What brand do you wear? I always buy those Gold Toe socks at Costco, but I'm finding that they get kind of stiff after a few washings. The colors (esp. black) make sense, but this stiffness thing gets to me. I bought some at H&M (those black ones that at one time, like mine, have the days of the week on them, but now just have single colored lines), and those are good, but not as cozy-feeling as the Gold Toe socks.

If you want softer socks get Wigwam King Cotton Crews. You can find them in white and grey.

by Anonymousreply 101/03/2012

Gold-Toe are teh only socks I own. Literally.

by Anonymousreply 201/03/2012

For a while, I bought my socks at the dollar store. The last few sets of socks I've bought were from H&M. The thickest socks I have, some Hanes or something from Walmart and some Puma brand socks from Marshall's, are kind of old now, so I need some new thick ones for winter.

by Anonymousreply 301/03/2012

Stop using them as a cum rag.

by Anonymousreply 401/03/2012

I think either

1) you're using to much detergent (likely), or

2) you have very hard water and mineral salts are building up.

Gold Toe socks are not supposed to stiffen up ever no matter how old.

by Anonymousreply 501/04/2012

I change my socks, on average, 3 times a day. I'm not one of these hygiene freaks on the board, but I have a problem with thinking my feet are sweatier than they really are and feel compelled to put on clean socks throughout the day. Needless to say, I own many socks from hundred dollar pairs of cashmere to cheapo drugstore tubesocks.

by Anonymousreply 601/04/2012

Hey, Guys, how's about putting on pantyhose just for me?

by Anonymousreply 701/04/2012

Smartwool. Their casual socks hold their shape through years of washes, go through the dryer without shrinking, keep my feet from sweating, and are soft and cushy.

I don't think they make dress socks though.

by Anonymousreply 801/04/2012

I wear hand knit socks that my mother makes for me. I know...MARY!!!

by Anonymousreply 901/04/2012

How's about seeing some phoTOES of guys in socks?

by Anonymousreply 1001/04/2012

I've never seen socks with the days of the week on them. But I do have underpants with the months of the year on them.

by Anonymousreply 1101/04/2012

I have panties with the year of the century on them.

by Anonymousreply 1201/04/2012

Gold Toe Cotton Fluffies

by Anonymousreply 1301/04/2012

Wait, OP--are they stiff or "cozy-feeling"?

by Anonymousreply 1401/04/2012

I retract R13. Apparently they ain't what they used to be.

by Anonymousreply 1501/04/2012

Any "brand name" item that you find at a Coscto or an outlet type store is not their premium grade item. Manufacturers all make a lesser grade to sell at the discounters.

by Anonymousreply 1601/04/2012

OP = pedi knight

by Anonymousreply 1701/04/2012

Smart wool

In other words, you have OCD.

by Anonymousreply 1901/04/2012

Gold Toe really sucks. I used to have lots of them and realized they are flipsey and feel like cheap polyester after a couple of washes.

I happened to stump upon some brown dress socks in Walmart. Yes, queens can start hyperventilating now. I got them from Walmart. They are thick, soft and anti-bacterial -- best bang for the buck. And they hold well after many washes.

by Anonymousreply 2001/04/2012

It's my biggest problem.

by Anonymousreply 2101/04/2012

R19, I'm not that way with anything else I can think of, but I do have anxiety issues so maybe it calms me down or something.

by Anonymousreply 2201/04/2012

Preferably not wool, thanks. Not so much that it's itchy, as that I'm avoiding things like wool and leather. Thanks for the suggestions.

by Anonymousreply 2301/04/2012

There's nothing hotter than a boy wearing white socks. Not those dainty little no-shows of course.

by Anonymousreply 2401/04/2012

Do they still sell those white tube socks w/ those colored stripes at the shin?

by Anonymousreply 2501/05/2012

Here you go, bitches (NSFW):

by Anonymousreply 2601/05/2012

I wear diabetic socks with the stretchy tops because I hate to feel confined by my socks.

by Anonymousreply 2701/05/2012

I go for Gold Toe, but, somehow, with their black socks, they manage to produce each pair with a unique dye lot.

by Anonymousreply 2801/05/2012

I recently discovered Dickies, at K-Mart. Full cushion pad, reinforced heel and toe; crew length for winter, quarter length for summer, incredibly comfortable and well-shaped. i am in the process of replacing all of my socks with these (don't have to wear dress shoes or socks to work).

by Anonymousreply 2901/05/2012

Gold toe quality has gone down over time, wouldn't buy them now.

by Anonymousreply 3001/06/2012

Brooks Brothers

I guess people "stump upon" things in KMart.

by Anonymousreply 3201/07/2012

Frilly 80's ankle socks with lace at the top.

by Anonymousreply 3301/07/2012

Paul Smith, naturally.

by Anonymousreply 3401/07/2012

Byford socks are the best!

by Anonymousreply 3501/07/2012

The Gold Toe socks at Costco I believe are made for the Costco Corporation and therefore inferior to what you'd buy at JC Penney. I returned a dozen of them because they were in fact very stiff in the toe. Been a user of them for 10 years.

by Anonymousreply 3601/08/2012

Mommie Dearest, "I can handle the socks."

by Anonymousreply 3701/08/2012

by Anonymousreply 3801/08/2012

I find socks of any brand that are made in China tend to be awful. I think many are mislabelled (ie they are not cotton). There are still a few that are made in Korea that seem like they're of higher quality. Oh and they aren't made by political prisoners or 12 year olds working 16 hour days.

We really need to start boycotting china. They make *everything* now. We can't compete with prison labor and currency manipulation.

by Anonymousreply 3901/08/2012

The best socks (for work/suits) I ever bought were bamboo Gold Toe socks - which they no longer make. I foolishly only bought 3 pair because I wanted to try them out, but procrastinated going back to buy more.

I hate it when you find stuff that you like and companies stop making them - Trader Joes is notorious for doing this with their store brands.

by Anonymousreply 4001/08/2012

crew socks rock

Under Armour socks are the best

by Anonymousreply 4207/19/2014

by Anonymousreply 4308/01/2014

Byford Byflex over the calf.

by Anonymousreply 4408/01/2014

I wear Ralph Lauren Polo socks--more expensive but last longer and more comfortable.

by Anonymousreply 4508/01/2014

VK Nagrani over-the-calf

by Anonymousreply 4608/01/2014

I was trying to find some black dress socks yesterday. I live in a warm climate and all the ones I saw were way too long and too thick.

by Anonymousreply 4708/01/2014

Socks helped to convince people I made a sex tape.

by Anonymousreply 4808/01/2014

The athletic black socks are so sexy on dudes. A mix of jock and hipster.
