Clooney is not friends with Russell Crowe. I remember Russell putting down celebs, naming Clooney and DeNiro as examples, for making commercials overseas. That actors should be "above" such things. Madonna got tired of Gwyneth's vapid ass. She could sense that Paltrow had zero depth and was nothing more than a spoiled hollywood princess who only cared about herself. Plus, Paltrow was itching for a record deal. Madonna just happened to own a label at that time.

Sharon Stone had the same problem on Casino. She dealt with it by walking into Scorcese's trailer during a 'Marty and the boys' conference and told them that her character was not a wallpaper whore and they'd better include her for the good of the movie. Stone can be a cunt, but that took balls.

Gladys and Aretha have been feuding since they started in showbiz. Allegedly, Gladys walked up to Aretha at a show and complemented her on how she did. Aretha just glared at her and turned her back.
Aretha says the feud started when she offered Gladys and the Pips a ride on her jet to Dr. King's funeral. The free ride went unthanked, and ruffled Aretha's feathers.
Gladys gave an interview in the eighties where she stated that she wished Aretha and her were closer. Aretha sent a picture to her of the two of them posing and asked "How close do you want us to be?"
On Oprah's 40th bash, Aretha wouldn't even look in Knight's direction when she sang. And she didn't join in the standing ovation Knight got afterwards.
Franklin isn't a walk in the park to deal with, but I heard Knight can be a nasty piece of work herself.

|by Anonymous||reply 72||09/29/2011|
I know Gladys personally. I have known her for years. She is an absolute sweet heart. Gladys split her earnings evenly with the Pips, and she did not have to. She paid all the med bills for one of them when he was stricken with cancer. She also stayed in the group long after most wanted her to break free as a solo.
Aretha went ballistic when (in the 70s) several music forums mags critics stated that Gladys and Patti had voices that could rival Aretha's. The bitch went ape shit ever since refusing to show up with them or perform on the same ticket. There was an opportunity to have all three appear in several concerts together but Aretha would have none of it. They got Warwick instead.
|by Anonymous||reply 73||09/29/2011|
Thanks R73. That's why I said "I've heard." Thank you for clearing that up, because Gladys has never struck me as the type who could be that nasty.
Gladys wanted Aretha for "Sisters in the Name of Love". She declined, so she got her good friend Dionne instead.
Aretha has feuded with just about every major female entertainer in the music biz. She also went apeshit when Natalie Cole came on the scene, because she had turned down the chance to work with Cole's producers, who wrote "This Will Be" specifically for Aretha.

Madonna and Goldie Hawn went out of their way to treat Charlize Theron like shit at a fancy party in the early 00s. They were pissed because she had recently secured the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago...even though Goldie felt she was entitled to it (with Madonna playing Velma Kelly). It was high school mean girl bullshit, but Charlize handled it as well as she could've (a young woman in her 20s facing off against a couple of veteran bitches almost twice her age). Incidentally, CT lost the role when Rob Marshall took over, but it allowed her to do Monster, which won her the Oscar for Best Actress.

r61, come on - stop dramatizing. That woman was a bit too off-kilter and was the joke of the entourage for her craziness. She was also way over head trying to keep up with the other members to be part of the pack. She went out to the clubs and was bragging about working for Madonna, no doubt making an ass out of herself. And she bragged to the wrong people. She was a loon. When she was telling the backup singers what happened to her - making it her "in" - they couldn't have cared less and were patronizing her. When Madonna was told by her brother what happened to her, she laughed out of nervousness because it was a reaction to an absurd situation - and an absurd person - which we have all done. Especially here on DL.

[quote]Aretha says the feud started when she offered Gladys and the Pips a ride on her jet to Dr. King's funeral. The free ride went unthanked, and ruffled Aretha's feathers.
Actually, R69, I've read that it was the other way around. It was Gladys and the Pips who offered Aretha a ride on their jet, and Ree not only didn't say a word to them during the flight but also got up and got out of the airplane without thanking Gladys and the Pips when they landed. On a few other occasions, Gladys reportedly walked up to Aretha and tried to be friendly but was treated with bitchy condescension.
I don't know Gladys that well and have only met her a couple of times, but both times she was very professional, courteous, kind and pleasant. A lot of people in the entertainment industry can be rude sometimes and I give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it down to them having a bad day. However Aretha was a mean old cunt EVERY single time I had to deal with her. And I probably got off easy because I'm a man. A female colleague of mine got treated even worse. Also, reading between the lines, I'm guessing there was no love lost between Jane Kaczmarek and the rest of the "Malcolm in the Middle" cast. After her "migraine-out"/contract renegotiation, I noticed she didn't have scenes with the kids nearly as frequently and often her storylines didn't involve the family at all. Madonna hated Sharon Stone in the 90s. I was at a Hollywood Bowl taping of the Arsenio Hall Show (?) where Madonna performed 'The Lady is a Tramp' (?!?) and changed one of the lyrics to 'I like a pair of tits that isn't a fake...Sharon Stone!'.
And I remember an interview with Stone where she was speaking about singing with James Brown at an AmFar event or something and she said she felt completely out of her element and now she understood what it must be like for Madonna every time she walked onto a film set. Meow!

When it comes down to it, we are talking here about three types and how they interact and grate on each other, or compete with each other:
1. The "real people" celebrities who somehow never quite lose their underlying personalities despite occasional forays into spotlight idiocy. They may not be perfect, they make mistakes, but you know you're dealing with a human being. (Meryl Streep, for one.)
2. The typical celebrities. They may be A, B, C, or D list. They may be on no list. But they have by the process of celebrityhood become hybridized to the extent that they are part human and part something else altogether. Usually mad, self-absorbed, dishonest-but-in-denia-about-it, and emotionally infantilized while also being narcissistic and dependent on others for approval, nurturing, and availability for abuse. Naturally when they come together there is great love, great hate, great secrets, great drama, and mostly great misunderstanding and great bullshit. If you're not a #1 and have not gone off the deep end to become a #3, you're here.
3. The Monsters. Usually A and B listers who can afford Monsterhood, but others attempt it. The Great Swine of the Business who, because of talent, smarts or the ability to blackmail act as they wish and are so absolutely bonkers that what they deserve is to be locked up in a padded cell between closely guarded shoots or performances with tranquilizer dart guns close by. Aretha is a prime example - an absolute monster, a lying, cheating, foul-minded, suspicious, hateful thing that - of course - is an indispensable part of our cultural heritage. Lesser lights, such as Mandy Patinkin, belong here - Complete Crazies. Michael Jackson. Madonna. But also types such as Bruce Willis, Celine Dion, Mimi, and Rosie O'Donnell.
If they ever visit pet shops, the canaries are always lying dead at the bottom of their cages when they leave. If they ever were to stick their heads into the back section of a plane, all the air masks would drop as the sensors registered their sucking all the oxygen out of the space.
And for some reason all these people have trouble getting along?
|by Anonymous||reply 133||09/30/2011|
Aretha developed her fear of flying only in 1982 after she found herself on a very turbulent flight back to Detroit. The incident with Gladys and the Pips happened sometime in the late 60s or the early 70s.

Boy George and George Michael End Their 20-Year Feud
British gay icons Boy George and George Michael have ended their bitter 20-year feud in a string of friendly emails. After years of catty remarks, the pair famously fell out when the "Faith" singer branded the former Culture Club's frontman "homophobic" and called him "such a b**ch".
Boy George had previously hit out at Michael for keeping his sexuality under wraps - the star only came out as gay after he was arrested for propositioning a police officer in a public toilet in 1998. But Boy George insists they have now put their bad feelings behind them.
The 48-year-old singer says, "We have exchanged emails and things are pretty good between us. We've spoken a couple of times and he seems to be doing OK."

At least according to FF on Dirty Soap episode 1.

I don't think Streisand and Patinkin got along on the set of Yentl. It seems like she cut off all contact with him after filming was done. I'm sure she thought he was nuts.
Barbra is downright scared of him in this outtake...
|by Anonymous||reply 149||09/30/2011|
Aretha dislikes Natalie Cole? I find that hard to swallow. I mean, maybe she does dislike her but Natalie had been singing and making records for a while before she recorded "This Will Be."
Besides, Aretha has a history of passing on songs and then recording covers of them once they hit it big. Notably, she passed on "Son Of a Preacher Man" and watched in horror as Dusty Springfield recorded it and went on to have tremendous success with it. Aretha hustled her ass into the studio right quicklike and hoped her version would sell as well as Dusty's. It didn't.
Aretha has led quite an interesting life. Rumor had it that her Preacher Father was the daddy of her first born son who she had when she was 14. First husband, Teddy White, physically abused her and was her manager for a while, but he was terrible at it. Last husband, actor Glynn Turman, so the rumor goes, was found in bed with one of her sons. Divorce soon followed. I figure I'd be bitchy too with stuff like that floating around.

One story I read about the estrangement of George Clooney and Marky Mark was that they had gone into some club while making the Perfect Storm and some very young girls gathered around them. George was trying to be tactful and get loose of that jailbait, but Mark was very much into trying to get one of them to go with him. Allegedly, George got so disgusted that he axed Mark from any future projects that had been lined up for them both.
I remember seeing some pics of George and Brad and Angelina at some movie premiere and boy howdy, Angelina looked like she wished she was anywhere else but standing between George and Brad. It wasn't just one pic. Several of the pics showed her being just as sourpussed. George and Brad were all smiles and laughter.

|by Anonymous||reply 159||10/01/2011|
R105 there's no great story unfortunately - in a recent book on Robert Altman Cher says bluntly that she liked everyone on the set of "Come back to the 5 & Dime" except Karen Black and the feeling was mutual. It might be related to the fact that Altman wanted Cher to play Black's role and she refused,
Also from that book: Altman hates Spacey, Jane Adams is extremely difficult. It's a good source of dish.

R161 the book is Robert Altman: The Oral Biography. I found the second half especially interesting. He was not a lovable character - cruel to his wife, neglectful of his children - and the book doesn't mince around that.

Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall did not get along at some point during the TV SITC. There was a magazine article about Kim being written and while she was being interviewed in the make-up trailer, SJP walked in and the interviewer wrote that they never spoke or looked at one another. There was definite tension in the air before SJP left.
Cut to the time they were discussing doing the movie and Kim was the only holdout. They were wrangling back and forth trying to get her onboard and it looked like the whole deal was going to fall through. At some awards show, SJP won something and before she went onstage, she made it a point to go over to where Kim was sitting and knelt down in front of her and whispered something to her before kissing her cheek. Kim definitely looked taken aback at this display, but I guess it did the trick, because the next thing being written was that Kim was in the movie.

Barbra recently threw a dinner for Bob Mackie's longtime boyfriend and Cher of course was invited. When Cher got there, Barbra made a BIG PRODUCTION in front of everyone: 'HOW ARE YOU DOING WITH CHAZ? ARE YOU OKAY?' Cher was pissed and told Mackie later, "that's just Barbra...fucking Barbra."
I know this because a friend of mine is one of the caterers that works for Streisand. Apparently she has a VERY rigid list of requirements and the caterers can only use an approved list of serving staff, and nobody is allowed to bring cell phones with them.

[quote]Drew Barrymore and Madeline Stowe (bad blood on Bad Girls)
Not just Drew. The other actresses were pissed that she didn't hang out with them after work and wasn't all that social with them. Stowe said in an interview with Movieline that during the filming of that movie, she was being very Methody with the role and felt that she needed to keep some distance between the other actresses and herself. The director told her to do what she needed to do and that the others would understand. Apparently not.
Also, I'm assuming that Winona Ryder burned quite a few bridges during her heyday, since no one has seen fit to guide her to a comeback in the years since her meltdown. She's worked, but considering the heights she once occupied and all the big names she worked with, the fact that pretty much none of them act like she exists now speaks volumes.

William B. Davis who played Smoking Man on X files has just published a memoir and throws major shade on David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson!
He describes Duchovny as so chronically late that call times had to be adjusted for him, difficult to talk to, and self-absorbed about his insistence on filming in LA.
He says Anderson never gave him a single "How are you?" in all the years they worked together and forced everyone in the make-up trailer to listen to her choice of music at top volume: "How arrogant!" He contrasts her with Anne Hathaway who was a delight to her crew & supporting cast. On Anderson: "Her acting improved over the years but her attitude never did."

Well, I can attest to Karen Black's craziness. I personally saw her pull a microphone away from a black lounge singer in Austin, TX at the Driskill Hotel back in the 90s.
She jumped up from her chair in the hotel's bar, grabbed the microphone away from the frightened singer mid-song, and proceeded to scold the singer in front of everyone. She said, "You are singing this song all wrong! That is NOT how you sing it!" Karen then told her to start playing the piano and she sang the song the way she thought it should be sung.
When she finished, she handed the mike back and left the bar.

[R180] I've heard lots of nasty things about Duchovny and Anderson from people who lived and worked in Vancouver, when most of the first several seasons of the show was filmed.
David D was a notorious asshole to everyone who ever crossed his path. He was banned from a cafe because he threw a scalding hot drink back in a barista's face. And he believed women were at his beck and call - he would have his hotel room number printed on business cards and leave them with waitresses, shop girls, etc. and be very aggressive about them meeting him. Not an invitation, or even a little flirting. Just ordering them, in a way, as if he'd ordered a latte. And he was a rough fuck, apparently. He's got a huge cock, but the whole experience was apparently not at all fun for those who took a ride.
As for Gillian, she's a twisted sister who liked to cocktease guys. But she's a pussyhound (not a Bush supporter!) and is or was in a marriage of convenience/show with her beard.

[quote]Madonna and Cher have their infamous blood hate for each other.
Actually they've been on good terms for the past decade or so.
When Cher released Believe, Madonna publicly gushed over the "Dove L'Amore" song (she should, it sounded like a mix of La Isla Bonita and Frozen) and even wanted to direct the video for it.
Since then, both have had nothing but good things to say about each other. Cher was asked on Twitter the other day if she had any advice for Madonna's comeback album and she tweeted back, "Work it girl."

My uncle worked with Cloris Leachman back in the early 80s and for years I've heard horror stories about her. He was the production manager on a summer theater gig she was doing and I'm sure just trying to keep her happy because she was evidently a nightmare to work with and he never knew what might set her off.
More recently, I know someone who tried to interview her and she came in with a ton of demands and then proceeded to turn the interview around on the guy and berate him for being overweight. She's VERY anti-fat people even though she's put on weight as she's aged. Claims it's all in the name of health but then she sneaks off and smokes.

I used to work with someone who knew her family. Don't know anything about the icky rumors about her dad, but the person said Rev. Franklin was actually happy to have her out of his hair when she decided to move to New York and go secular. Of course considering that the family-approved bio of C.L. Adam Levine tried hard to overcome her nasty behavior by inviting her to duet with him, but there's real tension on The Voice. Also Blake Shelton really has a very hard time dealing with "the gays."

r233, no loathing on Norm's part; he doesn't give two fucks about anything, especially the business.
He just doesn't suffer fools.

Well R62, Sharon Stone and Debra Winger had the last laugh since they ended up being nominated for the Oscars and not Gere and DeNiro/Scorsese

Tom & Jerry. Just HATE each other.

Supposedly Mick Jagger and Keith Richards still hate each other and the reconciliation in the early 1990s was bullshit.

R251, get a clue. They have toured many times since then. Richards insulted Jagger in his autobiography and he had to apologize before the tour this time, but they are doing a tour currently. It is divided up into short sections, because Richards has health problems that prevent him from a long tour. They don't hate each other, but they have grown apart. They work together OK, however.

Teri Snatcher and the rest of the DH cast, obviously. Remember that season where her character was written into a separate apartment and rarely had to deal with the other women? And in the last season, there was a lot of camera trickery where Hatcher clearly wasn't in the shot with the rest of the women -- over the shoulder shots, green screens, etc.
The other three women (and Vanessa Williams) teamed up for the traditional cast- and crew gifts at the end of the show. Hatcher was left out.

R224 Spiderwoman preceded Yankees which means that Marshall worked with her after the alleged 'f*ggot' comment. Bebe is weird. Period. Some people get her and some people don't. And she doesn't give a fuck. But, yeah, Marshall washed his hands of her after Yankees and wouldn't even consider her for Chicago movie.

Are Jagger and Richards like a divorced couple in how they get along/don't get along?

I heard stories about Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patric on the set of Rush from a friend who worked on the film. Patric made a pass at JJL, who had a boyfriend at the time, and then refused to communicate with her for the rest of the shoot.

Ben Stiller loathes Oliver Stone and every then-young actor who was in Platoon (Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp, Willem Dafoe, Tom Berenger, Kevin Dillon, Forrest Whittaker, Francisco Quinn, John McKinley) because he auditioned for several parts, including the ones Sheen and Depp got, and Stone refused to put him in the movie. Tropic Thunder is aimed at Stone.
