Santorum Retakes Lead in Michigan

February 27, 2012

Mitchell Research & Rosetta Stone

Santorum 37%

Romney 35%

Gingrich 9%

Paul 8%

EAST LANSING, Mich. 􀂲 With a strong, successful push over the weekend to move conservatives, especially social conservatives, back to him, Rick Santorum has re-taken the lead in the latest Mitchell/Rosetta Stone Poll of Michigan conducted for MIRS (Michigan Information & Research Service) Sunday night. The two front runners are still in a statistical dead heat, although Romney (35%) has lost his lead to Rick Santorum (37%) while Newt Gingrich (9%) and Ron Paul (8%) are locked in a battle for third place. Eleven percent remains undecided.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 8402/29/2012

where has he won that there hasnt been a question of voter fraud ?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 102/27/2012

If you can stomach it, I hope that Democrats on here will go and vote for Mr Santorum.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 202/27/2012

It's kinda fun watching the GOP have a collective nervous breakdown.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 302/27/2012

florida R1, but then who would notice vote fraud there?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 402/27/2012

I read the title of this thread as "Santorum Leaks in Michigan", and I thought, "This headline couldn't have passed muster at any remotely sensible or aware media outlet."

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 502/27/2012

Mitten's may have bought a win in Maine, as well.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 602/27/2012

I live in Michigan R2, and I've been contemplating voting in the Repug primary. You don't have to be registered to participate. You just have to pick which party's primary you want to vote in.

I'd love to see the GOP in a panic, but don't know if I can actually check a box with the word Santorum next to it.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 702/27/2012

It's a primary; how could registered Democrats vote for Santorum. How often do you vote? Primaries require you to vote for the party you are registered for.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 802/27/2012

In the states that Santorum has won, he's tended to outperform polls that appear in the days before the vote.

Please, please, PLEASE let him win Michigan. The ensuing GOP meltdown will be ... just ... DELICIOUS.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 902/27/2012

You can do it, r7. WE BELIEVE IN YOU!

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1002/27/2012

R8, not in all states. Some states have open primaries.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1102/27/2012

Romney left the state for the weekend.

Dumbass.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1202/27/2012

R11 is right. It's open in Michigan. You can pick which party's ballot you want. But, you can only get one or the other, no double dipping. Um, {{ewwww Santorum}}

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1302/27/2012

R7, do it Do It DO IT! xo.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1402/27/2012

All hell would break loose on the right if Romney lost Michigan. This must happen.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1502/27/2012

2 points is within the SEM. But saying that would require the lazy, stupid media types to come up with another topic for reporting.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1602/27/2012

They took a poll and found most people in Michigan feel the trees are either too small or too tall. This is what has been driving Santorum's surge.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1702/27/2012

Oh this is better than the Oscars and Asshole Trump's Celebrity Apprentice.

By the way Donald, what are your thoughts about Mittens now?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1802/27/2012

Lazy and stupid presidents are easier to control for the real movers and shakers in the world. Crazy people are a loose cannon. I would have pegged opportunistic fat pig Christie to be the puppet masters' choice for the presidential race.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 1902/27/2012

I hate Santorum but hopes he kicks Mitten's sanctimonious ass in Michigan.

After Mitt's views on abandoning Detroit, he does not deserve to win the state.

Michiganers would be retarded to vote for him based on what his views are on letting that state go bankrupt and destroy itself.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2002/27/2012

Go Ricky go!!!

Just to give Mittens "I had Cadillacs" downfall. Asshole.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2102/27/2012

Yes, those of us Democrats that live in Michigan should vote for Santorum. The race is very close right now, and Mittens is desperate to win.

A loss for Mittens tomorrow night would be the worst thing that has ever happened to him so far and it would cause massive blowups in the Republican Party!

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2202/27/2012

R16, you are right that the poll is obviously within the margin of error.

I think the point that the pollsters are making is that a few days ago Romney was ahead, and so this poll appears to show a reversal in momentum.

Bottom line is that whether Mittens is a few points ahead or a few points behind, it was not supposed to be this close in his home state.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2302/27/2012

2nd poll gives Santorum narrow lead:

American Research Group, Inc.

Santorum 36%

Romneyt35%

Pault15%

Gingricht8%

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2402/27/2012

Oh goody, he's so much fun!

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2502/27/2012

Romney is Michigan royalty. He won't lose. Many of those in charge are loyal to him.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2602/27/2012

Why is he Michigan loyalty? He left the state and never looked back, and has betrayed them.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2702/27/2012

Could Democrats give Santorum a boost in Michigan?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2802/27/2012

Daily Kos article on Dems voting for Santorum.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 2902/27/2012

R26 do y0u mean stuffing the ballot box?

Cause other than the 1%., he alienated all of Michigan with his constant taunts that they should all be jobless.

Worthless freaks on Romney's part, he likes to take them down smaller when he bankrupts them.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3002/27/2012

Exactly, R30.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3102/27/2012

Newt is screwt!

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3302/27/2012

If Santorum does squeak by tomorrow the official Republican spin will be that it was only because of Democratic mischief-making in the open primary. The big money men are going to give Romney the nomination, but the longer this drags on the weaker he looks. It's going to hurt him in the general election. Assuming there's no massive economic disaster this year all the smart money is on Obama winning.

My biggest worry is what Republicans will do when they lose again to Obama. You think they're nuts now? Just wait. They won't blame themselves. With Rush & Fox egging them on,I fear another OK City bombing or maybe an assassination.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3402/27/2012

Mitt should be able to win his home state of Michigan by a large margin.

He won't be able to blame his loss on Democrats.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3502/28/2012

No but it was a mistake for Daily Kos to do something so public, so as to give Romney an excuse.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3602/28/2012

R36, it's not as if it's a secret. People have been voting in each other's primaries for years now.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3702/28/2012

That's politics, r36. Whining about it would only make Romney look worse. His campaign would never even go there imho, and if they did: all the better. He'd look like a whiner.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3802/28/2012

Maybe not, R36. The point is to keep this going all long as possible. If Santorum wins, it will be good to have it seem like a weak, illegitimate win.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 3902/28/2012

R38 is right.

If Romney starts complaining that he lost Michigan because of the Democrats, it will make him look like a baby.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4002/28/2012

But they could have done it with an email tree like the republicans use, not a public declaration.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4102/28/2012

[quote]I want Romney destroyed. I want him humiliated and pulverized into dust.

My sentiments exactly. I don't want him anywhere near the White House, so much so that I cheer for evil lunatics like Santorum and Newt when they are able to beat him in the primaries. That's pretty bad.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4202/28/2012

R41, Santorum's campaign was actually telephoning Democrats in Michigan today asking them to vote for him.

So the whole operation is out in the open.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4302/28/2012

Rosetta Stone is in the polling business?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4402/28/2012

Gale Research is the only Michigan company whose research should be trusted!

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4502/28/2012

According to the link, Mitchell/Rosetta Stone has been the most accurate pollster in Michigan in every election since 1992

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4602/28/2012

There's a Republican talking head on Bloomberg this morning who is already spinning Romney's loss in Michigan. In a page right out of the Repub playbook, when all else fails, blame the Democrats:

"Mitt will get the Republican votes, but the Democratic crossover voters may cost him the win."

I suspect their own polling is showing something pretty scarey for the Romney Camp.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4702/28/2012

Romney has left the state. No longer working the crowd. Makes me think the fix is in...it is not how many votes you get, but how they are counted.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4802/28/2012

Nate Silver is predicting Romney to win by about 1%.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 4902/28/2012

Santorum is leading Mittens in Michigan. Mittens just won Arizona.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5002/28/2012

[quote]Nate Silver is predicting Romney to win by about 1%.

Tonight, sure, but haven't we learned to wait a week until the real totals come in?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5102/28/2012

Fingers crossed for Santorum!

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5202/28/2012

Romney is up by 2%.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5302/28/2012

If the exit polls hold up, Romney will win by 3%

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5402/28/2012

Why do you want Santorum to win, r52?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5502/28/2012

Watching MSNBC and even they say it's too close to call. about 8,000 voters difference right now in Mitt's favor.

They have a Republican congressman on right now and even he admitted this is bad for Romney (the guy is a Romney supporter).

The fact that Santorum could even get this close shows how bad a candidate Mitt is.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5602/28/2012

R55, the real question is: Why don't you want him to win?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5702/28/2012

Romney is showing strength in the cities, and that's where the early votes will be coming from. No surprise he's ahead at this point.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5802/28/2012

I can't vote in the Repubulican Primary if I'm a registered Dem?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 5902/28/2012

Of course I hate Romney but I guess he's like most all Republicans, simply ignorant.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6002/28/2012

R42 I was watching, they raked that guy over the coals. He couldn't defend Mitt on his wanting Detroit to tank.

He kept bringing up the problems of the Wall Street evildoers. Umm, aren't they all Republicans?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6102/28/2012

Rachel also pointed out that she had Mitt's top Michigan guy on for 10 minutes and got him to basically say Mitt was totally wrong on the auto-maker bailouts. She drew a red line around how everyone who threw their support behind Mitt can't even make it seem believable anymore.

His own people don't even believe in him anymore.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6202/28/2012

Chris Matthews said that he doesn't think Romney's people can control him. Mitt was a boss, he isn't used to hearing advice.

He also added if Romney ends up becoming President, he'll be one of the most arrogant EVER.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6302/28/2012

Rumer Santorum next to her father.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6402/28/2012

Looks like Santourm is finished in Michigan.

Catholics went to Romney instead of him.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6502/28/2012

His daughter looks like a moron with the smiling, nodding, phony concern and laughter. She acts more like a politician's wife than her own mother.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6602/28/2012

Oh yes, "Obamacare."

Hey, fuckface, who is paying for your sick daughter's medical care?

I hate the people cheering for this asshole. WTF is wrong with them?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6702/28/2012

He's finished, r67.

It's Mitt Romney from here on out.

God help us.

Wait, did Santorum just talk about something being crisp, and stiff?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6802/28/2012

[quote]I can't vote in the Repubulican Primary if I'm a registered Dem?

In Michigan, the Democrats can vote in this primary. They usually try to skew the vote away from the winner.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 6902/28/2012

why wouldn't a michigan democrat vote for Santorum? I don't think Obama has a chance against Romney.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7002/28/2012

Did Romney just say he was going to send Barack back home where he belongs?

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7102/28/2012

I am hoping for a huge blowout tomorrow morning with accusations of voting fraud and intimidation, throwing the results in MI into question for days.

I shall smirk with smirky smirk if this occurs.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7202/28/2012

Mitt's speech is a bunch of warmed over, fake talking point lies. The crowd behind him desperately wants to go home.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7302/28/2012

Are you crazy? The GOP wants Obama to win again...why do you think they put up such a bunch of circus clowns? No. They do not want to be president.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7402/28/2012

Had Santorum not said that Obama was a snob for encouraging higher education and said that Kennedy's speech (maybe this explains why Michigan Catholics went for Romney) about the separation of church and state made him want to throw up, he might very well have won.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7502/28/2012

[quote]I don't think Obama has a chance against Romney.

You can't possibly be serious R70. Romney has turned out to be a dreadful candidate. He makes errors, gaffes, and mistakes nearly every time that he opens his mouth to speak. Many people just don't like him. Yes, he may have won in Michigan, but it should never have even been this close -- in his "home" states especially against an idiotic buffoon like Rick Santorum.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7602/28/2012

Actually, if people want Obama for a second term, they should hope that Romney gets the Republican ticket. Right wing Christian Republicans will not vote for a Mormon, because in their eyes he's not a Christian. They'll either stay home, or go through the motions to vote, but not choose anyone for president.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7702/28/2012

Nobody likes Romney. He's the epitome of 1%, gaffe prone, out of touch and MORMON.

The Mormon alone will cause Evangelicals to sit out this election. Romney can barely survive in his own party, let alone against Obama.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7802/28/2012

R77, the exit polls in Arizona showed exactly what you just said.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 7902/28/2012

[quote]He makes errors, gaffes, and mistakes nearly every time that he opens his mouth to speak.

Just like Dubya and we all know how well that turned out for eight years.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 8002/28/2012

Wishful thinking would be if they just viewed a Romney-Obama election as God telling them to do a Jonestown.

Go home to Jesus, freaks.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 8102/28/2012

Romney wins Michigan.

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 8202/28/2012

R68, Romney is not out of the woods yet.

He is still the favorite, but it's going to take him a while to wrap it up, and he's looking at multiple losses next Tuesday in the Southern states, and maybe in Ohio

by 2012 Poll Trollreply 8302/29/2012

Southern people aren't all stupid, believe it or not.
