MAGIC MIKE Discussion Thread

Instead of seven or eight different threads, let's do it all in this one.

Not looking forward to this movie? GO WHINE ABOUT IT ELSEWHERE.

For the rest of us: here's two dozen interviews, clips and behind the scenes footage just released today by Warner Bros.

by Anonymousreply 12610/16/2014

...And Warner Bros launched the official site today with wallpapers of each of the guys for your computer, iPhone and iPad.

by Anonymousreply 106/22/2012

Thank you!

by Anonymousreply 206/22/2012

This movie is going to be SO AWESOMELY GAY.

by Anonymousreply 306/22/2012

It won't be gay. It'll be about straight dancers catering to female crowds.

by Anonymousreply 406/22/2012

I really want to read some proper reviews of this thing. Anyone know when the embargo is lifted?

BTW, the press junket was today.

by Anonymousreply 506/22/2012

The female extras are having the time of their lives... and they all got paid to watch this!!!!

Brief clip of Soderbergh directing towards the end. Try and convince me he isn't bicurious.

by Anonymousreply 606/22/2012

R5 the world premiere will be this Sunday at the Los Angeles Film Festival so presumably reviews will be available the day after.

I have to say this - this movie is going to be a big deal, or Warner Bros wouldn't be spending probably between $20-30 million to promote a movie that cost only $5 million to make.

by Anonymousreply 706/22/2012

My only complaint is why did they cast someone's daughter in the lead female role?

I was a little worried about buying a ticket to this movie then I remembered a homophobic scumbag who sold me a ticket to Bruno. I'm going to the same theater and proudly go see MM...

by Anonymousreply 806/22/2012

I have no interest whatsoever in seeing this lame-ass movie.

If I want to watch porn, I'll rent the real thing.

by Anonymousreply 906/22/2012

[quote]My only complaint is why did they cast someone's daughter in the lead female role?

Because if they cast someone's son in the lead female role, it would be weird.

by Anonymousreply 1006/22/2012

Seeing a nude porn star ain't the same as seeing my favorite male movie star (Channing) naked...

by Anonymousreply 1106/22/2012

Oh hell yeah, I'm there!

by Anonymousreply 1206/23/2012

by Anonymousreply 1306/23/2012

I am still skeptical about how much boxoffice it will do. There have been many instances of a movie having huge online buzz but underperforming at the boxoffice, Snakes On A Plane comes to mind.

This is a fun movie for people to talk about anonymously online, but how many people will be okay walking up to the theater and buying a ticket for the "male stripper movie"?

I hope it does well but I am doubtful.

by Anonymousreply 1406/23/2012

[quote]Not looking forward to this movie? GO WHINE ABOUT IT ELSEWHERE.

If you're going to get all bossy, at least make up your mind about whether it should all be in one thread or not.

by Anonymousreply 1506/23/2012

It's clear that Warner Brothers is relying on their minions to drum up internet buzz on this piece of shit. The film features a mixed bag of assholes who won't be showing their penises. I'm not going to pay money for this and neither will most of the general public.

Also, why the fuck does Steven Soderberg use that yellow tinting in all of his films?

by Anonymousreply 1606/23/2012

They gay audience alone will make this a hit.

by Anonymousreply 1706/24/2012

Cheeses. One PR fuck is doing half the posting. This ain't Priscilla, asshole.

by Anonymousreply 1806/24/2012

Let's make sure all the gays go see this. Get there at the first showing. This will be an event all the gays will be talking about.

I can hardly wait.

by Anonymousreply 1906/24/2012

Rave from Variety

by Anonymousreply 2006/25/2012

...and The Hollywood Reporter.

by Anonymousreply 2106/25/2012

Forecasters predicting a $25 million opening.

If Channing Tatum pulls this off, he will have had three films open over $20 million within the space of six months - something I can't think of any other actor in recent memory accomplishing.

He'll be the biggest star in Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 2206/27/2012

It's going to be a HUGE hit!

It's far outpacing any other movie as far as buzz, and advance ticket sales.

by Anonymousreply 2306/27/2012

Currently at 83% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (from 24 reviews) and 71% on Metacritic.

by Anonymousreply 2406/27/2012

Adam and Channing HoYay. Matt looks pretty happy to see him, too.

Ironically Channing's first acting job was on CSI Miami of which Adam is of course the star... and now Adam is the supporting player on Channing's movie.

by Anonymousreply 2506/28/2012

Me say what you can say because me make thread and jerk to Bongo.

Bongo! Bongo! Tatum! Bongo! UHHHHHH!

Be back in hour. Mom calling down.

by Anonymousreply 2606/28/2012

80% at Rotten Tomatoes and a rave from the NY Times.

by Anonymousreply 2706/28/2012

This is good. A Frau tells it like it really is. It's actually very clever.

Why Magic Mike Doesn't do it for her...

by Anonymousreply 2806/28/2012

[quote]Men dancing in the semi-nude is not erotic.

by Anonymousreply 2906/28/2012

Magic mike did $2 million at midnights, has possibility of doing a $30 million opening

by Anonymousreply 3006/29/2012

Well, has anyone seen it yet? I'm planning sometime this weekend...

by Anonymousreply 3106/29/2012

Latest estimate from Deadline: $37 million opening. This movie is going to do over $100 million domestically.

by Anonymousreply 3206/30/2012

That should be 47 million.

by Anonymousreply 3306/30/2012

I dislike that the ad campaigns focus solely on women.

Where are the ad's targeting gay men?

I like everyone in the cast but McBongo. He looks like he smells. Bad.

by Anonymousreply 3406/30/2012

R28 - she alleges her friend is a lez for saying on FB how much she wants to go watch McBongo as a stripper? I think she's way off. I also think she sounds like she's got a stick up her ass. Or maybe she actually needs one. Whatever - men go to strippers to get off, women go to strippers to have fun and fantasize. That's the difference, which this woman doesn't seem to comprehend. She might not like some guy's junk in her lap, but plenty of women do. Plenty of women also like to imagine what a rock, hard fireman might be like in bed. I think women know male strippers are cheesy, but it's all in fun. Men are just into the sleaze.

by Anonymousreply 3506/30/2012

R34 you do realize that both of the movie's posters prominently feature a shirtless, openly gay man? That's not a coincidence.

I think that might even be a first for Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 3606/30/2012

The world loves Channing right now (that Jumpstreet movie and his guest hosting on SNL made his career)I know I do. If we were living in a perfect world this movie would have full frontal nudity and Hollywood would cast a character with a big dick with an actor who HAS a big dick. Could you imagine the audition process being a special feature on the DVD?

by Anonymousreply 3706/30/2012

Partner and I went to see it last night -- loved it. Gay guy here who found Cody Horn really sexy and charismatic; Riley Keough was interesting, too, even though her part was small.

Kevin "Big Sexy" Nash! Had no idea he was in the cast until I saw it.

Also, McBongo is fuh-LAMING as Dallas. Don't know if that was intentional. He really needs to lay off the plastic surgery.

by Anonymousreply 3806/30/2012

The woman who wrote the article referred to by R28 hadn't even seen the movie, and has no plans to do so. Her article was purely about how much she dislikes male strippers. Her prerogative, obviously, but not a lot to do with "Magic Mike" the movie.

by Anonymousreply 3906/30/2012

Well, I liked it.

by Anonymousreply 4006/30/2012

Hated the character of "The Kid's" sister. Don't know her name but she was very irritating to me. Scowled in every scene she was in.

by Anonymousreply 4106/30/2012

I used to be friends with a successful male stripper years ago. He had worked on some male dancer revue on Vegas and he had been on one of Gerlado's shows about male strippers. He made big bucks in his prime. He was a very roided up bodybuilder type, with permed hair and a deep tanning salon tan. When I knew him he was a bit past his prime and had a coke habit that went through a lot of his money. I don't know what happened to him, but he lived large and was getting close to where he was going to leave the life with no money and no skills beyond dancing and bodybuiding.

by Anonymousreply 4206/30/2012

Saw it last night with some friends. EVERY showing was sold out and the theater was a madhouse. The fraus were out in force - it was kind of bizarre. Do they not realize they could see much hotter stuff on the internet instantly for free?

The movie was okay. Much better than a movie about male strippers ought to be but still pretty forgettable. If you're of a certain age and saw Gregory Harrison's "For Ladies Only" on TV in the 80s you won't see anything new here. Tatum is likeable and has a great ass he isn't afraid to expose. Pettyfer is also good as the fuck-up who falls into stripping and succumbs to all the excesses. McConaughey is over the top but the character is written that way. He doesn't take his clothes off until the end of the movie which makes me think the studio thought he would be the big audience draw. But the women in my audience were all about Channing Tatum and Joe Mangianello. McBongo did show the most skin, though. I'm pretty sure there's a brief taint or even nut slip when he does a flip on stage.

I was disappointed the strip scenes weren't as revealing or sexy as they could have been. And we don't learn anything about any of the other dancers - Mangianello, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez and Kevin Nash might as well have been played by unknowns. No gay content at all.

by Anonymousreply 4306/30/2012

I saw Matthew McC on The Today Show this week.

His face looks way too thin as did his neck. His face had an almost skull-like quality to it.

WTH happened to him in the last year or two ?

by Anonymousreply 4406/30/2012

For a summer male stripper movie, it was harmless fun. Great soundtrack. Definitely not one of Soderbergh's better films, though. The one aspect that almost sank it completely was Cody Horn, who is perhaps the most inept screen actress I've seen in the past decade. I wonder if she got the job because her father is the president of Warner Brothers?

But Channing was charming and the boy can dance. Matt was hilarious. I've never been much of a fan of his, but he stole the movie. Alex was beautiful but vacant. And every other male character might as well have been played by an extra.

by Anonymousreply 4506/30/2012

I meant Matthew McC. Forgot there was another Matt in the movie.

by Anonymousreply 4606/30/2012

My thoughts -

1. Remember that first trailer that everyone hated? IT WAS ACCURATE. That was the movie.

2. Warner Bros made a genius marketing move selling this as a fun male stripper movie. IT IS NOT A FUN MALE STRIPPER MOVIE. It is Boogie Nights, but not quite as epic or good. WOM will mean b.o. will plummet next weekend - Cinemascore was only a "B".

3. McConaughey will get an Oscar nomination.

4. Cody Horn is very appealing, sort of like a young Elizabeth Shue. She got an unfair shake because of who her father is, even though the movie was not produced by Warners and Alan Horn was no longer even running the studio when they acquired it.

5. The strip sequences that the actors wouldn't stop crowing about for the past month? Completely butchered. Matt Bomer's Ken Doll routine was about four seconds long and he didn't even remove his clothes; the Dr. Love routine was pretty much the shots in the Red Band trailer. Basically Soderbergh was not interested in exploring or fleshing out the actual striptease nature of stripping. Unfortunately that's what people wanted to see. Only McConaugheys strip at the end captured the energy, sexuality and psychological power of striptease.

6. Agree with the point that if they weren't going to flesh out the characters of the strippers, what was the point in getting all these big name actors?

by Anonymousreply 4706/30/2012

Thought it was pretty good for what it was. No Oscar winners here, but there are worse ways to spend two hours. The movie primarily focuses on Tatum, Pettifer and McConaughey. The rest of the strippers/cast barely have any lines, let alone story. (they're all in group scenes where they talk over each other...).

Both 'The Kid' and his sister were not very likeable at all. The sister was totally scowl-y. And by the time she began to warm up, the movie was over.

by Anonymousreply 4806/30/2012

In the UK, they keep showing this post-watershed trailer with tons of nudity, showing pretty much every cast members bare ass. Is that the Red Ban trailer?

by Anonymousreply 4906/30/2012

I think you mean Red Band trailer, R49. And yes, that's it.

Re. the edited to death stripping scenes, Soderbergh has gone on record as saying he has edited together all the stripping routines at full length, and they'll be on the DVD extras (11 of them, apparently). So that should help DVD sales.

I thought it was interesting that he said that when he sat and watched all the routines in full, one after the other he felt "uncomfortable" (or "disturbed", one of those words). Given that, it makes sense now how much he butchered the stripping scenes in the movie. It seems clear he was interested in exploring the *world* of strippers, but not so much in the actual stripping, so he included as little of that in the movie as he could get away with.

by Anonymousreply 5007/01/2012

Did he really say that R50? Wow.

It seems like an awful waste of a lot of people's time and training.

by Anonymousreply 5107/01/2012

Magic Mikes box office has been adjusted downward from 47M to 37M. The movie experienced a massive 45% drop Friday to Saturday. I don't think the movie will have very good legs; basically everyone who wanted to see it went Friday.

Probable domestic gross will probably be in the $80-90 million range instead of the $120-130 million that a $40 million opening would indicate (the average wide release makes about 3 times its opening through the course of its release.)

by Anonymousreply 5207/01/2012

Might be hurt by being touted as a male stripper movie and not delivering. Sounds like the DVD might be better...

by Anonymousreply 5307/01/2012

I am not surprised by the drop in attendance. Channing Tatum is the only actor who shines on all levels in the film. Pettyfer is pretty, but that's it. Matt Bomer is barely there. McConaughney is fine as the strip club owner, but a decade too old to be featured in such a long strip scene.

Despite the above, I liked the film because of Tatum, just not sure the general public will buy tickets after word of mouth gets out fully.

by Anonymousreply 5407/01/2012

From what I can gather, a lot of people were disappointed because of the difference between what the movie was marketed as - fun movie exploring the world of male strippers - and what it actually is - the story of Mike, and Mike + Brooke, with male stripping as a background.

A site I was just reading had a lot of comments from people (mainly females, not surprisingly) saying they were fine with seeing Mike's story, but would have much preferred the romantic storyline to be ditched in favor of filling out the back stories of the other strippers (Joe M. and Matt B. particularly).

Hats off to Warners marketing for getting it right in order to get bums in seats, but it seems like a lot of people would have been much happier if that advertised content had been the major content of the movie, as well.

by Anonymousreply 5507/01/2012

This movie sounds like it sucks. All the hot actors in the film and McConaughey is the one who gets the longest camera time?

And how on Earth is he still considered a sex symbol? He looks rancid and sweaty.

Soderburgh copped out. He could have made a campy female and gay classic. Very dissapointing.

by Anonymousreply 5607/01/2012

The DVDs may sell better with those extras (if people still are buying them). Agree that McConaughey isn't aging all that well. The body is still there, but he's gotten a bit skanky.

The movie is all about Channing's character and everyone else takes a backseat entirely. Pettyfer's character gets some attention too, but it's not very well defined (doesn't seem to be someone who would've gotten a free ride to college for playing football .... he played the character like a rube who barely finished high school)

by Anonymousreply 5707/01/2012

IMDB users are only scoring Magic Mike a 6.5. I think the movie has definitely peaked, it's all downhill from here.

by Anonymousreply 5807/03/2012

Just saw it today. It wasn't what I expected; it turned into a mega cheesy love story. I saw that coming as soon as the pretty sister was introduced. I wish Hollywood would cast someone who's not a thin starlet. Like someone in a wheelchair or who has a wonky eye; get someone like Melissa McCarthy and I won't side eye that crap.

Two things that I hated: Mike being so hurt by his friend w/benefits having a fiancee. Get over it. 2) Mike paying the drug dealers $10k for that useless prick Adam. Cause he felt responsible for him? So noble. Puhleeze!

by Anonymousreply 5907/07/2012

Did Channing REALLY do all his dance moves? His cap is worn so low over his head and the lights are so dark.

I think there was a body double for some of it.

Yes, I know Channing was a "break dancer" among all his other early stellar credits.

I'm surprised this hasn't come up. Though I hadn't been paying that much atention until yesterday when I saw the film.

by Anonymousreply 6007/07/2012

R60 Did you seriously just put break dancer in quotes?

This is why no one likes eldergays.

by Anonymousreply 6107/07/2012

Its surely a new take on that British film of a decade or so ago - The Full Monty, which was also a fairly successful stage musical ? It gives each of the guys a backstory as we focus mainly on 2 or 3 of them, at least The Full Monty got 2 of the guys into a gay relationship (with each other).

by Anonymousreply 6207/07/2012

Magic Mike down 62% in second weekend, indicating word of mouth either not strong or that its audience pool was not that big to begin with. Cum is 72 million, so studio probably making money already (7 million acquisition fee plus approx 20-30 million spent in promotion.)

Ted was down only 35% by comparison.

by Anonymousreply 6307/08/2012

that is a lot of cum

by Anonymousreply 6407/08/2012

[quote]Did Channing REALLY do all his dance moves? His cap is worn so low over his head and the lights are so dark.

Unless there's some massive conspiracy between all the cast, crew and hundreds of extras, yes, he did all his own dance moves.

by Anonymousreply 6507/08/2012

[quote]The one aspect that almost sank it completely was Cody Horn, who is perhaps the most inept screen actress I've seen in the past decade. I wonder if she got the job because her father is the president of Warner Brothers?

ITA. She's unattractive and wooden. Watching her on screen, you can't think of anything but how hard she's trying. Just awful. Also, she's so ordinary looking that it she's laughable as this gorgeous stud's object of affection.

Even watching the trailer I was like, "where the fuck did they dig up this chick?"

by Anonymousreply 6607/08/2012

Most of the time, Channing Tatum's female co-stars are ordinary looking. Or at least, not as fun to oogle as he is. Maybe so the targeted public (fangirls) can identify?

Now, in the movie where he had no love interest, his co-star was Jamie Bell. Talk about chemestry between the two leads.

by Anonymousreply 6707/08/2012

Cody Horn was chosen BECAUSE she is not conventionally pretty. She is the girl next door who tames the wild hedonist stripper and convinces him to earn an honest living by making furniture. She is an effective surrogate for the largely female audience, because she is living every woman's innermost fantasy: to find a man, make him admit he's wrong, and change him.

Frankly, I'm kind of shocked that the script wasn't written by a chick.

by Anonymousreply 6807/09/2012

This was probably the first movie I've seen Channing Tatum in where I did not find him gorgeous. I don't know why, but his eyes looked very slitty and there was just something about his face that seemed different to me somehow.

Was pretty disappointed that Matt Bomer was practically invisible throughout the movie.

Don't get the dislike for Cody Horn. Maybe not the greatest actress in the world, but my partner and I both thought she was right for the part...had never seen her before.

Matthew M. was perfect...sleazy, raunchy and looked like what he was supposed to be...a has-been of a "certain age" who had nothing else going for him and probably very little future.

by Anonymousreply 6907/09/2012

[quote]Frankly, I'm kind of shocked that the script wasn't written by a chick.

Well, Carolin can certainly pretend most nights.

by Anonymousreply 7007/09/2012

Anyone who believes that Channing and Cody will ride off into a sunset of marital bliss and that Alex will get his shit together in the sequel is truly deluded.

by Anonymousreply 7107/09/2012

R10...what the fuck are you doing on this gay message board, homophobe? Go fuck yourself!

by Anonymousreply 7207/09/2012

R69 The bitch was in White Collar as a guest star in season 2. Probably a stalker of Matt Bomer. Ugly Horny bitch.

by Anonymousreply 7307/09/2012

This movie is a huge hit. You can't compare it to Ted, a movie that will get all the young straight guys and couples. MM has continued to pull in around $5 million a day. It is going to make over $100 million before it is done. For an indie film made for $7 million dollars that is huge.

by Anonymousreply 7407/09/2012

Magic Mike barely lost to Oliver Stone's Savages in weekend grosses. I keep waiting for Magic Mike to fall apart at the box office, but it has not. So a total gross of over one hundred million is very possible.

by Anonymousreply 7507/09/2012

Finally saw it this afternoon. It wasn't quite what I expected, which I say as a good thing. I can certainly see why it's gotten negative word-of-mouth: the studio idiotically promoted it as some sort of romantic comedy when in reality it's a drama not terribly distant in concept from "Boogie Nights" (kinda X-rated business, unrepentant hedonism that later has a heavy price, etc.).

The actor who comes off looking the best isn't Channing Tatum, but rather Alex Pettyfer. Aside from needing to prove he wasn't a diva off-set (with mixed results, from what I hear), he also needed to show he wasn't just a pretty boy; I thought he succeeded brilliantly in that task. His character had both depth as well as the kind of confounding stupidity one associates with 19-year-olds who've yet to learn real lessons in life. The fact that he's British in real life is all the more impressive in terms of how he played a troubled American teenager.

I also thought McBongo did a really great job: he took his own actual good-ol'-boy persona, flipped it on its back and turned it into a character who's a seedy, greedy asshole too full of his own shit to know his limitations.

As for the Cody Lyon hate: I'm also not getting it at all. I thought she was fantastic - not to mention beautiful (yes, I'm a gay male).

by Anonymousreply 7607/11/2012

This is one of the crappiest movies in recent memory. The script is unbelievably bad. The dialogue is cringeworthy. MM is a bright spot. He's so much of a better actor than the rest of them it's kind of shocking. I think he could very well garner an Oscar nod for this sleazy, greasy character. He doesn't hold back though.

What is even more shocking is that the movie isn't sexual. The stripper scenes are done in the coldest, most sterile way possible. I cannot imagine how this movie has scored so high on rotten tomatoes. It is dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 7707/11/2012

What flavor of dope are you smoking, r77? "Oscar nod"?

by Anonymousreply 7807/11/2012

Finally saw this today. I haven't been so bored since "In The Bedroom". The movie takes itself way too seriously. Something like this should be played for camp or earnestness. Since it wasn't going for camp, it should've been "seedier". You never really felt anything of the grittiness that one would expect from the life of a stripper. People who said that it was like an afterschool special were right on the mark. Oh, and in the group dancing, they never kept it together, not once.

by Anonymousreply 7907/17/2012

Got a good point R79. It should have been either campier or seedier. It would have been way more entertaining or interesting.

I don't agree when you say it takes itself seriously, though. It's a little unpretentious movie. But it doesn't accomplish all it could have.

by Anonymousreply 8007/19/2012

I agree w/ poster above, it's a poor man's "Boogie Nights".

McBongo was fabulous, the best performance in the film.

Channing Tater-tots was surprisingly able.

Pettyfer is luscious to behold.

I can't fathom why Bomer took the role.

Cody L have the second-best performance. Nuanced, and very good.

Ending was sappy and unconvincing.

by Anonymousreply 8107/19/2012

For all the platitudes that the cast and the critics gave Soderbergh, I think that of they had gotten some gay hack like Adam Shankman or Steve Antin to direct the film, they would have delivered a much more pleasureable and well-received film.

by Anonymousreply 8207/19/2012

I finally saw it today. It was okay. There's not as much of the dancing scenes as I expected. I thought MM was more or less playing an over-the-top version of himself. Joe M., Matt B., and Adam R. had pretty small roles which was disappointing.

by Anonymousreply 8307/19/2012

Magic Mike passed $100 million this weekend.

by Anonymousreply 8407/22/2012

I have no idea what R79 is going on about.

Just got back from seeing it this afternoon. And it was really fun. Even hilarious. I laughed out loud a lot. The last thing this movie did was take itself too seriously.

It was fun. It was interesting. I wish it had shown more skin, but the several scenes of Tatum's naked ass walking away from the camera were certainly worth it.

I do wish any of the other strippers had had *any* lines or character moments... I think it would have made a decently fun movie even better.

by Anonymousreply 8507/22/2012

If you haven't seen "In Time", it's on cable this month (HBO) ... and Matt Bomer has an interesting if small part at the beginning (a crucial role that gets the plot ball rolling).

As small as the part is, it's about a hundred times larger than his role in Magic Mike.

by Anonymousreply 8607/22/2012

I think it could have and should have gone a little deeper into the seedy/sleazy/drug side... I think it could have been a movie that was a little deeper than the fluffy confection it ended up being. It really is inexcusable to have no gay content at all, and no frontal male nudity. But over all, I still enjoyed it.

by Anonymousreply 8707/23/2012

The penis pumping scene at the beginning, with The Kid staring at it, was hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 8807/23/2012

According to some firm, Magic Mike will have made $252M in revenues against $113M in costs. I'm not really sure how to read that. I have no idea how they come up with these numbers. Do the costs include the share that theaters get for playing the film?

by Anonymousreply 8907/25/2012

FYI Movie w/ extras will be out on iTunes Oct. 9.

by Anonymousreply 9009/18/2012

Glad I waited for ppv.

by Anonymousreply 9111/16/2012

I just watched this on Pay Per View for $3.98. I want my money back. There is something seriously wrong with Matthew McConaughey. He makes my skin crawl. I always get the feeling he's playing himself. I also noticed he never has both arms down at his side at the same time.

I've heard rumors for years about his drug use but he looks like he's in his 50s, except for his body. I'm just wondering how he got "in shape" for his latest role. Drugs, drugs and more drugs?

I can't believe the Times gave it a rave and it gets 80% on Rottentomatoes.

by Anonymousreply 9212/26/2012

This movie stunk and MM always looks like he needs a bath-and not only in this movie. I will never understand why people find him attractive.

by Anonymousreply 9312/26/2012

Matt Bomer for Best Supporting!

Best supporting what, R94?

I think you meant Matthew McConaughey.

by Anonymousreply 9612/27/2012

[quote]Channing Tater-tots was surprisingly able.

LOL! I like that name.

by Anonymousreply 9712/27/2012

The relationship between Channing and the gal who can prove he's really straight was laughable. I hate when we are assumed to believe that there is chemistry between two characters just because the script says so. There was way more chemistry between Channing and the Kid (who was so cute). What was up also with the almost non existent use off the other actors? From the coverage in the press you would have thought that there was a fairly even amount of screentime for all of the actors with bulk of the time going to Tatum and MM. Joe M. et al could have been CGIed in and no one would have known the difference.

by Anonymousreply 9812/27/2012

Will someone please talk with me about Matt Bomer!

by Anonymousreply 9912/27/2012

Matt's a very freaky girl...the kind you won't take home to mother....

by Anonymousreply 10012/27/2012

If you think Patrick`s story is shocking,, two weaks-ago my uncles best friend actually earned $8358 just sitting there twelve hour's a week from home and their best friend's mom`s neighbour done this for 7-months and earned over $8358 in there spare time from their laptop. apply the steps from this site, FAB33.COM

I thought this thread would have died by now. And no, don't expect nominations for any Matt. Oscar nominations only go to actresses playing strippers and prostitutes. Male actors don't get nominated for showing the goods unless it's a story involving deformities and private parts mutilation.

by Anonymousreply 10212/27/2012

Magic Mike has an incredibly low IMDB rating, only 6.3... Even Phantom Menace is higher.

The masses did not like the film.

by Anonymousreply 10312/27/2012

Its the most forgettable film of the year. I can barely remember it. Channing is a zero here as is the girl. The only exciting thing in it is Matt Bomer's strip in the dvd extras, which was not even in the actual movie. It makes nothing of the men stripping which it just looks at from a male heterosexual view, as though uncomfortable with eroticising male bodies. The men seem to have no hangups about stripping, the Kid takes to it naturally, there is nothing gay about anything or anyone in it and the women are all presented as just a baying mob.

The British film The Full Monty was much more complex about men exposing themselves and getting involved with each other. Mike just lacks the bite and wit of American Gigolo or Boogie Nights, movies that seriously examined or presented gay undercurrents in stripping.

The other guys in the stripping group could just have been played by faceless extras, they had no screen time or back stories at all. Now lets play Matt's sizzling number again ...

A terrible movie. One of Soderbergh's worst.

The over praise for McConnagay was ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 10512/27/2012

"This movie stunk and MM always looks like he needs a bath-and not only in this movie."

And, for some reason, you think that's inappropriate for this character?

by Anonymousreply 10612/27/2012

Everybody in my family is crazy. Matt would fit in perfectly.

by Anonymousreply 10712/27/2012

I thought the girl picked for Channing's love interest was all wrong. Channing had more chemistry with Alex Pettyfer, and would have been more believable if Channing and Alex were having a bromance.

by Anonymousreply 10812/27/2012

Didn't Channing's character appear in drag at one point in the film? Was that explored further?

by Anonymousreply 10912/27/2012

Tatum must have really disliked Alex Pettyfer, because Alex is non-existent in the promos. It's a pity, because Alex has a great face and body.

Alex wasn't even in the talk show circuit promoting "Magic Mike". I think Alex had more screen time than Channing. I hardly remember Matt Bomer in the film, and he was in every talk show.

by Anonymousreply 11012/27/2012

Worst movie ever! Well, one of...Couldn't watch the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 11112/27/2012

It's a very reactionary film, like something out of the Reagan area. "Ooooooh, stripping bad! Become a carpenter instead, like Jesus!"

by Anonymousreply 11212/27/2012

I found it odd also that Channing's bi-sexual fuck gal-pal (Olivia Munn?)sexuality was treated in such a matter of fact manner. Well matter of fact in a heterosexual male it's so hot kind of way but the male gay subtext was only hinted at in the X scene with Chan and Bomer where it remained a subtext. You know these guys were so narcisistic that under the influence of drugs they would consider any contact be it from a man or a woman as the ultimate turn on and validation of their hotness. I was so hoping it would go there but it would have turned off the frat boys in the audience who view stripping as a way to meet hot chicks. Notice also that there were very few hausfrauen in the audience and the bulk were purty sorority gals. This could have been so much better.

by Anonymousreply 11312/27/2012

I finally saw this piece of shit movie. Good GAWD! It was just a glorified fucking "Flashdance" on estrogen.

by Anonymousreply 11412/27/2012

The dialog was horrible. Olivia Munn's character was unrealistic (in an OTT Samantha Jones sort of way). The love interest (Cody whatsherface) was stiff, scowling, and barely attractive enough to pull an average guy, let alone the grade A beef that is Channing Tatum. The whole thing was a mess, except for MM. He was perfect in his role.

by Anonymousreply 11512/27/2012

I didn't get the point of it.....he should give up his financial aspirations, quit his job, and stay with the ugly girl seems to be the film's message

by Anonymousreply 11612/27/2012

Why didn't he just sell his furniture over the Internet?

by Anonymousreply 11712/27/2012

LOL @ R117. Because then there would be no movie.

by Anonymousreply 11812/27/2012

According to "Magic Mike" star Channing Tatum -- progress is being made in the quest to bring the story to The Great White Way.

"We are doing the Broadway version [of 'Magic Mike']," Channing - whose real life turn as a stripper inspired the hunk-filled film -- told Access Hollywood, with a smile at the premiere of his latest movie, "Side Effects," in New York City.

Although Channing is heavily involved in bringing the story to the stage, fans won't get to see his particular brand of "Magic" in the musical - at least, not yet.

"I don't think anybody wants to see me sing," he said, when asked if he'll perform on Broadway. "Give me some time to work on it and then maybe."

by Anonymousreply 11902/03/2013

Plans are definitely in the works for a "Magic Mike" movie sequel. Tatum says they're going to Miami for the filming.

Time to plan ahead for stalking Matt Bomer.

by Anonymousreply 12002/03/2013

Who cares, r120? It sucked. Please, no sequels to that piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 12102/03/2013

It was terrible and I like terrible. I did finish the movie but my god, that Horn actress was like a lower energy, less talented Kristen Stewart.

by Anonymousreply 12205/28/2013

I can't believe they are making a sequel. Trash.

by Anonymousreply 12305/28/2013

by Anonymousreply 12409/11/2014

I hope there is no girlfriend in the next movie.
