Jayne Mansfield and Mariska Hargitay

Can a mother and daughter be any more different: bubble-headed beach blonde and square-jawed bull dagger? Has she ever commented on how she felt about her mother or her life choices? If she thought Jayne might have been mentally ill, pursuing the sex kitten thang long after her shelf life had expired, stripping in dives, etc?

by Anonymousreply 14201/02/2016

by Anonymousreply 111/04/2011

Mansfield put on the breathy, baby-voiced bimbo thing.

by Anonymousreply 211/04/2011

Actually OP, look at those pics closely. They both have the same square jaws and facial features.

The only difference is that Mariska isn't wearing a huge blonde wig.

by Anonymousreply 311/04/2011

Yeah, Jayne was actually a genius and a musical prodigy.

by Anonymousreply 411/04/2011

Is that blonde hair real?

by Anonymousreply 511/04/2011

I've always wondered why Mariska's head is attached to her body, but Jayne's wasn't. I take it she favors her dad.

by Anonymousreply 611/04/2011

There's been a rumor out there for years that she's actually not the bio daughter of Mickey Hargitay, that she was actually sleeping around a lot and had no idea who was her baby's daddy.

by Anonymousreply 711/04/2011

Jayne was trying to make a living with the sex kitten thing, after her 15 minutes was over. My guess is she wasn't anything like that in real life. She seemed to think of herself as a working divorced mom trying to pay the bills.

I don't know if Mariska has said anything recently, but a long time ago I read something from her that sounded like she was very fond of her mother.

by Anonymousreply 811/04/2011

r7, she's not Hargitay's biological daughter. Just Google Image Search Nelson Sardelli.

by Anonymousreply 911/04/2011

OP, Mariska TOTALLY resembles her mother, she has the same shape and color eyes, as well as that strong square need to just get beyond that dyed platinum blonde hair which Jayne had!

by Anonymousreply 1011/04/2011

From Wikipedia:

"Frequent references have been made to Mansfield's very high IQ, which she advertised as 163. She spoke five languages, and was a classically trained pianist and violinist. Mansfield admitted her public did not care about her brains. "They're more interested in 40-21-35," she said."

Makes you wonder what this woman would have done with her life if she was taken seriously.

by Anonymousreply 1111/04/2011

Mariska isn't the most feminine-looking woman, but she's far from a bull dagger.

by Anonymousreply 1211/04/2011

I read on a gossip board that they both are devil worshippers.

by Anonymousreply 1311/04/2011

r13, Jayne was part of the whole Anton LaVey crew.

by Anonymousreply 1411/04/2011

Mariska looks a very great deal like her mother. She just has different coloring and is far shorter and less buxom. No big deal.

by Anonymousreply 1511/04/2011
Jayne was part of the whole Anton LaVey crew.

Publicity only.

Jayne would've gone to the opening of an envelope if she'd thought it'd get her name in the paper.

by Anonymousreply 1611/04/2011

Well, to be fair, Mariska still has a head so the direct comparisons are cruel.

by Anonymousreply 1711/04/2011
She just has different coloring and is far shorter and less buxom.

I think MH is quite tall, actually. She's just chunky now, so she looks short.

by Anonymousreply 1811/04/2011

Dick Cavett wrote the following introduction for Jayne Mansfield's appearance on the Jack Parr Show. "Here they are, Jayne Mansfield." c

by Anonymousreply 1911/04/2011

I like this one.

by Anonymousreply 2011/04/2011

r20, that's Jayne with Jayne Jr. not Mariska.

by Anonymousreply 2111/04/2011

That is Mariska's older sister R20.

by Anonymousreply 2211/04/2011

Mariska is anything but a bull-dagger. They butch her up for SVU, but in reality she's a curvaceous, voluptuous, attractive woman. She was on Ina Garten's show earlier this year, and she looked great in a figure-hugging dress. She has a large bosom and is curvy just like her late mom.

by Anonymousreply 2311/04/2011

another pic

by Anonymousreply 2411/04/2011

That's not Mariska, R20. That's Jayne and her oldest daughter. Mariska was only 3 years old when her mother was killed.

by Anonymousreply 2511/04/2011

Mariska doing a sexy dance in her guest starring role on "In The Heat of The Night"

by Anonymousreply 2611/04/2011

"Can a mother and daughter be any more different:"

Cher and Chaz?

by Anonymousreply 2711/04/2011

Has anyone noticed that the girl in r20's picture is actually not Mariska but her older sister?

by Anonymousreply 2811/04/2011

Jesus! Yes, I know it's not Mariska, I just like the picture of Jayne!

by Anonymousreply 2911/04/2011

You may want a different example of Hargitay looking femme. She looks butch in that photo at R24.

by Anonymousreply 3011/04/2011

R30, short hair does not necessarily make a woman butch. She looks feminine in that pic as well as the one I posted above it.

by Anonymousreply 3111/04/2011

She looks like a cop not like a bull dyke.

And she looked quite feminine years ago on ER.

She's not perfect, but she's still beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 3211/04/2011

Well, not to me.

by Anonymousreply 3311/04/2011

Jayne was not a bubble head. She was intelligent and had great ideas but she was a woman in Hollywood and had no power. She used what she had. So many actresses from that time were abused by their husbands and managers, at least Jayne had a husband who loved her.

by Anonymousreply 3411/04/2011

is "bulldagger" the same as "bulldyke"?

by Anonymousreply 3511/04/2011

Pity Jayne made only two good movies which have lasted, The Girl Cant Help It and Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter, which I think she played on the stage as well (before the movie) - unlike Monroe at least Mansfield could work in the theatre.

by Anonymousreply 3611/04/2011

I think Mariska is gorgeous, and actually looks better with short hair. I loved her boycut on her earlier SVU days.

by Anonymousreply 3711/05/2011

{R36}; Yes, she starred in the Broadway version of Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter, and she won a Theatre World Award for it in 1956.

by Anonymousreply 3811/05/2011

Jayne Mansfield was a horrible screen actress anyway.

by Anonymousreply 3911/05/2011

Older sister posed for Playboy in 1976. It's the same issue that had the nude Kris Kristofferson/Sarah Miles pictorial for "The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea."

by Anonymousreply 4011/05/2011

I don't get the Mariska Hargitay hate. Is coming from strictly a select few in need of psychotherapy?

Should we feel [italic]sorry[/italic] for them? Or just dismiss losers like OP for the gutter trash that they are?

by Anonymousreply 4111/05/2011

r6, do you even realize how funny your statement is?

by Anonymousreply 4211/05/2011

Mariska does butch herself up for the current role she plays. If you saw her on Falcon Crest when she started out, she was very bubbly girly.

And she also looked alot like her mother.

by Anonymousreply 4311/05/2011

I don't doubt the smart part, but five languages? She was from a little burg in eastern PA, so where would she have learned all those languages?

by Anonymousreply 4411/05/2011

r41 it's the lesbians who hate her. They hate here because she's not like Ellen -- out and proud. They are the bitter ones.

by Anonymousreply 4511/05/2011

Thanks, Sidewinder.

by Anonymousreply 4611/05/2011

Has Mariska ever publicly addressed how seeing her mother decapitated in the car affected her?

by Anonymousreply 4711/05/2011

Supposedly, Jayne Mansfield was the first choice to play "Ginger Grant" on "Gilligan's Island." She declined, thinking television was too much of a downgrade. Yeah - as if trolling the backwater bars of Louisiana bayous was so high-class.

by Anonymousreply 4811/05/2011

What were Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Hargitay's thoughts on gays and lesbians?

by Anonymousreply 4911/06/2011

Consider the era.

Jayne Mansfield's first stage and film role had her playing alongside a fellow who was everything but gay.

Once again, consider the era.

She also had a gay following back in her day. And, I would assume she liked that.

by Anonymousreply 5011/06/2011

Mariska looks a lot like her mother. Wow.

by Anonymousreply 5111/07/2011

If Jayne was a genius she must have been an idiot savant (but the one talent she had a genius for remains a mystery). How could she not know she was an anachronistic clown, bopping around the hippie '60's like some kind of freak?

by Anonymousreply 5211/07/2011

laughing from r27

by Anonymousreply 5311/07/2011

Was the devil worship thing a publicity stunt or for real?

by Anonymousreply 5411/07/2011

r45, there is no evidence that Mariska Hargitay is a lesbian. Many people, especially lesbians, of course, want to believe Hargitay is gay because she plays a slightly butch cop on Law and Order: SVU.

by Anonymousreply 5511/07/2011

r55 did you read any of the MANY 600 page Mariska threads?

by Anonymousreply 5611/07/2011

People just make up stories on those threads, putting together various obscure rumours to create something big. Don't believe everything you read at DL.

by Anonymousreply 5711/07/2011

r57, so you did read all of those threads? What was the name of the poster who wrote the surrealistic play with Jennifer Connelly's Unwashed Hair? Do you remember? I do.

by Anonymousreply 5811/07/2011

Jayne was not decapitated. That was a wig in the accident photo.

by Anonymousreply 5911/07/2011

R55 is just a silly (and not a very good) troll. Everyone knows about Mariska. It's not even a secret in the "business".

by Anonymousreply 6011/07/2011

by Anonymousreply 6111/08/2011

"She was intelligent and had great ideas but she was a woman in Hollywood and had no power."

Oh, please! What "great ideas" did she have? The only idea she ever had when it came to her relentless efforts to become the world's top sex symbol was to get publicity. ANY publicity. She figured if people kept hearing about her and seeing her that would make them want her. Actually, it only made people tired of her.

"The Show Business Nobody Knows" by the gossip columnist Earl Wilson has an interesting chapter on Jayne Mansfield. He depicted her as being a basically good-hearted but pathetically misguided character, with the body of a woman and the mind and emotions of a little girl. "She never grew up, she only grew out", was how he put it.

by Anonymousreply 6211/08/2011

What r55 said.

by Anonymousreply 6311/08/2011

I'd forgotten Hargitay was Mansfield's daughter until I saw a side shot of her on SVU and was startled by the resemblance. It was recently (she's aged quite a bit) too.

BTW, when she died Mansfield wasn't decapitated, but part of her scalp was ripped away.

by Anonymousreply 6411/08/2011

Mariska is definently grateful for the role of Detective Olivia Benson on the show. It made her a household name.

by Anonymousreply 6511/08/2011

Mariska still has a scar on her forehead from the car accident. She and her two brothers were asleep in the back seat and walked away with only minor injuries. I've seen pictures of the wreck and it's a miracle anybody survived that crash, it was horrific.

by Anonymousreply 6611/08/2011

"Mariska is definently grateful for the role of Detective Olivia Benson on the show. It made her a household name."

She better be grateful! She should thank her lucky stars every night for LAOSUV. She's a mediocre, wooden actress who landed a plum role on a long running tv series; that's some luck. The same thing happened to David Duchovny; if he hadn't gotten the role of Fox Mulder his career would have gone nowhere due to the fact that he speaks in a mumble and has all the facial expressions of a cigar store Indian.

by Anonymousreply 6711/08/2011

Maybe she was a spy. They're really the only people who need to know 5 or more languages.

by Anonymousreply 6811/09/2011

"... it's a miracle anybody survived that crash, it was horrific."

They don't make tanks like that anymore.

by Anonymousreply 6911/09/2011

I think it was very nice of Mickey to raise MH as his own kid. He must have been a great guy

by Anonymousreply 7011/09/2011

by Anonymousreply 7111/10/2011

The Difference between Mariska Hargitay and her Mother Jayne Mansfield is that Mariska isn't as buxom and glamourous as her Mother was. As far as looks, they look alike except for the hair color. Jayne Mansfield didn't always wear wigs until the sixties when it was a fad to wear them. She was also a very intelligent woman. She didn't lose her head in the car accident and she really wasn't a devil worshipper. People just love to hear bad shit about people because their own life sucks ass. Get a life.

by Anonymousreply 7209/22/2012

Mariska is quite boxom.

by Anonymousreply 7309/22/2012

Jayne Mansfield invented the iPhone.

by Anonymousreply 7409/22/2012
Mariska looks a very great deal like her mother. She just has different coloring and is far shorter and less buxom.

M. Hargitay is actually a tall woman. How tall was he mother?

by Anonymousreply 7509/22/2012

You resurrected this thread to tell us that, R72?

by Anonymousreply 7609/22/2012

a candid moment with Jayne Mansfield

by Anonymousreply 7712/30/2012

Loren acts like a bitch in this photo.

Look more discreetly fucking bitch!

by Anonymousreply 7812/30/2012

Mariska is tall and very buxom, particularly after she gave birth. Her boobs are huge and she has shapely hips and ass.

by Anonymousreply 7912/30/2012

R79 what a classy description!

Gimme a break!

by Anonymousreply 8012/30/2012

It's true, R80. Grow up if you can't take it.

by Anonymousreply 8112/30/2012

R81 If you smile i can take it.

Kiss and hug...

Take it well and be more good next time

Shoo now!

I said!

by Anonymousreply 8212/30/2012

Jayne Mansfield & hubby Mickey Hargitay, 1950s

Omg, look at them!

by Anonymousreply 8303/13/2013

LOL at the guy behind Jayne Mansfield in R83's link.

OP, Mariska is probably a ditzy bobblehead behind the scenes.

Don't confuse her character, for real life honey.

by Anonymousreply 8403/13/2013

Mariska and Wynonna Judd were kindergarten classmates.

by Anonymousreply 8503/13/2013

Does Mariska have formal acting training? She's a really fine actress, and certainly much superior to her mother.

by Anonymousreply 8603/13/2013

R84, that man in the BG is clearly Zack Galfiniakis, disoriented as he steps through a time tunnel. Mickey Hargitay Jr runs a cool plant shop in LA, off LaBrea.

by Anonymousreply 8703/13/2013

Mariska trained at the Groundlings in LA

by Anonymousreply 8803/13/2013

Young Jayne Mansfield with some admirers. And that girl second from right is possibly Natalie Wood!

by Anonymousreply 8903/13/2013

She wasn't a twig even when she was young.

by Anonymousreply 9003/13/2013

I find it hard to believe that Jayne Mansfield was as intelligent as she cracked herself up to be. I think her reputed 163 IQ was probably quite exaggerated.

I don't suppose anybody on Datalounge has ever heard of an old school gossip columnist named Earl Wilson. I've read a few books by him; his books are entertaining. He was hilariously hypocritical. He was shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, at the permissiveness and immorality of the "new Hollywood" and the "rock scene" and filthy theater shows, but he never passed up a chance to see the latest "dirty" movie or stage production, all in the name of his dedication as a journalist, mind you. In his book "The Show Business Nobody Knows" there's a photograph with the caption "Earl takes time from his rounds to relax with two actresses from "The Love Machine." The two "actresses" are both stark naked. Wilson, thankfully is clothed. Obviously he loved his "research."

In "The Show Business Nobody Knows" there's a chapter called "The Making of a Sex Symbol." Other chapters include "Diddling, Drinking and Divorcing", "Now Nudity" and "The Porno Era, Or There's Nowhere to Go But Up." It's that kind of book. Anyway, in the "sex symbol" chapter he talks at length about Jayne Mansfield. Apparently he knew her fairly well. Here are some things he said:

"All publicists and press agents agree that the best buildup ever done with Jayne Mansfield's promotion of herself. She had a stronger career drive than any of the others (other blonde Marilyn wannabes)."

"Jayne surrended all privacy and considerable dignity in the daily job of getting her name and picture in the papers."

At a party for Sophia Loren: "From somewhere came Jayne. She was in the lowest cut gown ever seen until then; she wore no bra, and everything was hanging out. Jayne stood just behind Sophia and Clifton Webb and bent over for the photographer. The resulting photograph was as if Jayne had laid her two breast on a platter for all the world to see. One could see between her breasts down to her navel. Jayne's eyes were on fire, as she smiled delightedly for the camera. "She went too far this time", Hollywood said.

"It was sad to say, but Jayne Mansfield, who had once been a fresh breeze in the newspapers, was becoming a large bore. She had overdone her buildup."

About her death: "Thus exited Jayne Mansfield, who never really became a movie queen, the superstar she had longed to be."

"Jayne never grew up--she only grew out. A psychiatrist gave the opinion that she had the body of an adult and the heart of a little girl and that her house was like a little girl's playhouse."

"Jayne wanted to be Marilyn Monroe. When Marilyn died, Jayne tried to replace her as the great American sex figure, to beat out Carroll Baker and all the other contestants, but America had seen all of Jayne, literally and figuratively. She had nothing left to show and the American film companies weren't interested in her. Jayne had shot her bolt with her never-ending battle to build herself up, and when the great opportunity came, it was too late for her."

"One could moralize nd say that it was a wasted life, that Jayne might better have spent all that time trying to learn to act, hoping that publicity would come to her through excellence of performance. But Jayne could never allow herself to take the slow way."

"Anyway, with a figure like hers, it was difficult for people to take her seriously."

by Anonymousreply 9103/13/2013

by Anonymousreply 9203/13/2013

How could you not be damaged after seeing your mother's head come off in front of you?

by Anonymousreply 9303/13/2013

r89, the blond guy next to Wood is actor John Smith. He was in "Laramie" and it's possible the dark haired guy on this side of Wood is Smith's co-star in the series, Robert Fuller.

The other guy's name is right on the tip of my tongue. it will come to me.

by Anonymousreply 9403/13/2013

Mariska is not very tall. I talked to her briefly. I'm 5'10, she's about 5'7", maybe 5'8".

by Anonymousreply 9503/14/2013

She resembles her mother more as she's grown older -- you can see it in some camera angles on her show.

by Anonymousreply 9603/14/2013

by Anonymousreply 9703/14/2013

R91, interesting your info. Thanks for taking the time to send it. :)

R94, wow, you know the other guys too? You are so well-informed! Cool! Sweet. :)

by Anonymousreply 9803/14/2013

I think Sophia should be more cool with Jayne's tits. Ffs, they were both women!

by Anonymousreply 9903/14/2013

Jayne was more friendly than Sophia, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 10003/14/2013

I find very dislikeable and a bitch Sophia Loren in that photo. She has a look so inappropriate and insensitive to the occasion.

by Anonymousreply 10103/14/2013

One more with them...

by Anonymousreply 10203/14/2013

Were Jayne Mansfield and Sophia Loren call girls or escorts?

Because judging by these photos, well...

by Anonymousreply 10303/14/2013

Sophia Loren was, R103. That's how she met Ponti.

I don't know about Mansfield.

by Anonymousreply 10403/14/2013

Lol, R103!

Well, R104,really? Well Sophia seemed so calculating, it wouldn't surprise me to know that she was a call girl in her past. At least, Mansfield no matter how cheap she might have seemed, she didn't seem like a cruel bitch. A whore or a slut can be less than a bitch in some cases, mind that.

by Anonymousreply 10503/14/2013

Jayne Mansfield, in that dress with her tits hanging out, is on the cover of "Hollywood Babylon." It's a very apt image: pure decadence.

by Anonymousreply 10603/14/2013

Jayne was a goddess.

by Anonymousreply 10703/14/2013

Two fun couples: Mamie van Doren and date. Mickey Hargitay (Mr Universe 1955) and Jayne Mansfield. Jayne's eyes look like they're clocking Mamie's cleavage.

God, you do the same that Sophia did to you Jayne, however your stare is less judgmental. However, it's pretty annoying, lol!

Jayne Mansfield attends the opening of Mitzi Gaynor's show at the Riviera

Jayne Mansfield, Liza Minnelli, Mitzi Gaynor, and Kaye Ballard

by Anonymousreply 10903/18/2013

I was shocked when i read that Jayne Mansfield was a classically trained pianist and violinist, that she spoke five languages and that she also claimed to have an I.Q. of 163, though she did not have exceptional grades in school.

Is it true? Then, why she needed to seem like a bimbo? Just asking, no bad intentions, really.

by Anonymousreply 11003/18/2013

She seemed great as a brunette! What a pity she had to have this platinum blonde most of her life.

by Anonymousreply 11103/18/2013

She was gorgeous as a brunette.

by Anonymousreply 11203/18/2013

Jane Mansfield was very intelligent. She paved the way for Marilyn and was able to achieve great success for many years with her blonde bombshell schtick. She was very respected and audiences enjoyed her very much.

by Anonymousreply 11303/18/2013

[post by racist shit-stain #3 removed.]

by Anonymousreply 11403/18/2013

r47 Mariska was too young to remember anything.

by Anonymousreply 11503/18/2013

the beauty of Jane Mansfield's genius is that she created this "blonde bombshell" bimbo character and it worked. She gave the people what they wanted and got paid. She knew the difference, We didn't. That's what you call great marketing.

by Anonymousreply 11603/18/2013

r116 the blond bombshell bimbo character existed before Jayne. Either way I preferred her to Marilyn Monroe.

by Anonymousreply 11703/18/2013

yea yea Clara Bow, Jean Harlow, etc etc..we know already. I prefer Marilyn but thought Jane Mansfield was genius. As was Marilyn. Don't know too much about Jean Harlow and the others. Thing is the blonde bombshell was a "character", not really who these ladies were in life.

by Anonymousreply 11803/18/2013

i find it very hard to believe that Manfield had a high I.Q.

Serioulsy, you believe that? She also spoke 5 languages and played both the violin and the piano? Oh, come on! She maybe knew five words from each of the five languages she claimed that she spoke though. Oh, and about the violin, well, everybody can be photographed with a violin on their hands and tell that they know playing the violin.

If she was indeed clever, she would get rid of that bimbo persona she adapted the moment she found out that that picture of her was already washed-up and made her seem like a caricature.

by Anonymousreply 11903/19/2013
She paved the way for Marilyn

I think you got that backwards.

by Anonymousreply 12003/19/2013

by Anonymousreply 12103/19/2013

He graduated with High Honors from college. My take is that back in the 50's even with her academic degree Jayne had the choice of beig a teacher, sercretary or the movies- so she went with what paid the most.

by Anonymousreply 12203/19/2013

Whatever lead Jayne to Hollywood, it was the wrong road. I think even with better management she would have had a limited career as an actress. She was a knockout, but a wannabee. Her fame was akin to the reality stars of today, clinging to their 15 min. of fame from a few years ago.

by Anonymousreply 12303/19/2013

That "date" with Mamie in the pic at r108 is actually her husband at the time, bandleader and trumpet player Ray Anthony. Gorgeous man and he is still with us. They have a son named Perry.

by Anonymousreply 12403/19/2013

R124, what a pity he and Mamie Van Doren broke up. I guess it was mostly Mamie's fault and believe me, most of the time i'm on the woman's side, because most of the time men have the problem. Mamie wanted to be free as she explain in her personal site and couldn't be chained at that time as she herself admits. By reading her story about Elvis Presley,(she mentions Ray Anthony too in that story) you can understand a lot by that incident...

by Anonymousreply 12503/19/2013

So Mariska is in the closet? Like mother like daughter if you ask me, lol. I mean i think Jayne Mansfield was bisexual and didn't realize it, or maybe she couldn't realize it. I mean, she pings to me, all her efforts to be a platinum sexbomb reveal also a lipstick lesbian behind that.

by Anonymousreply 12603/20/2013

Lol R114! Yeah i can see that. Liza, Liza, Liza!

by Anonymousreply 12703/20/2013

This pair of tits looks very...assertive.

by Anonymousreply 13105/29/2013

They're both stunning IMHO. I can definitely see her mother in Mariska.

by Anonymousreply 13205/29/2013

John Gilmore wrote about Masfield:

'I felt sorry for Jayne. Despite her alleged high IQ, there was something so sorrowful about her, and so uninformed. At least she seemed that way, possessing a low-grade sense of humor and prone to laughing at outhouse jokes. She was quite beautiful but there was something almost obscene and grotesque about her as time wore on.' After a couple of glasses, when she managed to spill a full drink down the front of her denim shirt, and she took it off to let it dry on the terrace of the office. She then continued talking while she sat in her wet brassiere with a bunch of paper towels wadded over her chest. At one point she said the vodka was “stinging” her “titties.”

While I was sitting there staring at the mounds of white on her chest sticking out over the table, she said, "They've grown bigger. It has to do with physical improvement." We talked about the story for awhile, then she said, "But my hips are the same. I've gained a little in the waist, but not in the hips." '

I find Jayne the least attractive out of the three bombshells. Marilyn was beautiful, Mamie was very pretty but Jayne had a coarseness to her. Maybe if she had stayed a brunette...the blonde just seemed to harsh for her skin tone.

So what's going on with her? Is she still fucking Amanda Plummer?

What was Jayne's natural hair color?

Jayne was a brunette.
She paved the way for Marilyn and was able to achieve great success for many years with her blonde bombshell schtick

R113 uh, Marilyn came before Jayne. Marilyn started out as an extra/bit player in 1947, and in 1950 got her first big break when she had small supporting roles in the classics and hits THE ASPHALT JUNGLE and ALL ABOUT EVE. She followed that success with a bunch of supporting roles, more importantly in CLASH BY NIGHT (1952), with Barbara Stanwyck. (It was during the filming of this movie that the nude photographs shed' taken 2-3 years earlier resurfaced in a calendar and caused a scandal.) Later in 1952, she was in her first starring role in DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK. The following year, she had 3 major hits in quick succession: NIAGARA, GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, and HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE. This string of successes put Mairlyn on the international map, and it was the first time she made Quigley's list of Top Ten Box Office Champs. The same year Jayne Mansfield made her film debut in FEMALE JUNGLE (1955), Marilyn released the box office smash THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH. Also, by that time, Marilyn had formed her own production company and had renegotiated her contract to suit her, i.e. pick of director, script approval.

In fact, Jayne wanted to BE Marilyn Monroe. Her biggest hit (first on Broadway then in film) was in 1957's WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER?: which was a sendup of the Marilyn persona, written by Goerge Axelrod, who'd previously penned Marilyn's THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH.
