With a history of homophobic bigotry and biased reporting fully engaged with her background as a dirty tricks spinster for Nixon, it is time to take down this filthy piece of garbage, who is trying to make the Romney bullying story one of "suspicious timing" by the newspaper in releasing it today. Again the conservatives have to be seen as victims. Please ask for Diane Sawyer, as unprofessional, bigoted and biased a prostitute who has ever sat in an anchor chair, to be relieved of her duties.
Ask ABC to fire Diane Sawyer
|by Anonymous||reply 115||08/29/2014|
They had some asshole on there defending Romney who didn't even witness the incident. Naturally they tried to question the motives of the complainants, only talking about one who has sometimes voted Democratic, but also Republican.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||05/10/2012|
They are definitely trying to spin this is as a "Democratic dirty trick"

what do you expect?
She married a fag.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||05/10/2012|
She says the timing was suspicious. I say it was impecable.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||05/10/2012|
I doubt she has editorial control.

ABC and CNN are clearly hoping for a Romney win.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||05/10/2012|
'Ask'...with sugar on top? uh, you KNOW she eats pussy, right?
|by Anonymous||reply 11||05/10/2012|
She's married to a gay man. She can't possibly be homophobic.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||05/10/2012|
I think they should fire anyone I disagee with.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||05/10/2012|
|by Anonymous||reply 14||05/10/2012|
Diane Sawyer is already in a gay marriage.
We want ours too, Diane.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||05/10/2012|
Name "Bachmann" ring a bell, R12?
|by Anonymous||reply 16||05/10/2012|
She passionately defended us from those lunatics Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell when they decided to blame 9/11 on the gays. One of the few times she stepped outside the realm of hands-off reporting to actually tell these guys off. She's OK in my book.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||05/10/2012|
Diane Sawyer already has her gay marriage.
Why does she oppose the rest of us having our own gay marriages?
|by Anonymous||reply 18||05/10/2012|
Let's see the proof of that, and I'm not buying it R17. She's been a republican operative her entire professional life. She was never a "journalist" in any real sense of the term.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||05/10/2012|
I actually respect the fact that she remained loyal to Nixon and his memory and never threw him under the bus despite public pressure. She probably understood early on that his supposed "crimes" were baby food compared to what politicians of every stripe get away with today. Good on her. And yes, asswipe, she did speak out for us against Falwell after 9/11. We all should be lucky enough to have friends like her.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||05/10/2012|
[quote] She was never a "journalist" in any real sense of the term.
She was CBS State Department Correspondent for five years. She earned her stripes there, before co-anchoring the CBS Morning News.
Back then the morning news was a straight, hard news broadcast. Zero fluff and Diane wrote her own copy.
After that she went to 60 Minutes.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||05/10/2012|
She is not our friend R20, and she is engaged in a Rovian effort to make the Romney bully story into a question of whether the Obama campaign has too much influence at the Washington Post, when they have never done any stories about Bain Capital owning much of the media and the fact that her own network is owned by a company whose largest shareholders are personal friends of Romney. Get a grip, stupid.
|by Anonymous||reply 22||05/10/2012|
She used to really gross me out on Letterman in the 90s when she'd name drop her ass off talking about witty exchanges in Martha's Vineyard with Jack Nicholson and other yuppie stars. The audience was stone cold silent as well, if I recall. SO affected. When people talk about military-industrial, status quo, Illumaniti media puppets, they're talking about Diane here. Somebody told her to say this, to add to the 'narrative'. Detach emotionally from what they are doing. Unless you enjoy hissy fits.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||05/10/2012|
Biden really blew it. I think this was all planned to hit closer to the election.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||05/10/2012|
I don't believe she's reporting with bias, but that her reporting is unbiased.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||05/10/2012|
R20 = Revisionist asswipe
What Nixon did was singularly evil, and is not the same as getting a blow job in the West Wing
|by Anonymous||reply 26||05/10/2012|
Fuck Diane Sawyer! Fuck her right in the ear!
|by Anonymous||reply 27||05/10/2012|
The way she treated the Dixie Chicks after they made their very mild public statements about not liking Bush--the way she treated them like criminals when she interviewed them--was enough to convince me that Miss Junior Miss is still a Republican through and through.
I think she's fundamentally cynical and contemptuous of her audience, and her newscast betrays that--all that unctuous "empathy," very little hard news.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||05/10/2012|
I prefer her as "Stone Phillips."
|by Anonymous||reply 29||05/10/2012|
Can't stand her, but considering what passes for a Republican these days, being a Nixon girl ain't so bad.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||05/10/2012|
I've told this before but.....
As a teenager I once dared to make eye contact with her and she glared at me and said "EXCUSE ME YOUNG MAN!!!!"

|by Anonymous||reply 33||05/10/2012|
In my tender political youth--I must have been 8 or 9--I saw a photo of Diane Sawyer being dandled on Henry Kissinger's knee. The image seared my eyeballs, and I've never been able to watch her without that ghostly memory superimposed over her present incarnation.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||05/10/2012|
She is a Republican.
She always seemed repulsive to me, all of the exploititave tabloid features and "interviews." She is so fake and dishonest.

[quote]They are definitely trying to spin this is as a "Democratic dirty trick"
I agree, but my question is why is it no one EVER seems to consider the possibility that some of this shit coming out on Romney is possibly being dished up by his own fellow Rethugs? Remember, it's not as if they actually like him -- in fact, I'll even dare say they can't stand him and hate the idea that he's the presumptive nominee, which, I'm sure, means there are those in his own party who would probably be more than happy to dig up shit on Mittens and put it out there in the hope of toppling his campaign (and of course letting the Dems take the blame for it).
|by Anonymous||reply 38||05/10/2012|
This is politics. It's all about timing. As a previous poster noted, the timing was impeccable.
Bottom line: Mitt Romney and his privileged goon friends held down a young man and cut his hair off because they "didn't like the way he looked".
Romney was a bigot and a bully then and he still his today - and that fact is EXTREMELY relevant to his character, no matter what the timing of the story.
Diane Sawyer isn't a journalist. They barely exist in this country today. She is, however, a biased bitch-faced cunt.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||05/10/2012|
r33: I was waiting on the street for my father to get the car out of a parking garage.
She was getting in her limo when she noticed me looking at her. She sat down and then yelled "excuse me young man" .....then she gave the driver directions and sat there staring ahead with her chin in the air like she was royalty and I'd committed some sin. Then as the car drove away she turned and glared at me like she was genuinely aghast and wounded by our encounter. I think Maggie Smith based her Downtown Abbey character on Diane.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||05/10/2012|
She might even still be part of the (Republican/agency) government. Don't we find out later they had people in the media?
|by Anonymous||reply 41||05/10/2012|
I have no use for her. I think she has been in the closet for years.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||05/10/2012|
So what's Mike Nichols like (aside from being gay)? Why did he marry her if she's haughty, shallow, biased, & a narrow-minded power-crazed Republican? Is he like her, or what?
|by Anonymous||reply 43||05/10/2012|
oh. right. she's either a closet case or a knowing beard. no wonder she's anti-gay rights.

Where did she say this?
|by Anonymous||reply 61||05/10/2012|
Regardless what any of us think of her personally, it's out of bounds and unprofessional to suggest a causal link between the Whitehouse and the Wash Post unless she has some evidence the story was planted by the Obama team or was planned to coincide with the president's announcement about his support for marriage equality.
It's also really poor journalism to try to counter the story by talking to a classmate who wasn't there when any of the incidents happened and doesn't know a thing about them.

Are you freaking kidding me? How old are you and where were you during 9/11? To be more precise, it happened on live national TV on Good Morning America, February 20, 2001.
Google it (Diane Sawyer Jerry Falwell is all you need to enter), look up the transcript, do whatever you need to do to educate yourself and find out more about pivotal moments in gay history - this being one of them. Diane Sawyer stood up to Jerry Falwell's comments in an exchange that resulted in a full apology from the latter.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||05/10/2012|
R54 is hilarious. This is a good example of how the minds of internet dwelling conspiracy theorists work.
As much as I criticize Anderson, he was never in the CIA. He applied for a job and was rejected.
But facts are to played with in kooky-ville, so now the meme is what - Anderson worked for the CIA and his rejection story is cover?

[quote]As much as I criticize Anderson, he was never in the CIA. He applied for a job and was rejected.
Reason for rejection: Too festive
|by Anonymous||reply 66||05/11/2012|
I can't stand Diane Sawyer, but to say that she is conservative is ludicrous. Maybe at one time she was a Republican, but now she is very, very liberal.
I once read in a gossip website that Diane had an affair with the mystery writer Patricia Cornwell and there were rumors that there were other women she had sex with as well. So I guess Diane and her husband have a marriage of convenience.
Are many people on this thread new?!!! This is election time and things can get dirty, so it is very possible that this is mud being thrown at Romney.So Obama is not capable of mud slinging?!! A lot of gullible people on this thread who live very sheltered lives. I'm not surprised that this is going on.In fact, I think there will be much more slanderous things thrown to and fro to come as we get close to the final election day. This kind of stuff has been going on for years in presidential campaigns.
Besides, who gives a shit anyway? Romney acted like a jerk in college!! Big Woo!! That is so petty in comparison to much more important matters like gas prices, the economy, jobs,foreign affairs, the environment, etc.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||05/11/2012|
Whitney should have slapped her! But that was it, Sawyer was preying on her when she wasn't in a good state, then broacasted the whole tawdry thing, and that is how "crack is whack" was known. Sawyer didn't care, it was about getting some dirt on somebody and putting it out there for the ratings. Sawyer did a lot of "interviews" like that, all with the whispery fake intimate voice.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||05/11/2012|
She must loathe Robin Roberts. Fucking bitch.
|by Anonymous||reply 69||05/11/2012|

You think AC is allowed to travel the world and report just because he wants to?
|by Anonymous||reply 70||05/11/2012|
"Romney acted like a jerk in college!! Big Woo!!"
When one hears Rush and Glenn still howling over the whereabouts and contents of Obama's college transcripts, then college deeds of Mitty-boy are fair game for the fray, r67.
Get over yourself.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||05/11/2012|
Stop it with the college references - this happened in high school.
|by Anonymous||reply 72||05/11/2012|
[quote]You think AC is allowed to travel the world and report just because he wants to?
Like all the other reporters who want to? The ones on TV & in newspapers & on the internet daily? Were they all in the CIA too?
And allowed by who?
|by Anonymous||reply 73||05/11/2012|
[quote]You think AC is allowed to travel the world and report just because he wants to?
That's one of the most illogical questions I've ever read on DL.
Since when does any American, let alone a reporter for a big news organization, have to be "allowed" to travel?
|by Anonymous||reply 74||05/11/2012|
Don't watch ABC news it is definitely the worst of all 3 channels. The most sensational and exploitive reporting of the big 3.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||05/11/2012|
Another loon at R70, I see.
So your logic runs like this - we have no information that Anderson works for the CIA, therefore it is more likely than not that he works for the CIA.
The CIA doesn't allow its operatives to even discuss any connection with the CIA, which is why Anderson is free to admit that he applied for the job and was rejected.
And they sure as hell do not allow anyone to be hired if they're a blackmail risk, which Anderson Cooper surely is.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||05/11/2012|
R75, the news on NBC, CBS, and ABC are all complete crap.In fact, I can't believe there are people who still watch the garbage three. The best news stations are cable news stations.
|by Anonymous||reply 77||05/11/2012|
But first, wait...
She's a feminist media pioneer, practically patenting that fawning, creepy, touchy-feely, misty-eyed, head cocked, lean-in approach that paved the way for Oprah and a whole bevy of New Age soft focused soft focus "I care" crap that passes itself off as news or entertainment or some amalgam of both.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||05/11/2012|
I once heard that Diane used to be referred to in the media world as the black widow because she was so cutthroat.
|by Anonymous||reply 79||05/11/2012|
There is nothing remotely feminist about her, or your description, R78. Beauty queen, Republican helpmate, corporate media exploiter, careerist cuthroat is not the feminist way. She is a female, and a fake - not a feminist.
|by Anonymous||reply 80||05/11/2012|
R80, she considers herself a feminist, and so do others liberal females.
|by Anonymous||reply 81||05/11/2012|
irony - the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning
|by Anonymous||reply 82||05/11/2012|
R81: She may consider herself a feminist, a liberal, a serious, objective journalist, or the Queen of England or the godfather of punk, but it doesn't make it so in reality.
No real feminist thinks she is one. Feminists know that feminists are not allowed on network television.
|by Anonymous||reply 83||05/11/2012|
You sound like a laugh-riot, R82
|by Anonymous||reply 84||05/11/2012|
And you sound like a humorless cunt, R80, R83, R84, which makes me wonder that you and Sawyer might get along famously.
|by Anonymous||reply 85||05/11/2012|
now you really sound funny, R85!
|by Anonymous||reply 86||05/11/2012|
Actually, all the networks are asking the same question- including PBS, News Hour. It is always a legitimate question- as foul as it strikes us. Who knows? And does not take away from the truth in the story.
I have never been a particular fan of Sawyer's, but I happen to know she is very much a Democrat in private- was Republican long ago- Her husband, I believe is at least bisexual- saw him in full leather drag at the old Eagle decades ago down in the West Village.
A week ago everyone was throwing Obama under the bus with incendiary language- posters do the same all the time with Matt Laurer when he interviews some conservative- makes me angry too because I can't even stand to look at people like Anne Coulter. But network news anchors and such have to play this game of "balance" apparently- except on FOX and some MSNBC shows.
Calling her a whore etc, is equivalent to those who call us fags and treat us like shit. While I may side with the name callers on this thread- the sentiment and need to speak of others like that without looking a little more intelligently at the big picture is more or less the same dark human impulse that feeds bigotry in the first place.
You may now start calling me names.
|by Anonymous||reply 87||05/11/2012|
"You may now start calling me names."
lol! You made me laugh, charlie!
|by Anonymous||reply 88||05/11/2012|
Sawyer and hubby Nichols (a loathsome excuse for a human being, if ever there was one) obviously are the perfect couple.
|by Anonymous||reply 89||05/11/2012|
The network "game of balance" is a phony "balance" because it always, always, always, tilts toward the corporate, the right-wing, the establishment. "Freedom of the press is limited to those who own one."
You really have to look elsewhere (magazines, the better internet sites, European press) for news coverage that is not as rightwing-tilted.
|by Anonymous||reply 90||05/11/2012|
I tend to agree R90 which is why I put quotes around the word. I also stay away from network news- I watch News Hour which of course covered this story much better than ABC did, looks like. Then again, it was ABC that did the Obama interview- and they surely knew what was going to come of it. It's all about ratings.
|by Anonymous||reply 91||05/11/2012|
An entire blog detailing Diane Sawyer LIBERAL Bias delivering the news.
|by Anonymous||reply 92||05/11/2012|
R92, the rightwing nuts call the corporate media liberal because they are not saying Heil Hitler every five seconds like they want.
|by Anonymous||reply 93||05/11/2012|
Untrue R92. They are calling it liberal bias that she covered this story at all even though it was slanted right. The other stories on that blog have nothing to do with Diane Sawyer, for the most part. And when they do, it's for reporting what Republicans said, not for making a commentary about it.
|by Anonymous||reply 94||05/11/2012|
[quote]Besides, who gives a shit anyway? Romney acted like a jerk in college!! Big Woo!! That is so petty in comparison to much more important matters like gas prices, the economy, jobs,foreign affairs, the environment, etc.

From a 'New Yorker' profile of Nichols: "With Diane, he doesn't have to pretend not to be who he is to make a partner comfortable."
|by Anonymous||reply 96||05/11/2012|
Come, come, her husband's grandfather was Gustave Landauer, a minister in the Bavarian Soviet Socialist Republic. "Lenin, Liebknecht, Luxemburg, Landauer." Mike had to be whisked out of Germany quickly. Hardly a source of right wing bias.
|by Anonymous||reply 97||05/11/2012|
and from yahoo. voices re Kitty Kelly's book:
The book also alludes to what may have been an affair between Oprah and Diane Sawyer. Oprah's past, according to Kitty Kelly the author of this book, is as laced with as much drama as anyone Oprah herself has interviewed on her stage.
|by Anonymous||reply 98||05/11/2012|
I'm tired of her patronizing, grandmotherly, grasping-her-pearls comments at the end of EVERY news story. She must really think she's cute and smart. Every time she makes one of these comments, I'm embarassed for her. Smug know-it-all.

[quote]The Washington Post's Mitt Romney was a teenage bully story has caused a lot of media thumbsucking today. However, questions about the story itself keep emerging. The Post acknowledges that one of the major sources for the story was an Obama campaign volunteer in 2008. Beyond that, the paper's been less than transparent. Here's the orginal version of the story: âI always enjoyed his pranks,â said Stu White, a popular friend of Romneyâs who went on to a career as a public school teacher and has long been bothered by the Lauber incident.â However, Matt Lewis of The Daily Caller noted that White told ABC News a different version of the story: White was not present for the prank, in which Romney is said to have forcefully cut a studentâs long hair and was not aware of it until this year when he was contacted by the Washington Post. After ABC News's report, the Post had changed its story. It now reads: âI always enjoyed his pranks,â said Stu White, a popular friend of Romneyâs who went on to a career as a public school teacher and said he has been âdisturbedâ by the Lauber incident since hearing about it several weeks ago, before being contacted by The Washington Post. âBut I was not the brunt of any of his pranks.â That is a pretty substantive change to the story, yet nowhere does the Post note that a correction/clarification has been made.
[quote]In addition, the Post story quotes the older sister of Romney's alleged bullying victim at the very end of the piece. Yet, when she was contacted by ABC News and asked for comment she was not happy with how her brother had been portrayed: She added she and her sisters will likely put out a statement later via a family attorney. âIf he were still alive today, he would be furious [about the story],â she said with tears in her eyes.
Given the quality of the reporting, perhaps we should also ask the Washington Post to fire the author
|by Anonymous||reply 100||05/11/2012|
That's why it's important that it was corroborated by five people not just by White, dumbass. It is redstate which is lying.
The sources were Matthew Freedeman, Philip Maxwell, Thomas Buford, and David Seed. One other has asked not to be identified.
Who was the "2008 campaign volunteer"? Your right wing blog doesn't say. Horowitz?
There were millions of volunteers for Obama in 2008, it doesn't mean they get their facts wrong or even that they were working for him in 2012.
Has Diana Sawyer recused herself because she worked for Nixon? No.
Have Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck noted that Bain Capital owns their shows, and that therefore they are direct employees of Mitt Romney? Of course not.
