Howard Stern Plays The Last Tapes of Judy Garland

Unheard until recent years.

Man, what a fucked up woman.

She goes on and on about everyone stealing her fucking money.

She tried killing one of her husband, holding a butcher knife above his head while he slept.

She also got ECT.

by Anonymousreply 5110/31/2014

Son of bitches!

by Anonymousreply 101/10/2012

But shhheee was shhhho funny! Shheee had wonderful shhhow bizsshhh shhhtories!

by Anonymousreply 201/10/2012

How did these tapes become public in the first place? She didn't actually turn them in to a publishing house, did they?

Were they just among personal effects that Liza sold off after her death without ever listening to them or something?

by Anonymousreply 301/10/2012

Thou shalt not cast aspersions on JUDY! Blasphemy in the highest!

by Anonymousreply 401/10/2012

Weren't these "Toilet Tapes" put out in part on a CD collection called JUDY GARLAND SPEAKS?

I always wanted to put all the names she calls Sid Luft onto a t-shirt with his picture, or a cartoon balloon with Judy screaming "I can't stand the stench of Sid Luft."

by Anonymousreply 601/10/2012

Judy Garland or Courtney Love?

by Anonymousreply 801/10/2012

I got my dipsshomaniacal paranoia from my mother and my dreamssh from my father!

by Anonymousreply 1101/10/2012

Are these the "Judy Speaks!" tapes? Those tapes have been around for at least 20 years if not longer. I remember hearing of him playing them on his show years ago. Maybe he figured people forgot that and no one would notice him doing it again. I mean, everything seems to be recycled now anyway.

by Anonymousreply 1201/10/2012

When is the last time Stern had an original idea?

by Anonymousreply 1301/10/2012

It's time for him and his show to vanish, R9

Agree with R10

so sick of all that crap

by Anonymousreply 1501/10/2012

I think he's gonna wrap things up within the next two years.

Let's face it, before he took the America's Got Talent gig, nobody gave two shits about him, or his crap radio show.

by Anonymousreply 1701/10/2012

"My wounds, I'd like to tape."

by Anonymousreply 1801/10/2012

R10 is not a "frau" - R10 is correct.

His show is paint-by-numbers crude nihlism for the stupid. Same crap over and over. And it's all mainstream. Ugh. Howard Stern and rap and toxic waste and reality tv etc etc.

by Anonymousreply 1901/10/2012

Stern was just doing what he always does. His forte is bad taste and his fans love it.

Those tapes were made in a preparation for an autobiography Garland made a half-hearted attempt to create. She's obviously drunk or stoned, ranting and raving incoherently. She's mad at hell, but at who? It's unclear who she's raging at.

Unbelieveably, she denies being a drug addict or alcoholic! She says that "the stupid ones" are the ones who believe that. She asks how she could do concerts and tv shows and movies if she's a addict/alcoholic? Well, she was on speed a lot of the time, and that can certainly make you energetic and productive. But the drugs derailed her career and made her incapable of working, so that "I must not be a drug addict because I made a lot of movies and tv and concerts" excuse was pure bullshit.

Garland also left some paperwork behind after her death. It was pages from the aborted biography and it included some outrageous lies. That worshipful biographer of hers, a queen named Gerald Clarke, took everything the loopy Judy claimed as gospel truth. She came to hate her mother and blame her for everything, including her drug addiction. And in those papers she left behind she claimed her mother starting pouring pills down her and her throat at the age of TEN, quoting her mother as saying "I've got to keep these girls going!" Judy's sister Virgina disputed these accusations but the Judy-loving Clarke swallowed them hook, line and sinker.

by Anonymousreply 2101/10/2012

R4, the point, as you periciously insult the person you will be some day, is not that it is foul to cast aspersions of Judy Garland.

It is foul to broadcast and gloat over the travesty presented by a psychologically damaged woman, drunk and stoned and playing, as always, to an audience.

But you cannot fathom that, can you? Shall we explain the piece of you that is missing?

by Anonymousreply 2201/10/2012

Hardly a frau, you ass. I'm sick of the over-processed porn teen Queens, I'm sick of the rich and crash porn Queens, I'm sick of everybody laughing at the weakest of the weak and calling it comedy, I'm sick of frat boys using sports analogies for every fucking thing because they lack a basic English vocabulary, I'm sick of middle-aged women borrowing their daughter's clothes and acting like a pre-menopausal mess, I'm sick of frat boys who still think it's cool to pull girls ponytails,

and I'm sick to death of the comedic-free apologists who this this shit off as 'comedy' because they aren't smart enough to differentiate it from tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 2301/10/2012

yeah! agree with R22 & R23

by Anonymousreply 2401/10/2012

Uh r22, I wasn't being facetious. I really am an elder gay and I really do believe Judy is sacred. She was an amazing performer who was used and abused by everyone around her. She was also, to my knowledge, a friend to the gays. I know its hard to see the forest for the trees on this place, but there are some of us who are really sincere.

by Anonymousreply 2501/10/2012

Lighten up Queens, its funny. In case you haven't heard, ol' Judy has been worm food for years.

by Anonymousreply 2601/10/2012

You should know that this Stern show is from 2001.

by Anonymousreply 2701/10/2012

One of the top-to-bottom stupidest posts I've ever seen on DL. Rage addicts and trolls in every reply.

by Anonymousreply 2801/10/2012

All I can say is that it is very unkind and cruel to make fun, mock or laugh at someone who isn't well and suffering. Addiction is a terrible illness that takes many forms and many lives. It definitely claimed Judy, the world lost a great, great entertainer but more importantly her children lost a parent because of it. Be kind, be compassionate, be understanding.

#29 = MARRRYYYYY!

by Anonymousreply 3110/31/2013

Well, in Howard's defense, the show is maybe six or seven years old. He talks about how he is "seeing someone" (who I am assuming is his current wife) who he married in 2008 or so.

by Anonymousreply 3210/31/2013

These are the "Judy Speaks" tapes and he's played them on his show before, years ago. I guess he figured everyone forgot that fact, seeing how brain damaged his audience is and it was okay to play them again with the same simpleminded comments.

It shows how truly bankrupt his show is; he's reduced to recycling stuff he's done before to fill air time. I've heard the tapes and I have to admit that to those unenlightened about what Judy was going through at that time in her life, that they would seem funny. But they're the a first hand look into the Judy's final phase of self destruction. When calling her a mess wasn't even coming close to describing her situation.

But that's how things are now; making fun of those that are sick, less fortunate or "different". It makes the morons listening feel superior I guess.

by Anonymousreply 3310/31/2013

This is a show from 2001 or something, brainiac at R33, not a recycled bit.

But god forbid you should find out what you're talking about before you start spewing.

by Anonymousreply 3410/31/2013

Sorry r34 but I don't listen to the Stern show so unlike you with your encyclopediac knowelege of the Stern show I did not realize it was a repeat airing. My point is the same though. He figured people wouldn't notice so he repeated this show. And the morons (like you for example), in the audience were none the wiser.

by Anonymousreply 3510/31/2013

The tapes are no big deal. There are plenty of tapes and videos that show celebrities at their worst. Celebrities get made fun of all the time; Lindsay Lohen's addiction has been joke fodder for a long, long time. Why should Judy Garland be sacrosanct?

Judy Garland set herself up for ridicule by her own insane behavior.

by Anonymousreply 3610/31/2013

Just because I find these tapes to be funny, sometimes shocking, and sad, doesn't mean I don't love, LOVE Judy with every bone of my body. SHE recorded those tapes. I'm sure at some level, she wanted someone to hear her. Why else would she recorded them? It's interesting to see another side of her. She's human. Yet every bit an icon.

by Anonymousreply 3710/31/2013

To Anonymous #31 = LOL...LOL...LOL

"GOD LOVE YA" !!!

by Anonymousreply 3810/31/2013

A serious question: Are the DL Judy fans old enough to actually remember her? She's been dead nearly half a century.

These threads fascinate me because the fans are still as dedicated as Gaga's Monsters or the Bieber fans, albeit without Twitter wars.

She seems to me like this generation's Anna Nicole Smith.

by Anonymousreply 3910/31/2013

Howard's celeb targets usually deserve it, and he's one of the few in the media who is in a position to tell it like it is. Because of his "bad boy" image, he has nothing to lose trashing lots of popular celebs.

Maybe he was over-the-line going after Judy though, I don't know. I've heard the tapes before and don't really want to listen to Stern talk about them. Judy was a good person, MGM got her hooked on pills and exploited her as much as they could, setting her up for a life of drunkenness and addiction. So if Stern wasn't sympathetic to that, and was just pointing and laughing at the drunk, that was wrong. His haters wouldn't be a good judge of whether he struck the right tone though. I've always liked his celebrity critiques and imagine he probably wasn't offensively cruel as some are saying.

by Anonymousreply 4010/31/2013

Yes, R38, and had those tapes surfaced in 1968, no one would have been surprised. Some of you are too ignorant and sentimental about JG to grasp the fact that she was a dead woman walking -- in public -- for that last five years of her life. It was no secret.

She was dead at least 30 years when Stern played the tapes.

by Anonymousreply 4210/31/2013

LOL They are funny. It's the first time I ever really liked her.

by Anonymousreply 4310/31/2013

Fie on you, OP! And that monster, Sid Luft!

by Anonymousreply 4411/02/2013

Mama?

by Anonymousreply 4511/02/2013

I've never listened to Stern's show or paid any attention to him. However, I have listened to a couple of long format interviews he did that were thoughtful and intelligent. No idea how he fills the air the rest of the time, but he is a good entertainment journalist on some level.

by Anonymousreply 4611/02/2013

I've never listened to him on the radio, I don't know if he was even on the radio in my area and now I'd have to subscribe to Sirius. But I love it when his fans link to him ranting about celebs, I can't remember ever disagreeing with his choice or targets or what he says about them. They have always deserved it imo, and he's usually the only one with the balls to say it.

So Howard fans, keep the links to his celebrity rants coming!

by Anonymousreply 4711/02/2013

agreed r46. He has really evolved over the years into a really interesting interviewer. Therapy and a new wife totally changed him.

by Anonymousreply 4811/02/2013

Judy was one of the most talented singers ever. [quote]She also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout her life. Despite that, she had a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Hollywood. At a time when gay people were oppressed beyond belief, they identified with her struggles and she theirs.

If you really believed that JP, you would change your insulting screen name, which only contributes to the image of Garland as a pill-popping no-talent better off forgotten, not an artist on the level of Sinatra or Picasso or Callas.

YOU and YOUR NAME are part of the problem, JP.

by Anonymousreply 4911/02/2013

R19 shut the fuck up.

by Anonymousreply 5007/25/2014

Weird shit!
