How else to explain the support for Mitt Romney?
Do Americans admire liars?

Perhaps they admire people who tell them what they want to hear, thereby not necessitating them to use any critical thinking skills - huge generalization but there may be an element of truth.

They admire rich people. Details are unimportant.

Clinton lied, of course, but not every single day of his fucking political life.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||10/11/2012|
They are to stupid to know they are liars

Lots of Americans worship "confidence". Confident to them is aggressive, cocky, and almost beligerent. They'll go for the blowhard liar over the calm intellectual every time. They want identify with the "winner" regardless of substance or truth. It makes them feel good.

Yes R7 but they are losers at life themselves & try to get self esteem by proxy
|by Anonymous||reply 8||10/11/2012|
Americans always prefer the lie over the truth. I've been paying close attention for thirty years and it's a fact, Americans love lies and liars.

is there anything in the Mormon religion that consider telling lies to be against it's teachings?
|by Anonymous||reply 10||10/11/2012|
Au contraire, r10. Mormons have some dispensation to lie as long as it's in service to their faith or their brethren.

So does satanism

The American electorate is a very depressing thing to contemplate, but honestly, I don't think anybody really likes Mitt Romney. They hate Obama and his terrifying army of minorities, uppity women, homosexuals, etc., but few people really like Mitt Romney. Anyone who remembers trying to talk themselves into feeling passion for John Kerry has to know what's up.

Americans admire white rich people.
There you have it.
America's support for Mittens in one short sentence.

R1 hit the mark. Americans (like the majority of people) rationalize bad/hypocritical behavior when they are in agreement with another's views, and because it is usually the path of least resistance.
We are also the land of deeply cynical PR, so Americans are "wise" to how things really work, and are well versed in sound bites. Combine this with our cesspool of a public education system, and you get many citizens believing they can't be fooled, despite their severely atrophied set of critical thinking skills. Naturally, all of this kills any motivation to "take to the streets" (as well as our increasingly militarized police forces), so you need to get rid of the cognitive dissonance somehow...
Christ, I am not old enough to be this damn jaded.

because sound bites are about all they ever get from candidates. "Let He Who Has the Best Sound Bites be Elected President"

Considering the long history of TV and Radio Evangelists in the USA. Yes...Americans worship liars.

Americans for the most part are gullible.

Perhaps not coincidentally, these qualities are also associated with "masculinity."

Excellent posts here. Americans worship money, admire brazen cockiness and, I've noticed every day this week, that the neocons who post on blogs are all about projecting their own flaws onto the "libruls". Only the "demoncrats" lie, commit voter fraud, and if a racist sign is seen at a tea party rally it's a liberal plant to make them look bad. I hear this a lot. They do not own up to their guys having any flaws. Instead of addressing them they scream and detract. What's ironic is they are the same ones constantly screaming that Muslims need to deal with their fellow radicals all the while burying their heads in the sand about their pet politicians.
