LGBT events, such as Pride events, always feature female entertainers

The upcoming Razzle-Dazzle in Dallas will feature Taylor Dayne.

Gay Days in Orlando features Chaka Khan.

Chicago's Market Days in August has Olivia Newton-John, Sheena Easton and the Pointer Sisters.

Why is always female singers? Yes, I know we diva-worship them, but, aside from that, is there a reason male acts of the same caliber don't participate in LGBT events? Where are the Pet Shop Boys? Village People? Hell, I'd love to see a straight male act like Rod Stewart or Aerosmith do an LGBT event. Why don't they?

Taylor Dane has been headlining Pride events for the past 10 years.

She's gotta be stopped!

" Where are the Pet Shop Boys? "

Not doing street festivals, to their credit.

"Village People? "

Too busy working the county fair circuit.

"I'd love to see a straight male act like Rod Stewart or Aerosmith do an LGBT event. Why don't they?"

They can still fill actual arenas.

by Anonymousreply 205/28/2012

Well, r2, what male acts do you think should condescend to doing street fairs?

(And Rod Stewart has been reduced to doing casinos; the guy can't fill arenas anymore.)

by Anonymousreply 305/28/2012

Lowered expectations, R3--A Flock of Seagulls will work for food, I hear

by Anonymousreply 405/28/2012

That's quite a trio for Market Days - Whoohoo!

by Anonymousreply 505/28/2012

Flock of Seagulls don't even have to work for hairspray any longer. They've lost their hair.

You should read this hilarious wiki entry that's filled with subjective reasoning for perpetuating the female "gay icon". Probably the second most pretentious material I've read this year, following "Gay Couples More Likely To Be In Interracial Relationship".

by Anonymousreply 705/28/2012

Because women get to be fabulous. And we don't much care for men to be fabulous.

by Anonymousreply 805/28/2012

Chicago's Northalsted Market Days lineup this year is fucking pathetic. What a joke:

Andy Bell of Erasure has performed at gay pride events. OP, your thesis has been disproved. Please feel free to present your dopey opinions again in the future.

Heterosexual females, drag queens and male eye candy are the three elements that draw gay men to the gay community otherwise gay men don't come to the gay watering hole. A lot of gay men don't want to be "ghettoized" meaning they try to avoid associations and associating with gay people. You can understand how limiting it is to have to have heterosexual females, drag queens or male eye candy in anything that is gay in order for it to be successful. Can you imagine a gay version of Law & Order or The Cosby Show where the main cast members keep their clothes on? It wouldn't be successful.

by Anonymousreply 1308/02/2013

"The Fosters" is kind of a gay Cosby show and the guys don't take their shirts off. Unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 1408/02/2013

Gay men really want to be women.

PSBs did Manchester pride 16 years ago (besides two Equality shows in London that year and 1993)and that was enough for them apparently.

by Anonymousreply 1608/02/2013

Not true! LL COOL J is already slated for Los Angeles Pride next year in June!

Barry Manilow for New York!

Justin Bieber for San Francisco!

by Anonymousreply 1708/02/2013

Pet Shop Boys did a London Pride in 1997, a terrific night with fireworks, and Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes to Hollywood also performing. How gay was that !

by Anonymousreply 1808/02/2013

Gay Men love their divas - it's as simple as that.

Going back to Judy Garland (and probably before that) - hey, CHER was the headliner at this year's NYC Pride concert.

by Anonymousreply 1908/02/2013

Gay men love divas of disco.
