"Misfits" - British television series

Does anyone watch this? I didn't think I would like it, but it's great. Robert Sheehan is insanely talented, and oh, insane.

"'Gay', 'retarded', why do we have to label everything?"

by Anonymousreply 6410/31/2013

Robert Sheehan quit.

by Anonymousreply 111/12/2011

Yeah, I know. :(

by Anonymousreply 211/12/2011

Freaking brilliant show. I've been watching since it premiered in the UK (through torrents). The first 2 seasons are on Hulu now in case anyone wants to check it out. It's raunchy as hell but absolutely amazing.

by Anonymousreply 311/12/2011

Wasn't there a gay episode where the chav empath/lovepower girl's power got misdirected and the Irish guy fell in love with the weird dude with the freaky blue eyes?

by Anonymousreply 411/12/2011

Sheehan is one of those people that is so immensely talented, that he's probably a nightmare to cast. He'll probably end up with his own show. He's in vain of a Robin Williams.

The character Simon is so adorable, yet tragically sad. This is a one of a kind show, that is very hard to sum up to people who haven't seen it. It's very off-beat and quirky. I really hope they don't try to remake it in the US like they did with "Being Human". "Misfits" seems to have a very big following in the US. How? I have no clue. It's not a BBC show, so I doubt it'll air on BBC America. If the Sci-fi network were to air it, they'd remake it. This is seriously fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 511/12/2011

r4, here. This is so hilarious, and very homoerotic at the same time.

"Her hand was like a midget's."

by Anonymousreply 611/12/2011

by Anonymousreply 711/13/2011

Yes I watch the show. It's interesting enough and I think with Sheehan leaving it might go down the tubes.

by Anonymousreply 811/13/2011

I liked the first two episodes without Sheehan.

by Anonymousreply 911/14/2011

God, I LOVE this show. I discovered it via Hulu. It's one of those shows where it all comes together--brilliant casting and acting, great writing and music supervision. It's fun but can turn poignant on a dime.

It's true Sheehan was perfectly cast for his character, but so are all the others. The Chav girl and Simon have become my favorites.

I truly hope it doesn't become an American remake. We couldn't possibly pull it off as well.

by Anonymousreply 1011/14/2011

That chav girl won a BAFTA for her role. The show won Best Drama Series, and was the most nominated show of the night this year. It's fucking huge, and rightfully so! It is that damn good, and this isn't usually a genre I take to.

Oh, and the American remake is already in the works officially. The rights were bought. >:(

"There's a guy over here taking a shit!"

Sheehan said "never say never" in regards to his possibly returning in the future.

by Anonymousreply 1111/14/2011

Sheehan's currently on stage at The Old Vic. He's doubtless made the acquaintance of Spacey.

by Anonymousreply 1211/14/2011

I love the show, but am not as in love with Sheehan as most of you seem to be.

My favorites are Iwan Rheon, who is absolutely adorable, and Lauren Socha, who is hilarious. Also Antonia Thomas, who is beautiful. And even Nathan Stewart-Jarrett is more appealing to me than Robert Sheehan, who is a decent actor, but is repellent, imo.

Also, I'm an eldergay, and I have no interest whatsoever in any of the popular American shows that feature people of the same age/generation as the Misfits cast.

I'm technically a Luddite and afraid to use torrents to watch before the episodes become available legally in the US, so I watched it all on Hulu and all the clips and promos I can get from E4 and Facebook, and I eagerly await Season 3, when I comes here -- January, I think.

One of the most hilarious lines ever is near the end of the episode with the fight with the psycho guy who thinks he's living a video game, when the chav girl, Lauren Socha, tells Simon (Iwan), "That's what happens to guys who spend all their time on the Internet, playing games and watching porn."

Not funny here, but in context, I was howling.

by Anonymousreply 1311/14/2011

I totally agree with r13 above: I can't stand the over-the-top character Robert Sheehan plays. He just seems to try too hard to be outrageous. Iwain is a brilliant actor who says little to nothing but his eyes are so expressive, they're haunting.

by Anonymousreply 1411/14/2011

[quote]I can't stand the over-the-top character Robert Sheehan plays.

The character AND the actor are both repulsive. Fantastic show otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 1511/14/2011

The first time I saw Simon I thought he was hot even as the shy guy. There was something in his eyes that makes him attractive. When he changes (won't explain in case someone hasnt seen it) He gets fucking smoking hot.

by Anonymousreply 1611/14/2011

Really? I think Sheehan is brilliant, and isn't trying too hard at all. Seems organic to me. He is a loveable, but hateable character in reality. He steals every fucking scene he's in.

Iwan is brilliant, but he's not much different in real life. The writing is superb, and you really feel bad for his character. Iwan is the exact double of Mathew Horne, right down to the eyes. People even believed they were related, or the same person.

Anyway, in this age of horrible shows, every person should be sat down forceably, and made to watch "Misfits". There's no description good enough to sell it, but that hasn't stopped the show from being a humongous hit. I am not a fan of sci-fi shows, but I was shocked by how incredible this series is. I also like that it's gritty, and these kids are not made to look pretty, or glamorous... but they're also not made to look completely abused and dirty either. I'm still waiting for them to get the "gay kid" character. Whats taking so long?

"Save me Barry!"

by Anonymousreply 1711/14/2011

I haven't seen the new series yet. But Nathan's character was my favorite. Most of my favorite scenes involve him. I also like the chav girl.

"You're wearing cardigans"

by Anonymousreply 1811/14/2011

Great show. Loved the fact that they shot in the same location as Beautiful Thing.

by Anonymousreply 1911/14/2011

Did they really, r19? Where's it suppose be? I've been trying to figure this out.

by Anonymousreply 2011/15/2011

[quote]I also like that it's gritty, and these kids are not made to look pretty, or glamorous... but they're also not made to look completely abused and dirty either.

This is why I chase British TV. It’s more about talent to me than looks. Don't get me wrong I am in no way saying British people are ugly. American television is more concerned with popularity and sex appeal.

by Anonymousreply 2111/15/2011

I think it's Thamesmead, R20.

by Anonymousreply 2211/15/2011

r21, actually there are many British shows that make people look glamorous. Look at "Skins".

by Anonymousreply 2311/15/2011

R23 first I don't think there is anything glamorous about a bunch a drug using/sex crazed teeagers but ok. There are some shows that require glamor but the average British show shows average people. Sometimes a show is based on glamor therefore, glamor is required.

by Anonymousreply 2411/15/2011

Isn't Nathan Stewart-Jarrett gay in real life?

by Anonymousreply 2511/15/2011

r24, that show is not gritty, and the kids don't appear to be "real".

by Anonymousreply 2611/15/2011

r24, that show is not gritty, and the kids don't appear to be "real".

by Anonymousreply 2711/15/2011

It's shot in Thamesmead by south mere lake. Search google maps for

Belvedere Road London England SE2 9 United Kingdom

Love the Croydon facelift on the one girl.

by Anonymousreply 2811/16/2011

I looked it up on Wikipedia. The photos look like the exact locations where they film the show. Freaky, for some odd reason. It's a pretty depressing site. Is it a dangerous area?

by Anonymousreply 2911/16/2011

[quote]I truly hope it doesn't become an American remake. We couldn't possibly pull it off as well.

Josh Schwartz (The OC, Gossip Girl, etc) is already working on a US version.

by Anonymousreply 3011/16/2011

Nathan Stewart-Jarrett is gay?

by Anonymousreply 3111/16/2011

Sheehan is unwatchable, like a precocious child showing off for mommy's friends. Ruined what could have been a good show.

by Anonymousreply 3211/16/2011

I think Sheehan is what put the show on the map. His performance was incredibly. The rest of the cast were still finding their legs.

by Anonymousreply 3311/16/2011

I didn't know Nathan Stewart-Jarrett is gay, but if he is, that's great. He's very cute and funny to me. And his bf is a lucky guy.

by Anonymousreply 3411/17/2011

I Love this show!!! I'm sorry Nathan is gone but the show is smart enough to live without him. What do we think of Rudy? I haven't made up my mind about him. He's clearly a crude replacement for Nathan's bawdy humor but I'm not sure.

Nathan was cute and just barely likable enough to want to see what he'd do next. His immortality was perfect because it fit his character. He was terrified of aging and such a jerk to people that you could see how people would want to "kill him" - and he'd take it. There was some great character potential there.

Rudy does not intrique me much at all yet and he's not that attractive.

Anyone know where I can find season 3 online in America? I can't watch any videos on the UK websites.

by Anonymousreply 3512/01/2011

I was watching Season 3 on Megavideo, R35, but I've been pretty disappointed so far. I don't like the fact that Rudy's character is so similar to Nathan's crudeness and shenanigans. It makes him look like a complete replacement instead of showing someone new to the mix.

I got to the third episode and it was really, really bad. And it was mostly about Simon!! How could they make an episode devoted to Simon suck?

There are a lot of scenes of them just standing around looking at Rudy, like the rest of the cast don't know what to do with themselves. I never noticed that with Nathan on the show. He made everyone look interesting.

by Anonymousreply 3612/01/2011

I heard about this show on some site, and decided to check it out on Hulu.

Fell in love after the 3rd or 4th ep. Looking forward to watching the next season when it comes to Hulu.

It's the best "XMen-esque" superhero show ever- funnier than "Heroes", and wi far more heart.

by Anonymousreply 3712/02/2011

Great show...hard to share with most people, glad you all like it too.

by Anonymousreply 3812/02/2011

I love this

by Anonymousreply 3912/02/2011

r39 that's not from the misfits. Get your own thread, asshole.

by Anonymousreply 4012/02/2011

And this

by Anonymousreply 4112/02/2011

[quote]Sheehan is unwatchable, like a precocious child showing off for mommy's friends. Ruined what could have been a good show.

I don't think he ruined the show, but I agree completely with your first sentence.

I think the praise he's getting will likely turn him into someone like Robin Williams or Jim Carrey, both of whom are absolutely repellent to me, particularly on talk shows when they go off on some tangent that requires everyone to sit patiently and pretend to laugh while they contort and babble.

by Anonymousreply 4212/02/2011

In case anyone is interested, Hulu starts showing season 3 this upcoming Monday, December 19th.

by Anonymousreply 4312/16/2011

Series 4 just got the greenlight as well.

by Anonymousreply 4412/16/2011

Jetta was my fave Brit Misfit!

by Anonymousreply 4512/16/2011

Thanks R43!

by Anonymousreply 4612/16/2011

Yes, thanks R43, I'd heard it was going to be in January, and now I can't wait!

by Anonymousreply 4712/18/2011

What do we think of the finale?? Don't want to reveal spoilers but... ARRRGH!!!!

This season has been pretty average. There were some standout moments, and Rudy came into his own at the end but the rest of the cast really are pretty boring, with the exception of the Chav girl.

They should've focused more on Simon and Alicia.

by Anonymousreply 4812/19/2011

[quote]God, I LOVE this show. I discovered it via Hulu. It's one of those shows where it all comes together--brilliant casting and acting, great writing and music supervision. It's fun but can turn poignant on a dime.

Agreed. I've just started watching (on Hulu) and was quickly drawn in. Iwan Rheon is brilliant: sexy, geeky, sad, brittle, hard to watch yet impossible to take your eyes from him. And Lauren Socha is much the same.

It think it was the short scene with James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" (of all things) that hooked me. Splittingly funny and poignant at once.

by Anonymousreply 4912/21/2011

Just started watching Season 3...not as good so far.

by Anonymousreply 5001/21/2012

Stick with it, R50. There are some brilliant moments.

by Anonymousreply 5101/22/2012

i know this is a way old thread but f#ck you. So there.

Anyone any goss on Robert Sheehan?

by Anonymousreply 5211/22/2012

The good news is that LOGO is now showing Season 3 of "Misfits." The bad news is that LOGO is showing "Misfits" on Friday nights at 1 a.m. At least this means that LOGO won't have to censor much.

by Anonymousreply 5301/08/2013

IMHO, Misfits is a much better show than the over-rated Downton Abbey.

by Anonymousreply 5401/10/2013

I DVR "Misfits" each Friday night, and watch it the next morning. I don't mind it at all, since it allows LOGO to show "Misfits" without censoring the language.

p.s. I like how the character of Simon has developed from major dork to a heroic (and hot) character. He even has the hot girl (Alicia).

by Anonymousreply 5501/19/2013

Last night's episode was really good... about the Nazis...

by Anonymousreply 5601/26/2013

Anyone still watching?

by Anonymousreply 5701/28/2013

When Rudy 3 showed up, you could really see what an awesome actor that guy is.

by Anonymousreply 5801/28/2013

robert sheehan does he play for the gAy team?

by Anonymousreply 5902/09/2013

[quote]The character AND the actor are both repulsive. Fantastic show otherwise.

I agree with you, R15. But then I watched another interview with Robert, and he seemed so laidback and likeable. Idk.. you just got to see a new side of him. I'll link you the video.

by Anonymousreply 6005/15/2013

Just watched the OP's YouTube clip. Interesting to see Theon's tormentor from GAME OF THRONES on there, seemingly being tormented himself.

by Anonymousreply 6105/15/2013

I'd fuck the hell out of Iwan Rheon.

by Anonymousreply 6205/15/2013

by Anonymousreply 6306/08/2013

Logo is beginning to air another season this Friday night.
