Firefly

Spent most of the day watching a "Firefly" marathon. The show deserved better. And not just for the male cast.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 8311/23/2013

Couldn't agree more, OP. Fox really screwed over the show and its fans.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 112/25/2011

Now watch the movie serenity. Reallys ties up the series well.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 212/25/2011

Brilliant show. Perhaps the worst handling of a show by a network ever. Before canceling the season, Fox ran the episodes in the wrong order. Firefly isn't a sitcom, and continuity mattered to that show.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 312/25/2011

Truly one of the best sci-fi shows ever. And you get to see Nathon Fillion's gratuitously naked ass. However, why aren't there more Asian people where the standard slang is Chinese?

Still, a great, fun, smart, space western. Its cult status is well deserved.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 512/25/2011

Wait, wait r5!!

What's this about Nathan's naked ass? When and where did this happen?

I must know. Or you can post screen shots and put me out of my misery.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 612/25/2011

The Fillion ass in all its glory

(PS: Nathan made an appearance on the Nerdist Year In Review on BBC America, which I think will be rebroadcast soon.)

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 712/25/2011

Thank you, r7.

That's the best Xmas present yet!

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 812/25/2011

[quote]How long did it run when it was on? Only like two seasons, didn't it?

Fourteen episodes, a few of which Fox never got around to actually airing. And then the Serenity movie.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 912/25/2011

The Science Channel blurred Nathan's ass! :(

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1012/25/2011

Damn, that's it?

What a waste.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1112/25/2011

What was your favorite episode?

(Name and brief plot synopsis for those of us unfamiliar with the series).

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1212/25/2011

btw, Sean Maher (Simon) is openly gay and he and partner adopted two children several years ago

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1312/25/2011

As to episodes, I always liked the ones where Mal (Fillion) has some sort of moral uppity moral attitude with the Companion (played by Inara Serra - a high class licensed prostitute renting space on the ship).

I also liked the one where Mal ends up "married" to a girl he thinks is some rube who turns out to be a very good con artist (played by Christina Hendricks)

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1412/25/2011

Mal was so hot for that Companion it was painful. She should have just fucked him and gotten it over with.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1512/25/2011

The great thing about that tension is that Mal was so puritanical about the whole thing which made it much sexier.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1612/25/2011

There's more good stuff to the show than Fillion. All the characters were well written and original. Plenty of action and more humor than you typically find in a sci-fi show.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1712/25/2011

There were a few moments in the series where therer were inside jokes aimed at the viewers such as when the crew were sitting around, talking about River having psychic powers and Wash says "Paychic powers? That sounds too sci-fi" and his wife, Zoe, replies "Sci-fi? Honey, you're sitting aboard a spaceship in deep space".

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1812/25/2011

Best sci-fi EVER. I swore never to trust television again when it ended.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 1912/26/2011

{quote]Fourteen episodes, a few of which Fox never got around to actually airing

There are Extra episodes? That really gets my nerd up.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2002/09/2012

A 14-year-old Zac Efron appeared in one episode.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2102/09/2012

I'm watching an episode I never saw first time around, and I NEVER missed that program. It has Mal, and a very reluctant crew, hook up with Mal's "wife" again to steal the laser gun.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2202/17/2012

That would be Trash, R22.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2303/29/2012

Wasn't there some lesbian action in this series?

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2403/29/2012

Not that I remember, but there were some hints of Jane/Dr. action.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2503/29/2012

R24: Christina Hendricks briefly kissed Morena Baccharin in Our Mrs. Reynolds. Hendricks' character was wearing lipstick that contained a toxin, and Morena's character was briefly knocked out from that. The character made out that she fell, and not that she fell for Christina's character.

I think Morena's character (the companion) had sex with a woman off screen. There were also erotic exchanges between Jewel Staite's and Morena's characters.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2603/29/2012

[quote] Brilliant show. Perhaps the worst handling of a show by a network ever.

They fucked over the equally amazing, genius and classic "Wonderfalls" too.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2703/29/2012

Are you kidding, the female cast was "Hot"...Gina Torres et.al.,

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2803/29/2012

The female cast was gorgeous indeed, and diverse! I also thought Jewel Staite looked heavenly with a few more pounds on her.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 2903/29/2012

The strawberry scene

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3012/27/2012

It took at least three episodes for me to recognize Ron Glass.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3112/27/2012

Hot cast but needed aliens. Space westerns don't gain audience share. But lawd knows Hollywood keeps trying to bring back the western even though there is zero market for it.

Space Above and Beyond is another fox show that probably deserved better.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3212/27/2012

It didn't need aliens, R32.

The show worked. The problem was the network.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3312/27/2012

Morena B on the 10th anniversary.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3412/27/2012

Ten years ago I loved this show. I was crushed when it was axed. I love me some Nathan Fillion. Damn. Has it been ten years already?

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3512/27/2012

It's been ten years.

From Our Mrs Reynolds

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3612/28/2012

Probably the best show on TV at the time.

And it's stood up after all these years far better than most shows.

Fuck FOX and their stupid executives and petty politics.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3712/28/2012

[quote]Wasn't there some lesbian action in this series?

Inara had a female client in one episode, apparently an important government official. The build-up led you to believe it would be a guy, and instead it was a very attractive woman, which got Jayne all hot and bothered and intrigued Kaylee no end.

I got the impression that the character would have returned in a later episode as an ally of the Firefly crew had the series continued--that seems to be Joss Whedon's pattern.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3812/28/2012

There was so much more that could have been done with Inara's character.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 3912/28/2012

Morena was absolutely stunning in Firefly.

Still looks damned good, too.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4012/28/2012

R40 - Morena is stunning on Homeland too. What's amazing is that she was only 23 when she did Firefly (born in 1979). She had more poise than most her age. The whole crew, except for Ron Glass, was really young.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4112/28/2012

The best scene from the entire series was this...

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4212/28/2012

That was part of her appeal to me, r41. Nothing seemed to phase Inara. She was always poised no matter the situation and she was smart, too.

I just loved her. I wanted to BE her! (Or at least hire her!)

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4312/28/2012

What's the story on Ron Glass? He had a smokin' body in that--hot daddy!

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4412/28/2012

What the fuck, R44?!?

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4512/28/2012

R43 - There's a scene (I think in the pilot) of Inara stroking Kaylee's hair that seemed more than just sisterly.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4612/28/2012

For the record, I adored Zoe as well. She is who I would want to have my back when the going got tough.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4712/28/2012

The Firefly crew had four remarkable women, who were very different from one another.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4812/28/2012

I liked this series a lot. I especially liked it 'cause Adam Baldwin was so fucking hot.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 4912/28/2012

I remember that scene, r46! It was great! I envied Kaylee.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5012/28/2012

I loved Kaylee, R50

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5112/28/2012

R49, yeah, but it's tarnished by him being such a brain-dead hateful ignorant right-wing republican loudmouth moron.

I followed him on twitter for a week before I couldn't take his bullshit any more.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5212/28/2012

I agree, R42.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5312/28/2012

One of my favorite Jewel Staite interviews

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5407/10/2013

Is this the non-fat Nathan Fillion thread?

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5507/10/2013

Guess so R55

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5607/10/2013

Jewel Staite has a food blog. And a great sense of humor.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5707/11/2013

Jewel Staite is adorable. She's now on "The Killing", playing Holder's girlfriend.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5807/11/2013

Jewel has a wonderful sense of humor. I thought the commentary she did with Alan T. on The Message was really good.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 5907/12/2013

I'll be in my bunk.

With my picture of Nathan's ass.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6007/12/2013

Joss had Jewel Staite gain about 20 lbs to play Kaylee.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6107/12/2013

Joss talking about Firefly.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6207/29/2013

Conspiracy theory I just thought up the other day:

Fox hated and killed this show because of its occasional use of the Chinese language.

This show was ahead of its time in predicting how much of a world player China would be, and Fox hated that, didn't want the unwashed sci-fi masses to get edumacated about that.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6307/29/2013

"RPG Based On the Hit Show ‘Firefly’ Announced, Coming to Android and iOS"

OMFG, woot!

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6407/29/2013

R63 - They ruined the show before we even heard much Chinese. I think it was just corporate stupidity.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6507/29/2013

I was hoping this thread was a discussion of Jeanette MacDonald and Allan Jones in The Firefly. Was thinking of getting it on DVD. Allen Jones was the father of pop singer Jack Jones.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6607/30/2013

Wrong thread R66

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6707/30/2013

I tried to watch it - expecting the second coming of Jesus based on the fanboys.

This show isn't good. It's concept was good: Western sci-fi. Yes, people speaking a mix of Chinese and English is a great idea, but it was SO clunky on the show. And none of the actors could handle country/western dialect - "I'm a thinkin' a gettin' me one them there space ships." They all seemed embarrassed by it. All the planets looked like the same fucking patch ofn Thousand Oaks. The crazy genius chick was annoyingly retarded and I couldn't stand the actress' face who played her - she seemed like an anorexic rodent. And it had, without a doubt, the WORST theme song in the history of TV.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6807/31/2013

R68 - You really have a stick up your ass. The theme song was one of the best things about the show.

River was brain damaged. If you paid attention, you'd know that.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 6907/31/2013

Recent Jewel Staite appearance

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7008/05/2013

[quote]It's concept was good:

Oh, dear.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7108/05/2013

You disagree R71?

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7208/05/2013

It was an original show with great characters and dialogue. And there were so many more stories yet to tell. What a waste.

I don't know how true this is, but I read that the FOX exec who green-lighted the series and loved it was fired and his successor who hated him made it a point to kill the show. Like a wolf pissing all over his rival's territory.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7308/05/2013

R73 - That's one theory that makes sense.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7408/05/2013

It was a woman who canceled Firefly. Seven years later she was still doggedly insisting it was the right decision. She was raked over the coals all over social media, Entertainment Weekly, etc. for that.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7508/05/2013

R75 - Link?

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7608/05/2013

Here you go. Her name was Gail Berman.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7708/05/2013

Thanks R77

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7808/05/2013

Bump

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 7911/23/2013

I could not disagree with R68 more if I actively tried to.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 8011/23/2013

Jewel Staite and Summer Glau were on back-to-back Christmas movies on tve Hallmark channel today. Oh Canada

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 8111/23/2013

Summer grew into her beauty.

by Captain Tight Pantsreply 8211/23/2013

Jewel has an unusual accent (even for Canada).
