What brand do you wear? I always buy those Gold Toe socks at Costco, but I'm finding that they get kind of stiff after a few washings. The colors (esp. black) make sense, but this stiffness thing gets to me. I bought some at H&M (those black ones that at one time, like mine, have the days of the week on them, but now just have single colored lines), and those are good, but not as cozy-feeling as the Gold Toe socks.

If you want softer socks get Wigwam King Cotton Crews. You can find them in white and grey.

Gold-Toe are teh only socks I own. Literally.

For a while, I bought my socks at the dollar store. The last few sets of socks I've bought were from H&M. The thickest socks I have, some Hanes or something from Walmart and some Puma brand socks from Marshall's, are kind of old now, so I need some new thick ones for winter.

Stop using them as a cum rag.

I think either
1) you're using to much detergent (likely), or
2) you have very hard water and mineral salts are building up.
Gold Toe socks are not supposed to stiffen up ever no matter how old.

I change my socks, on average, 3 times a day. I'm not one of these hygiene freaks on the board, but I have a problem with thinking my feet are sweatier than they really are and feel compelled to put on clean socks throughout the day. Needless to say, I own many socks from hundred dollar pairs of cashmere to cheapo drugstore tubesocks.

Hey, Guys, how's about putting on pantyhose just for me?
|by Anonymous||reply 7||01/04/2012|
Smartwool. Their casual socks hold their shape through years of washes, go through the dryer without shrinking, keep my feet from sweating, and are soft and cushy.
I don't think they make dress socks though.

I wear hand knit socks that my mother makes for me. I know...MARY!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 9||01/04/2012|
How's about seeing some phoTOES of guys in socks?
|by Anonymous||reply 10||01/04/2012|
I've never seen socks with the days of the week on them. But I do have underpants with the months of the year on them.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||01/04/2012|
I have panties with the year of the century on them.

Gold Toe Cotton Fluffies
|by Anonymous||reply 13||01/04/2012|
Wait, OP--are they stiff or "cozy-feeling"?
|by Anonymous||reply 14||01/04/2012|
I retract R13. Apparently they ain't what they used to be.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||01/04/2012|
Any "brand name" item that you find at a Coscto or an outlet type store is not their premium grade item. Manufacturers all make a lesser grade to sell at the discounters.

In other words, you have OCD.

Gold Toe really sucks. I used to have lots of them and realized they are flipsey and feel like cheap polyester after a couple of washes.
I happened to stump upon some brown dress socks in Walmart. Yes, queens can start hyperventilating now. I got them from Walmart. They are thick, soft and anti-bacterial -- best bang for the buck. And they hold well after many washes.

It's my biggest problem.

R19, I'm not that way with anything else I can think of, but I do have anxiety issues so maybe it calms me down or something.

Preferably not wool, thanks. Not so much that it's itchy, as that I'm avoiding things like wool and leather. Thanks for the suggestions.

There's nothing hotter than a boy wearing white socks. Not those dainty little no-shows of course.

Do they still sell those white tube socks w/ those colored stripes at the shin?

I wear diabetic socks with the stretchy tops because I hate to feel confined by my socks.

I go for Gold Toe, but, somehow, with their black socks, they manage to produce each pair with a unique dye lot.

I recently discovered Dickies, at K-Mart. Full cushion pad, reinforced heel and toe; crew length for winter, quarter length for summer, incredibly comfortable and well-shaped. i am in the process of replacing all of my socks with these (don't have to wear dress shoes or socks to work).

Gold toe quality has gone down over time, wouldn't buy them now.

I guess people "stump upon" things in KMart.

The Gold Toe socks at Costco I believe are made for the Costco Corporation and therefore inferior to what you'd buy at JC Penney. I returned a dozen of them because they were in fact very stiff in the toe. Been a user of them for 10 years.

I find socks of any brand that are made in China tend to be awful. I think many are mislabelled (ie they are not cotton). There are still a few that are made in Korea that seem like they're of higher quality. Oh and they aren't made by political prisoners or 12 year olds working 16 hour days.
We really need to start boycotting china. They make *everything* now. We can't compete with prison labor and currency manipulation.

The best socks (for work/suits) I ever bought were bamboo Gold Toe socks - which they no longer make. I foolishly only bought 3 pair because I wanted to try them out, but procrastinated going back to buy more.
I hate it when you find stuff that you like and companies stop making them - Trader Joes is notorious for doing this with their store brands.
