My tenant died yesterday without paying October's rent. The funeral is Friday.

His family has already moved his stuff out. I need to have cash coming in. Is it too soon to advertise that the apt is for rent?

by Anonymousreply 2110/11/2012

No.

by Anonymousreply 110/09/2012

Not at all.

by Anonymousreply 210/09/2012

Offer to say a few words at the service and mention the vacancy.

by Anonymousreply 310/09/2012

Keep his deposit, after all, he didn't give proper notice....

by Anonymousreply 410/09/2012

If all of his stuff is moved out, just clean up the body fluids and you are ready to go!

by Anonymousreply 510/09/2012

Keep his deposit too.

Go to the funeral and stop the proceedings till you get paid on the spot, OP!

I would.

My aunt lived in a handicapped apartment complex on the 5th of the month. The rent was paid up for the whole month already and I had the place cleared out by the 15th so they could rent out as soon as possible but they charged me another months rent because she hadn't given thirty days notice of leaving.

Where did she live the rest of the time?

by Anonymousreply 810/09/2012

It's actually fair to keep one month's rent but if there was anything more, the family should get a refund.

by Anonymousreply 910/09/2012

you need to clear it with morgue. The may want to seal the apartment before they do an investication.

This is a time when I'm asking for a serious DL response. Would it be insensitive for me to post the ad today on Craig's List? We live in a small city.

Take that deadbeat on Judge Judy. Make him pay!!!

Whoops sorry, she died on the fifth but was charged another month because she didn't give a month's notice of leaving.

Stop the funeral!!!!

by Anonymousreply 1410/09/2012

In New York City they'd be pushing the body out of the way to speak with the landlord.

by Anonymousreply 1510/09/2012

How inconsiderate of your tenant.

by Anonymousreply 1610/09/2012

wait until after the funeral to post the ad, and if you need cash coming in so badly then go collect some bottles and cans or panhandle.

by Anonymousreply 1710/11/2012

Well, if you have one month's deposit, then he is paid up until the end of October and you can't rent out the apt until November anyway.

Is it true that if a Social Security recipient dies up until the last day of a month, SS expects repayment of the entire month from the estate. Also heard the $250 death benefit is not available to singles.

Well, think about it. If you're single and dead, who's gonna benefit from the $250?

by Anonymousreply 2010/11/2012

STEAL THE BODY FOR RANSOM !!!
