Jessica Harper Love Thread
Never really became a "star" but still had an amazingly "cool" career.
Started out working with Richard Foreman in avant-garde theater.
Starred in not one but two major cult films: Phantom of Paradise and Dario Argento's Susperia. Not to mention Pennies From Heaven.

I'd never seen her until Suspiria, or at least I think I'd never seen her, I loved her acting style. I also watched Stardust Memories and didn't recognize her at first and she may have been in Love and Death too, anyway, I like her.

Love love love Phantom of the Paradise.
Her voice could be oddly mannish at times. Especially in Shock Treatment.
"Looking for Trade" went over my head as a 13 year old.

She was bland and not attractive. There's a reason she never became a big star.

and one of her finest SHOCK moments..

I've always loved her. She was great in Stardust Memories, as well.

From PHANTOM: one of her best vocal performances.
No video, though.

Wasn't she in My Favorite Year as well?

Sadly, not much love for poor Jessica.

Yes as well as Woody Allen's "Love And Death", "Stardust Memories" & "Pennies From Heaven". She writes and performs childen music, wrote a cookbook. She's married to Tom Rothman, an exec at 20th Century Fox who does intros to movies on The Fox Movie Channel.

I will always remember her as Suzy Bannion in the horror classic "Suspiria".

She was only a so-so actress. I can't believe that she manged to score the little bit of career that she did have.

She's on Facebook. Seems sweet but has no interest whatsoever in acting anymore. She writes children's books and also published a cookbook a few years ago, The Crabby Cook Cookbook: Recipes and Rants:
"I thought it was high time there was a book that acknowledged that not everybody experiences the joy of cooking, that sometimes cooking for a family on a daily basis can be really irritating! This book, with 135 easy recipes, is for those people, crabby cooks like me! It’s a collection of humor, survival tips and recipes, for the kitchen-challenged!"

What R13 is trying to say, is that Jessica Harper became a frau.

I'm so glad she had a resurgence with Arrested Development.

She is married to a Fox executive. He hosted a showing of "Phantom" on the Fox Movie Channel a few years ago, and after discussing his 1974 crush on her, he then brought her out as his wife. Pretty cool moment.

I think she was ok but miscast in "Shock Treatment". Her voice was too deep for the songs. I was surprised to see how good she was in "Suspiria".

She played a Joan Collins type in the short lived Soap Bare Essence. Lee Grant originated the role in the mini-series.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||07/24/2012|
She's also in "Inserts" with Richard Dreyfuss, Veronica Cartwright and Bob Hoskins. That is one messed-up film.

Well I agree with her about cooking everyday. Very annoying.

I enjoyed punching her off of a cliff.
