Sir Christopher Lee turns 90

! ! !

by Draculareply 3011/16/2012

One of those work horse actors a lot like donald sutherland who never received an oscar nomination. But lee has done more b films than sutherland.

by Draculareply 105/28/2012

He's a treasure.

by Draculareply 205/28/2012

He should be given an honorary Oscar for his dedication and body of work. He was perhaps the scariest Dracula ever, Saruman in "Lord of the Rings", plus "The Wicker Man" and "The Man With the Golden Gun," and he holds the Guinness Book of World Records for most films under his belt.

by Draculareply 305/28/2012

Most films under his belt, really?

by Draculareply 405/28/2012

He hosted Saturday Night Live in the early years. He says it's one of the high points of his career.

by Draculareply 505/28/2012

"Course I'm respectable. I'm old. Politicians, ugly buildings, and whores all get respectable if they last long enough."

Chris Lee's proof you can add hammy actors to the list.

by Draculareply 605/28/2012

I haven't read his more recent biography, Lord of Misrule, but his first one, Tall, Dark and Gruesome, was pretty interesting, sort of like a minor Evelyn Waugh novel.

Saying he's hammy makes him sound like he's pretentious and unaware of himself. I don't think he's that way. He has a good sense of humor and can underplay when he's called on to, which of course hasn't been very often.

by Draculareply 705/28/2012

R4, to my knowledge it is Christopher Lee, not Sam Jackson, who is in the Guinness Book of Records for most films.

by Draculareply 805/29/2012

I always thought John Carradine held the record for most film roles.

by Draculareply 905/29/2012

Yup - according to the article, Lee has 275 roles. IMDB lists 340 for Carradine.

by Draculareply 1005/29/2012

Most people have never heard of John Carradine, and he never became a household name (not to mention a Sir), so I think Lee certainly has the upper hand here.

Lee is famous to multiple generations - those who grew up with the horror films of the 1950's & 1960's, and those today who know him from the new Star Wars films and from The Lord of the Rings.

by Draculareply 1105/29/2012

He STEALS the film HUGO, with just a few scenes & very little dialogue. Love to Sir Christopher!

by Draculareply 1205/29/2012

Does anyone know if he will be in The Hobbit?

by Draculareply 1305/29/2012

Yes, he will be, R13. He has been filming for several months now.

by Draculareply 1405/29/2012

Christopher Lee also is still living, which Carradine is not.

by Draculareply 1505/29/2012

True, R15, but what is the relevance of that ?

by Draculareply 1605/29/2012

IMDb's list for Carradine includes a LOT of television roles. Wiki says Lee has the most FILM acting roles.

by Draculareply 1705/29/2012

Currently ranked #30 on IMDB!

Normally Sir Christopher tends to be stuck down in the 'Top 500', but I noticed he has shot up to #30 this week!

Is this because people are doing lots of searches with his name for "The Hobbit"?

by Draculareply 1806/06/2012

I had no idea Christopher Lee was that old. And he's still working, at 90! Good for him.

by Draculareply 1906/06/2012

You can see him hosting SNL from the late-70s on Hulu, and he looked old even then.

Although they did a wickedly funny skit that was a parody of all his Hammer Horror work, where he was a vampire hunter trying to stake...Richard Nixon.

by Draculareply 2006/06/2012

He was in the Hammer Horror films back in the 1950's - of course it would make sense that he's 90 by now.

by Draculareply 2106/06/2012

Christopher Lee is unforgettable as Count Dracula.

by Draculareply 2311/16/2012

Sorry, Bela, Christopher Lee IS the definitive Dracula.

by Draculareply 2411/16/2012

I have just watched an hour interview with him in this new series "British Acting Legends of Stage and Screen" (others in the series include Glenda Jackson, Claire Bloom, Michael York, Ian McKellen, Derek Jacobi, Michael Gambon, Diana Rigg), where he is very articulate. He has certainly done it all from the Hammer horrors to Billy Wilder and Stars Wars and Lord of the Rings ...

by Draculareply 2511/16/2012

It's all that blood he's sucked up over the years. Blood in, Blood out

by Draculareply 2611/16/2012

Sorry r24. Bela Lugosi IS Dracula! Lee had bigger canines

by Draculareply 2711/16/2012

Christopher Lee does the trick for me as Dracula. I vote for Sir Christopher Lee!

by Draculareply 2811/16/2012

Christopher Lee was also great in the Mario Bava movie 'The Whip and the Body'. This man is a cult figure, really.

by Draculareply 2911/16/2012

Christopher Lee what a spooky sweetheart he is!
