This is quite possibly the greatest rock ballad in past ten years

Yeah, it's Green Day but give it a chance. The vocal arrangement, that rolling base line. My favorite song from their past album.

I like "Wake Me Up When September Ends" better.

by Anonymousreply 208/21/2011

I was ready to argue, but my other favorites from Green Day are all from the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 308/21/2011

Green Day is so fucking criminally underrated that it practically makes me sick.

I believe that Jesus of Suburbia will go down as The Wall of the 2000s. That song, and the entire album that came with it, is a classic.

I cant tell you how many times I will be at work listening to music and hear a song I like, look to see who it is, and it's Green Day. Their music is consistently so good, yet their sound is different enough each time that I would never be tempted to say, "oh, another typical Green Day song". Thank you for posting this OP

by Anonymousreply 508/21/2011

Song sounds romantic

by Anonymousreply 608/21/2011

Who would have thought that Green Day would be the one 90s band (besides Radiohead) that is still relevant?

by Anonymousreply 708/21/2011

It never actually does anything or goes anywhere, and the detachment of the vocals as he focuses on sounding like a ballad vocalist makes it sound like a rehearsal. But if you like it, OP, that's nice. I like Green Day.

And they're on Broadway, just like Billy Joel!

by Anonymousreply 808/21/2011

It sound like something you'd hear on LITE FM radio. Yuck.

by Anonymousreply 908/21/2011

@R8, it doesn't have to go anywhere, because it's just a simple, stripped down ballad that showcases BJ's incredible range and songwriting.

@9, stop hating. This wasn't even a single, it was a cut buried deep into the amazing concept album that was 21st Century Breakdown.

by Anonymousreply 1008/21/2011

When it comes to lyrics, BJA really needs an editor if not a partner. He can't steer clear of cliches.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me

Here comes the rain again

At the end of another lost highway

She's salt of the earth

This is the dawning of the rest of our lives

Out of body and out of mind

by Anonymousreply 1108/21/2011

Y'all need to se e"American Idiot." The performance of this song has a projected graphic of thousands of pieces of paper flying up.

Reminds me of 9/11. (Wake me when it's over).

by Anonymousreply 1208/22/2011

Personally, 21st Century Breakdown is, in my opinion, one of their worst albums; possibly because the ideas are recycled American Idiot, and the music is, frankly, poor compared even to Warning (and the reviewers hated that when it came out).

Green Day isn't about the music or the message any more, it's about kids buying into the hype and it maks me so fucking sad. Still, better Green Day that Justin Bieber, I guess...

by Anonymousreply 1308/22/2011

I love Green Day and agree that they're completely underappreciated.%0D %0D I didn't get to see American Idiot on Broadway and it looks like the National tour is pretty limited, to a dozen or so cities. I'll try to catch it though.

by Anonymousreply 1408/22/2011

they're not unappreciated, they had a fucking Broadway show devoted to their crap music.

by Anonymousreply 1508/22/2011

OP - terrible fan video, nice song.

by Anonymousreply 1608/22/2011

The Beatles. Free as a Bird. That's all I can say.

by Anonymousreply 1708/22/2011

Bless your hearts, but GD is terrifically over-rated. I like anthemic *cough* ballads as much as the next person (see: U2). Every douchebag and hausfrau loves them some Green Day.

@8, well put: And they're on Broadway, just like Billy Joel! **********

Sorry, no. OP needs perspective.

You are the moonlight of my life, every night...

bump

by Anonymousreply 2010/09/2011

Bitch, please!

by Anonymousreply 2110/09/2011

My favorite rock ballad of the past ten years.

by Anonymousreply 2210/09/2011

Not my favorite Green Day song, but I syill like it.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams should be the anthem for Occupy Wall Street.

by Anonymousreply 2310/09/2011

With every breathe that I am worth, here on earth..

by Anonymousreply 2412/15/2011

Apparently, Billie-Jo Armstrong is BISEXUAL!!!

by Anonymousreply 2512/15/2011

Love this song

by Anonymousreply 2611/20/2012

This song sounds like it could be from the Hedwig soundtrack.

by Anonymousreply 2711/20/2012

"Welcome to Paradise" is the perfect song for driving very fast on an empty highway.

by Anonymousreply 2811/20/2012

Okay, now I have to go listen to Bohemian Rhapsody just to clear that out of my head.

by Anonymousreply 2911/20/2012
