Who runs it? I find a lot of it very funny, but some of it is pretty wretched and immature. Whoever runs it really has it in for that young woman who is the showrunner for GIRLS, and always harshes on her in a way that's pretty single-minded and unfunny, like he has it in for her.
The fugly guy who write the "I of the Tiger" working out column is pretty much a gym Nazi, and pretty dislikable. (He objects to having other people at the gym who are just trying to tone themselves and get healthier rather than those like himself who are there to push themselves and get very muscular.)

Link to this fitness Nazi, please.

can somebody start a thread on this link? it might be what changed the lives of ladybird bachmann and rick santorum... this is what the conservatives think of gays

OP, all I have heard is that Gawker's information is cut and paste, items taken out of context, made up BS, etc. I was told they are not even remotely creditable.

You don't get it.

You TOTALLY don't get it.

Nick Denton is an ugly bitch.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||10/12/2012|
Anyone who uses the phrase "harshes on her" has a single digit IQ.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||10/12/2012|
You shouldn't be reading Gawker if you're a hundred years old.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||10/12/2012|
Caity Weaver is the new Richard Lawson.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||10/12/2012|
Wow, I had no idea how hideous Nick Denton is! No wonder you don't see a lot of pics of him out there.
I wonder what the deal is with that ex of his current rent boy trashing Nick's apartment and throwing bricks at the windows like that. Someone on DL must have some info, so dish!
|by Anonymous||reply 10||10/12/2012|
Gawker is Corporate owned Media, just like Entertainment Tonight and Time Magazine. Why do people give it special status?
|by Anonymous||reply 11||10/12/2012|
Good question, R11.
Another good question is why that Page Six item wasn't picked up by other gossip sites? Is Nick busy behind the scenes trying to kill this story? Maybe someone should contact Gawker for a comment.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||10/12/2012|
What's more pathetic than the writers of Gawker are the awful commenters who sit responding to each other all day on Gawker thinking they are so "witty," "clever" and "wonky." They will never have the understanding of pop culture and panache that the majority of DL posters possess.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||10/12/2012|
If panache means that green stuff growing between my ass cheeks, then yes.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||10/12/2012|
Nick's expression in that Page Six pic looks pretty pinched, doesn't it? I bet he's the bossiest of bottoms.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||10/12/2012|
Who's Nick's bf? And why is his ex so pissed?
|by Anonymous||reply 16||10/12/2012|
They messed up the commenting section, now there's only a smattering of interesting or smart people commenting - the rest is just your standard racist, neanderthal ignorant right wingnuts who populate most comment threads on the net.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||10/12/2012|
Word on the street is that Nick Denton is a major coke head, and that all sorts of shenanigans (involving strung up hookers) and drama erupts at his place. This Page Six item is just the tip of the iceberg.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||10/12/2012|
"They will never have the understanding of pop culture and panache that the majority of DL posters possess."
Make that "minority" and I agree. The majority of the posters on here are misogynists, anti-semites, racists and clinically unhinged.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||10/12/2012|
More details, R18. Let's get some real gossip going.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||10/12/2012|
The coke thing makes sense, given how he suddenly junks the site from time to time.
And "junk" is the right word. The site these days is crap, sadly. I used to love going there. No more.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||10/12/2012|
I think that whole Bridezilla piece was contrived. Not necessarily by Gawker, but by some enterprising prank and friends who wanted to see how far their creation got in the interwebz. The mysterious source remains mysterious, but there are, supposedly, nine other potential bridesmaids out there, at least one of whom had to have talked to someone about it. Nothing's bubbled up in the way of verification?
|by Anonymous||reply 22||10/12/2012|
Anyone remember the good 'ole days with Chorie Sicha? They were quite funny back then.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||10/12/2012|
[quote]You don't get it.
You don't get their critiques.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||10/12/2012|
Oh, enough quibbling about their editorial quality. This is a gossip board! Let's have the dirt on Denton!
|by Anonymous||reply 25||10/12/2012|
r9, totally agree, I love her. Max Read is funny on Twitter but pretty hit or miss on Gawker. The commenters are godawful.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||10/12/2012|
I could never understand how Choire Sicka got involved with Gawker - too sincere. For a few years he was sub for every Gawker site. It was like having an overly-nice substitute teacher who was afraid of the ADD kids.
That said, they lost politics when they tossed out Wonkette. When they try - last night's debate for example - they don't get true political junkies.
They dropped Consumerist, Consumerist was eaten by Consumer Reports, and now there's no Ben Popken. He was a delightful nerd. Gawker should get him back.
I wish Rich would find a boyfriend. His non-pop culture articles are painful and wistful. He reminds me of the cult leader on MadTV who says everyone must commit suicide because his girlfriend hasn't returned his phone calls.
I've noticed that they're slipping in more links without comment. New stuff would be cool, but you've seen most of the links elsewhere already.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||10/12/2012|
Denton's drug-fueled sex parties are becoming a bit too notorious in certain circles. No doubt shit's gonna hit the fan pretty soon and the lurid details of his "unusual lifestyle" will be fully exposed. I wonder if Gawker will report on it when that happens.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||10/13/2012|
I want to hear more about those kinky sex parties, r28! Denton looks like a messy pass-around bottom whore.
What's the scoop on that angry ex of his current bf?
|by Anonymous||reply 29||10/13/2012|
I would fuck Adrian Chen.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||10/13/2012|
Drug-fueled sex parties? Which drug? What kind of sex? More details, please.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||10/13/2012|
[quote]They messed up the commenting section, now there's only a smattering of interesting or smart people commenting
I don't get his commenting section at all. It's not user-friendly. It doesn't look like anything is in chronological order and the 2-column format is hard to read. I can't believe they make you click on each reply in order to read them. Who can be bothered to click that much. I think most people just read the first few comments and give up. How do people put up with this?
|by Anonymous||reply 32||10/13/2012|
Of the current Gawker masthead, I'd rank them as follows:
1) Caity Weaver - as another poster said, the biggest talent to come out of Gawker since Richard Lawson.
2) Adrien Chen - his takedown of that scumbag troll on Reddit yesterday was a thing of beauty and a joy forever and was also just plain excellent investigative journalism.
3) Hamilton Nolan - A lot of people hate him, but I think there's a fine mind and a lot of heart behind all his grumpy snark. Also, I of the Tiger > anything Men's Health has ever published.
4) Max Read - I agree with the poster who said he's awesome of Twitter but can be hit and miss on Gawker. He kind of overlaps with Caity and Adrien in terms of the subject matter he tends to cover and suffers in comparison to both of them.
5) Cord Jefferson - a shit stirrer, but a talented one.
5) Rich Juzwiak - a step up from Brian Moylan, but that's hardly saying much. I don't think anyone even reads his daily music postings and his gay culture pieces almost always read like Modern Love rejects.
6) John Cooke - hates Lena Dunham and rustles up the accompanying images? That's pretty much what he does there, right?
7) Neetzan Zimmerman - Cat video aggregator.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||10/13/2012|
All of them except Caity Weaver are awful.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||10/13/2012|
They fired Louis Peitzman?! Anybody know why?
|by Anonymous||reply 35||10/13/2012|
R33, do you have pics of all of them? I can't judge them without their pics.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||10/13/2012|
[quote]Adrien Chen - his takedown of that scumbag troll on Reddit yesterday was a thing of beauty and a joy forever and was also just plain excellent investigative journalism.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||10/13/2012|
It's on their front page, R37. How hard could it be to find?
|by Anonymous||reply 38||10/13/2012|
[quote]Drug-fueled sex parties? Which drug? What kind of sex? More details, please.
According to Brian Moylan, who used to work for Denton at Gawker until last year, Nick's drugs of choice are coke and Tina, and the sex parties involved mostly rent boys and the occasional porn star. All taking place at Nick's fancy bachelor pad in Soho.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||10/14/2012|
R39, who were the other invitees? Moylan and the gay Gawker staffers? Denton's gay BFF publishing associates? Just rent boys and porn stars using Denton as the pass-around bottom?
|by Anonymous||reply 40||10/14/2012|
[quote]The majority of the posters on here are misogynists, anti-semites, racists and clinically unhinged.
R19 = JAP Fish jealous because we provide such verificatia of sucking so much uncut Latino sizemeat!
|by Anonymous||reply 41||10/14/2012|
Someone should contact Brian Moylan and ask for more details. Now that he no longer works for Gawker, he might serve some juicy dish about his ex-boss.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||10/14/2012|
No it wasn't r33.
Chen's piece was a morass of unfocused, sprawling half-thoughts that read like one half of a tech nerd convo at a trendy cafe.
It was in dire need of an editor.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||10/15/2012|
Worst written set of sites on the internet. None of them can spell or even finish sentences. They may as well have monkey writing that shit and half of their posts are just shilling products they're paid to advertise. The other half is old content stolen from Reddit. And .1% is garbage Adrien Chen picking fights with Reddit because no one kissed his ass during his AMA and Rich bloviating about being a newborn whore. On top of the illiterate and inane writers, their sites completely crash and freeze Safari on iPads. It was much better when Choire was still there; absolute trash heap of the internet now, only Buzzfeed is worse.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||10/15/2012|
Regardless of its origin, r44, I thought there were some good, albeit inchoate, points in Chen's Reddit troll article.
It was the actual writing that ruined it. It didn't strike me as a revenge piece.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||10/15/2012|
Oh noes. We get invaded by freepers and now Reddit trolls serving their fallen master.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||10/15/2012|
It's pretty awful, although something compels me to keep returning. Mostly, I think it's like watching a wreck happen. I'm interested in seeing how these writers immolate over time. All of them completely lack self awareness and are incapable of editing and since there is no strong editorial hand reigning any of them in they come up with some of the most idiotic and damaging tripe on the internet. The vast majority of Gawker graduates are jokes who will never survive as writers. The current crop is the worst they've had in years.
While Denton's bizarre philosophy may work in theory, in practice it's a total disaster. Its abundantly clear that his sites' sole purpose is to serve as an ego boost and a source of income for his massive drug and escort addiction. I can't imagine being an aspiring writer and thinking that site in its current form could lead anywhere career-wise.
It's utter garbage. Sometimes compelling garbage, but garbage nonetheless.
And the commenters don't hold a candle to this place. Not even close.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||10/15/2012|
Today, Gawker through Adian Chen id'd the real name of the child porn person & I think it's great.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||10/15/2012|
It's always had its ups and downs. The commenters, the majority who seem to be female, seem to try and be the wittiest ones.
The worst was a few years ago when they kept trying to make this girl named Julia Allison happen and no matter how hard they tried, it wouldn't take because she just wasn't that interesting.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||10/15/2012|
The Atlantic Wire is the new Gawker.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||10/15/2012|
[quote]all sorts of shenanigans (involving strung up hookers)
Strung UP, or strung OUT? I'm confused.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||10/15/2012|
Ha, not even close r49. Not a writer.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||10/15/2012|
Gawker never tried to promote Julia Allison - they mercilessly skewered her, esp. when she was dating Jakob Lodwick. It was great fun to read those posts.
|by Anonymous||reply 54||10/15/2012|
No R54, they were actually stealthily trying to give her a boost. They actually had an article about she visited their offices and how she and that Emily chick hung out. The whole thing was trying to make her look like they hated her but they were relentlessly promoting her. And she never happened.
Because she sucked.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||10/15/2012|
The new girl Mallory Ortberg, or whatever, is awful.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||10/15/2012|
[quote]Ha, not even close [R49]. Not a writer.
But you might be a recently unemployed programmer with a missus suffering from fibromyalgia... Or have a close association.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||10/15/2012|
See the Reddit Troll thread, R58.

R58, it's what this other thread is about:
