I just listened to her latest, "Little Broken Hearts," and god help me I like it. Fuck, will I soon be hoarding cats, telling anyone who will listen about the miracle of hemp products and passing out vegan literature in front of my local Whole Foods? Hold me Datalounge, I'm scared!
Fuck, I actually like Norah Jones now!

OP, you are trying far too hard.
Danger Mouse produced the new album. I've only heard a few of the songs, but they're very different from what Snorah has done in the past.
Also, Norah Jones fans aren't hippies and cat ladies, they're mostly yuppies and old white people.

I love Norah, and have from the first album.

The first cd was great. People make fun of her because they are ashamed of liking beautiful things - that was beautiful music in ugly times.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||10/08/2012|
R3 - yes, and a lot of people said her music was boring. I didn't think so.

Welcome to Eldergayville, OP.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||10/08/2012|
R5 - Norah can't be more than 33.

[quote]Welcome to Eldergayville, OP.
The eldergays love Norah because they relate to the line "I don't know why I didn't come."

Big groan R10
|by Anonymous||reply 12||11/18/2012|
She's so 2003.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||11/18/2012|
Come Away With Me
|by Anonymous||reply 14||11/18/2012|
I enjoyed Happy Pills of her recent work.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||08/05/2013|
Cannot stand her voice!
very annoying singer
|by Anonymous||reply 16||08/05/2013|
A lot of people disagree with you R16

I didn't get her appeal until I heard her on the Danger Mouse produced album Rome.

Lots of people were shocked to hear she's the daughter of the late Ravi Shankar, the famous Indian sitarist!
Even those spiritual musicians get horny on the road. IIRC, hete mom is from Texas and that's where she met Ravi while he was on tour.
I'm not sure if Norah is the product of a one night stand or an ongoing affair.

R20 Norah's mom was Sue Jones. They had an affair of some length, longer than a one night stand.

[quote]IIRC, hete mom is from Texas and that's where she met Ravi while he was on tour.
No, her mother worked for a music promoter in NYC and it was through that connection that she met Ravi.
Ravi's affair with Sue lasted for years, although he was still married to his first wife during that time and became involved with the woman who eventually became his second wife, Sukanya, during that period as well. He discussed the situation a little in his autobiography - apparently after years of waffling from him Sue got fed up and gave him an ultimatum. Of the three women, he chose her, but not for long, and after that final breakup Sue changed Norah's name (originally Geetali Shankar) and moved back to Texas, where she was from.
I don't think I've ever seen a photo of Sue. Norah has apparently taken great pains to protect her privacy.

My favorite song last year was After The Fall. It had a really vibey, retro sound, almost like surfer music in the 60's.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||08/06/2013|
Hell, I'm an elder and never heard of this woman.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||08/06/2013|
Nora is really attractive, I wish she was at least bar-sexual..... Sigh.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||08/06/2013|
Norah is gorgeous!

Why on earth would you brag about that? Her debut album sold more than 10 million copies and won eight Grammy awards. It's not like she's some nobody.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||08/06/2013|
She makes the most boring music EVAH.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||08/06/2013|
R25 - She even performed on the Oscars.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||08/06/2013|
her debut was a classic
I don't know the newer stuff
don't know why people make fun of her when there so much more that is worse
|by Anonymous||reply 31||08/06/2013|
I think she is talented, beautiful, and creative. She doesn't sound like everyone else, good for her! Her works are mellow, good for her! Why all the hate - if you don't like it don't listen.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||08/06/2013|
Her newer stuff is not as snoozy as her earlier output.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||08/06/2013|
I generally like her old stuff better than the new.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||08/06/2013|
She has quite a range, from country to jazz to pop.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||08/06/2013|
I like this song.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||11/03/2014|
Court and Spark-with Herbie Hancock. Fantastic!
|by Anonymous||reply 37||11/03/2014|
People make fun of her because she became the go-to dinner party soundtrack, i.e. background music.
