Maria Bello

Whatever "It" is, she doesn't have it.

by Anonymousreply 15512/02/2013

She's a good actress but she looks so haggard on "Prime Suspect". I guess it's because Americans expect perfection from their TV and movie stars?

Bello used to be more attractive and sexy.

The show also needs better scripts. They need to re-vamp the scripts from the original UK series, perhaps that will help.

I want to punch the husband on the shows ex-wife square in her face, talk about an annoying one note character.

by Anonymousreply 110/01/2011

I think she's very good on Prime Suspect and I like how she looks. But then again I'm not one of those who expects perfection.

by Anonymousreply 210/01/2011

Is she still fucking Ms. Hardtobegay?

by Anonymousreply 310/01/2011

by Anonymousreply 410/01/2011

Just watched her in "Prime Suspect". Was expecting the worst but, surprisingly, she and the program are pretty good.

I was afraid they'd try to clone Helen Mirren's Prime Susect but thankfully, they've hatched something different here but in a very watchable way.

by Anonymousreply 510/01/2011

I don't get her neck. The way her thin skin looks as if it's suffocating her swollen bones? It's disgusting. yeah, I know her neck bones aren't swollen. But they look really misshapen. Same like Megan Fox's.

by Anonymousreply 610/01/2011

I think OP nailed it.

by Anonymousreply 710/01/2011

by Anonymousreply 810/01/2011

I think she is gorgeous on Prime Suspect.

I find her to be an extremely good looking woman.

She has natural beauty. She does not need makeup nor does she need sexy or attractive clothing - she has natural good looks.

I also think she is a great actress on Prime Suspect. And she is fascinating to watch.

by Anonymousreply 910/01/2011

I think she has 'it' in a big way.

by Anonymousreply 1010/01/2011

And by "it" r10 means melanoma.

by Anonymousreply 1110/01/2011

R1, I don't think she looks haggard at all.

I think she has a natural beauteous luminosity, glow, and beautiful essence.

by Anonymousreply 1210/01/2011

She does a great job on Prime Suspect.

by Anonymousreply 1310/01/2011

I wanted to hate Prime Suspect, but I really like it.

Maria is fucking AMAZING in it, and I'm sure she'll snag a Golden Globe nomination for this performance.

I think she looks good in the show. She looks real!

by Anonymousreply 1410/08/2011

She's hot.

by Anonymousreply 1510/08/2011

As good as she is in it, Prime Suspect is still quite unremarkable on the whole.

by Anonymousreply 1610/08/2011

I think the Op is right. She is a good looking woman and a great actress but Bello just doesn't have that special something that grabs your attention. R16 is right about the show. It's very well written but unremarkable which is a shame. It's more than likely going to get canceled.

by Anonymousreply 1710/08/2011

Of course Maria Bello grabs one's attention.

How absurd and idiotic to say otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 1810/08/2011

Not only she has "it" in spades, she has a personality that you rarely see in Hollywood actresses. I first saw her in Coyote Ugly and remember thinking "whoever that is, she's way to good for that piece of shit".

by Anonymousreply 1910/08/2011

Oh calm down, R18. If Bello was any good at bringing in the viewers then her show wouldn't be suffering in the ratings department. Being a good actress doesn't always translate to ratings success.

by Anonymousreply 2010/08/2011

I don't agree with OP's thread or disagree with it.

But there are plenty of working 'stars' out there that have zero charisma in my book.

If I made a list of 20 though I'm not sure Bello would be on it.

She's okay.

by Anonymousreply 2110/08/2011

Keeanu Reeves doesn't have "it".

by Anonymousreply 2210/08/2011

She's yellow. Where's the Yellow Skin Troll when you need him?

by Anonymousreply 2310/08/2011

I actually think she's pretty striking to watch. Never been a big fan of hers, but I like her on Prime Suspect.

by Anonymousreply 2410/08/2011

she's a lesbian. Maybe that's why she comes across as not having 'it'. 'It' being a kind of feminine, straight girl, sexiness. She is so obviously not straight.

by Anonymousreply 2510/08/2011

Also, she's yellow.

by Anonymousreply 2610/08/2011

Is she a lesbian r25?

by Anonymousreply 2710/08/2011

she is fantastic in prime suspect. never liked her until now. she's very compelling on the show. and hot.

by Anonymousreply 2810/08/2011

I have allways liked her acting, but she does manage to somehow allways look washed out and tired, the only movie where that worked in her favor was Downloading Nancy, but that was one of those films that I'll never watch again because it freaked me the fuck out

by Anonymousreply 2910/08/2011

by Anonymousreply 3010/09/2011

In "Prime Suspect," agreed.

In "History of Violence," couldn't disagree more. She was great.

by Anonymousreply 3110/09/2011

I didn't expect to, because the promos all summer were so off-putting, but I'm enjoying Prime Suspect. Maria Bello has always been a really good actress. The thing that surprises me is seeing how little makeup she wears for this show and how horrible her complexion is.

by Anonymousreply 3210/09/2011

I don't know if she's a lesbian, she may very well be one, but her sexual chemistry with Viggo Mortensen in "History of Violence" was palpable. If she is indeed a lesbian, that's even more of a proff that she's a very good actress.

by Anonymousreply 3310/09/2011

Maria Bello looks like a rough older version of Abbie Cornish.

by Anonymousreply 3410/09/2011

R25 is right. She is so obviously not straight.

by Anonymousreply 3510/09/2011

I agree with R31. I have liked her in other work, but I don't like Prime Suspect and I don't like her in it.

by Anonymousreply 3610/09/2011

I only saw the pilot for Prime Suspect. Is the silly fedora permanent?

by Anonymousreply 3710/09/2011

Yes. Bello said in an interview it belonged to a friend and she thought it was perfect for her character.

That's when I knew she and Jane Tennyson were light years apart and it was never going to happen. That hat shows the quirkiness of Bello's Jane. The real Jane Tennyson didn't have a quirky cell in her body.

by Anonymousreply 3810/09/2011

I don't buy her having a live-in boyfriend. Was production really halted?

by Anonymousreply 3910/09/2011

Yes, R39, after 6 episodes. It's on the bubble to be dropped very shortly.

by Anonymousreply 4010/09/2011

She has always looked haggard, like she's just coming down from a weekend binge.

by Anonymousreply 4110/09/2011

R40 is a lying asshole. Prime Suspect is still in production. The network is fully behind it.

by Anonymousreply 4210/09/2011

by Anonymousreply 4310/09/2011

I thought she dated She Who Will Not Be Named all those years ago. I remember people posting stuff about that in the ages of datalounge past.

by Anonymousreply 4410/10/2011

Prime Suspect is a very interesting series and she plays against normal police detective American bullshit type. They explored that whole sexy on the job, high heels and hair always in place while chasing a suspect down an alley female officer against her character last week.

Prime Suspect deserves a watch. Not the best writing but better than usual for network tv and Bello is exciting to watch if not titillating.

by Anonymousreply 4510/10/2011

You tell them, r45.

by Anonymousreply 4610/10/2011

She should give Ms. Hardlygay a lesson in how to REALLY play a cop.

by Anonymousreply 4710/10/2011

Agree with you (R37); the hat is a stupid gimmick and makes the character less believable. (R39) you're right, the live-in boyfriend doesn't work for the character at all. Guess they want to make sure no one suspects the character of being a lesbian, after all; she is a cop.

by Anonymousreply 4810/12/2011
you're right, the live-in boyfriend doesn't work for the character at all. Guess they want to make sure no one suspects the character of being a lesbian,

Even if they did make the character a lesbian by season 2 she would no longer be a lesbian anyway. So they just skipped the season 1 lesbian bit.

by Anonymousreply 4910/12/2011

LOL! (R49). So true.

by Anonymousreply 5010/12/2011

If "it" is "a black hole of charm, charisma, beauty, and talent," then I'd have to disagree with OP.

by Anonymousreply 5110/12/2011
Maria Bello - Whatever "It" is, she doesn't have it.

This popped into my head out of the blue today and I laughed out loud.

by Anonymousreply 5210/12/2011

I think with Rizzoli & Isles, The Closer, and now this, people are tired of the "sassy" female investigator shows.

by Anonymousreply 5310/12/2011
I think with Rizzoli & Isles, The Closer, and now this, people are tired of the "sassy" female investigator shows.

Bingo. "Sassy" is the word. Can't any of these women just play their characters "straight" - no sugarcoating for the masses? It's like they're constantly winking to the audience: let's have some fun!

by Anonymousreply 5410/12/2011

That stupid hat looks like something a Playboy model circa 1964 would wear for a "saucy" photo shoot.

by Anonymousreply 5510/12/2011

I remember watching some of the Helen Mirren Prime Suspects and I remember Mirren's "Jane" was very real and raw. I haven't seen much of the American version, are the stories the same as he original series?

by Anonymousreply 5610/13/2011

You can watch Prime Suspect on NBC's web site (I am posting a link), R56. The stories are brand new and they all get solved in a flash. It's all super simple and full of jokey stuff. In other words, the US version has absolutely nothing in common with the UK version.

by Anonymousreply 5710/13/2011

The sad truth is, the show is just dull. It's not awful but the kind of thing that makes you go "I've seen this same show many times but done in a more interesting way." In the end, as a procedural it's quite uninvolving and , on the other hand, her private life is just not portrayed as all that interesting. Yeah, she gets shit from her male colleagues but that wears thin pretty quickly.

by Anonymousreply 5810/13/2011

r57, thanks. That is too bad that it's not more like the UK version. Those were good.

by Anonymousreply 5910/13/2011

Oh, that's you, R59. You just called me "a racist that lives in his mothers basement" in another thread. I feel like I need to go wash my hands now. Yuck.

by Anonymousreply 6010/13/2011

EEEWWW r60 you are creeping me out. STOP IT!

by Anonymousreply 6110/13/2011

I've only seen a couple of episodes and I thought she was good. I'm just not sure what is meant to set this show apart from all the other cop dramas.

So do we know if Bello and Carrie Anne Moss were a couple?

by Anonymousreply 6210/13/2011

Loved Helen Mirren in the original Prime Suspect. Maria Bello trying to act like a man with the hat, trench coat and tough guy act are laughable. She's gotta tone it down.

The show's plot the other night was a ripoff of the original Prime Suspect. Why watch when you know how it's going to turn out. So frustrating. Same thing with Law and Order:UK.

by Anonymousreply 6310/13/2011

i thought she was channeling stephanie zimbalist in remington steele with that hat- it's closet-lesbo-detective chic.

by Anonymousreply 6410/13/2011

Anyone that doesn't like this show is a misogynist.

by Anonymousreply 6510/13/2011

I watched the pilot and had to turn the volume up full blast to understand the mumbling/bad accents. The 2nd show was a little better. Heard the 3rd show was good haven't watched yet.

by Anonymousreply 6610/13/2011

Stephanie Zimblist is gay right?

by Anonymousreply 6710/14/2011

The first thing she should do is dump that stupid hat!

by Anonymousreply 6810/14/2011

Yes, the hat must go. I'm the one that said it would be the downfall of the show.

by Anonymousreply 6910/14/2011

Who's Stephanie Zimblist?

by Anonymousreply 7010/15/2011
Who's Stephanie Zimblist?

No one.

by Anonymousreply 7110/15/2011

Maria says the hat was given to her by a friend. She considers it a good luck symbol.

by Anonymousreply 7210/15/2011

Whatever, the hat is a silly prop. Has to go. Would like to see her play the role as a real grown-up woman rather than a wise-ass teenage boy/baby dyke.

by Anonymousreply 7310/15/2011

So who is her girlfriend?

by Anonymousreply 7410/15/2011

I think NBC is showing Prime Suspect two or three times a week.

Sadly, it's not working. The ratings continue to go down, and last Thursday night was NBC's lowest rated night EVER!

The show will be gone in the next few weeks, but God knows what they'll put in it's place.

A test pattern, maybe?

by Anonymousreply 7510/15/2011

Probably the only people who care enough to make a point of trying it are fans of the original. And they are disappointed

by Anonymousreply 7610/15/2011

Yep, r76.

by Anonymousreply 7710/15/2011

And what is up with that boyfriend? His speech is unintelligible & he looks like he's had bad face work done. He creeps me out.

by Anonymousreply 7810/15/2011

I'm sure we will get another law and order spinoff.

by Anonymousreply 7910/15/2011

What do you know, she has her own (verified) Twitter page, and she LOVES the hat.

(She is not the best speller!)

by Anonymousreply 8010/15/2011
And what is up with that boyfriend? His speech is unintelligible & he looks like he's had bad face work done. He creeps me out.

That's Kenny Johnson. He was on The Shield for the first six seasons and was hot to death, at least to me. He just has a really strong New England accent.

by Anonymousreply 8110/15/2011

She may love the hat but it looks ridiculous on the show. Here's a pic from her twitter where she's wearing another hat. She looks better without them.

And she is totally not straight.

by Anonymousreply 8210/16/2011

Wow, I don't say this often, but that picture is quite gay.

by Anonymousreply 8310/16/2011

Yikes! That pic is totally gay. The chick with her is? Anyone know?

by Anonymousreply 8410/16/2011

The message under that photo... what does this even mean?

[italic]Me and @iamstefz loading up the vagina for the burn. See ya Saturday folks.[/italic]

by Anonymousreply 8510/16/2011

Maybe that woman is a sculptor or something.

But whatever. That pic is gay.

by Anonymousreply 8610/16/2011

loading up the vagina for the burn.

by Anonymousreply 8710/17/2011

A local Burning Man event? Maybe she calls her car "The Vagina"? I have no idea.

Also, does she have some sort of liver disease? Why is she yellow?

by Anonymousreply 8810/17/2011

R82, that is NOT a photo of Maria Bello.

by Anonymousreply 8910/17/2011

r89, yes, it is.

by Anonymousreply 9010/17/2011
[R82], that is NOT a photo of Maria Bello.

Maybe you should tell Maria Bello that she doesn't know what she looks like.

It comes from her Twitter page. It is her.

by Anonymousreply 9110/17/2011

Who's her girlfriend?

by Anonymousreply 9209/28/2012

I suspect she fucks nice. You remember him with Viggo Mortensen in 'History of Violence'?

by Anonymousreply 9312/22/2012

Everyone who has his/her eyes open can see that Maria Bello is very sexy and charming

by Anonymousreply 9412/22/2012

*you remember her...?

by Anonymousreply 9512/22/2012

Straight men do not like her because she is the sort of gal who responds to an advance with a puzzled look.

Straight men can handle anger, disdain, even laughter, but not puzzled looks.

by Anonymousreply 9612/22/2012

...and what about women R96? Do they like Maria?

by Anonymousreply 9712/22/2012

So guys you like Maria Bello?

I'm waiting...

by Anonymousreply 9812/22/2012

I usually love her acting, but she always looks like she needs a good exfoliating and a long shower.

by Anonymousreply 9912/22/2012

A long shower? humiliating are your comments R99. So would you bathe Maria Bello?

by Anonymousreply 10012/22/2012

Straight men don't like her because they are scared of her. It's obvious that she prefers the ladies and I get the impression that she isn't shy about admitting it.

by Anonymousreply 10112/22/2012

R101 Maria Bello has a son by her former boyfriend, the writer and producer Dan McDermott.

by Anonymousreply 10212/22/2012

Hawt. I'd do her.

by Anonymousreply 10312/22/2012

I wouldn't kick her out of bed.

by Anonymousreply 10412/22/2012

by Anonymousreply 10512/22/2012

And, R102? Bisexuals do exist. I think Bello is bisexual but prefers women.

by Anonymousreply 10612/22/2012

I have that impression too about Maria Bello R106, i'm just pulling your leg

by Anonymousreply 10712/22/2012

And she was in a relationship with former ER costar, Mariska Hargitay, R102.

Oh, and Mariska is "married" and has kids, too.

by Anonymousreply 10812/22/2012

R108 now i see what you mean

by Anonymousreply 10912/22/2012

I prefer these, R109.

by Anonymousreply 11012/22/2012

Oh, yes these are great photos R110, i like them better too and i haven't seen them before

Ty for posting them...

by Anonymousreply 11112/22/2012

Bisexual woman here who finds Maria Bello super-sexy, with qualities that many American actresses are for some reason afraid to project on screen: intelligence, self-resourcefulness intermingled with vulnerability, a sensuality that is not solely directed at men.

by Anonymousreply 11212/22/2012

Is 'The Yellow Handkerchief' a good film?

I have it in my possession now...

by Anonymousreply 11312/24/2012

I saw 'The Yellow Handkerchief'. Maria Bello was one more time great and sexy. Nice little movie.

by Anonymousreply 11412/27/2012

They call me yellow Bello!

by Anonymousreply 11512/27/2012

So who is her gf?

by Anonymousreply 11612/27/2012

lolz R116

by Anonymousreply 11712/27/2012

Maria dreaming of you strangely is sweeter than ever...

by Anonymousreply 11812/27/2012

She needs to make better choices in her career now. It is demanding. She proved that she can be excellent in dramatic roles.

by Anonymousreply 11901/02/2013

I hope Maria will finally play with Tom Wilkinson in 'Lives of Saints'. Tom Wilkinson is GRAND. I really really really like this actor. Maria play with him, don't let that chance slip away!

by Anonymousreply 12001/02/2013

Has she been cast in that, R120? I read that she will be the lead in the new James Wan thriller.

by Anonymousreply 12101/03/2013

R121 according to IMDb...

by Anonymousreply 12201/04/2013

IMDB isn't a reliable source, R122.

by Anonymousreply 12301/04/2013

I remember "Coyote Ugly", she was really beautiful and hot on that. But she's not ageing the best.

by Anonymousreply 12401/04/2013

R123 i disagree on that. IMDb is pretty reliable! By the way what made you think the other way???

by Anonymousreply 12501/04/2013

They are way off a lot of times. IMDB is hardly reliable, R125. They give credits to actors, directors or whoever even if it's just a rumor.

Jacqueline Bisset is credited as starring in a new movie on IMDB and when she was asked she said it was an internet rumor that somebody started.

by Anonymousreply 12601/04/2013

R126, that should not even considered as a mistake. Many times actors and actresses are approached to play a certain role for a certain movie but later things just turn out well. It's not IMDb's fault that.

by Anonymousreply 12701/04/2013

Then they should edit their pages, R127.

And it's not just one or two mistakes. It's a constant thing on IMDB.

by Anonymousreply 12801/04/2013

R128 you can't be for real! Actually, so far, IMDb is the most reliable source of information about actors and movies that there is out there. It's pretty consistent. I told you that it's not IMDb's fault if some stars finally decided not to play in a movie. All the other info about the actors and the movies they have played in are true!

by Anonymousreply 12901/04/2013
Actually, so far, IMDb is the most reliable source of information about actors and movies

No, it's not. They only edit their pages after the readers point out the mistakes. The best thing is to just google an actress or actor and see what new projects they are in. IMDB sucks balls.

by Anonymousreply 13001/04/2013

YOU ARE WRONG R130. IMDb is great. You look a gift horse in the mouth! You are unfair!

by Anonymousreply 13101/04/2013
I think Bello is bisexual

We have a winner!

by Anonymousreply 13211/29/2013

IMDB, like Wikipedia is edited by contributors. When it's a project that's in pre-production they only request a citation. That's where the reliability falls apart because bloggers report on actors being approached for projects as if it's a done deal. So people contribute based on rumors.

by Anonymousreply 13311/29/2013

OP, you may not be around here anymore, but I LOVE your opening post.

by Anonymousreply 13411/29/2013

So nobody cares that Maria came out as bi?

At least she's braver than most of the other actors we talk about on here.

by Anonymousreply 13511/29/2013

Any photos of this Clare?

by Anonymousreply 13611/29/2013

Google=your friend

by Anonymousreply 13711/29/2013

This Clare?

by Anonymousreply 13811/29/2013

So we think there really is a Clare, it's not a codename for Mariska?

by Anonymousreply 13911/29/2013

Maria Bello should star in an intense lesbian drama. Imagine how hot she could be in a lesbian sex scene, this woman is so hot and sexy! She is not just a fake starlet such know who!

by Anonymousreply 14011/30/2013

So... she was in a relationship with a woman before this one. The other girl must be Mariska?

by Anonymousreply 14112/01/2013

Bump for the original.

by Anonymousreply 14212/01/2013

She should play in better movies. She is wasted.

by Anonymousreply 14312/01/2013

by Anonymousreply 14412/01/2013

I made the fedora happen!

by Anonymousreply 14512/01/2013

Stephanie Zimbalist is a lesbian, too. What is it with lesbians and Fedora?

by Anonymousreply 14612/01/2013

I want to know who are the co-stars she was shagging (especially the one who argued with her a month after proposing).

by Anonymousreply 14712/01/2013

R138 Yes, that's her girlfriend.

by Anonymousreply 14812/01/2013

It wasn't a fedora, it was a trilby.

by Anonymousreply 14912/01/2013

R147 Julianne Moore? Robin Wright? Piper Perabo?

by Anonymousreply 15012/01/2013

At least now we know where the fedora came from - her girlfriend...

by Anonymousreply 15112/02/2013

Loool 151

by Anonymousreply 15212/02/2013

It's true. Only on DL could we think her statement is more important for answering the question about the the fedora than the fact she actually came out.

by Anonymousreply 15312/02/2013

Well the fedora was puzzling us all, not her orientation. That part was understood.

by Anonymousreply 15412/02/2013

DL gets it right again.
