Careers that typically vote Republican or Democrat

Teachers: Republican

by Anonymousreply 9711/14/2014

Ummm, teachers and the teacher's unions are one of the Democrat's strongest bases, you freaking dumbass.

by Anonymousreply 111/28/2011

Hedge Fund managers.

by Anonymousreply 211/28/2011

Doesn't everyone pretty much vote republican OR democrat here in the US?

by Anonymousreply 311/28/2011

Police: Rebublican

Film Industry: Democrat

by Anonymousreply 411/28/2011

R1, you were right to criticize the OP, but you put your apostrophe in the wrong place.

by Anonymousreply 511/28/2011

My uncle is an IBEW Union and always votes Republican. Says God will him to do it.

by Anonymousreply 611/28/2011

by Anonymousreply 711/28/2011

I love R6 and R1. One knows grammar, the other knows politics.

OP, however, is dumber than dumb.

by Anonymousreply 811/28/2011

It's 'Democratic.'

by Anonymousreply 911/28/2011

Doctor - Republican

Librarian - Democrat

Airline Pilot - Republican

by Anonymousreply 1011/28/2011

No, I just wanted to stir some shit. Wow, you people are idiots sometimes. You really think that a gay guy on DL actually thinks teachers vote Republican?

by Anonymousreply 1111/28/2011

Factory worker - Democrat

Lawyer - Republican

Scientist - Democrat

Insurance agent - Republican

Teacher/Professor - Democrat

Military - Republican

Cop/Firefighter - Mixed bag

by Anonymousreply 1211/28/2011

Cop/Firefighter - Republican, all day everyday.

by Anonymousreply 1311/28/2011

It's been my experience in the teaching world that elementary school teachers do tend to vote Republican. They usually have husbands who make good money so they can "afford" to.

Middle/High/College tend to vote Democratic.

by Anonymousreply 1411/28/2011

"Lawyer - Republican"

Some are, some aren't. There are a lot of lawyers in the Democratic Party, including a few Presidents, you know.

by Anonymousreply 1511/28/2011

[quote]Lawyer - Republican

Not in my experience.

by Anonymousreply 1611/28/2011

"Military - Republican"

Some, not all. Lots of the military voted for Obama in 2008

by Anonymousreply 1711/28/2011

Democratic lawyers:

Bill Clinton

Hillary Clinton

Barack Obama

Michelle Obama

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Woodrow Wilson

Gloria Allred

by Anonymousreply 1811/28/2011

Here's an article complaining about how much money the trial lawyers give to the Democrats:

by Anonymousreply 1911/28/2011

The only military for voted for Obama in 2008 were recruits fresh out of high school who were conned into thinking he'd be better than Bush.

by Anonymousreply 2011/28/2011

Another article complaining that the Democrats are controlled by too many lawyers:

by Anonymousreply 2111/28/2011

Wrong, R20, I know Iraq war veterans who voted for Obama. A lot of soldiers say they would have shot Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld right in the face had the opportunity presented itself.

by Anonymousreply 2211/28/2011

According to exit polls taken on the day of the election, 44% of those with a military background voted for Obama, and 54% percent of those with a military background voted for McCain (while 2% voted for others).

Lopsided, but not overwhelmingly so. A fair number of those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan voted for Obama.

by Anonymousreply 2311/28/2011

OP, teachers typically vote for Democrats and belong to one of the largest unions (the National Education Association).

by Anonymousreply 2411/28/2011

R24 clearly never read past the OP.

And yeah, as others have said being in academia is overwhelmingly progressive. I think it is a great environment and love the people.

Doctors are no longer a Republican career. That image of old white country club men who own their own practice is an outdated picture of physicians.

by Anonymousreply 2511/28/2011 Looser,

Hey this was easy.

by Anonymousreply 2611/28/2011

Lawyers and teachers are overwhlemingly Republican?

Only on DL, folks, only on DL (you can't make this shit up!)

by Anonymousreply 2711/28/2011

Which is exactly why uneducated whites overwhelming vote Republican while people with the highest level of education overwhelming vote Democrat R26.

by Anonymousreply 2811/28/2011

Engineers tend to be republican. Of course the mililtary skews towards republicans.

by Anonymousreply 2911/28/2011

Engineer, Computer = Democrat

Engineer, Manufacturing = Republican

Engineer, Civil = either one

by Anonymousreply 3011/28/2011

[quote]Lawyers and teachers are overwhlemingly Republican?

[quote]Only on DL, folks, only on DL (you can't make this shit up!)

"Teachers" was a joke and/or shit stirring, "lawyers" was ignorance.

by Anonymousreply 3111/28/2011

Okay let's clarify the lawyer thing...

Trial lawyers - Democrat

Corporate lawyers - Republican

by Anonymousreply 3211/28/2011

There might have been SOME military youth who vote liberally but the majority of the Armed Forces personnel is historically conservative and religious.

by Anonymousreply 3311/28/2011

I am an engineer and they are essentially Rethugs and all are annoying...

by Anonymousreply 3411/28/2011

I know a lot of engineers who are democrat.

by Anonymousreply 3511/28/2011

I hate the contrarian idiots in these sorts of threads.

Yes. there are exceptions to everything. But these threads are more GENERALIZATIONS. What don't you understand about that?

Do you really want us to believe that the US Military is now a liberal organization? Get real.

by Anonymousreply 3611/28/2011

Doctors=Democrats. They are the financial base of the Democratic party, which is why health care reform has not attacked their incomes, even though that would be in the national interest, since they make too much and are operating a cartel to restrict the supply of health services and keep prices artificially high.

Trial Lawyers=split between Dems and Republicans, despite the hate campaign. For example Greenberg Traurig, which blackmailed the RC Church about child abuse, was almost solidly republican from top to bottom, as well as Bush family intimates.

Corporate CEOS=Republican, with almost no Democrats. CEO's were 95% for GHWB in 1992 and it has only gotten worse, despite the highly publicized few (Geffen, Gill) who are in the Democratic camp. Indeed, one of the things Wall Street will no longer allow is a liberal as CEO. Any company thinking of such a move cannot maintain its Wall Street relationships.

Wall Street and the rich=Mostly republican, but they like to have a finger on the other party too. Rich families will often split up their allegiances (for instance in 2008 the Pritzkers ran finance for BOTH the Obama and Clinton campaigns, and they had somebody working with one of the Republicans as well).

Media=Republicans. This is the fault of the weak genes of the old family news dynasts, who were not able to stand up to the CIA and Pentagon and Republican criminals.

by Anonymousreply 3711/28/2011

[quote]But these threads are more GENERALIZATIONS.

They are?

by Anonymousreply 3811/28/2011

I posted several links above that show most lawyers are Democrats and that most lawyers give money to Democrats and the Repugs are ticked off about it.

by Anonymousreply 3911/28/2011

Banks=Both parties.

Public sector union, except for public safety unions(police, fire, prison guards) who support whomever they think will win.

by Anonymousreply 4011/28/2011

[quote]Doctors=Democrats. They are the financial base of the Democratic party, which is why health care reform has not attacked their incomes, even though that would be in the national interest, since they make too much and are operating a cartel to restrict the supply of health services and keep prices artificially high.

There is so much wrong with this. Doctors in general are not outlandishly paid and they are NOT the problem when it comes to why healthcare services are absurdly expensive.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

by Anonymousreply 4111/28/2011

Most print journalists are simply too poor to vote Republican, assuming they were also stupid and self-deluded.

Broadcast, however....

by Anonymousreply 4211/28/2011

Their median income is $250,000 a year, which in a country where most people earn under $40,000 is outrageous and unsustainable and certainly not justified by their training or expertise R42. Doctors are the American OPEC. Of course medical companies and pharmaceutical companies are entirely GOP.

by Anonymousreply 4311/28/2011

OP = Freeper Koch Brother Sock Puppet

by Anonymousreply 4411/28/2011

Sounds like the Republicans are angry that lawyers support Democrats:

"For starters, the Democrats are the party of lawyers. Not only were lawyers their largest contributors in 2010, giving 81% of their donations to Democrats, but Democratic ranks are crawling with lawyers. In the last Senate, 35 of the 54 lawyers in the Senate were Democrats. In the last House, 106 of the 162 lawyers were Democrats.

The Democrats also like to nominate lawyers. The Obamas are both lawyers, as were the Clintons. In fact, every Democratic Presidential nominee since 1984 was a lawyer (Gore didn’t graduate but did go to law school), as was every VP nominee since 1976 except Lloyd Benson. By comparison, the last Republican President/nominee who was a lawyer was Gerald Ford."

by Anonymousreply 4511/28/2011

OP's post of "teachers vote Republican" is stupefyingly insane.

by Anonymousreply 4611/28/2011

Amen, R41. I can't believe how long this myth has continued. My dad is a retired country doctor from Washington State. He used the barter system when people had no money for medical care. The man took everything from fresh fish and (I'm not joking) totem poles in exchange for medical care. He was on call 24 hours a day. He is not a wealthy man. I am so tired of people taking a shit on doctors.

by Anonymousreply 4711/28/2011

Becoming a doctor is incredibly difficult,time-consuming and expensive and they actually provide a crucial service to the populace and have to carry a high cost and personal liability.

They should be paid well. Compared to financial industry folks and business executives who take home far more money without being nearly as accomplished or useful to society I am not sure why you are complaining about their income.

And it is the healthcare corporate interests that make medicine so expensive, which Doctors hate just like you do.

by Anonymousreply 4811/28/2011

Career=income and neither are the greatest factor in determining how an individual votes. FAMILY is the number one factor.

by Anonymousreply 4911/28/2011

Journalists=95 percent Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 5011/28/2011

I agree, R48. 100% correct.

by Anonymousreply 5111/28/2011

Which is why journalism has been "cut off" by the powers that be and is no longer a real profession R50. Meanwhile most of your high paid "news anchors" are rethuglicants.

Sorry R47 and R48 but you are full of shit. There is a shortage of "country doctors" precisely because it doesn't pay. But the profession refuses to open new medical schools or support socialized medicine to bring health care to regions underserved by capitalism. The reason why medical care, despite our unethical "fee for service" system, was relatively affordable in the 50s and 60s was because a liberal Congress in the 1950s actually more than doubled the number of medical schools, something the doctors have managed to prevent from ever happening again.

by Anonymousreply 5211/28/2011

They make becoming a doctor hard because it is a cartel. Instead of scientific education by people interested in care, you get what amounts to a hazing by people interested in money and status. But doctors aren't better trained than say architects, most of whom can't even find jobs in their field and who make starvation wages for the most part when they do.

by Anonymousreply 5311/28/2011

I always laugh when the right-wing accuses CNN of being too liberal. A lot of CNN anchors are Republicans. Look at how many have ended up on FOX:

Lou Dobbs

Ed Henry

Bill Hemmer

by Anonymousreply 5411/28/2011

How do you know the medical profession doesn't pay, R52? Based on salary for job postings ranging up to the 80K-100K for Physician Assistants and Nurses, I would say so.

Then Doctor's 150K +.

by Anonymousreply 5511/28/2011

Any profession that deals with life and death situations on a daily basis deserve to paid accordingly. I would never begrudge a medical doctor or nurse of their income.

I also believe that police, firefighters and especially teachers should be well compensated and have full benefits and pensions.

Financial assholes who makes millions from manipulating a few numbers and gambling with millions of peoples' pension funds is quite another story.

by Anonymousreply 5611/28/2011

I agree with a lot of the points R56 makes

by Anonymousreply 5711/28/2011

Classical musician = democrat

I've been one for over twenty years and I've met maybe five musicians who vote republican.

by Anonymousreply 5811/28/2011

"Any profession that deals with life and death situations on a daily basis deserve to paid accordingly."

I think every working person deserves a living wage, but going to medical school shouldn't entitle you to automatically make 5x the average national income, especially since most medical professionals do not deal with "life and death" situations on a daily basis. Every botox pimp out there trots out that line to justify their obscene incomes.

by Anonymousreply 5911/28/2011

Porn stars vote Democrat. I spoke to 50 this weekend.

by Anonymousreply 6011/28/2011

R37, many doctors don't make big bucks. That is really a false assumption. The insurance companies have them over a barrel the same as the rest of us.

by Anonymousreply 6111/28/2011

Big liar R61. Yes the insurance companies try to rip them off, but doctors have more power to fight back than the average person. Yes you will find some practitioners who pay say 60K per year in malpractice insurance. But since those same practitioners are making 300-400K per year in their specialty, it doesn't make them poor or even middle class.

by Anonymousreply 6211/30/2011

A doctor should not be poor or middle class. It takes a lot to be a doctor, they should earn a respectable salary. And what they earn, especially considering their expenses, is pittance compared to what their counterparts in some other industries earn. I don't see why that is so hard to understand.

Yes a doctor earns more than an average family, they are still on the bottom of the "elite" in American incomes.

by Anonymousreply 6311/30/2011

Gun store owners: Republican

MCC pastors: Democrats

by Anonymousreply 6411/30/2011

OP is right about teachers at least in the south. I wish I had known about illegal search and seizure in 5th grade when those backward ass teachers rounded up all the minority students and tore into our backpacks because "someone stole five dollars from Mrs. Brown's desk"

If you were a minority and poor you were in that room, it crushed me for a while because I'd thought so highly of my teachers before that.

I know already...Mary!

by Anonymousreply 6511/30/2011

R63, you could say the same thing about engineers, architects, blah blah blah. The fact is the people who make this country wealthy are the ones who make stuff: cars, planes, electronics, etc. And they are usually paid by the hour. You are making a VALUE JUDGEMENT which is insane and foolish. PhD's typically are more educated than doctors but make much less. Ballet dancers are ten times more disciplined and hard working and they make starvation wages when they get work. Your facile statements about how much doctors SHOULD earn is no better than Communism. Doctors should earn what society (those people paid by the hour) can afford, and not one fucking dime more. If doctors didn't restrict entry to their profession and hold their numbers down...they would make less than half what they currently make. Period.

by Anonymousreply 6611/30/2011

Doctors should earn what people are willing to pay them. Oh wait...they do.

by Anonymousreply 6702/25/2012

Hedge fund managers/finance people like bankers are usually Democrats.

2012 is proving to be an exception to the rule.

by Anonymousreply 6802/25/2012

Rabbis - Orthodox, Republican. Rabbis - All Others, Democrat.

by Anonymousreply 6902/25/2012

[quote] Factory worker - Democrat

Not in the red state rust belt. Even most of the auto industry factory workers in Indiana are Republicans who won't give Obama credit for anything. Any other industry and they're *all* Republicans. Most of the manufacturing companies won't let their workers unionize, not that they'd want to. And you know right-to-work just passed in Indiana, too.

by Anonymousreply 7002/25/2012

False R68. Hedge fund managers are not Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 7102/25/2012

Trial lawyers=Democrats, but trial lawyers are a minority of lawyers these days. Most lawyers work for corporations and while I can't say a majority are republican, it is enough to make them fucking dangerous.

by Anonymousreply 7202/25/2012

There are mixes with all careers.

Best way to break down demographics is by gender:

Males - Republican

Females - Democratic

Rs win males before females. Ds win females before males. If a R or D wins big enough, he/she pulls in the gender that is not first to vote for his/her party.

by Anonymousreply 7302/25/2012

R71- Usually (I didn't say most much less all) significant portions of the financial sector including hedge fund managers have been Democrats and been true for a very long time.

by Anonymousreply 7402/25/2012

Nonsense R74. You obviously don't know any.

by Anonymousreply 7502/25/2012

anyone - to the last standing man - employed in the performing arts votes left.

by Anonymousreply 7602/25/2012

Accountants = Republicans. I worked for KPMG in NYC and Philly; freepers galore. But the men accountants are surprisingly prissy.

by Anonymousreply 7702/26/2012

[quote]Lawyer - Republican

Those on the prosecution side of things.

Defense lawyers, nah. Typically Democrat.

by Anonymousreply 7802/26/2012

Military: Republican

Service workers: Democrats

by Anonymousreply 7902/26/2012

[quote]Bill Hemmer

Is he a Republican, or is he one of those idiots working for Fox, who just says whatever he's told in order to get a paycheck?

Remember how many people wanted to blow him on here for year?

by Anonymousreply 8002/26/2012

Librarians = Democrats

Book store employees = Democrats

Journalists = Democrats

Teachers = Democrats

Everyone who reads and tries to learn more about the world votes for Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 8102/26/2012

Doctors in the former Soviet Union made less than blue collar workers. And they were arguably better doctors than we have in the US. They just lacked the fancy equipment we have here. But they were great doctors in spite of that technology disadvantage.

by Anonymousreply 8202/26/2012

R80, Bill Hemmer is gay, isn't he?

by Anonymousreply 8302/26/2012

Truth be told, there is little difference between Republican and Democrats today. It is all theater of illusion.

by Anonymousreply 8402/27/2012

by Anonymousreply 8502/27/2012

What about lawyers?

by Anonymousreply 8602/27/2012

Actually, Republicans were fond of pointing out that Soviet life expectancy was declining, allegedly due to that circumstance.

But it is true for sure that European doctors excel American doctors in quality AND they make a lot less money AND their patients live longer.

by Anonymousreply 8702/27/2012

More honest examples please, I find this to be fascinating.

by Anonymousreply 8802/27/2012

Clueless gays...Democrat

Regular, normal people....Republican

by Anonymousreply 8902/28/2012

If you find one military personnel, not the lazy ass that sits on base in Texas all day, or the pussies that have never seen any actual combat, but the ones that were/are in a war, rather it be Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, ect., that is democrat I will be die from surprise.

by Anonymousreply 9006/20/2012

Hookers tend to vote Democratic, whereas male escorts are more likely to vote Republican, as instructed by their employers.

Is this true? Hard to say, but OP sucked up all of my brain cells with his astonishing stupidity.

by Anonymousreply 9106/20/2012

Any union member - Democrat

Any person perceiving chaotic living conditions with a lack of law and order - Republican

Ranchers - Republican

Dopers - Democrat

Hookers - Democrat

Musicians - Democrat

by Anonymousreply 9207/09/2012

Video Store employees when not enough late fees are able to be collected with support of local government and fair minded citizens - Republican

Video Store employees without any inkling of common sense or basic awareness - Democrat

Video Store employees with inappropriate crushes on younger female employees - Occupy Movement Sympathizers

by Anonymousreply 9307/09/2012

Teachers UNIONS support Democrats with money because Democrats support teachers/education in legislation. Whether teachers individually vote Democrat is another issue.

by Anonymousreply 9412/25/2013

[quote]If you find one military personnel, not the lazy ass that sits on base in Texas all day, or the pussies that have never seen any actual combat, but the ones that were/are in a war, rather it be Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, ect., that is democrat I will be die from surprise.

Not terribly difficult. You'll find that most states, cities, districts etc will have an organization of Democratic veterans.

And btw: most hawks are Republicans... Or hadn't you noticed?

by Anonymousreply 9512/25/2013

Teachers vote Democrat because of Unions.

by Anonymousreply 9612/25/2013

I'm still a law student but most of the lawyers I have met, including my professors, were democrats. I'm a democrat and most of my classmates are deocrats or at least consider themselves liberal or progressive.
