Who had the first to show their penis on Broadway?

Share your memories of live penis sightings!

by Anonymousreply 9006/24/2013

Bea Arthur in THE THREEPENNY OPERA

by Anonymousreply 103/30/2012

First Broadway penis - Randy Becker in "Love, Valour, Compassion." Later saw him up close and personal at the old McBurney 'Y' on 23rd St. Beautiful man.

by Anonymousreply 203/30/2012

Michael Cervaris in The Vibrator Play. Juicy flaccid one, nice set of balls and from what I could see he was cut. Ass was a teeny bit saggy, but very smooth.

by Anonymousreply 303/30/2012

Maxwell Caulfield in SALONIKA. Legendary ass, legs and feets.

by Anonymousreply 403/30/2012

oops make that "who was" not who had

by Anonymousreply 503/30/2012

I saw "Equus" just for the nudity. As the film proved, Peter Firth was huge. A replacement, Jacob Milligan was also well hung. I saw Tom Hulce in LA and when the pants came off, I was sadly disappointed.

by Anonymousreply 603/30/2012

Well, Oh Calcutta had penises (including William Macy from Maude) back in 1969 or 70, and there were numerous replacement penises.

by Anonymousreply 703/30/2012

I remember seeing Peter Firth in EQUUS in 1974 and John Shea in YENTL in 1975.

by Anonymousreply 803/31/2012

>>>including William Macy from Maude

EWWWWWWW!

by Anonymousreply 903/31/2012

Salonaka was off-Broadway. But, Caulfield was the most memorable, because of his superb penis & body and the length of his nudity.

He was naked for nearly the entire play.

by Anonymousreply 1003/31/2012

Jude Law in Indiscretions in the 90s. He was not famous yet but I remember checking the program for his name when he stood up from the bathtub on stage. Gorgeous! I later read later that the crew would sometimes mess with him by filling the tub with ice water. Looked good when I saw him though.

by Anonymousreply 1103/31/2012

"Bea Arthur in THE THREEPENNY OPERA"

You're a fucking liar!

Bea did that show Off-Broadway

by Anonymousreply 1203/31/2012

John Lithgow and the rest of the cast in "The Changing Room"

by Anonymousreply 1303/31/2012

Lionel Barrymore in "Miss Julie."

by Anonymousreply 1403/31/2012

The hustler in BENT. Had a huge dick and the Richard Gere character has trouble walking after getting fucked all night.

by Anonymousreply 1503/31/2012

April 29, 1968 -

first act curtain - the original cast of HAIR.

In her memoir, Diane Keaton says she was one of the few who DIDN'T go naked. But future Oscar winner Paul Jabara certainly did, as did the authors James Rado and Gerome Ragni.

Those were the first penii shown on Broadway.

Tallulah Bankhead in "The Eagle has Two Heads."

by Anonymousreply 1703/31/2012

What did Shea's dick look like, r8?

by Anonymousreply 1807/17/2012

I saw Johnny Galecki in The Little Dog Laughed. He played a rent boy. He's hung like a horse. So nice to see such a big cock on a little guy.

by Anonymousreply 1907/17/2012

John Benjamin Hickey in Love, Valour, Compassion!

by Anonymousreply 2007/17/2012

why does doing it on stage make it art, but if you do it in a porn mag you're a whore?

by Anonymousreply 2107/17/2012

[quote]why does doing it on stage make it art, but if you do it in a porn mag you're a whore?

Because of me!

by Anonymousreply 2207/17/2012

My first was Peter Firth in 'Equus.' It was one of those plays where they allowed you to sit on stage. I had an up close and personal view of Peter's beautiful, all-natural, uncircumcised penis.

by Anonymousreply 2307/17/2012

Mrs. Fiske in "Salvation Nell."

by Anonymousreply 2407/17/2012

Madonna in "Goose & Tomtom."

by Anonymousreply 2507/17/2012

I have seen many more off broadway than broadway, including some actors who have become famous.

by Anonymousreply 2607/18/2012

r18 - I was 13 y/o at the time and sitting in between my parents so I didn't have a chance to stare as long as I would have liked to, but I wasn't disappointed :-) He is cut (he was playing a Hassidic Jew, so it would have been a little odd for him to get naked and show foreskin!)

by Anonymousreply 2707/18/2012

r19 - I wouldn't call this "hung like a horse" but Galecki is certainly respectable. :-)

by Anonymousreply 2807/18/2012

FYI - Peter Firth has been on the British TV show SPOOKS for 10 years.

He is no relation to Oscar-winner Colin Firth.

Sadly, the link below will show what Peter firth looks like now.

r19/"Ciaran" lies about everything, r28. Including his name, lol. By the way, whatever happened to Randy Backer, r2?

by Anonymousreply 3007/18/2012

Oh Calcutta at the Edison theatre 1983

by Anonymousreply 3107/18/2012

Tallulah Bankhead as Peter Pan in the Follies of 1922.

by Anonymousreply 3207/18/2012

Melvyn Douglas, TIME OUT FOR GINGER. The audience was shocked--we were all expecting a light family comedy. "Try this on for size, Ginger!" he screamed while ripping his clothes off. Very horrifying.

by Anonymousreply 3307/18/2012

It's so gratifying to know that for decades Broadway playwrights and directors have realized that their core audience consists of theater queens for whom porn alone is not enough.

by Anonymousreply 3407/18/2012

I am still obsessed with the nicely hung Latino actor from the original TAKE ME OUT. Have never seen him before or since. I was seated close-up right, just feet away from him and couldn't take my eyes off him. And he knew I was staring.

by Anonymousreply 3507/18/2012

R35

Anderson, is that you?

by Anonymousreply 3607/18/2012

[quote]I wouldn't call this "hung like a horse" but Galecki is certainly respectable. :-)

Added to the fact that Johnny is about 5'2", helps add to the legend. Put it on a 6'4" guy and it would look average.

by Anonymousreply 3707/18/2012

Political correctness and Bea Arthur not withstanding, I think that when we are talking about a single penis, we can properly refer to "his penis" rather than "his or her penis." We certainly cannot refer to "their penis," as though it were shared.

In any case, I am astonished by the number of people who imagine that the first penis exposed on the Broadway stage. Hair opened in 1968. The year before that, Martin Balsam starred in "You Know I Can't Hear You When the Water's Running," a show about an actor confronted with the dilemma of whether to accept a role that required him to come on stage nude, saying the line in the title. It's not a new phenomenon.

by Anonymousreply 3907/18/2012

No, I think the Latino actor's anme from Take Me Out is Robert Hernandez.

That photo is of the adorable Kohl Sudduth.

by Anonymousreply 4007/18/2012

Kohl Sudduth played "Luke Perry" in that quite funny 90210-behind-the-scenes take-off Point Pleasant.

by Anonymousreply 4107/18/2012

"I later read later that the crew would sometimes mess with him [Jude Law] by filling the tub with ice water."

Oh, yes. I'm sure that happened.

by Anonymousreply 4207/18/2012

Are you being sarcastic r42?

by Anonymousreply 4307/18/2012

My first stage nudity was also The Changing Room on Broadway in 1972.

In spite of about 20 hunky young actors playing English rugby players changing in and out of their muddy uniforms, it was just about the unsexiest presentation you could imagine. And the accents were indecipherable!

Take Me Out, on the other hand......

by Anonymousreply 4407/18/2012

We're doing this every night - just off broadway but you can sit real close. We have great currently memorable music as well!

by Anonymousreply 4507/19/2012

R45 50 year old men with shaved pubes do not boys make. This is the least entertaining show to hit the boards in decades.

by Anonymousreply 4607/19/2012

Fred Willard

But he was in the audience.

by Anonymousreply 4707/19/2012

The first nakedness I saw on Broadway was HAIR in 1971. I was age 9 at the time, and had very forward-thinking parents.

I also saw Equus in '76. That nudity is more memorable as I sat in one of the on-stage seats. I was a HS freshman then --- and nudity is especially memorable at that stage.

by Anonymousreply 4807/19/2012

Yes, R43, I am being sarcastic. Excuse me if I don't believe that the crew of a Broadway show with fill a tub with "ice water," knowing that one of the actors would need to be in the tub. Do YOU believe that actually happened?

by Anonymousreply 4907/19/2012

Professionals do NOT pull pranks like that.

by Anonymousreply 5007/19/2012

For me. When I was in college.. two shows. yes I am an elder.. HAIR and John Lithgow in THE CHANGING ROOM.

by Anonymousreply 5107/19/2012

I think a naked John Lithgow would make me leave the theatre.

by Anonymousreply 5207/20/2012

Are you calling Jude Law a liar!?!

by Anonymousreply 5307/20/2012

Harry Hamlin in Equus in SF. 70s

by Anonymousreply 5407/20/2012

John Lithgow was actually quite comely in 1972.

by Anonymousreply 5507/20/2012

What R55 said.... I saw it, boring play but Lithgow (and his penis) were hot.

by Anonymousreply 5607/20/2012

Helen Lawson in Our American Cousin.

by Anonymousreply 5707/20/2012

The lovely Daniel Sunjata and his castmates in 'Take Me Out.'

by Anonymousreply 5807/20/2012

James Remar may not have been the first penis I saw on Broadway but he had a massive member in BENT. He played Richard Gere's trick and had a full frontal scene.

by Anonymousreply 5907/21/2012

I remember DL fave Doogie Howser off Broaday in the Paris Letter.

by Anonymousreply 6007/21/2012

Is it now a rule that all Datalounge thread headlines be so ungrammatical as to be nearly indecipherable?

by Anonymousreply 6107/21/2012

And R60, also Josh Radnor in the same play in LA. Alas, he was very small or it was hidden in the forest of black pubes.

by Anonymousreply 6207/21/2012

My first was a fluffed James Remar in Bent I saw a version of O Calcutta that didn't really turn me on . Also Take Me Out twice in 2 days once with bad seats with darker skinned replacement and the second time with original actor and a MUCH better seat. I think Kohl was mad I was staring at his penis. I also saw another version of TMO in Indianpolis with a less hotter cast...

Very sad The Gaiety doesn't exist anymore. Sometimes it was the main reason I would travel to NYC via a 18 hour bus trip.

by Anonymousreply 6307/21/2012

R62 I love a forest of dark pubes...hot.

by Anonymousreply 6407/22/2012

More please...

by Anonymousreply 6507/23/2012

Also remember seeing "Yentl" during first trip to NY, with fellow UCLA students. Everyone in audience gasped in shock at the full male nudity when he takes off his pants to bathe in the lake in front of his "supposedly male" friend. Sitting too far back to get a close look, but remember the actor had a very buff body.

by Anonymousreply 6607/23/2012

{quote}John Lithgow was actually quite comely in 1972.

Comely? Something tells me that you were retired in 1972.

by Anonymousreply 6707/23/2012

[quote] [R19] - I wouldn't call this "hung like a horse" but Galecki is certainly respectable. :-)

I was like 14 years old at the time. It seemed pretty big to me....

by Anonymousreply 6807/23/2012

[quote]Jude Law in Indiscretions in the 90s. He was not famous yet but I remember checking the program for his name when he stood up from the bathtub on stage. Gorgeous! There was an understudy for Jude the night I went. Since I went to see the hot naked guy the NY Times mentioned, I was disappointed, especially later on when Jude Law became famous.

by Anonymousreply 6907/23/2012

[quote]James Remar may not have been the first penis I saw on Broadway but he had a massive member in BENT. He played Richard Gere's trick and had a full frontal scene.

Remar has a massive dick? How come it doesn't look that big here:

Everything looked BIG to me back then R70.

by Anonymousreply 7107/23/2012

Wendy Williams plans to in Chicago this summer.

by Anonymousreply 7204/15/2013

Because as I remember correctly R70, he was HARD. And the night I saw the performance, Gere was ill and had to leave the stage a couple of times to throw up, but completed the performance and even signed autographs for those who waited.

by Anonymousreply 7304/15/2013

Lorna Luft.

by Anonymousreply 7404/15/2013

I suggest you consult hitbycab, who I'm sure has extensive notes on this subject.

by Anonymousreply 7504/15/2013

[quote]Excuse me if I don't believe that the crew of a Broadway show with fill a tub with "ice water," knowing that one of the actors would need to be in the tub.

You're excused. Stuff happens. Especially after a show is well into a run. One night, a glass normally filled with grape juice, has real wine. An actor picks up a note pad that normally is blank and one night it has something funny written on it...

by Anonymousreply 7604/15/2013

So was "Hair" officially the first showing of naked dick on Broadway?

by Anonymousreply 7704/15/2013

I'm pretty sure it was Sondheim, but since it was to a twink in his infamous basement dungeon, I'm not sure it was technically "on" Broadway.

by Anonymousreply 7804/15/2013

"And Puppy Dog Tails" a gay-themed, off-off Broadway show in the early 70s.

by Anonymousreply 7904/15/2013

[quote]Wendy Williams plans to in Chicago this summer.

Will she be showing her dick?

by Anonymousreply 8004/15/2013

Sophie Tucker in "Our British Cousin".

by Anonymousreply 8104/15/2013

Boy meets Boy also showed dick.

by Anonymousreply 8204/16/2013

Bump

by Anonymousreply 8305/19/2013

John Wilkes Booth in Our American cousin

by Anonymousreply 8405/19/2013

Dawson in Dawson's Fifty Load Weekend:The Musical

by Anonymousreply 8505/19/2013

Did anyone see Brendan Fletcher in Equus? Apparently he went nude in that production.

by Anonymousreply 8605/19/2013

Keith Mitchell in Abelard and Heloise showed his dick, but his co-star Dame Diana Rigg didn't. Did anyone watch her last week in a Dr Who episode on BBC America? Fortunately she was completely clothed, but she's 74 and looks and acts every second of it. Very distant shades of Lady Emma Peel.

by Anonymousreply 8705/19/2013

by Anonymousreply 8806/07/2013

Paul Guillispie in the Broadway production of LET MY PEOPLE COME. Maxwell Caulfield in SALONIKA. Peter Firth in EQUUS. John Lithgow & entire cast in THE CHANGING ROOM. James Remar in BENT. William Macy & cast in OH! CALCUTTA.

by Anonymousreply 8906/24/2013

[quote] Keith Mitchell in Abelard and Heloise showed his dick, but his co-star Dame Diana Rigg didn't

That's hardly surprising.
