I just don't get it. He's bloated looking, and looks like a fat evil child.
Why is Leonardo diCaprio a sex symbol still?
|by Anonymous||reply 53||07/07/2013|
Totally agree with you, OP. His looks hit the wall a long time ago. I think you could ask this question about most male celebrities as well.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||10/27/2011|
He has a round face, so for him to look slim in the face he'd need to lose a lot of weight.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||10/27/2011|
I just don't understand why people like Leo and Travolta get so fucking fat. If I had their money and resources, I'd have a personal trainer every day, a nutritionist and a chef. They certainly have the time and money to do all of that.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||10/27/2011|
He has a mystique. For straight guys, looks are always secondary.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||10/27/2011|
That was his hype at the time of Titanic. Who ever said it was remotely true?
|by Anonymous||reply 5||10/27/2011|
A needy, fat baby will always have its appeal.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||10/27/2011|
Never got him. During Titanic he looked like a 12 year old and Kate looked like maiden aunt or something.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||10/27/2011|
He has closetface.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||10/27/2011|
[quote]For straight guys,...
BWAH HA HA HA HA HA HAH!!!

Actors are very, very lucky that women aren't nearly as judgmental about their looks as men are about women's. If they were, most of them would never be put to celluloid, especially past age 30.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||10/27/2011|
Why the fuck was he cast in Titanic? He looked like he was 12 and poor Kate was robbing the cradle. That's the best Jimmy Cameron could get?
|by Anonymous||reply 12||10/27/2011|
[quote]Why is Leonardo diCaprio a sex symbol STILL?
Jake Gyllenhaal is 100% clownface with girly voice.
Ryan Reynolds is talent/charisma free.
Christian Bale makes the funniest Batman.
Robert Pattinson is asexual.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||10/27/2011|
He just put on some pounds for a role in a movie.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||10/27/2011|
I loathe DiCaprio too, but he's the closest thing to a classic movie star in his generation.
Pretty sad, huh?
|by Anonymous||reply 15||10/27/2011|
He must have been researching this new role for years, r14.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||10/27/2011|
Think he'll look like this when he gets older?
|by Anonymous||reply 17||10/27/2011|
Not sure where you are getting that he is a 'sex symbol'? He's considered the actor whose career is defined by the different chapeaus he wears in each role.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||10/27/2011|
Good lord, the "old man" pic of Leo looks exactly like my late Uncle Vincent.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||10/27/2011|
His face is often bloated from alcohol. It's a few weeks since I've seen pics from Great Gatsby, but I don't think he looks fat right now.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||10/27/2011|
What I don't get is wtf happened to his bone structure. He seemed to have nice bone structure in Titanic and usually people like him retain the face even with the weight (see Anna Nicole Smith, Vince Vaugn, etc) Leo looks like his face was somehow flattened over time.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||10/27/2011|
I don't think he's really regarded as a sex symbol. He sort of jumped from teen idol to serious actor.
Whether you think he's any good as an actor is another argument altogether...
|by Anonymous||reply 22||10/27/2011|
He's starting to look like a real guinea.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||10/27/2011|
I'm a woman and could never understand why he was ever considered such a beauty.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||10/27/2011|
He was? Is? Huh? No way, cute, kinda in an impish way.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||10/27/2011|
He was never a sex symbol.
People used to confuse him with River Phoenix who was.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||10/27/2011|
When he was younger he looked like a girlish young boy. He still looks like a boy. A very old, puffy boy.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||10/27/2011|
I agree with R13.
|by Anonymous||reply 28||10/27/2011|
"A very old, puffy boy"
ROFLMAO. His nickname should be "puffy boy"
|by Anonymous||reply 29||10/27/2011|
Good point,OP. That's what Mick Jagger has done for years and look what it's done for him.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||10/27/2011|
I never got the hype about Leonardo's looks during the 1990s. He looked like a plain girl.
Over the last decade, he has looked like a pudgy old man.
|by Anonymous||reply 31||10/27/2011|
The Great Gatsby has hit the screen for over a week now. And there seems to be enough women (and some men ?) who still find him very attractive.
I think he can be credited as the one responsible for this film success during the first week end and the following week.
The critics were not overjoyed nor friendly. A lot of people gleefully predicted it would be the first big flop this spring. But people were curious, thought it looked beautiful, and wanted to spend some 2 hours with the (still) golden boy in the dark.
OP from 2011, I won't contredict you, nor state that he is extremely handsome all the time. But in that movie, he did look good. He is not an has-been yet...
|by Anonymous||reply 32||05/18/2013|
He'll be considered sex symbol way into middle age precisely because he's not too pretty. He also never overexposes himself and strikes the right balance of mystery and publicity when necessary.

I don't know. When I see him or hear him, all I can think of is Growing Pains. Never got the hype with this one.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||05/18/2013|
[quote]But in that movie, he did look good.
It's easy to look good when you have makeup on, hairstylists, clothes stylists, and lighting in the right places.
Sometimes he looks OK, but only when he's clean shaven and not bloated in the face. Unfortunately, he keeps trying to have a goatee:
|by Anonymous||reply 36||05/18/2013|
I never understood why he always got A-list roles. He looks like a twink...and now a bloated twink. One of Hollywood's mysteries to me like why are moviegoers still going to see Tom Cruise or Adam Sandler
|by Anonymous||reply 37||05/18/2013|
|by Anonymous||reply 38||05/18/2013|
You know Brad Pitt has never carried a movie, on his own, to block buster success? Movies like The Fight Club would have been hits regardless.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||05/18/2013|
I never thought he was a sex symbol.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||05/18/2013|
He'll take a 'break' come back with a full facelift/eyebrow lift.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||05/18/2013|
Why does he keep slicking his hair back? It makes him look old.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||05/18/2013|
Because gay men are his target audience, r40.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||05/18/2013|
He was never a sex symbol, only for the young girls who are attracted to Justin Beiber types and the gay guys who are the same. They share one thing in common. An attraction to innocent-looking, hairless, non sexual looking males. Fear of men.
He was never handsome or sexy. Just a young thin pale "twink" that ignited some rather immature passions.
He looks much better now to me. Not sexy or handsome, but not pre-pubescent. I am iconoclastic so will continue to say that I think he is a good actor and will be doing "Orson Welles" parts one day. He cares about his work, more than being a pretty boy. Why do gay men always confuse young actors with rent-boys?
|by Anonymous||reply 44||05/18/2013|
No R34 , they can't. They try and feed different publics actors-sex symbols, etc down their throat. But those actors won't become or stay famous for long, if the public doesn't cooperate, and starangley enough, Hollywood can't force love,e ven with intense marketing.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||05/18/2013|
As an actor, Leo isn't half bad. And he's more handsome as an older man than when he was in his teens and early twenties. I think being somewhat mysterious is it.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||05/18/2013|
He is SO ugly now! Morphing into Jack Nicholson at light speed.
Do people REALLY find him attractive, or is it his fame and fortune that people find sexy?
|by Anonymous||reply 47||07/07/2013|
He looks better now than he has in years. He looked quite good in Gatsby.
|by Anonymous||reply 48||07/07/2013|
[quote]He looks better now than he has in years.
Horseshit. And the only reason he looked OK in Gatsby was due to the pounds of make up, stylists, and perfect lighting.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||07/07/2013|
Here he is, third from left at an after party for Gatsby.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||07/07/2013|
This is a sex symbol???
|by Anonymous||reply 51||07/07/2013|
oop. gatsby party
|by Anonymous||reply 52||07/07/2013|
His metamorphosis into Jack Nicholson is stunning.
