

R25, there would have been some great scenes at the jailhouse when Jane was booked, an exciting trial with Blanche testifying against Jane, outbursts in the courtroom, and then a long slow fade as Blanche, finally at home alone, gets up out of her wheelchair and walks downstairs and out of the house, all the time wearing a slight sardonic smile on her face.

Oh R26, That is good.

""Easy A" is surprisingly good."
No it's not. It's a slightly above-average high school dramedy, neither very funny nor very absorbing. And Emma Stone is fine, but I don't understand why this seemed to be a starmaking role for her.

That one with Martin Short and John Candy is TERRIBLE.
