Mira Sorvino - Five Fave Roles
“I made my bones on that movie, learned almost everything I ever learned. How could I not love it?”
“Working with Woody (Allen) was such a special experience and then the script was hilarious. The Oscar? A magic bonus!”
ROMY AND MICHELE’S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION
“Everybody needs a picture like that, full of personal truths, but also laugh-out-loud funny.”
“It’s only when I started acting in a movie about it that I realized how profound the problem was. That shows you how dark a secret it is.”
“It’s everything I love about a movie. You laugh and cry and get some great surprises at the end.”
|by Anonymous||reply 80||02/13/2013|
I'm surprised you were able to find five you like.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||09/09/2012|
I've never heard of three of those movies.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||09/09/2012|
I know people hate this movie but I love Mimic and I found her effective in it.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||09/09/2012|
She was really good in a House episode, as well as in Reservation Road with (Mark Ruffalo, J Phoenix, and Jennifer Connelly). She's retained her beauty very well into her 40s.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||09/09/2012|
I adore Mira! Hmmm, ok i'll write my 5 favourite Mira Sorvino roles. Here they are...:
Summer of Sam
Romy and Michele's High School Reunion
The Grey Zone
Attack on Leningrad
|by Anonymous||reply 6||12/18/2012|
She was also very noticeable in 'Beautiful Girls' and in 'Wise Girls'. She made the different again.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||12/18/2012|
* the difference
Post for Mira Sorvino bitches!
|by Anonymous||reply 8||12/18/2012|
She gets screwed over by every man she is with. Tarantino treated her like dirt.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||12/18/2012|
What do you mean he treated her like dirt? What he did to her that was so dirty?
|by Anonymous||reply 11||12/18/2012|
Her hubby was a waiter when they met. She seems very down to earth. For a moment, ten years ago, it looked like she would turn into another Gwyneth, but she didn't.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||12/18/2012|
I think thy have 5 kids. Husband looks high in that pic.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||12/18/2012|
She was also abused by none other than Oliver Martinez.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||12/18/2012|
Mira is Mira and Gwyneth is Gwyneth. They are very different actually.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||12/18/2012|
I thought she, like her father, was considered an impossible egotist, and that no one liked working with her.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||12/18/2012|
She is hot and good. I wish she could be more happy...
|by Anonymous||reply 18||12/18/2012|
"Human Trafficking" was intense.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||12/18/2012|
[quote] and that no one liked working with her.
I think she has changed her attitude. Before and after she won the Oscar she likened doing TV as a 'prison' sentence.
But after the roles stopped coming, I think she realized she would have to be a bit more humble.
Last year she did a pilot for a TV series that didn't sell. A big concession. Plus she has done several TV movies since then, so her attitude has changed since the early says.

R19 i definitely want to see it and i will someday, but i have to find the right day to see a 176 min. movie that has to do with such delicate issue...
|by Anonymous||reply 21||12/18/2012|
Really? Was she ever a stuck-up bitch? Strange, it doesn't seem so. She seems so nice actually.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||12/18/2012|
Have you seen her more recent movies 'The Presence', or 'Multiply Sarcasms'.
Were they good...?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||12/18/2012|
You have to see it R21. Or I will return to this thread and make you feel bad for not doing so.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||12/18/2012|
R25 you will do well. Make me feel...
|by Anonymous||reply 25||12/18/2012|
i love her and thought she deserved her Oscar. So there.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||12/18/2012|
I certainly like her. She has something in her that i find very appealing and not annoying.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||12/18/2012|
No...R24 maybe is sweet, are you sweet R28?
|by Anonymous||reply 29||12/18/2012|
Mira Sorvino enjoyed a bike ride through Malibu with her daughter, Mattea Backus.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||12/18/2012|
Having dried my tears, I will cop to being insufferable only on occasion R28.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||12/18/2012|
Didn't she used to have a wonky eye? How did she get that fixed?
|by Anonymous||reply 32||12/18/2012|
I also loved my high school's production of TIME OUT FOR GINGER, where I played the complex role of Ginger's Mom! It made audiences both laugh and cry!
|by Anonymous||reply 33||12/18/2012|
She used to be on Guiding Light
|by Anonymous||reply 34||12/18/2012|
R23 Multiple Sarcasms was very good, though hard to watch. Mira was excellent in it. Dana Delany also does a good job with a small role.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||12/18/2012|
She's having nostalgia about when she actually had a career!
|by Anonymous||reply 36||12/18/2012|
She's hardly lit the cinema on fire, has she? She'll only ever be remembered (if at all) for the two performances in Mighty Aphrodite and Rom & Michele.
|by Anonymous||reply 38||12/18/2012|
Why is she reminiscing like some grand old dame of the cinema?
|by Anonymous||reply 39||12/18/2012|
R39 Mira Sorvino is too young to be an old dame of the cinema, but i think she is a very talented actress. She is not only an actress who is capable of playing exclusively comedies, she really blew me away in war dramas such as 'The Grey Zone' and in 'Attack on Leningrad'. She have potential to be a grand old dame of the cinema, but even if she won't, i know she is an amazing actress and that's all that matters after all when it comes to acting.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||12/19/2012|
Guys stop watching lousy gay porn and brainless gay models and watch Mira Sorvino in her movies. Horny losers.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||12/19/2012|
I also liked Mira as Marilyn in 'Norma Jean & Marilyn' and i find her charming in 'The Triumph of Love' and in 'Between Strangers'.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||12/20/2012|
I forgot about that movie R43. I only saw it once, but I remember it as dark, sad and very well done. Having Ashley Judd play Norma Jean and then Mira as Marilyn was an interesting idea and it worked, I thought.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||12/20/2012|
R45, yes it was a surprisingly good . It was a risk to be in that role (Marilyn Monroe), but it worked out well.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||12/20/2012|
Oh dear. The JanBot has been usurped by the MirBot.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||12/20/2012|
Lol, no, i'm nobody's bot...
|by Anonymous||reply 48||12/20/2012|
Mira is an interesting person, you know that?
|by Anonymous||reply 49||12/20/2012|
See Mira in 'Attack on Leningrad'
She is riveting.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||12/20/2012|
'The Presence' is an interesting thriller. I don't recommend it for sarcastic folks though. The filming location is breathtakingly imposing.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||01/05/2013|
She was in my favorite episode of Will and Grace.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||01/05/2013|
Wait, she won an Oscar? Wow, I guess winning an Oscar really doesn't translate into future film success.
|by Anonymous||reply 54||01/05/2013|
Alan Cumming said Mira Sorvino is one of two actresses he refuses to work with ever again. Apparently, she went out of her way to mention her Oscar and angered lots of people on set. Who knows if it is true?
|by Anonymous||reply 55||01/05/2013|
R55 I believe Alan - most actors won't publicly admit to disliking a co-star unless things were REALLY bad. And the fact that Mira's career plummetted after her Oscar win makes me think that she must have burned a lot of bridges with her attitude.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||01/05/2013|
You can't be sure for her attitude guys. You weren't there. Mira seems genuinely nice and not a fake. Cut it out.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||01/06/2013|
I can't be sure either but at least i don't trash someone if i'm not sure for their lameness.
|by Anonymous||reply 58||01/06/2013|
R57/R58 Then you're on the wrong site sweetheart.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||01/06/2013|
R59 What makes your side right sugar?
Gimme a clue that can stand in time.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||01/06/2013|
I recently saw 'Like Dandelion Dust' with her. It was a good movie and i liked a Mira in this film too
|by Anonymous||reply 61||01/17/2013|
DLers seem to have amnesia on this board.
After winning her Oscar Mira starting acting like a diva, throwing her weight around. She insulted the TV industry by comparing Series TV as a Prison sentence. And saying she would never do a TV series EVER.
Shortly after a few of her films flopped, the roles stopped coming.
I think that humbled her, and she started to follow the route of fellow Oscar winner Marisa Tomei.
Not looking for commercial films. But doing smaller indie flicks, and developing a career whether it be in TV or film.
In terms of series TV, she has eaten her words. She has done a TV pilot for Jerry Bruckheimer and is waiting word if it will be picked up.
Now she says TV is great to balance her kids and work, because there is no traveling involved.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||01/17/2013|
I like the star on her chest
|by Anonymous||reply 63||01/17/2013|
R62 you wrote 'She insulted the TV industry by comparing Series TV as a Prison sentence. And saying she would never do a TV series EVER.'
I don't see the insult anywhere, it was just an opinion.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||01/17/2013|
One of the most undeserving-of-an-Oscar performances ever.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||01/17/2013|
R65 Shut the fuck up meanie. You are full of shit again.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||01/17/2013|
R65 do you think Joan Allen for Nixon should have won instead?
|by Anonymous||reply 67||01/17/2013|
And if you say anything mean about me my dad will have a goombah break your legs.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||01/17/2013|
She was very good in 'Mighty Aphrodite'
|by Anonymous||reply 69||01/17/2013|
She is a GOOOOOOOOD actress
YOU KNOW THAT, DAMMIT!
|by Anonymous||reply 70||01/17/2013|
No, I think Mare Winningham shoud have won for "Georgia" (with Joan Allen a close second).
|by Anonymous||reply 71||01/17/2013|
TV IS a prison sentence in that an actor runs the risk of a lengthy commitment and becoming typecasted. But it's where the good roles are nowadays, especially for women.
|by Anonymous||reply 72||01/17/2013|
She is so fuckin' good and peculiar.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||02/11/2013|
How can you doubt about Mira Sorvino's acting abilities? Have you seen this woman in 'The Grey Zone'?
|by Anonymous||reply 75||02/11/2013|
I haven't seen this new movie of hers, but the plot seems very interesting.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||02/11/2013|
She can play both drama and comedy because she is a really good actress.
Don't forget that people. You hear me?
|by Anonymous||reply 77||02/11/2013|
[quote]I know people hate this movie but I love Mimic and I found her effective in it.
I remember being pissed at the time that MIMIC beat EVITA for the #1 spot when they both opened on the same weekend. EVITA had to settle for #2.
That said I found this interesting tidbit:
[quote]"In honor of Sorvino's role as Dr. Susan Tyler, an entomologist who was investigating deadly insect mutations in the feature film Mimic, a compound excreted by the sunburst diving beetle as a defensive mechanism was named "mirasorvone" by Thomas Eisner."
Here, Eisner discusses it further, his meeting with Sorvino, her teaching his class at Cornell:
|by Anonymous||reply 78||02/11/2013|
I've only seen her in one movie (Romy and Michelle's HS Reunion) and she sucked in it.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||02/11/2013|
R79, i wonder how can you possibly say that? She was very good at it actually and that movie was a real fun.
|by Anonymous||reply 80||02/13/2013|
