GI Joe or Barbie? What doll did you play with as a kid?
|by Anonymous||reply 48||02/07/2014|
Neither -- stuffed animals were more fun.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||09/25/2011|
Same here - it was stuffed animals.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||09/25/2011|
Neither you fool. You also left out both. Your polling license is revoked.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||09/25/2011|
He-Man, She-Ra, Thundercats, MASK, Transformers, GI Joe, GoBots, Voltron and JEM & the Holograms dolls.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||09/25/2011|
I hated dolls of either sex and used to rip out the hair on my sisters dolls. She collected them. I poked out their eyes withy a pencil, too.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||09/25/2011|
Neither - AMT models. I had a 1961 Imperial I took everywhere.

I was fascinated by all of Barbie's tiny shoes and accessories. The girl down the street and I used to play with her huge collection of Barbie stuff, and it always made me furious that she didn't take good care of anything. I wanted to kidnap Barbie (and her fabulous wardrobe) and sweep her off to my lair and keep her as a prisoner of love.

Steve Scout and Bob Scout.
|by Anonymous||reply 9||09/25/2011|
The yellow ones.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||09/25/2011|
R8 Loved Barbie's tiny stuff, I even have her tiny McDonalds burgers, fries and slurpees in my collection.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||09/25/2011|
Star Wars, Teddy Bears, Action Man (with Tesco carrier bag 'parachute') and some other random action figures.
I didn't own any Sindy, but loved playing with all the accessories whenever I went round my Mum's friend's house (her daughter liked it).
Barbie never appealed as she was an idiot.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||09/25/2011|
I had some "Big Jim" action figures, Johnny West & GI Joe. Big Jim & Friends were tres gay, now that I think about it in hindsight. His compadres had names like " Torpedo Fist" (??!!)and "The Whip" ! I used to have Johnny West and GI Joe--with his Kung Fu grip--have some, um, INTERESTING adventures together! Sometimes they'd have a three-way with Big Jim!

I'm a male, and I did play a bit with my older sister's Barbies. I was a kid in the 80s, and she was 8 years older than me. I found all of her Barbie stuff in the attic one day, and it was all the loud shit from the 70s: huge patterns, macrame knit skirts. It was fabulous!!!!

For those of you youngins who are clueless about "Big Jim" and his friends, here's a pic... Sooooooooo butch! Gotta LOVE the cutoffs, vest and hiking boots on the guy third from right!
|by Anonymous||reply 16||09/25/2011|
And another fabu pic of "Big Jim" and buddies! It appears that they're channeling the Village People in this pic! Check out the two dudes on the left! Hmmmmmmmmm..... Well, it WAS the 1970's!
|by Anonymous||reply 17||09/25/2011|
Dinosaurs for me.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||09/25/2011|
He-Man. That & Dukes of Hazzard (I was mesmerized by Tom Wopat's hairy arms) are the earliest indications I can remember of my budding homosexuality.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||09/25/2011|
No love for Stretch Armstrong?
|by Anonymous||reply 20||09/25/2011|
R5, you are bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S BANANAS!
|by Anonymous||reply 21||09/25/2011|
Barbie. In fact I still collect fashion dolls (not Barbie though).
|by Anonymous||reply 22||09/25/2011|
I had a Steve Austin doll. The first thing I did when no one was looking was to take of his clothes.
I also had a ton of Star Wars action figures. Do those count as dolls?
|by Anonymous||reply 23||09/25/2011|
Those "Big Jim" toys seem like the gayest toys EVER! I'll have to see if I can find some on Ebay or the flea market! I simply MUST have them!
|by Anonymous||reply 24||10/01/2011|
My sister had Barbie's entire world - country house, jet, camper, pool, and fabulous wardrobe and accessories. I had GI Joe and a helicopter and used to drop in on Barbie every once in a while, and help her pick outfits for her date with GI Joe.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||10/01/2011|
Female here...I played with my Barbies AND my older brothers' G.I. Joes!
|by Anonymous||reply 26||10/01/2011|
I had both a Ken doll and a GI Joe, though my favorite was the Ken doll!! Hehe*
I remember crying endlessly when my dog ate Ken's left arm.

I remember when I was a kid I had a friend named Teresa and one day we were playing with her Barbies and we got one of her brother's GI Joe's, stripped both of them naked, and put them in the Barbie Townhouse bed. I think Barbie was on top and her mom walked in. Christ she was pissed and chased Teresa around the house with a switch. I was banished for a few weeks. To this day I still don't know how Teresa knew the things she did.

Barbie is winning this poll!
|by Anonymous||reply 29||03/05/2013|
R16, the one with the cutoffs is Big Josh. (the far right in the hat is Big Jeff.)
I had them both. Big Josh came with camping gear that had a "talking" backpack. You pulled the string and it would say things like, "Let's find some firewood" and "It's rough goin', can you make it?"

My sister's Barbie got dressed up with the latest fashions, while my brother's GI Joe got stripped naked!
Duh! I was a little gay boy!
|by Anonymous||reply 32||03/05/2013|
OP, what makes you think I played with dolls?
|by Anonymous||reply 33||03/05/2013|
Had a GI Joe briefly, my sister had Barbie. I sort of looked at Barbie once and found it uniteresting as I figured most of the fun was in dressing the doll in various fashions. As a budding gay top, I sort of ordered GI Joe to do a variety of things and if he didn't follow orders he got his pants pulled down and his ass spanked with my forefinger. I think back on that shit now and I think it is too incredible. I have no idea what happened to my GI Joe, I may have even given him away in some sort of toy drive at Christmas when I got tired of him.

Ehh... you took the red Seconals, Neely.

GI Joe turns 50 today!

I used to make my GI Joes make out with each other

Boring thread unless you state your gender. And if you now queer or straight.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||02/06/2014|
None. My parents didn't buy me toys. Sob.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||02/06/2014|
Neither. Stuffed animals. And real animals. Dolls smelled funny. And let's face it: GI Joe was a doll.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||02/06/2014|
I chose Creepy Crawlers.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||02/06/2014|
I had a paratrooper. I would drop him from my bedroom window on the 2nd floor and watch him float to the ground attached to the open parachute. Then I would run downstairs and outside, pick him up, run upstairs and drop him again. The dog would be scampering after me, up and down the stairs. My mother encouraged me to play with that paratrooper every afternoon. There was a reason for that. After a few dozen drops, the dog and I would be ready for a nap, with no complaints.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||02/06/2014|
UH, Raggedy Ann and Andy. I also had a Käthe Kruse boy doll.
OP, you have a really narrow notion of dolls. There is a lot more out there than just Barbie. There are also Jem, Chrissy, Kiddles, Troll Dolls, Amanda Jane, Dawn, Blythe, Strawberry Shortcake, etc.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||02/07/2014|
I'm a male, and I found my sister's Barbie collection from the 70s. I was fascinated by the outfits, which were OUTRAGEOUS. Lots of Macrame, knits, wild patterns, earth tones. That stuff was crazy.
