WEHT Holly Hunter?

Wasn't she some kind of big actress once?

by Anonymousreply 6205/01/2013

But she was never a hot, beautiful actress, and now she's an old actress. She's already been demoted to tv, and that was quite awhile ago.

by Anonymousreply 110/10/2012

She just co-starred with Viola in "Won't Black Down"

by Anonymousreply 210/10/2012

ooops make that "Won't Back Down," senior moment! Why do I keep doing that? Oh well (laughs self-deprecatingly)

by Anonymousreply 310/10/2012

Yet again, another tired and unfunny M joke completely kills a thread.

Thanks r2/r3.

by Anonymousreply 410/10/2012

Oh your welcome r4! I'm glad you enjoyed it. We aim to please!!

by Anonymousreply 510/10/2012

R1 - actually she was gorgeous in the late 80s/ early 90s.

She was lead on Saving Grace or something like that.

by Anonymousreply 610/11/2012

Shes in her fifties now. Probably be seeing her more in tv and doing character roles in films. Great thing about holly she has never shyed away from going where the work is. Whether tv or film anytime in her career.

by Anonymousreply 710/11/2012

I wish she were playing Mary Todd Lincoln in the new Spielberg movie.

by Anonymousreply 810/11/2012

I really liked her in Broadcast News and Raising Arizona. I would watch her in anything; she does interesting stuff with her characters.

by Anonymousreply 910/11/2012

She's good, but I couldn't take "Saving Grace."

by Anonymousreply 1010/11/2012

She was great as Louis in Super 8.

by Anonymousreply 1110/11/2012

She has the worst voice this side of Jack Welch.

by Anonymousreply 1210/11/2012

You new to these parts, OP?

by Anonymousreply 1310/11/2012

Holly Hunter (born March 20, 1958) starred in The Piano for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.

She has also been nominated for Oscars for her roles in Broadcast News, The Firm, and Thirteen.

Hunter has also won two Emmy Awards with seven nominations and has won a Golden Globe Award with another six nominations.

by Anonymousreply 1410/11/2012

She had that Saving Grace show where she played some kind of hot-mess alcoholic cop seeing visions of an angel named Earl that kept her from doing bad things.

It got canceled maybe three years ago, but I always suspected the main character wasn't too far off from her actual personality.

by Anonymousreply 1510/11/2012

I think you're the devil.

by Anonymousreply 1610/11/2012

After her breakthrough in Broadcast News, for which she won just about every critics award going, and subsequent studio follow-up in Speilberg's rather dire Always, Hunter reappeared a few years later, I think having already finished production on Campion's Piano, and did an interview in The Hollywood Reporter in which she stated that she did not view her career trajectory as vertical but rather, for her, it was more "lateral" in that she had reached a height that allowed her to pursue the things she wanted to do and saw herself rather as stretching, extending outward from there. And then Piano was screened at Cannes and became an instant classic, a masterpiece really winning Academy Awards (and a slew of others) for herself, Campion and Paquin.

And in the following years she remained true to her words working on a number of haunting independent films like Cronenberg's Crash, Jesus' Son, Thirteen, among others. She often turns up in challenging, unexpected places and for certain directors and writers will no doubt remain a much sought after talent.

by Anonymousreply 1710/11/2012

I agree. R2, 3, and 5 are thread killers because they can't except using a tired, tired unfunny old joke.

by Anonymousreply 1810/11/2012

She's now old, ugly, and unwanted.

And her voice is still like nails on a chalkboard!

by Anonymousreply 1910/11/2012

She was fantastic in the murdering cheerleader mom movie.

by Anonymousreply 2010/11/2012

I am big! It's the pictures that got small!

by Anonymousreply 2110/11/2012

Her accent and weird mouth killed her major film career. Unless she was playing a regional Southern her accent held her back. She made no effort to modify of lose it so it limits the parts she can play. Which is a shame because she is a terrific actress.

by Anonymousreply 2210/11/2012

She showed her hole in The Piano and then got fingered by the delicious Elias Koteas in Crash.

by Anonymousreply 2310/11/2012

She's Ron Eldard.

by Anonymousreply 2410/11/2012

Excellent actress but with a limited range.

by Anonymousreply 2510/11/2012

She used to have a very large clit that was visible through fabric. In one bathing suit scene I was very distracted by it. And the voice! Yes, you are right. Bad every which way.

by Anonymousreply 2610/11/2012

R22, her film career was not "ruined" by her voice and mouth (wha?). As R17 pretty well states, she's been in some classic films (with and without her voice), is an Academy Award winner (a year in which she was a double nominee, I might add). She also shows up in unexpected projects always delivering high caliber character work. If I recall correctly, she was also the original choice for the role that eventually went to Helen Hunt in As Good As It Gets.

by Anonymousreply 2710/11/2012

She had cankles in Broadcast News.

by Anonymousreply 2810/11/2012

R28 - Seriously? She was super fit, and if anything, skinny.

by Anonymousreply 2910/11/2012

She's at least a foot shorter than I am and I'm 5'2". I had to crane my neck down to make eye contact with her and we were both wearing flats.

by Anonymousreply 3010/12/2012

Wow, now that's short r30. I'm 5'3, so she would be like my grandma-short.

by Anonymousreply 3110/12/2012

I think she's 5'0".

by Anonymousreply 3210/12/2012

She dumped Janus so Speilberg had her black balled

by Anonymousreply 3310/12/2012

She's a lesbo, right?

by Anonymousreply 3410/12/2012

her side mouth (cane voice) is more and more pronounced as she gets older as evidenced in Won't Back Down. It's a cane faced scream!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 3510/12/2012

Not a lesbo r34.

by Anonymousreply 3610/12/2012

She won the Oscar for playing a mute, so I don't think her voice can be said to have held her back.

(I thought it was a dopey movie though, and the music is dopey too.)

by Anonymousreply 3710/12/2012

Okay, R26, what bathing suit scene in what movie??

by Anonymousreply 3810/12/2012

She was so great in Home For the Holidays! The best thanksgiving movie, ever!

by Anonymousreply 3910/12/2012

Her best work was probably in NBCs "Men Behaving Badly".

by Anonymousreply 4010/13/2012

Great in "Raising Arizona."

by Anonymousreply 4110/13/2012

She makes a terrible hissing noise when she speaks. I don't know how anyone could stand to listen to that.

by Anonymousreply 4210/13/2012

I would hardly call THE PIANO a timeless classic. The movie is pretentious drivel that bores you senseless.

That being said, Hunter is a terrific actress. But THE PIANO will always be overrated.

by Anonymousreply 4310/13/2012

She is now in a UK tv series called Top of the Lake with Elizabeth Moss from Mad Men. She's also set to be in some Diablo Cody project with Russel Brand and Octavia Spencer.

by Anonymousreply 4410/13/2012

Well, speak of the devil: Holly Hunter is alive and well and doing a play Off Broadway!

by Anonymousreply 4511/11/2012

[quote]She is now in a UK tv series called Top of the Lake with Elizabeth Moss from Mad Men

How is that? It was directed by Jane Campion.

by Anonymousreply 4611/11/2012

R45 - No, you're the devil.

by Anonymousreply 4711/11/2012

She had a ton of cosmetic surgery done

by Anonymousreply 4811/12/2012

No she hasn't.

by Anonymousreply 4911/12/2012

Having kids ravaged her face. Twins, no less.

by Anonymousreply 5012/12/2012

Don't buy your tickets yet kiddies, the NY Times has reported that...

The Oscar winner Holly Hunter has withdrawn from the Flea Theater’s production of the new play “The Vandal,” citing scheduling conflicts, and will be replaced by the admired theater actress Deirdre O’Connell (“Magic/Bird,” “In the Wake”), the theater announced on Tuesday. No further details about Ms. Hunter were provided.

by Anonymousreply 5112/12/2012

Well she certainly looks like she's had surgery.

by Anonymousreply 5212/12/2012

She's fantastic in "Jackie". Loved the movie.

by Anonymousreply 5312/22/2012

Doesn't look like she had surgery to me. This is from her latest movie

by Anonymousreply 5401/12/2013

[quote] She makes a terrible hissing noise when she speaks.

What isth it you are pstheaking of?

by Anonymousreply 5501/12/2013

Of course she's had surgery!

But it was a gall bladder removal surgery

by Anonymousreply 5601/12/2013

I know she's always been skinny, but looks anorexic here. And, yes, she had work done on her face. Just look at her plump cheeks.

by Anonymousreply 5705/01/2013

She should consider gloves.

by Anonymousreply 5805/01/2013

Isn't she a rug-muncher? I always assumed she was.

by Anonymousreply 5905/01/2013

[quote]She is now in a UK tv series called Top of the Lake with Elizabeth Moss from Mad Men

She plays a sort of spiritual leader to a group of women in that. She's got long gray hair and no makeup and is usually slumped in a chair. I suppose it's an acting choice, but she mumbles when she speaks to the point that I can't understand a word she says.

by Anonymousreply 6005/01/2013

Saving Grace wasn't that long ago.

by Anonymousreply 6105/01/2013

That's Holly R57?! It looks nothing like her!
